I’m absolutely fascinated by these threads and can’t get enough of all your stories! I think it’s because I’m so excited to start it myself and having made the decision to order some after my holiday next week, I’d love to know more about your journey with Mounjaro to keep me going while I wait!

  1. How long have you been using Mounjaro?
  2. How long did you stay at each dose before increasing?
  3. How much weight have you lost so far?
  4. If you’ve reached your goal weight, what dose are you maintaining on?
  5. What’s the one piece of advice you wish you’d been given when you started?

FEW months not DUDES!! Missing the BETA app SOOO much!!!

I’m in a real quandary about telling the truth. Particularly to my mum who is absolutely obsessed with weightloss (not her fault, it’s social conditioning) and I just don’t want the constant comments on how I’m looking or how it’s going etc. Particularly around my daughter who I’m trying to shield from the whole “good food, bad food, fat is bad, slim is good” bloody constant messaging I grew up with.

I mean, I’ll get the comments anyway I guess as I’ll be losing weight. I just don’t want it to be the sole focus of our conversations.

  1. I'll have been on it for 10 weeks tomorrow
  1. I did 5 weeks at 2.5mg, 2 weeks at 3.75 (not an official dosage) and tomorrow will be my third dose of 5mg.
  1. 16 pounds. 1-2 pound a week
  1. Not at goal weight yet.
  1. Not advice as such but my only regret is not starting earlier. A tip I would give is look at "monj" comparison site to get the best price I swap pharmacy each month to get the best price

  5. What’s the one piece of advice you wish you’d been given when you started?
  1. Since March 2024, so 14 months
  2. Generally 10 weeks, but it varied according to how my weight loss was tracking
  3. 62lbs, or 4st 4lbs
  4. I'm maintaining on 15mg at the moment, but planning to drop this with my next pen, probably to 10mg and see how I get on
  5. Save money/start selling things on Vinted to get you positioned to buy a new wardrobe - you will need one! I was a size 16-18 and am now a size 8-10. It's a huge difference in clothing terms. Things I thought I could still wear and pass off as baggy honestly just look silly and I've needed to start from scratch.

edit:
Age 32
Height 5ft 7ins
SW 14st 6lbs (though at my heaviest I was 16st 6lbs, I lost the first 2 before MJ)
CW 10st 1lb
My goal weight was 10st 5lbs but I have come down a little further.

I am so glad you are feeling happy and positive about starting on MJ.

I started in November. I went to a specialist Dr at my local private hospital as I had other health concerns and wanted the best advice/care. I now speak to him or email him every month and then we decide the next pen dosage.

My Journey: 2.5mg for 4 weeks, 5mg for 4 weeks, 7.5mg for 4 weeks, then had to have a planned short break for health reasons. The Dr restarted me on 5mg for a month, then back to 7.5 for a month, now on my second month of 10mg which seems to be the right dosage for me at the moment.

I have lost 3 Stone 7lb, current target only 7lb away but I may reduce that a bit when I get there. (A healthy BMI is still 1 stone away) When I am at the weight I wish to stay at, the plan is for me to reduce the dosages very slowly and maybe space them out a little, until I find the right level for me to maintain on.

I was lucky to get lots of advice from the Doctor, so I was already eating a high protein and high fibre diet when my first pen arrived, I'm also eating a low carb diet avoiding 'white carbs' if at all possible. I don't count calories. Ive taken up exercising to preserve muscle etc.
I wish I knew about the Mumsnet groups right from the start as I have found the advice and support here invaluable.
Drink LOTS of water, just keep drinking water, and take it with you wherever you go.
It took me 3 months to be brave enough to let DH and DC in on my 'secret' as to how I was losing weight so successfully. They have been incredibly supportive and understanding, I wish I had told them sooner. I have also told my wonderfully supportive sister. I am not telling anyone else.

There have been some side effects most weeks; eg intermittent nausea and/or indigestion, but bearable. Usually when I have left too long a gap between meals.
Previously I was just so unhappy, worried and depressed about my size and my health. I am now happy, confident and feel like myself again.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/05/2025 18:24

@User99999999 no need to tell anyone at all. I haven't really told people any just say thank you when anyone comments on how I look. None of their business!!

BobberleeBeaner · 23/05/2025 09:00

Morning 😊. Never posted ANYTHING before but my life has changed so positively since starting MJ in November 2024 that I wanted to share!

61 and 3/4
5’2’’ in thick socks
SW 14 6.5 but was 15 9.5 in 2022
CW 11 2.25
GW 10
BMI was 40+ and now 28
Moved up every 4 weeks
SE VERY mild- mainly feeling cold 🥶
Blood pressure meds halved 👏
Moderate/severe osteoarthritis symptoms in ankles has all but disappeared

Booze intake almost nonexistent but for the first time since the age of FOREVER I don’t feel ‘deprived’. 0% lager topped up with sugar free lemonade works well.

