Hi everyone, am interested to know if anyone has been referred to oviva by their gp and got through. My consultant is telling me they can’t get the funding through the nhs yet on their website it says, this programme is completely free through the nhs….?…?????

My GP doesn't cover it. We had a long discussion. When I spoke to oviva which was about August it was limited to one postcode region in Yorkshire and had been shared in a FB group and they were inundated with requests

Mandymiles73 · 12/03/2025 19:12

Oh really? Both my gp and my consultant have requested I go on this medication as I am waiting for a hip replacement OP. I have heart problems and they want me to lose weight before my op? We are happy to pay for it but don’t know how to go about it. X

I was referred by GP and Oviva don't cover anywhere really the advertising is really misleading. I pay privately.

Mandymiles73 · 12/03/2025 19:19

Can I contact you privately hun about this, I have some questions if that’s okay.

OP posts:
AquaFurball · 12/03/2025 19:19

GP referral to them and Oviva put me on the waiting list 3 years ago. Then when it became available sent all the information to pay for it. Cheaper to go private.

Mandymiles73 · 12/03/2025 19:21

Did you guys contact oviva directly. And can I ask how much you’re paying?

Here is a thread from last year, it didn’t look promising back then

look on monj.co.uk for safe registered pharmacies and prices.

Mandymiles73 · 12/03/2025 22:47

Did anyone need a prescription or a referral before purchasing?

OP posts:
Snozzlemaid · 12/03/2025 23:16

You complete a consultation form with one of the pharmacies online and if approved by them they issue the prescription and dispense the medication to you.

Yes. Everyone does

Mandymiles73 · 13/03/2025 13:24

Thankyou, can you choose any pharmacy or does it have to be one that can provide semaglutide!

OP posts:
Doggymummar · 13/03/2025 13:26

Use the list that was provided above. They are all safe.monj.co.uk

SilenceInside · 13/03/2025 13:38

@Mandymiles73 can I ask why semaglutide (Wegovy) rather than Mounjaro which is the brand name for tirzepatide? Mounjaro has been shown to produce more weight loss on average than Wegovy.

If you're planning to purchase a weight loss injection privately, you can buy from anywhere registered that approves you for it. The ones listed on the previously mentioned website (monj.co.uk) are all GPhC registered, so any of those would do. They will all supply Wegovy or Mounjaro.

Mandymiles73 · 13/03/2025 13:44

Semaglutide was specified by my consultants and the gp, Ime expecting a call from my consultant today, I just wanna get the okay from her that it’s okay to start it.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 13/03/2025 13:46

@Mandymiles73 I think I would ask the consultant the same question, why semaglutide and not tirzepatide (Mounjaro). Presumably they were thinking of the NHS if they were suggesting a referral to Oviva, as they would only offer Wegovy. Privately, the choice is yours.

Mandymiles73 · 13/03/2025 15:57

Ime finding the website very confusing, can someone help me with which pharmacies I can register with to obtain the injection. Thankyou so much. Xx🌹🌹🌹

It's pretty straightforward, the website monj.co.uk is just a list of online pharmacies with the prices. The name of the online pharmacy is on the left and the price of each dose in the table. You can start a consultation with any of them. The consultation asks questions about your weight and medical conditions and it will also ask you to upload photos of yourself, then it will be assessed by their own medical practitioner as to whether they will prescribe to you.

Mandymiles73 · 13/03/2025 16:13

Okay I will have another look Thankyou very much. Xxxx

SilenceInside · 13/03/2025 16:14

@Mandymiles73do you mean the Monj.co.uk website? This is a direct link to the page that shows the table of pharmacies, showing the prices with discounts applied for new customers for Mounjaro:

https://monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/

You would be looking at the prices in the 2.5mg column, which you can sort so you can see the cheapest to the most expensive. You can click on the name of the pharmacy on the left hand column to go through to their site.

This is a link to a similar table for Wegovy:

https://igovy.co.uk/wegovy-price-comparison-uk/

Which injection do you think you’d want to get?

Mandymiles73 · 13/03/2025 19:23

Wegovy I think as this is the one that has been advised by my consultant. Is it safe to just start, I have not heard from my consultant yet but slightly worried about just doing it without their say so.

OP posts:
Doggymummar · 13/03/2025 19:29

You will have a consultation with the pharmacist you choose to use. What is your consultant being consulted about?

WeAllHaveWings · 13/03/2025 19:34

Mounjaro is the newest and seems to be preferred by most. Less reported side effects and more effective. Have a look at both of them, and perhaps speak to your consultant if necessary before deciding. It might be your consultant has only heard of Wegovy and isn't completely up to date.

If you have a look at a few of the pharmacies websites or google Mounjaro vs Wegovy, there is plenty of information that will show you the differences between the two medications.

SevernWonders · 13/03/2025 20:14

Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are the same type of medicine (GLP1 agonists) so they do the same thing, but Mounjaro is newer and has additional benefits.

You can go to any of the pharmacies on the link provided earlier to get a prescription.

if you specifically want to PM someone (as you have asked earlier) happy for you to PM me if you don't want to ask stuff publicly on the boards.

Have been on MJ since June 24.

Mandymiles73 · 13/03/2025 20:28
