How much weight did you loose before you dropped a dress size?

Just curious how much weight it has taken people to drop a dress size, also how long that took. Most my clothes are size 18 but if I’m really honest I’m probably more of a 20. I’ve just started Mounjaro and dropped from 98kg to 94kg and I’m just mulling over how long it will take to drop a size. I feel like I probably need to drop 2 stone before I’ll notice much difference as 1/2 stone has made hardly any difference.

I was a 20. I've lost 4 stone and now down to a 16. Experience has shown I'll start dropping the sizes quicker now I've passed the halfway point. The less I weigh, the less I need to lose to go down a size. I think all bodies are different though.

ScrewedByFunding · 30/05/2025 16:37

Agree with above, Google the kitchen roll/ paper towel theory.

I've lost 4.5 stone and am now 20 down to 16 on top and 22/24 down to 20 on the bottom.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 30/05/2025 16:51

I agree the sizes get much closer together as you lose weight.

I started as an 18 and having lost just over 3 1.2stone I'm a small 12 edging to a 10

The first size took over 20lb to get to the 16's
I think the 16 to 14 was over a stone
But the difference between 12 and getting in to 10's is less than 1/2 stone

I wish I'd tracked that metric but I didn't think to at the time.

With Mounjaro it happened quite quickly (16 weeks to lose the 3stone 4 to target) and I've been maintaining it still going down a bit on average for 9 weeks now.

In the last few weeks I've only lost 1lb ish but have noticed size changes as my weight consolidates

I didn't think to measure until 9 weeks in but I'd lost 4 inches off my waist by then. The. List about an inch a month until target (18% in total)

A stone a dress size.
That's what mime has done.
4 stone off.. four dress sizes down.
I'm selling and buying on vinted like mad.

doodleschnoodle · 30/05/2025 16:54

I’ve gone from a 16-18 (16 on top, 18 on bottom) to a 6-8 on top and 8-10 on bottom, with 5 stone loss. I was fairly comfortably wearing my 16-18 stuff for the first 2 stone probably, it was looser but still wearable, and then very rapidly had to size down.

MJafterWLS · 30/05/2025 16:59

Just over 2 stone gone and gone from size 18 jeans to size 14, which are already looking a bit baggy. Took about a stone loss to go from a size 18 to a 16, then I literally had to go to M&S 2 weeks on the trot to get the 16 and then a week later a 14! I only lost a couple of pounds that week but noticed a big change in my measurements. I'm hoping to go for size 12 in the next couple of weeks!!

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 30/05/2025 17:02

Thanks, yes the kitchen roll analogy is good. I’m just trying to have a rough feel for how long till I start noticing changes and dress size is the easiest measure. I’m wearing size 18 jeans at the moment but it’s very variable as I don’t fit in 18’s in all shops so I’m probably in a bit of denial. Sounds like 2 stone is probably realistic for dropping a dress size though. Just a useful measure in my mind. I’m oddly enjoying not buying clothes etc as I’m looking forward to buying things in a smaller size and being able to fit back in half my wardrobe. It is full of size 16s that don’t fit!

I had to do a stone and a half to move dress size. I think bodies are all different in where we lose from

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 30/05/2025 17:04

Wow, you are all so inspiring. I feel super motivated.

@lifetheuniverseandeverything42 don't forget to keep trying on the 'too small' clothes. It's really annoying if you don't realise when they fit and by the time you try them on they are too big.

I did that and missed wearing some nice things. Luckily I had smaller sizes to move on to but still was annoyed lol

I think it takes your mind a long time to register both weight loss and weight gain. At the moment when i look at closes that are really my size they look tiny and I can't imagine them fitting, hence the suggestion to keep trying them on, as I don't think you can tell any other way.

Also it's quite nice to notice the difference even if they don't yet fit. So last week I couldn't get them up, this week I can get them up but not done up, next they do up but with a big muffin top to oh they look alright 😊

Nextdoormat · 30/05/2025 17:34

I have also lost 4 stone top was sixe 20 bottom 16. Now top 14, bottom 12/14.
I suppose it depends where your weight is distributed. My boob's always been big and still big, my hips and bum narrow by comparison. I would fit smaller bottom but stubborn stomach fat 😒 refusing to budge.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 30/05/2025 17:37

It's not always about the number on the scale it's about measurements as well so get a bag of too small clothes, a belt to check which hole you can get to and your tape measure and measure each week/month and you will see the progress you make.