Tips: buy a heated throw; don’t feel compelled to tell people you’re using MJ unless you want to; have a ‘script’ ready that you’re comfortable with if you’re asked directly; count non-scale victories (being able to park the car in a bay and not being terrified that someone might park too close and you have to wait until they come back 😂); plan meals.
i use Nutracheck.

Just come back from a cycling holiday & did over 100 miles across three rides ….which would have been unheard of a year ago. It’s life changing and, for me, I believe life extending.

Pen 12 (15.0 mg) -

I've taken 50 doses of MJ and lost 44 lbs - see graph for detail.

The short story: I had fairly bad side effect moving from 2.5 mg to 5 mg which made me over cautious going up (haven't had any side effects for a very long time now) and I also haven't been trying that hard with my diet/exercise and letting MJ do all the work - as a result of that and perimenopause it has been very slow/almost maintenance for the last 30 weeks. I am now motivated to really start trying again and make this work for me!

The long story:

On bolded weeks I had side-effects to the extent that I thought it was best to drop down again (used a plotter - looks like a big step back down but in reality it wasn't due to the 5 day half life), which worked well. Approx. weeks 10-25 I got an injection site rash but that has now stopped.

As 2.5 mg did work for me, I think I should've taken 3.75 mg for at least four weeks. I did feel I needed to go up at the end of the initial four weeks on 2.5 mg though. I took the 3.2 mg simply because that was the bonus dose. Then decided to take it a bit slower up to 5 mg (did two weeks on 4.2 mg because I was on holiday the second week and didn't want to go up a dose - that was the right decision!). In hindsight I was a bit too suppressed on 4.2 mg and should not have gone up.

I was then a bit too cautious going up, then it was Christmas season so I decided to stay a bit under-suppressed until the new year. I've probably been under suppressed for the most part since, and pretty much just been unwittingly using it for maintenance. I do my injection on a Thu and WI on a Sat, but apart from that I've slipped into not thinking about it much - and not really trying.

My main issues with food are not having making a consistent effort with planning and prepping, and enjoying a glass of wine too often. I am also 52 and in the latter stages of perimenopause, and although fairly active with my job regular exercise outside of this still needs to be added it - so I never expected to lose fast.

As I approach the one year mark and 15 mg, I am definitely trying to step things up now and get back to losing properly and taking exercise more seriously (haven't done this weeks WI yet). Consistently changing habits around food planning/prep is a big part of this. I do feel and look so much better though, even though my weight loss has been far from amazing overall (and that is down to me, I know this). I always expected to be on MJ for two years and now I expect to be on it, or another weight loss, med long-term.

I guess my initial early mistake was hard to predict though - 2.5 mg also worked well for my friend, she stayed on it for an extra month and then went straight up to 5 mg with no problems at all. She is now up to 10 mg and only went up in standard doses with no side effects. She has also slipped into not losing much now though for similar reasons. What is great though is that despite having a lull in our efforts we are not gaining and going backwards.

Could you share your Mounjaro journey with me?

I’m in a real quandary about telling the truth. Particularly to my mum who is absolutely obsessed with weightloss (not her fault, it’s social conditioning) and I just don’t want the constant comments on how I’m looking or how it’s going etc. Particularly around my daughter who I’m trying to shield from the whole “good food, bad food, fat is bad, slim is good” bloody constant messaging I grew up with.

I mean, I’ll get the comments anyway I guess as I’ll be losing weight. I just don’t want it to be the sole focus of our conversations.

I'm just about to receive my first delivery. 13st 9lbs on a 5ft 4in frame. My mum (love her) is TINY and has always made comments about my size... Example: Only this week my friend popped around hers - "my goodness she's huge, bigger than you". She is my 2nd worst critic, the first being myself after 40 years of subliminal conditioning. I WON'T BE TELLING HER!!!!
Best of wishes for your journey 😘

GoldenMalicious · 23/05/2025 12:11

I'm still in the relatively early stages - today marks two months since I began my MJ journey.

I have stayed on 2.5mg throughout - I read quite a few comments from people saying that they wished they'd stayed on lower doses so I requested to remain on the lowest dose and review how I get on.

So far I have lost 10.5kg (1st 9lb). Outside of the big drop in the first week I have been averaging around 1kg per week which I am happy with. This week my BMI has dropped below 30 which is a small cause for celebration!

I still need to lose another 13-15kg to get to where I'd like to be - but I will review my goal as I get closer.

In terms of advice - well, I took the suggestion to stick on the lower doses and that appears to be working for me at the moment so I am grateful for that information. I think the main thing that I didn't necessarily appreciate was that this is more than just 'eat less, lose weight' and is about a more fundamental rethink of what you eat (and what you don't eat!), and in particular to focus on protein intake. I am very aware that if I slip back into old habits I will simply regain so I need to take positive steps on both nutrition and exercise - I'm making progress on the nutrition but really need to ramp up on the exercise. Also - I love a graph and numbers so I have been tracking calories in as well as macros, and also tracking my body composition as well as weight loss. For me that is added motivation and helps me to keep focused on the important measures.

myplace · 23/05/2025 12:30

Great thread. Thanks OP!
And thanks @fatgirlswims for adding the money!
I’m happy to pay for the weight loss. I’m hesitating until I know how much a lifelong maintenance dose will be. I’m under no illusions after a lifetime of obesity, I’ll likely need this in some form indefinitely.

