I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

Week 2 Day 4. Some constipation this morning. And am streaming with a cold but I'm not blaming the MJ for that.
Nice suppression - made myself have a bowl of greek yoghurt with chia seeds, strawberries and cinnamon.
Feeling a bit meh about food too....
Have just had an email from my provider asking me to think about ordering my next dose. To move up to 5mg or not is the question...

What are you thinking about your next order strength?

I am a week or so behind you, but am thinking that if my suppression is still good by the time I’m ready to order my next pen then I might just stay on 2.5?

The worry of course is that it stops being affective at 2.5 before the next one is due … but I’m kind of Thinking that I’d rather it start be a bit less effective/wear off a bit, and have my weight loss slow for a few weeks, rather than rush to 5 before I really ‘need’ to and possibly get mega unmanageable suppression and side effects that I’m not currently getting …. It’s a tricky one…

im interested in how others are approaching this.

I think it absolutely depends on how effective the suppression is for the individual, as I’m aware not everyone is getting the same level of suppression as me on the starter dose.

ymemanresu · 27/04/2025 15:05

Hi all, update from me Week 2day 1. SW 12.8.5, GW 10
Lost 5.5 pounds in my first week. An inch off my hips and off each thigh. Really good suppression all week and gone off alcohol which is a massive bonus.

Only bad side effect is not very nice really vivid dreams plus constipation. Problem is, i suffer badly with this anyway, things like prunes and spinach wont work. My usual trick of eating a whole chilli hasn’t moved a thing along with 4 laxido sachets and 3 dulcolax. I’m drinking a lot of water and walking a lot more but nothing 😢

Mounraine · 27/04/2025 15:07

@MsRicoletti My plan if/when the 2.5mg effectiveness wears off is either to use that as time to practice living without it, or, order a 5 pen early and double up on the 2.5mgs.

wlinewbie0425 · 27/04/2025 15:09

Welcome @Thriftygal - I have the same work from home grazing issue, my changing to work from home a few years ago coincides exactly with the start of my weight gain from just slightly overweight into obese.

@MsRicoletti I will def be ordering the 5mg pen next - the price is the exact same as 2.5g and I want to order as soon as I am able as still see people reporting delays with medexpress. I expect to go up to 5 but if I decide to stay on 2.5 I can, just do 30 clicks for the doses and haven’t lost anything. If I went for 2.5 pen then it gets less effective I wouldn’t be able to increase to 5 for the rest of next month.

OP posts:
TheNinthLock · 27/04/2025 15:14

I can't decide on the next pen. I want to stay on 2.5 - my first dose was a 1.25 as I am prone to side effects whichever meds I am on, my second was a 2.5 and apart from horrendous indigestion and nausea for most of yesterday, and now constipation, has been fine.
But what if, in 4 weeks time, the 2.5 is utterly useless. Can I order my next pen early? And waste half of the 2.5? That seems a tad wasteful....
But ordering a 5 and only being able to tolerate 2.5 and the 30 days being up when I'm only half way through the 5mg pen is wasteful too.

And thus, I go round in circles!

Chunkysewist · 27/04/2025 15:18

@MsRicoletti glad it's not just me! I've clearly wasted so much time thinking about food and fighting the urge to eat!
I feel the same, like I was missing the switch off that said you've had enough food for this meal. I would just keep eating. And if there were lots of options I'd want them all through fomo! It's strange watching my daughter, she's very slim, always has been, but even if she LOVES a certain food when she's done she's done. I finally understand!

Chunkysewist · 27/04/2025 15:27

I know people are using the pens after the 30days, just being sure to keep them in the fridge. Alot space doses out when trying to work out maintenance doses. Apparently as long as the liquid is nice and clear not cloudy then it's good to use 🤷 that's not professional advice though 🫣
I'm thinking I will probably move to 5mg for my next pen. I've got 4 doses to do on the 2.5. I might do a week with 45 clicks so an in between step. I think I've worked out correctly that I could do 4 weeks at 3.75mg and a golden 5th dose of 5mg with the 5mg pen 🤔

TheNinthLock · 27/04/2025 15:32

I'm leaning towards ordering the 5 pen and then starting with 2.5 and seeing how I go.

It’s wasteful of the drug that’s true, assuming you stick to the 30 day advised limit, it would mean 5 x 2.5 doses of 30 clicks within 30 days (without having to mess about with extra syringes for the 5th) and discard the rest. But it wastes not a penny of your £££.

