I do think there's some truth in that in my experience. Consistently low calories don't ever seem to work as well as intermittent calorie levels for me. One of the reasons I do intermittent fasting which sort of has that idea underpinning it - your body needs to get into the 'fasting'/low cal stage to start burning the fat but then interspersed with 'feast' stage where you take in plenty of calories to stop entering into starvation mode where your metabolism goes into panic/preservation mode.
i don't count calories in my meals, i just eat (low-ish carb) normal meals until I'm full. But because I'm only eating twice a day, they are really decent sized meals and I can still remain around 1200-1300 calories per day.

MananaPenelope · 16/05/2025 08:25

@HeavyHeidi its a long time since I’ve heard the word besserwisser! My great great grandfather was German and my grandmother used to throw the odd word in. Having German ancestry wasn’t something you shouted about back then was it?

I think I’ll champion it. I’ll have endless opportunity to use it 😂.

MananaPenelope · 16/05/2025 08:35

My Oushk order is due for delivery today, I’m leaving for the coast once it’s here. As of one hour ago it was at the DPD depot in Reading. I’m 250 miles away from Reading. I hope DPD haven’t let Oushk down again.

BlueLimes · 16/05/2025 08:37

@LillethCrane id go up. Some people don’t lose much until the 10mg doses and above.

HeavyHeidi · 16/05/2025 08:43

@MananaPenelope Germans have the best words.
Schadenfreude is well known, suitable to describe the 'ooh but you'll gain it all back' feeling.
And I am quite familiar with Kummerspeck - "weight a person gains during a period of overeating due to unhappiness"

BlueLimes · 16/05/2025 08:46

There’s been an influx of gloating posters warning us that we’re are either going to gain the weight back, be 20x as hungry or die.

I think they should bog off to the smug know it all board. I assume there’s one.

HeavyHeidi · 16/05/2025 08:53

ha good idea, @BlueLimes - MN should have a special WLI board for people who only want to discuss what lazy cheaters we are and how horrible things will happen to us. I've seen posters literally wishing and hoping we all suffer side effects. Would be better to keep those people away from general public.

Jins · 16/05/2025 09:04

Week 18 weigh in and I’m 1.4lbs down (and less constipated 🤣)

SW. 11st 5. BMI 28.2
CW. 9st 7. BMI 23.6
GW. 9st. BMI. 22.3

Just getting ready to jab and thinking of dropping to 6.25 rather than 7.5 as suppression on 7.5 is too much and I would like to enjoy some food on my holiday. Flight is at 4 and won’t get to the hotel till midnight Greek time so there won’t be much food consumed today.

Anyway - for accountability - pre-holiday weight is 9st 7lbs. I can’t quite believe it! It’s been a very long time since I was 9st 7.

DGonMJ · 16/05/2025 09:06

Morning losers, thank f it’s Friday!
Am down to 62.7kg again today, hovering at last week’s lowest weight but no incremental loss. I’ve barely tracked calories this week as I have not been able to weigh food so it’s guesswork anyway.

@MananaPenelope pumping while driving your 45 min commute sounds v efficient.

Welcome back @Seaitoverthere

@MJalltheway I agree, I think there’s something in the re-feeding technique, where you increase calories for a bit before going back to a deficit. I think our bodies are constantly optimising to be as efficient as possible. With exercise I have to mix up the movements because otherwise certain muscles get really efficient at doing the same thing. So I can imagine the same goes for calories in - if I eat the same quantity of food all the time perhaps my body learns to extract the most amount of nutrition from it and adapts to survive off of it even if that means slowing down metabolism.

discov · 16/05/2025 09:09

@Zempy have a fabulous time in NY!

@MJalltheway great to hear how good you are feeling after such a tough time health-wise. Fingers crossed you get your whoosh next week.

I read a bit of one of those awful threads about WLI and got so mad I had to leave. People saying it was ‘morally wrong’ 😂 Absolutely crackers!

Did my first jab of my second 7.5 pen last night. It’s the first time I haven’t moved up doses after 1 pen but 7.5 seems really good for me. I still get hungry for my meals but don’t want to snack at all. The scales have moved down slightly again today so hopefully I am officially over another sticking point.

I’m now 9st 12 so have 12lbs to get to my ultimate goal. I am worried I will get there and still not be happy but we will see. I am still gobsmacked I am 9 stone something though. I feel like I don’t look it, but equally I have looked back at photos I took back in January and I look like I’ve been inflated, and that was on the lighter side of weight for me too. I didn’t feel that ‘big’ at the time either.

