GLP-1 journey.

I’ve begun this journey on Feb 20.. approx five weeks ago.
My GP described this as I was three stone overweight, with high BP, high cholesterol and a very strong bilateral inherited cardiac disease.
I weight train and walk and am on HRT. Despite calorie deficit, intermittent fasting, my weight has never budged bar an odd two pound fluctuation so he decided that this was the best possible option for me as my parents both died suddenly in their early sixties of two distinct and separate types of inherited cardiac disease.
ive lost exactly
11 pounds in the five weeks. I am at a a standstill though and I seem to have no I’ll effects from eating anything. In fact my gastro system has completely settled down bar a little constipation.
can I ask if this is a reasonable outcome … if a plateau is normal and what normally happens on these journeys.
Thank you

Can anyone share their experiences please. I am on saxenda and in Ireland which is a different preferential prescribing choice and rationale. I expect that the outcomes and experiences are broadly similar though?

Try asking for this to be moved to the weight loss thread- you might get a better response

Idontjetwashthefucker · 26/03/2025 11:09

Why is everything a bloody journey these days?!

Anyway, you'll get better responses on the dedicated weight loss boards

have you changed your injection site at all? for some people that kick starts it again for you

also on these meds they do say you have to prepare for not losing any some weeks, nearly 5kg in 5 weeks is great going though

Press report and ask them to move it

KimMumsnet · 26/03/2025 11:36

Hello, OP. We've moved your thread now - another Mumsnetter reported it for you.

SilenceInside · 26/03/2025 11:41

Not many people in the UK are on Saxenda, so you might not get many people with direct experience. I am taking Mounjaro, as a lot of people here are.

If you have lost 11 pounds in 5 weeks, how long have you been on a weight loss plateau for? It's a good thing that your digestion has settled down, not a sign of an issue, surely?

What dosage are you on at the moment, are you on the 3mg full dose?

ItchyLegItis · 26/03/2025 13:39

11 pounds in 5 weeks is brilliant!!

Stop weighing yourself so frequently.

If you weigh every 3 to 4 weeks then you won't stress about your weight not budging for a few days ..

Good luck! You r doing great! 👍

Mindovermatter45 · 26/03/2025 17:09

I quite liked being on Saxenda. The biggest loses were on the daily injection. At four months I guess I really stopped feeling the immediate results after having an operation unforeseen. (I've since changed to weekly injections at that was the way it went in my part of the UK)

A plateau is entirely possible whatever method is followed.

My journey started Nov 22 and is still ongoing to this day although I have nearly gone into remission with diabetes. Very slow at the mo. I can weigh mid-week see I've lost, get excited but weigh on a Saturday to reverse what I've seen mid-week and it is so disappointing in a way. Just got to keep plodding on

PinkArt · 26/03/2025 20:42

A plateau is usually a few weeks or months long. It's only been 5 weeks, during which you've averaging a relatively high 2 pounds a week loss, so how long are you considering a plateau?

smithyz · 26/03/2025 20:45

Ok ..I thought a plateau was when I wasn’t losing consistently albeit a pound or two per week. Thanks for clarifying .

If you've lost 11lbs in 5weeks that's amazing. When do you think you stopped losing?

Its absolutely normal for there to be bumps and troughs in the week to week scores. It may even sometimes go up or stay the same - but the over a month go down. Lots of people have shared there graphs where over an extended period of time it looks like a downward curve but if you zoom into the weekly view you see those variations.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 27/03/2025 05:11

And it's great it's been prescribed and it's working so well! Hope you continue to be side effect free.
