How much weight did you loose before you dropped a dress size?

Just curious how much weight it has taken people to drop a dress size, also how long that took. Most my clothes are size 18 but if I’m really honest I’m probably more of a 20. I’ve just started Mounjaro and dropped from 98kg to 94kg and I’m just mulling over how long it will take to drop a size. I feel like I probably need to drop 2 stone before I’ll notice much difference as 1/2 stone has made hardly any difference.

I'm 5'5'' and I would say it is 2 st to lose a dress size at the bigger end (size 18+) but a lot less at the smaller end (maybe 7-10 lbs between a 10 and a 12).

I've lost 45 lbs and gone from a big size 20 (aka a 22, but never wore that size) to a size 18, but a true size 16 is still too tight. It was a pair of monsoon jeans that shocked me into starting this journey. I had a pair in a size 20 and then bought another pair exactly the same as original pair were getting a bit worn. As they were new, I just could not get them on. I lost about 7 lbs before I could do them up, fairly uncomfortably. I can still wear them but they are very unflattering as they are so loose now, I retired them a couple of weeks back.

I've gone from 12/14 to 10/12 and I've lost 1.5 stone, was 13st 4lbs and 5'7". Have 11lbs to go to 11 stone, and I'll likely be properly a size 10.

TheaBrandt1 · 01/06/2025 12:17

Hmm I’m 11 stone now and definitely a standard 12 nowhere near a 10. I was a 10 at 10 stone 2 which is my goal weight.

PomegranateVase · 01/06/2025 12:40

I lost 1.5 stone and was able to comfortably fit into a size 16 again from a size 18-20.

MilesOfMotivation · 01/06/2025 12:41

3 stone to go from 14-16 to 10-12

autumn1610 · 01/06/2025 12:46

Was 13st10 size 16 on bottom (don’t really bother too much with top sizes as wear oversized a lot) now 12st6lbs and would say I’m a 14. But I’m not buying new clothes but my old 14’s fit

macandcheeseforthewine · 01/06/2025 15:53

I've lost 3 and half stone and only dropped one dress size (from an 18 to a 16).

My BMI is now 23.7, so it seems kind of weird to be a 16, but it is what it is. I'm 5"9.

When I've lost weight before, I have always had to drop loads before going down a dress size. I'm jealous of people that only need to drop a stone to lose a size!

GingerPaste · 01/06/2025 15:59

It was about a stone for me to drop down a size.

TheChosenTwo · 01/06/2025 16:08

I think I stayed in my 16/18 clothes until I’d lost about 2 stone, I started out at dead on 16 stone. from memory I was about 14 stone by the time I could start buying size 14 clothes.
I’m now 11 stone 3 and am in size 12 for the most part, some are too loose but I’m keeping hold of them. I went mad and bought so many lovely new clothes just because I could and I want to enjoy wearing them as they bring me so much happiness! At 5’7 I think size 12 suits my frame and body shape so will most likely remain at this sort of weight and size.
my feet have shrunk though and I’ve lost bloating and chub from my hands. Half expected my fingers to slim down but didn’t realise you could lose weight from your feet!

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 01/06/2025 16:20

I lost 7 stone years ago and only went down one or two dress sizes, so I know I will never be one of those people in magazines standing inside the leg of their old trousers! 🤣

im currently 2 stone down after 9 weeks, im definitely smaller, more like an 18 rather than 18-20 now. I’ll be happy being a 14-16 at the end as I’m 6ft tall

BruhWhy · 01/06/2025 16:24

I'm nearly at size 16 down from a 20, and I've lost 3 stone.

Mew2 · 01/06/2025 16:34

So I have lost 36.5kg since last July.
It took just over 15kg for the first dress size to go. Now it can be as little as 3kg to go down a dress size (I have only lost 4kg since Christmas and have gone down 2 dress sizes and bra sizes). Gone from a 24- 40j bra size to a 16 (some are now too big) and a 36gg bra....
Still got a long way to go though- and weight loss is slower (probably due to the amount of exercise I do- 6-8hrs a week minimum), however body fat seems to have rolled off....
I started at 155kg- and out of breath going up the stairs- to 116kg- able to run 1km, and able to ski 1km on a ski machine in 4min 10sec... and row 1km in 4min- getting happier with fitness (but still have a large tummy!!)

susiedaisy1912 · 01/06/2025 16:36

5 stones weight loss and I’ve gone from a 24 to a 20.

