@BulldogsummerI did some Vinted swapping too. Sold the larger stuff and bought some smaller replacements with the proceeds. For a fair while I lived in “one size” or deliberately oversized dresses and tunics worn with leggings/tights, so that I could accommodate my changing size without having to buy new stuff too often. I’ve been getting new stuff recently now I’m down to a size 16, but only in the sales and from places like Sainsburys TU so it’s not costing me a fortune.

I am also struggling with the idea of things fitting rather than being baggy. I find I get quite stressed if anything is fitted across my stomach area, I find it quite unpleasant. But I think I need to try to get used to it.

Billybingbong · 13/06/2025 14:47

@Bulldogsummer Have you tried Vinted? I've dropped from a 24/26 to 22/24 so can still get away with some of my bigger stuff, but I'm using Vinted almost as a swap shop at the moment. I've listed loads of my too big stuff, and using my balance to buy smaller stuff. I intend to do this for the duration until I reach my goal size (then I plan on having a made crazy shopping spree!). Also, Whatnot has been mentioned on a PP, always worth a look

I don't think you can send things back for a refund tho, if it doesn't fit
I'm still not sure on what suits ,me ,so most stuff gets sent back

I actually can't wait untill I can buy from Tesco ,they only go up to a 22 ,so I'm not there yet..I could probably squeeze in to some things ,as my friend who's bigger than me buys plenty from Tesco ,but I don't like things fitted .
Sainsbury's do a 24 ,but the bigger sizes seem sold out on line and none in store

PearlsPearl · 13/06/2025 17:01

I also can't wait to fit into supermarket clothes. It'll be so good to just be able to do what DW does and just grab something. I often see cute things when I'm with her and just think... one day. And now it might actually be one day which is exciting!

Clothes are my sad thing. I've been overweight my entire adult life and I'm 39 now so I've always just worn what fit, rather than what I want. I was an 18 at 18. I am ashamed to say I buy most of my clothes from shein as it tends to suit my style and is cheap, but it's shitty quality generally and horrible material sometimes (I seek out the cotton if I can). But nowhere else suits for a size 24 slightly alternative girly.

3 and a half stone weight loss and I don't feel any different yet except the top half of my B belly is much flatter now and it's not much of a B anymore which is great :)

Haha you'd be surprised what some people on vinted want to send back for.
I'm a shopaholic, as in I had a bedroom and a dressing room full of clothes I've been selling stuff that is too big, as well as wi ter clothes in my current size on vinted ( as they will be too big by winter). In the last week I've had one person report an item as " significantly not as described " because the trousers she bought from me didn't cover her ankles. She didn't ask their length, just assumed they would be long fit.
And a second person complaining that the shade of orange wasn't as bright as she likes so can she have a refund🤣

Billybingbong · 13/06/2025 17:33

I've had a couple of 'interesting' experiences with Vinted, but nothing too bad. Except the 'new without tags' pyjamas I bought, which turned up soaking wet and covered in poo & pee stains. I told the seller I was happy to send them back for refund, but she would have to wear a haschem suit to open them. Funnily enough, she refunded without argument!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 13/06/2025 17:42

I've just received a jumper from Vinted which was allegedly "new without tags" and it really, really wasn't.

I took several pictures of the bobbling (not to mention the stub of the size label which the seller had cut off) and she refunded without return immediately.

I got some shoes a few weeks ago which were meant to be brand new. They'd been worn for quite a while! I took lots of pictures and again, she refunded without quibbling.

PearlsPearl · 13/06/2025 22:10

As I hate clothes I've never used Vinted for myself but I do buy DS the odd thing on there when he wants something extortionate, like a £200 coat last winter (got an as new one for £120 so not bad). I also use it for craft things! It's so addictive because it's just so user friendly.