Those who are close to goal weights - have you thought about what you’re going to do maintenance wise? I have my call with Oushk at the start of June. I think I might try and titrate down the doses and see how I get on, but I am worried from a financial perspective as it’s really been a stretch so far. I don’t want to set myself up to fail though so it’s probably worth trying to do a proper maintenance plan rather than go cold turkey.

discov · 16/05/2025 09:10

Well done @Jins I hope you have a fabulous holiday. You must feel brilliant!

HeavyHeidi · 16/05/2025 09:38

Amazing @discov @DGonMJ and @Jins, also enjoy your holiday.

I think I’m going to have to stay away from those threads 🤯

I'm on SheMed so hopefully staying on medication for the year. I tried going down from 5 to 2.5 but I found that my weight was staying static and I still had a couple of pounds to lose so I've gone back up to 5 for my next pen and will not move down until I am at the weight I want to be. I think some of the weight gain may be inflammation which seems to have gone again after a couple of days on 5. It might be a coincidence but I think mj may be a long term medication for me and I may have to stay on 5.
Having gone down for a couple of jabs and back up again I'm finding that I don't have the suppression I had before and so I think I will be able to eat at maintenance on 5.

BlueLimes · 16/05/2025 11:29

Here’s the serum which I think has helped.

Thelittlestranger · 16/05/2025 11:30

I do wonder if there is something in the slow increasing of calories as you come into maintenance. Allowing your body to slowly adjust to the increase, and your metabolism to work with it. Previously I've either been on a diet or off it, but I'm planning on trying a slow reduction to see a) where maintenance is and b) if I can move that point. When I was lifting heavier and eating high protein I was definitely able to eat more without gaining. But it is hard to eat so clean all. The. Time.

Enjoy your holidays ladies...

Morning all!
Have a great holiday @Jins !
I am on day three of pretty much zero appetite and can't tell its the MJ or the fact that I'm not very well or both! Yesterday I had a yogurt and then forced myself to eat a slice of toast about 9pm. It's slightly dangerous as I do generally suffer with disordered eating and I can see myself getting competitive re how little I can eat. I haven't even managed my lemsip today

whyamisuddenlygettingolder · 16/05/2025 11:44

SW. 16st 1.8. BMI 37.6
CW. 12st 8.8. BMI 29.5
GW. 10st 10. BMI 25

Weighed in this morning and have lost 1.2lbs. I went from 2.5mg to 3.75mg last week, and I think I expected a massive loss again, like when I first started, so that's been a rude awakening 😂 but 1.2 is great, and I definitely felt more suppression again this week, so I'm pleased with that. Am going to do this whole pen on 3.75 then see if I feel I need to move to 5mg or not. I've been very lucky with side effects (none except feeling cold and having a runny nose for a few weeks), so I really don't want to push that luck and move up any faster than my body needs.

Also I just noticed that the 0.8 means I've lost exactly 3.5 stone since the start. Shot 18 today!

mince3point14159265 · 16/05/2025 11:45

Hope you have a fabulous holiday @Jins 🏖️

Polkadotdash · 16/05/2025 11:55

Argh. Hysterectomy got cancelled this morning. I’m absolutely gutted. I want these bowling ball fibroids gone. 😭

HeavyHeidi · 16/05/2025 11:56

oh no, how disappointing @Polkadotdash

HeavyHeidi · 16/05/2025 11:58

I've been reading some studies and unfortunately there is some good evidence that eating more protein produces more weight loss, especially fat loss, while preserving muscle mass. The recommended intake is 1.6g per kilo. That's a lot! and I don't really like protein..
Might help with our plateaus though.

discov · 16/05/2025 12:29

@Polkadotdash oh how frustrating, I am sorry. Must be awful having to prepare yourself for it then have it cancelled last minute.

@HeavyHeidi I struggle with protein massively. I am a pescatarian but can be a bit fussy with fish so I tend to eat salmon and smoked mackerel but that’s it really. I have Greek yoghurt every day and for the first couple of months on MJ I was doing protein shakes bur I’ve gone right off them. I’ve gone off eggs too 🤢

Thelittlestranger · 16/05/2025 12:34

Think of it this way - the bigger your muscles are, the more calories they burn. And protein helps you build (and not lose) muscle.

I'm averaging between 70-80grams a day at the moment on 1200 cals

@discov same. I have gone off the taste of protein drinks since the first few weeks. Collagen powder with protein is helping - one coffee in the morning with that in, is my breakfast and gives me 25grams instantly and doesn't have the taste of protein drinks.

Getting to the recommend dose is bloody difficult in a calorie deficit. Plan is to up when I start to maintain. But - it does make it easier with your diet because you can't fit anything else in once you've had that much protein 😂 just doesn't give any leeway.

@Polkadotdash how very bloody disappointing.
