Welcome to thread 9 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we head towards Easter Egg season, celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new Summer Wardrobes ❤️

I’m on W21 D1 and on my first 7.5mg pen
F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 11st 0.8lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 38.2lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.
Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for side effects, exercise tips, tips for titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I'm a magnesium pusher 🙈 amazing stuff & the soil is deficient due to modern farming practices so we don't get as much in food as we should. When I skip magnesium for a few days my sleep goes to pot & I can almost set a timer for a migraine.

After many years DH finally started taking it consistently & low and behold hasn't been woken by leg cramps since.

I take beef collagen (fish intolerance) & have done for several years now after reading a very small study that found it helped with extremely dry skin - mine improved greatly. No idea about wrinkles or elasticity though as mine is still full of fat!

I’ve had my first mg dose this evening 🤞

Thanks for the recommendations @Mounjaropen . I’ve got magnesium too (I’ve been building up my supplement arsenal!). To be honest my sleep isn’t too bad yet but cosleeping with a toddler is not the best at times!

@PinkArt I’m so pleased you are ok. That must have been terrifying. I can also relate to the fear of not being able to find new clothes. My holiday concern over the years has often been that - so much so I would pack some knickers, a bra, a top (or two) and some trousers in my hand luggage! Especially when I went to Thailand!

I did reformer this morning and it was great! My back is continuing to improve. I think my lack of core strength is definitely an issue and lifting a nearly 3 year old (who is super tall) is contributing to issues.

I’m also thinking of seeing the GP about HRT. Any advice / guidance? I was thinking patches sound handy but a friend went from gel to patches and found all her symptoms came back. Mind you I’ll be going from nothing so they may help loads!

i’d recommend the balance app by Dr Louise Newsome. Lots of info to make an informed choice but you need to tell the Dr what you want rather than them deciding what you are getting 😉. I decided on bio identical so I have micronised progesterone and then Oestrogen gel applied topically and the same with testosterone. Hormones are best taken in the PM especially progesterone which promotes sleep.

Checking in with this week's weight loss - I have barely scraped a pound - but it does make 3 stone in total! Going to treat myself to some new trainers. Well done everyone on keeping going this week.

Woo hoo! 3 stone rosette for you! 🥳🥳🥳

Happy trainer shopping!!

NSV.

I've grown up with a very fashionable mother who was always skinny. She's a bit of a feeder though, so my sibling and I have always had weight issues.
Anyway, I'm visiting her right now. She's a bit bigger than she was in her youth, but still very slim (used to be 8-10, now 10-12 I guess). I just told her I'm going to start stealing her designer clothing. She laughed. Until I tried on the very nice Ralph Lauren skirt that she bought last summer, and it fits me better than her... Hahahaha! Who is laughing now?!

👏👏👏👏

Having had a mother like this I do sympathise. Enjoy the feeling of the shoe being on the other foot 💐

Yay, another 3 stone rosette! Well done!

In a similar vein to being able to buy clothes wherever you go, I managed to buy a strapless bra in Tesco that only bloody fit. 36D - that’s the smallest cup size I’ve worn in probably 12 years. I was 36GG starting this. Slightly conflicted about this NSV because my boobs have deflated so much, but it came in handy yesterday.

Ahem! 36D is still a sizeable pair of norks. 👏👏👏

Had a weird one tonight. Prepped my own like normal and went to insert the needle, and it slightly hurt but also didn’t look like it was going in. I wasn’t sure if it was going to go in, as I was adding pressure but could still see the needle, whereas it usually disappears into the skin. I moved it away and was going to try again, but a little spot of blood appeared and so I could tell it had scratched the surface at least. I got a new needle out and moved to a different place and it went ok, but sure what went wrong the first time. They sent me some different needles this time and I don’t think I like them.

Ooh. I’d report that to your provider. Hope you’re ok?

Last week when I jabbed it hurt and after I had finished there was a spot of blood. Both not usual. I think I hit a vein. I has a different mark on my leg throughout the week - same red raised and itchy reaction but also a slightly yellow bruise bit. For me it is the same needles as always. I wasn’t too worried about it though because I just figured I’d found a little vein.

This definitely sounds like a dodgy needle. I've heard that some of the cheap needles you can buy on Amazon are rubbish, too, so there might be an issue with this brand or batch?

I've been on the patches just over a week. So far, all good. A friend is on the gel and she says it can take a few months to stabilise/kick in, so I am waiting to see. I went patches due to convenience and they haven't come unstuck, which I thought they might, so that's all good. I went with the online Boots doctor to save attempting to get a GP appointment, and it was really straightforward.

Thank you, that’s great to hear.

@Goldleafcat I have been on HRT for about 4 years now. I started on the gel as that’s what I’d seen most people were taking and quickly moved from 50 (2 pumps) to 100 (4 pumps) and saw a lot of my symptoms improve (random things like tinnitus which I hadn’t realised were due to falling oestrogen levels). But I would often find I’d get dressed and had forgotten to do my gel. Or I’d be in bed and not able to face the thought of getting cold and sticky thighs. So I moved to the patches which I find more convenient but I need to set alarms in my phone to change them. They are very sticky and leave a residue. I tend to put them on my bum and I can’t see them there (I’m single!).

@KentishMamaenjoy your mum’s designer clothes!

I’ve had bleeding and bruising with the jabs sometimes but I have always got the needle in.