I sell loads of stuff.
I've only had two problem buyers.
I refunded one and made the other one send my brand new top back to me. She claimed it had fungus on it. Bitch.
🤣🤣

But the vast majority of transactions go very smoothly. I've made nearly a thousand quid.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 13/06/2025 23:15

I use Vinted all the time, I think I’ve replaced a food addiction with it! I have never had a problem with anything I’ve sold or purchased, like @Billybingbong says, I use it as a swap shop. I have no idea anymore of what really suits me or actual sizes as brands are so different. I can fit into supermarket Asda and Morrisons size 20 dresses, tesco sizing seems to be all over the place, fat face size 22 fits fine but I’m fitting into primark and M&S size 18 jeans. If stuff is too small it goes into a box to try on later, if It’s too big or I don’t like it, it’s photographed and instantly re-listed. I’ve made quite a bit of money but just leave it sitting there (or spend it instantly) to use so I’m not really spending/earning anything.
I even sold some old porcelain I had, it was snapped up - it really is addictive

I’m really peed off with the likes of tesco, Sainsbury and Asda as they’ve done away with their changing rooms which means it’s guess work at the moment, but I’ve started carrying a tape measure in my bag to use as a guide. But Matalan is great, I must have spend ages in there last week just trying on so many clothes that I wouldn’t have been able to go near this time last year, just to try and get some ideas.

An update ladies
4 stone down and "have you lost weight" comments have started. I'm so pleased that it's now more obvious!

eibbed999 · 14/06/2025 08:39

I started doing Vinted after I joined this thread, and so far I've made over £600 - selling my bigger sizes, but also I discovered I had storage boxes full of stuff I'd bought over the years 'to wear when I've lost weight'. It was just sitting there with its tags on, and I realised as I went through it that I didn't even like most of them. Even though I've now lost some weight, I didn't want to wear them. I've probably spent about £150 buying new stuff that fits me, and whatever I don't like I sell on again. Sold quite a few pairs of my Doc Martens (I have too many) and a Docs bag I never used. I've started to be more careful with buying though, because even though something looks cheap by the time you've added the buyer protection and postage it's not! My body is in such a state of flux it's hard to know what styles/fabrics will look good any more. Not complaining, it's just weird.

Most people on there are really nice and decent, but you definitely get some who are trying it on. I got a message complaint the other day from a lady saying her cropped jeans were too long. I replied saying they were sold as BNWT Next jeans in a standard size 18,which is what they were. It's not really my fault if her legs are too short, and her issue is with Next not me (I was very polite and only said the first bit, even though I was doing that very English thing and fuming inside!). I've also learned from buying stuff that BNWT doesn't mean as much as it should - BNWT but stored in a sewer seems to be a not uncommon thing! It is fun though. I'm quite sad that I've run out of stuff to sell!

Hello my friends - big news - I have bought a new bra! It was in the Victoria's Secret sale, and it is the Queen of All Bras - push up, plush and spectacularly va-va-voom! I have big boobs but left to their own devices they lurk by my kneecaps, but this miracle of very comfy engineering scoops them all up so high I could rest my pint on them. Wore it out to an occasion lunch yesterday and it's amazing how noticeable the weight loss was once I had the right 'foundation garment' in place! I weirdly seem to have lost lots of fat from my back, even my daughter noticed (and she is 18 and doesn't notice much about me usually!), so a 44 band size was actually comfortable.

GnomeDePlume · 14/06/2025 09:47

@mamabeeboo well done! That's lovely that other people are starting to notice.

I'm down by a similar amount. No comments other than from family so far.

@eibbed999 a decent bra is so important. It is something I will treat myself to when I have lost a bit more weight. Not sure there is anywhere close by to do fitting though.

Doggymummar · 14/06/2025 09:58

Bras are a minefield aren't they? I've not worn underwired for years as they were all too painful so I had Sugarcandy and Boody, from Vinted of course. I was an XL and probably 36jj or more , which was the last Bravissimo I bought. But that was pre lockdown. And pre the last 5 stone wight gain. I'm now a small in both those brands but really need underwired I think as they touch my waistline now. I measured my self using Boob or Bust and an a 32 f but they said size up for comfort. Ordered 2 From brastop in the sale last week, 34 f and they fit ok but on the tightest notch, so I'm guessing they might not last too long.

However, they were £9 each instead of the £50 plus I needed to pay when they were bigger so it's not such an issue.

