Could you share your Mounjaro journey with me?

I’m absolutely fascinated by these threads and can’t get enough of all your stories! I think it’s because I’m so excited to start it myself and having made the decision to order some after my holiday next week, I’d love to know more about your journey with Mounjaro to keep me going while I wait!

  1. How long have you been using Mounjaro?
  2. How long did you stay at each dose before increasing?
  3. How much weight have you lost so far?
  4. If you’ve reached your goal weight, what dose are you maintaining on?
  5. What’s the one piece of advice you wish you’d been given when you started?
OP posts:

  1. Started June 2024
  2. I moved a up each month until reached 7.5mg but never moved up further. Been on that dose ever since. Didn’t move up again due to nausea and tiredness and because I was losing weight I didn’t really need to.
  3. Lost 53 pounds (nearly 4 stone)
  4. Weight plateaued now. Would like to lose a little more though.
  5. If you have any side effects just stick with it and don’t give up as it gets easier! It’s been the best thing ever and can’t tell you how great it is to have lost the weight. All the best with it!

  1. How long have you been using Mounjaro?
10 weeks and 1 day!
  1. How long did you stay at each dose before increasing?
4 weeks 2.5 and currently on 5. Have 2 more doses of 5 before I move to the 7.5 already waiting in the fridge
  1. How much weight have you lost so far?
35lbs (2.5stone). Weirdly apart from my first 3 weeks (6lbs, 6lbs & 2lbs) I have lost exactly 3lbs every week for the last 7 weeks
  1. If you’ve reached your goal weight, what dose are you maintaining on?
I’m a long way from the end!
  1. What’s the one piece of advice you wish you’d been given when you started?
I don’t tend to do anything without weeks/months of research so I felt pretty prepared. I would recommend psyllium husk and magnesium citrate supplements to avoid bowel issues. Oh and using instagram recipes from fitness /health influencers, current trend for low calorie, super high protein, unprocessed ingredient meals is perfect for MJ eating.

Does it help with cravings for chocolate and wine?

12purplepencils · 24/05/2025 14:50

Started July 2024 @ 88.8kg, BMI 34.8 (I'm 5'4" or so)

Life long yoyo dieter, binge eater etc. tried everything and managed to lose a lot of weight a few times but it never stuck.

Didn't notice anything the first couple of weeks. Then slow but steady loss, tend to have 1 week a month where I stay the same/gain slightly, then lose more the next week.

Currently 72kg, BMI 28.
So about 19% of body weight lost. Am pleased it's been slow and steady.
Going to maintain around 70kg I think, am sure I will need to continue taking it indefinitely.

Currently on 7.5mg and don't anticipate going higher. Have titrated up gradually and "counted clicks" to do inbetween doses. Have always stayed on a dose more than 1 month apart from at the beginning on 2.5. Bit sensitive to sulphur burps and loose bowels when moving up so need to take care of what I'm eating around injection day and not moving up full doses.

Does it help with cravings for chocolate and wine?

Yes, although I have still been able to enjoy both of those things.
Mainly only drink now at the weekend which is towards the end of my mounjaro week (I inject on a Tuesday). I wouldn't be able to or feel like drinking much in the few days after I inject.

EmmaD9 · 24/05/2025 14:57

Can I ask, has anyone with a fear of injections managed well with mounjaro?

I can’t work out whether it’s worth me trying or not. Reading all your responses has been really helpful.

Can anyone explain exactly how it works in terms of injecting?

troppibambini6 · 24/05/2025 15:18

I’ve been taking it since end of August last year.
My starting weight was 14.4 I was a size 16 I’m now 9. 12 and a small size 10. I’ve lost 4 and a half stone.

I stayed in each dose as long as I could usually between 1 and 3 months although I’ve been on 12.5 for four months and plan to reduce down now.

Biggest advice is use it as a tool to make some permanent changes to the way you eat. If you just use it to eat smaller portions of what you were eating before it will still come off but flys back on after you stop taking it. I lost two stone on ozempic a couple of years ago and did exactly this.

troppibambini6 · 24/05/2025 15:20

@EmmaD9dh has a fear of needles but even he found it fine. You hardly feel it it’s a small thin pen needle rather than a syringe type needle if that makes sense.

Thank you! Do you hold the pen to your skin, then click and the needle injects, or is the needle visible and you push it into your skin? I hope that makes sense.

And is everyone getting their jabs from online pharmacies?
I meet the NHS criteria as BMI >30 and with medical issues due to it but GP isn't the most proactive and I don't want to make an appointment only to get laughed at.

I don’t think you’ll get it on the NHS unless you are diabetic.

The only chance you would have is if you were first referred to bariatric consultant and exhausted everything else they can offer.

I have BMI > 30 and life threatening and life limiting health issues. I pay privately for my prescriptions because it’s not available to me otherwise.

it’s definitely worth every penny though.

(I'm only on week 4!)

SilenceInside · 24/05/2025 17:12

@EmmaD9 it’s not a press and click type thing. You can see the needle, but it is only 4mm long and incredibly fine so it’s barely visible, and certainly once you press it into your skin you can no longer see it.