I got the 3 types of magnesium blend capsules from nutrition feels but haven’t even opened the package yet. I’m hopeless with supplements.

Jab day today and I need to decide whether to move up to 10, stick with 7.5mg or somewhere in between. Looking back and I’ve lost 4.3lbs on the 5 weeks of the last pen. My suppression is good until day 6/7. I’m torn between moving up and maybe having a whoosh and getting to my new lower target faster. Or sticking with a view to coming down the doses in a pen or two.

Well it just shows how much more relaxed we all are now around both food and the jabs! I’m sure all will be well - you’ll just be delayed on your daytime MJ level elevation by a day?

Week24 day 1 here for me - jabbing later but for the first time in forever I am starting the week at the same weight as I ended with.. despite having indulged in both wine and cheese at the weekend (definitely regret the cheese fest, ended up feeling quite ropey in the middle of the night). Fingers crossed for a whoosh this week as I’d love to get to 10 stone (or under) before my holiday at the end of May…🤞🏻

I think if you have reduced and noticeably less suppression I’d move up to 10mg as it may bring you back to a steady consistent weight loss?

Interesting about the gel - I was told to apply to the outside of my arms? I do apply testosterone to alternating inner thighs but it is a tiny amount.

I have forgotten a couple of times! I do sometimes backtrack myself to the original day by jabbing 12 hours early (can you tell, this is not entirely infrequent 🤦‍♀️). I have been taking 5mg for a while so I am not worried about that little extra concentration!

To be at the same weight after the weekend (when you jab on a Monday) is great 🎉 Particularly when it includes some cheese and wine 😊 I was just contemplating that it doesn’t seem to matter what I do food-wise, my weight always seems to go down from the day after I jab for three days, and then goes back up. However, that also has coincided with my two regular gym days, and this week I added a Saturday, and interestingly my weight has crept down for the last two days.

My conclusion is that my ‘maintenance’ plan may need to include the gym 3 times a week, if at all possible!!

I’m taking it as a win…Sadly gyms/ consistent exercise are going to be entirely necessary. I have accepted this fate 😂 Muscle tissue is metabolic so it makes sense that your weight has gone down if you added in a weekend session (well done, I’ve done nothing for 2 days but they are my rest days 😉)

My 3kgs stayed off this morning. My biggest loss on mj ever.
SW 140kg
SW on MJ 104.8kg
CW 90.9kg
loss on mj 13.9kg

So close to 50kg lost. I put my weight into stone this week and I’m the weight I was when I first joined weight watchers at 20 so depressing.

For anyone else stalled, I upped my calories for a week, made sure I was still in deficit but a smaller one(lost .5kg that week). Then last week lowered my cals a little and whoosh.
I’m not sure if changing my cals, or injection site (which I’ve changed back) got things moving again or if it was just hormonal (had a long cycle followed by a short one). Whatever it was I think this is the first time ever I’ve stuck with a method through that long of a rough patch and come out the other side.

MounjNewb · 14/04/2025 12:49

Hello everyone - good to catch up on all the posts and victories, scale and non-scale.

Didn't post last week as was away skiing with the family. I am now firmly in maintenance and have dropped my dose from a peak of 9mg, to 7.5mg for the last two weeks. Took my pen with me on holiday and stupidly left it behind in the apartment fridge - idiot! Lost a couple of doses.

So - are we all going to continue on here as we progressively move into maintenance? I do hope so, as this friendly and supportive group (especially @Mounjaropen) has been such an important part of my MJ journey and I don't think moving from losing to maintaining is going to make things particularly easier.

I am W21 D1 - maintenance week (MW?) 3. Jab day weigh in was 10st 8.75

Aiming to hold myself between 10st 6 and 10st 10 which is BMI 22.3-23. Still have a bit of belly fat to shift, but feel this is in exercise and toning reach and not so much losing more. Really want to build up muscle and so if I can do this whilst holding weight in this range, I am confident I'll be looking and feeling how I want to.

Was really pleased to come back from holiday only 2lbs up having indulged quite a lot whilst away. The best bit is knowing that a couple of days of careful eating will get me back and that the MJ will stop this being too much of an effort.

May try dropping to 7mg next week. Plan on reducing very slowly.

Yay to not putting on the usual holiday stone. 2lbs is a real achievement.

I'm staying here for the long haul including maintenance. Absolutely sharing (or in my case oversharing 😂) has been key to staying accountable to myself. If you happened to read the MoS piece by Dr Jack Mosely that I posted yesterday, one of his key points about keeping weight off long term is to be in a support group - which this absolutely is.

Cantbesure · 14/04/2025 14:58

@Mounjaropen 4-5lbs a month is a steady consistent weight loss for me. I tend not to have big losses. My suppression is high until around day 6. On jab day I am starving. I plumped for 7.5mg and might decide to jab on day 5 or 6 rather than go up to 10. Jab day has ended up being Monday meaning my suppression is less over the weekend. Which is real life really isn’t it. This morning I have stayed .4lbs above target which I’m happy with.

on HRT I’m was on 4 pumps of gel so it was outer arms and inner thighs. It felt like a lot. Particularly in cold days!

ooh @MounjNewbi think you might be our first thread poster moving into maintenance. I’m hoping we keep the chat going as what happens after goal is part of the journey. And this thread is so supportive and motivating.