Summerisere · 01/06/2025 23:04

About 1.5 stone for the first dress size at the OP’s size and then around a stone per size. Less as the sizes get smaller.

WafflingDreamer · 03/06/2025 11:52

Some of it is about where you carry your weight. I've lost 5st so far; started at 21st 10lb and mainly wearing size 22, I am now 16st 10lb I am pear shaped and carry a lot of weight around my bum and thighs. I am wearing size 20 bottoms although can still just about wear my size 22's I'm wearing size 18 tops.

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 03/06/2025 12:04

It’s amazing how much variation there is. I remembered that a few years ago when I lost some weight before that I used the same scales and found the results in my app. I got down to 79kg and was a small 16. I had one pair of 14 trousers so think I’d probably be a 14 at 75kg and probably need to get to 85kg to be a 16. It feels like such a big mountain to get to a healthy weight that it’s nice to break it up into smaller interim targets along the way. I’m over 4kg down after two weeks. If I aim for around 1kg a week I’ll no longer be obese by sept and hoping I can keep going till Christmas to be a healthy weight. I feel quite positive about it thanks to WLI. Unfortunately I’ll be too skint to afford any new clothes by then as we have just started a house extension!

Almost 2 stone down and not dropped a dress size yet, I was an 18, I'm still an 18. Clothes are a bit loser but I think i need to lose at least another stone before I'm a 16

I'm exactly the same.

Mounjarogirl25 · 03/06/2025 13:37

SusanSometimes · 03/06/2025 12:05

I'm exactly the same.

It's so frustrating isn't it!

parfaitamour · 03/06/2025 13:44

5' 6, started at 14 4, now 11 6. Was in 18 but 20 in tops as bust always very large on me. Size 14, just, around the hips, but still can't get into size 16 denim dresses I have bought from Vinted, which is super annoying.

I can only dream of picking up such small sizes as every else at this weight. It's a bit disheartening as I feel so large still.

Nellodee · 03/06/2025 18:21

I feel your pain, Parfait. I’m another 5’5, 11s7, size 16 - exactly the same size as I started a stone and a half earlier. Some of my trousers are drooping a tiny bit, but I still have a size 16 top that doesn’t fit me, and I don’t even have enormous boobs.

DrMonjo · 04/06/2025 10:05

Thanks for the thread. It's frustrating isn't it.
I think I didn't notice the extra stone going on because I just continued to fill out the post COVID oversized 18s, probably was a 20.

My weight at 196lbs was very much on my stomach. I needed those M&S size 20 pants to fit my 110 cm stomach in.
I've just had a whoosh after a slow steady loss and at 176Lbs my waist is 97cm. Still in size 18s and I think I will be for awhile.

I went from a 12 to a 16 at one point post kids and I remember losing weight and toning up, looking at the previously fitted 16 evening dress and thinking how did I ever fill that!

Puberty, childbirth, menopause certainly shift your proportions around. I'm not sure even with a lot of loss, I'll ever have the waist for a 12/14

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 04/06/2025 15:07

I’ve lost 2 stone now and not gone down a size yet. My clothes are looser but not loose enough to go down yet.

im quite enjoying things feeling loose though rather than a little on the right side as they were.

WasherWoman25 · 04/06/2025 15:12

It took a while to notice at first. I think because I was pushing my clothes size to the max!

I started at a 22/24, I’m 3st 8lb down and could get into 18s at the weekend. I would say around 1st per size as a rough guess. Hopefully will get smaller as I continue to go down the sizes.

housemaus · 04/06/2025 15:13

I started at a 20 (sometimes a 22 on the bottom) and it took a good 2 stone for me to be comfortably in an 18 all over.

I've now lost 4 stone and I'm a comfortable size 14 on top and a cosy-but-a-pound-or-two-more-and-it'll-be-fine 14 on the bottom - so about two sizes down in 2st, compared to 2st for the first size drop. If I get to my goal weight, which is another 1.5 stone, I'm really not sure what size I'll end up being!