I hope to just use a 5mg as it’s intended but paying the exact same price for a second 2.5mg just doesn’t seem logical at all to me. Please don’t take this as me saying not to follow your provider’s advice though, it’s just my personal thoughts on it for myself.

I think I've been approved although there was no big fanfare from the provider. I just checked my account status and the review phase is ticked and it's moved to 'packing' with estimated delivery tomorrow 😲

I was planning on taking it on a Friday but this next Friday I have a big night out planned. Decisions decisions...

PumpKim · 27/04/2025 15:45

Also my SIL who has been on it since Jan recommended I take Apple Cider Vinegar gummies to aid digestion and stave off the eggy burps 🤢
I suffered with sulphur burps occasionally as a young teen and they were just the worst and so embarrassing, so was gutted to hear they can be a side effect of WLI 😬

CosmicCuppa · 27/04/2025 15:52

I’m going to order the 5mg pen and do two doses of the 2.5mg a week as per doctors orders to minimise side effects. So on Sunday inject 2.5mg and another 2.5mg on Wednesday/Thursday. She said she’s seen a lot of success this way taking the 5mg without the more severe side effects as the half life allows this.

That’s interesting, I hadn’t considered that as an option- thank you

Ooh very interesting option, thanks for sharing. I had wondered if this was ok to do, as seems like it would sort the possible issue of fading effect toward the end of the week 🤔

wlinewbie0425 · 27/04/2025 16:07

@CosmicCuppais this an NHS/private doctor or online provider with consultation? I hadn’t heard of this method but a quick google shows it is a thing albeit with varied opinions.

Chunkysewist · 27/04/2025 16:10

@CosmicCuppa thats interesting, especially coming from a doctor too, that's reassuring. Eventually do you then move on to the 5mg as one dose?

Mounraine · 27/04/2025 16:12

I wanted to do a half dose twice a week, in an effort to avoid side effects. But my pharmacist is keen for me to get on a full dose once a week.

Did they give a reason why?

I imagine as it’s the only way it’s been approved for use in the UK. Weekly with steps up in 2.5mg increments each 4 weeks.

Afternoon all! So great to catch up on everyone’s posts and know that we are all in the same boat!! I am now D4 and have had no appetite since a few hours into starting on Thursday. I have started to feel hungry because I haven’t actually eaten much but as others have mentioned the urge to stuff my face has gone quiet! I do need to eat and have been having small meals but eating is like choking down cardboard and I deffo can’t eat as much without feeling very full. I’m post menopausal now but lived with PCOS all my life which probs doesn’t help and I’ve also got a very high stress job and have had high cortisol levels for eons! I am praying that this all kick starts my slow system & gets it working properly again!! Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine! ☀️

Pinkapron · 27/04/2025 16:52

Hi all, I’m on W1D6 today, and thinking about taking my 2nd jab tonight, as I’d prefer it on the weekend, and I ate too many tv snacks last night! Not as many as usual though, so that’s something!
I’m really enjoying reading the journeys of those doing the same thing at the same time as me, finding it comforting and reassuring, so thank you all 💐
As far as the next jab is concerned, I reallly don’t know yet, will see how I get on. I’m keen to lose weight fast, but I think more keen, to minimise my risk of flabby skin and looking odd as I’m late 50s and have less elasticity in my skin than I used to.

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 27/04/2025 16:59

wlinewbie0425 · 26/04/2025 22:08

Haha I was thinking that. There was me nervous about one glass (and I am more often an 8 drinks in 2 hours when faced with a free bar kinda gal too so no judgement here!)

@YippeeAbsentmindedlyplease do report back if the booze causes any new side effects! Hope not.

Afternoon, sorry for delay in replying. Haven't stopped since I got up this morning.

I haven't had any symptoms/side effects from yesterday's brunch. In the interest of full disclosure, I don't get a hangover usually, either. I wondered if I might this time as I hadn't eaten before I started drinking and I didn't eat much all day, but I didn't feel any different waking up today than I did yesterday morning.

@Gigi936 I have added a multivitamin powder to my morning protein shake. @Chunkysewist I also put the psyllium husk in there!

Sunshineandpool · 27/04/2025 17:15

Hello - can I join?

I have signed up to Juniper and had my first jab on Friday. So far so good!

I gained weight due to meds I take for my mental health. I have over 10st to lose!! I eat healthily during the day but after I take my medication at night my brain starts demanding carbs!

So far I have found that I am not hungry at all in the day. I am making sure to eat protein and vegetables. So far I have had 2 nights. The first I ate nothing and the second I ate a bit of chocolate - so interesting to see how things continue.

Good luck to everyone!