Before injecting, you attach the pen needle to the pen, then you prime the pen which means twist it out a couple of clicks and then press it in to check the needle is attached properly and liquid can come out. Then you wind the pen out to the full 1 position which takes 60 clicks and then the pen is ready to inject. You then push it into you, and then manually press the end of the pen down until it goes back to the starting position. It sounds more complicated than it is. You can watch videos of people using the pen which might be clearer than a written explanation!

I used to be needle phobic, but nothing about the Mounjaro pen sets any of that off for me. And it doesn’t hurt at all to do the injection.

Thank you, I really appreciate this explanation! I had tried watching videos but it wasn’t close up enough to really tell what they were doing.

Does the price change with the dose?

Yes the higher doses are more expensive.

You can see prices at monj,uk for all doses.

There is a lot of variation between suppliers in terms of price.

Remember to factor in you can generally get 5 weeks out of a pen instead of 4.

So a maintenance dose is likely to be the lowest dose taken indefinitely? Same frequency and so on?
Still trying to get my head around it!

Fatrosrhun · 24/05/2025 21:28

My husband injected me, I was really nervous, but I didn’t feel the remotest thing. Didn’t even know he’d done it. We tested my blood sugars prior with a glucometer and that was much worse.

Eminybob · 24/05/2025 21:39

How long have you been using Mounjaro? Around 13 months

How long did you stay at each dose before increasing? I went up each month.

How much weight have you lost so far? 7 stone 2lb

If you’ve reached your goal weight, what dose are you maintaining on? I’m at goal weight but still on 15mg as I had a stockpile. I think I’ll try and maintain on 10, I don’t try think I can go any lower as 15 is starting to be less effective for me.

What’s the one piece of advice you wish you’d been given when you started? It’s addictive.

Lardychops · 24/05/2025 21:44

I started 14 Jan at 17,8

Started on 2.5 and then went up every four weeks by 2.5 , just finished 12.5 so will order 15 on Monday to arrive Tuesday.
I also use the last bit in the pen by twisting it hard, on the last week to effectively double dose on that last week.

I have lost 2 stone 12 lbs and am now 14.10, most came off at first and recent weeks are more like 1/2 lb every 2 weeks.

Side effects were Diarrhoea on 10 and mild heartburn/indigestion on and off throughout.

Advice I wish I’d known would be the last dose in the pen before I threw the first two away. Also that while it suppresses your appetite somewhat it’s not a magic wand for me. I am still hungry for 3 x small meals a day (I have a friend who can barely eat in it) and still desire alcohol. Just much less on both fronts and controlling snacking is MUCH easier.

I think the ‘stone a month’ is ambitious too and unlikely for a lot of people.

Also think carefully about telling people - only my sisters know , not even DH. Some of my colleagues / friends are experiencing a lot of judgement/ faux concern from people around them who it really shouldn’t concern.

12purplepencils · 24/05/2025 22:05

@myplace I think it might be different for everyone.

I'm not sure if 2.5 will be my maintenance dose, probably more likely 5. But will see, if love to think I could titrate down over time and have some time off it completely but know myself well and have to be realistic.

I started this morning and got my pen ready for injection into my belly... Looked down as thought I had missed (haha.... Really 😂😂) and it was already in! Absolutely painless 👍🏼😊

Yes my husband did mine and I didn’t even know. And I’ve not had side effects or much suppression this first week. I keep thinking “did he actually do it?” But I have lost 6lbs.

Come and join the May starters group? We’re a friendly bunch.

Hysterectomynext · 28/05/2025 11:05

I’ve stayed the exact same weight for the past 10 days which is disappointing.

I’m exercising and eating at a calorie deficit.

Ive just moved up a dose so hopefully this might help?

Happyearlyretirement · 28/05/2025 12:07

I started August 24, did 4 months on 2.5, 3 months on 5 but had too much suppression so now do 3.75.
lost 4 stone
Will look at maintaining on 2.5 and stretching out to 10 day injections
you loose internal fat first so you may not notice the first stone but that’s the really unhealthy fat around your organs, so wonderful to have that gone.
Only my 2 best friends know I’m on it, I’m glad as people aren’t always pleased for you when you are no longer the fat friend.
Ive discovered a love for exercise that I would never have dreamed of before.
Good luck.

How much have you lost?
I have had several plateaus (33kg down so far) - I think its quite common especially if you have a lot to lose.
Keep doing what you know you have to do & be patient. You will progress through the plateau.

SevernWonders · 28/05/2025 12:17

Today is my 1 year Mounjaversary and I have lost 7 stone as of this morning.
SW 17.13 / BMI 38.2
CW 10.13 / BMI 23.3
TW to stay in the 10 stone range

Stayed on 2.5 for a couple of months until I felt it was wearing off then went to 3.75 and did a couple of months then 5, then 6.25 and have been on 7.5 for a couple of weeks.

Best advice I can give is prioritise protein and fibre, take lots of pics, don't compare your journey to others and don't be disheartened if the scales don't show a loss as it will come down.

I will hopefully stay on this forever as it is so liberating, my head is not constantly thinking about food / I'm not wanting to binge. Also the health benefits of GLP1s are great - this is a long watch (45 minutes) but very informative - not to mention that the doctor is very easy on the eye!