ThrowingHands · 23/05/2025 13:29

Hey OP.

I'm 3 months into my mounjaro journey. Been on 2.5mg for the entire time.

17lbs in the first month (a lot of water weight!), 8lbs in the second, 7lbs in the third. 32lbs in total. Not at goal weight yet - another 40-ish lbs to go.

It's honestly been life-changing for me. My advice would be make sure you're drinking enough water, don't compare your journey to anyone else's, and celebrate those non-scale victories Smile

  1. 13 months (now on maintenance dose of 2.5 mg a week) 2)I stayed at 2.5 for one month, 5mg for 3 months and 7.5 for 2 months but it made me so ill I went down to 5 again where I stayed for 4 months then down to maintenance 3)4.5 stone 4)2.5 per week, going to change this to 10 days soon
  2. use glycerine suppositories from the start. The constipation is grim, finding these were a game changer!

Good luck on your journey, best decision I ever made.

Katkins17 · 23/05/2025 13:47

Hi there.

I’ve been on it since August last year.

Did 2 months of both 2.5 and 5mg, then 3 months each on 7mg and 10mg

on my second month of 12.5mg.

I’ve lost 5 stone 7 lbs and nearly at my target weight.
It’s taken me 3 months to lose the last stone … so it’s slow going … but I’m a size 12 from a size 22 so I’m not too worried.

Good luck x x

This is such a lovely thread and so reassuring for those of us about to start this journey.
Thank you for sharing.

And is everyone getting their jabs from online pharmacies?
I meet the NHS criteria as BMI >30 and with medical issues due to it but GP isn't the most proactive and I don't want to make an appointment only to get laughed at.

SweetChilliGirl · 23/05/2025 15:06

I'm only on week 6 but have lost a stone and feel better for it already.

InfoSecInTheCity · 23/05/2025 15:09
  1. I started 5th Sept 2024
  2. 2.5mg x 4 weeks, 5mg x 20 weeks, 7.5mg x 4 weeks, 10mg - still on this dose
  3. 66lb lost so far
  4. not applicable just yet but not far off
  5. Drink water, single most important thing to do, your body uses it to break down fat, to heal sore muscles and if you don’t drink enough then you will retain water. 9/10 if I have a stall I can track it back to slacking on drinking water and a couple of days of hitting 2lts a day gets the scales moving again.

The NhS eligibility criteria is that you meet the BMI requirement and that you’ve been referred through the weight loss programme, and reached I think it’s the Tier 3 level which means you’ve been unable to lose weight while on the programme through traditional means.

i am very lucky and am prescribed it via the NHS but it was predominantly due to T2 diabetes because I was on Insulin and Metformin combined and glucose levels were still high and my BMi was 33 so I qualified for Mounjaro.

Radiatorvalves · 23/05/2025 15:47

Hello! Do many threads here. My question is what do you actually need with the first order?

if I order (through Oushk) 1 bundle of Mountjaro 2.5, it includes 6 needles (so for 6 weeks??). Do I need anything else?

if there’s a better thread please do redirect me! Thanks. X

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/05/2025 16:05

@Radiatorvalves you need alcohol wipes (for pen & injection site) and a sharps box for used needles.

My supplier sells a "starter kit" with sharps box, needles & wipes that I purchased with my first pen.

Radiatorvalves · 23/05/2025 16:09

Great name @RobinEllacotStrike and thank you!

  1. Been on mj for 20 weeks
  1. Stayed on each dose for:

2.5mg - 4 weeks
5mg - 4 weeks
7.5mg - 8 weeks
10mg - 4 weeks
12.5mg - starting Monday!!

  1. I've lost 3.5 stone - over 25% of my body weight!!
  1. I've reached goal, (yey! 🎉) and after these next 4 weeks on 12.5mg (want to drop a bit below goal so I have some wiggle room!) I intend to go back down the doses the exact same way I went up (4 weeks at 10mg, 8 weeks 7.5mg, 4 weeks 5mg, then stay on 2.5 for about a year and see how I am then...)
  1. Advice? mmmm... It's going to be expensive and you will love not having the food noise, so you'll b v worried about stopping it and might want to stay on it a while! The price adds up quickly!! Be prepared!

I have gone to our local pharmacy & spent half an hour face to face with the pharmacist before getting my prescription.
A box of 100 needles, plus 100 wipes. Plus a sharps box thrown in for free.
After my 4th jab I go back chat again and get my next prescription. Today is Day 1

Does the price change with the dose?