I've lost 25lb so nearly 2 stone but I've also lost 17cm off bust, 14cm off waist and 15cm around the area by my belly button. It's those measurements that keep me going in this thing.

I was a 18/20 but now a comfortable 16.

Xiaoxiong · 30/05/2025 17:45

I do think everyone's different. I've lost 22kg, and have gone from a 12/14 to a 10. I'm still wearing a lot of my size 12 stuff, especially older clothes that aren't cut so baggy like some newer clothes. It took me at least 10kg before size 14 was too big, and another 10kg to be comfortably into size 10 - I think that's 1.5 stone each time.

Most of my loss has been from boobs, bum and tum but it's truly surprising how many other places I didn't think I was carrying any weight but where I have lost - like across my back, upper arms, my hands and feet, and my neck!

daffodilandtulip · 30/05/2025 17:52

I was size 18 and have lost just over 5 stone, I'm now a size 8. I'm short so I guess it's height too.

Ahh I did this so much 😫. Also trying on in shops is a nightmare, I look at it and won't even try it because it looks too small, then the one I tried on is far too big!

MissionToSize10 · 30/05/2025 19:43

im 5ft 8in and started at size 18 at 17.3

im just now finding i can get into a 16 and im currently 15.8 but they are tight

Histoscientist · 30/05/2025 19:44

I was a big size 14 (probably a loose 16 really but refused to buy them) at 13 stones 1lb 5ft 3", took me 1.5 stones loss to get to a size 12 around 11.5st, I'm now 10st 7lbs still a 12. All my 14s are too big so I've got the sewing machine out to tighten the ones I want to keep. I was an apple shape so it's probably to do with fat distribution, I still have a belly now so don't think I'll get to a size 10 unless it goes down.

SmallFried · 30/05/2025 19:48

It took 2.5 stone for me to drop a dress size. Then another stone to drop one more. But I hold weight round my middle.

Mounjarogirl25 · 30/05/2025 19:48

Almost 2 stone down and not dropped a dress size yet, I was an 18, I'm still an 18. Clothes are a bit loser but I think i need to lose at least another stone before I'm a 16

HobbyHorse30 · 30/05/2025 20:00

I’ve lost 10 stone 10lbs, and have gone from a 24/26 to a 10. I’d say that it hasn’t been linear - it wasn’t a case of X lbs = 1 dress size. Sometimes I went for ages (weight wise) between sizes, and other times a relatively small loss was a full dress size.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 31/05/2025 09:32

I am 5'7" and have lost 3.5 stone so far, currently 12.12

I found it took almost 2 stone to drop the first dress size.
But I was measuring myself and could see I was losing lots of cm around my waist/hips/arms/thoghs etc.

I think that is because, at the start, I was wearing clothes that were more than a bit snug, so to start with they just felt looser.
I also started the exercise programme carefully and gently, so it wasn't until I had lost a couple of stone that I was doing enough to really notice everything toning and 'tightening up', then that really helped the dress sizes go down.

Since then, having lost a total of 3.5 stone I have gone from a realistic 20 down to a 14/16.
I bought 2 dresses from Boden yesterday, in one style the 14 fitted, in the other it was the 16.

I agree with PP's, keep checking those 'smaller clothes' you have stored away or pushed to the back of the wardrobe.
I got all of mine out a few weeks ago and DD encouraged me to try it all on. I kept saying 'this one won't fit yet', but they all did!

MagnoliaTreePetals · 31/05/2025 09:33

@HobbyHorse30 WOW! 10 stone 10! you are an amazing inspiration. Many, Many congratulations.

TheaBrandt1 · 31/05/2025 09:45

I got to 76kg in 2019 so dropped to 62kg for a few years went from 12/14 to 10. Back to 70kg annoyingly so 8kg to lose again

Thank you! I’m one year post-gastric bypass and I’ve never felt happier or healthier x

usedtobeaylis · 31/05/2025 11:28

I'm 5' 6", started at 16.5 stone and a size 16/18. I've lost 2st 6lb and I'm still in a size 16, although I have to say they fit better.

Where I've noticed the main difference is in mens clothing. I wear mens L t-shirts as I like the cut better but just recently I've had to go into an M.