Any recommendations for reasonable priced bras gladly taken

WafflingDreamer · 14/06/2025 11:34

In terms of clothes I bought 4 or 5 pairs of bottoms from vinted, at the moment I stick with what I know works so I buy from the same brand and similar styles just a size smaller. I also ordered two dresses from Shein. I'm hoping that will last me most of the summer as I seem to be dropping dress sizes much slower than I had imagined.

SeaStoat · 14/06/2025 12:21

I really like Vinted for ease of getting some low cost clothes that fit. I've had some big successes, a couple of fails, and I have some jeans in a style I like waiting for me to be sizes 22 & 20. I think it's worked best when I know the brand and that it is likely to suit me. I'm spending some time in London in late July so will need some clothes that fit then. I realise I don't need many clothes - a capsule wardrobe by default.

I'm going to get my colours updated as I think they've changed as I'm ageing. I must check out other sites next time I'm clothes shopping.

I hate the smell that many buyers seem to spray on their clothes before mailing - maybe freebreeze or similar. Obviously it goes once washed. I just got 2 M&S linen shirts - I hadn't expected such thin material. They are as described - but I am underwhelmed by M&S. I am also suprised to find the size 24 linen trews I bought have buttons so you can roll up and use straps to button the rollup in place. Not what I wanted - but hey - they fit and it's hot.

Re bras - I'm wearing a bra that I haven't yet shrunk into but fits on the cups with an extender. I need to buy another bra as my others are too big.

I highly recommend this calculator if you want good fitting as you shrink. It seems most of us need a much smaller band and bigger cups..... so that's a challenge!! There's a sub reddit that provides further advice. https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php

I still haven't shrunk enough to buy new clothes but I'm looking forwards to it! Having said that I've got a thin summer waterproof that I don't really wear and it's size 28 and definitely on the big side!

I've taken photos again today. I hadn't since April and it brings up so many feelings. I don't own a full length mirror and don't take photos of myself in general so although I know I'm huge I don't have to actually see it usually.

I can see looking at the photos I've made a lot of progress since Jan. And even my "granny knickers" look different in the photo. Instead of being around my apron/overhang they sort of look more like knickers in he photo. Same size but fit much better! Or differently maybe.

However I hate seeing how big my stomach is. It's like a huge attachment to my body. No wonder I've struggled with walking in the past it must affect posture and muscles and everything pulling in front.

Id been feeling so good about losing 4stone I thought maybe my giant stomach wasn't so obviously there anymore ... But given Im still very obese of course it is! Im not sure what I'm saying really. Of course I'm pleased it's making progress but I think maybe due to weight loss I thought I was looking better than I am!!! It's sobering. It's a long journey for anyone in our group isn't it. It will come.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/06/2025 12:44

I can't wait to be "normal". Not thin or slim. Just regular sized and able to buy clothes in regular shops and not have a giant appendage on my front.

I so want to be able to wear trousers! I love my leggings but I just want to be able to not have to consider being round.

They are a minefield! As with clothes, the sizing seems all over the place depending on the retailer and the style. I was wearing jersey ones I bought off amazon years ago, 48 and 50 on the band and pretty much zero support. It's nice to have a fancy one for when I'm 'out out', but I wouldn't have risked it if it wasn't in the sale. I am actually quite impressed with the range of sizes on Victoria's Secret - not a place I would dream of looking as I associate it with perfect model figures - but that's an incorrect assumption. Plus the ladies on their website really are representative of pretty much every size and shape out there, which is nice to see. They are not cheap though, except in the sale.

I know just how you feel @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden. I feel so much better and so much leaner, I expect to look like a size 10! Then seeing the giant belly and the fat apron and the wrinkled, crinkled thighs makes me sad. It's okay to feel like that, we know we're heading to better times every single day - it's just slow! I have been excited about my losses so far (one pound away from 3 stone), but there was a rugby match on and the commentator was talking about some 'beast' of a bloke who was 6 ft 4 and weighed 19 stone...the same as me. It is sobering. It's really good we have each other to talk to and to help when our motivation is flagging.

I bought some gorgeous linen trousers from Next, and they did fit me - but my belly is so big it looked like someone had stuffed a cannonball down my pants! Or, as the trousers kind of cut it in half, like two cannonballs! I'd love to wear trousers but they simply don't suit my physique right now. We'll get there!
