I've signed up figured it was worth seeing what they could do

the previous NHS weight loss programme I tried last year basically gave me a swimming pass for a mobility class every week and told me to eat less and move more. Not hugely helpful but this sounds good!

eeeeeeeee · 27/09/2024 23:44

It looks a bit strange. It may be legit, but that link just screams like an ad for a subscription service as opposed to free NHS-commissioned healthcare.

also I found this, which seems to indicate the NHS isn’t sure what’s going on and that Oviva might be sending unsolicited messages: gps.northcentrallondon.icb.nhs.uk/news/message-for-gp-practices-regarding-communications-from-digital-weight-management-provider-oviva

The reason I was interested is my GP told me there were really long waiting times for tier 3 and I wondered whether this might be quicker and seems to offer the injections also. I think I'll hold off asking for a referral for now, until I have discussed it with them (GPs)

I'd be interested in this because of the possibility of them prescribing the injections. I'm currently self-funding so going private but I have a lot of weight to lose so 'classically' would be eligible for NHS services. Absolutely not going to ever pursue or even consider a surgical route though, which is why I never asked my GP for help before. Let us know what your GP says if you don't mind!

I will do. I have hear the provisional Nice guidance and they are recommending it on the NHS for this over 35 BMI, I am about 39 atm and getting mounjaro privately but it will be a pain if I am just under 35 and don't qualify as have quite a lot to lose.

I might send them an e-consult with the email from Oviva and see what they say.

I have a higher BMI than you @Orangesandlemons77 and I imagine it'll be a while before I'm under 35 so I might be lucky if that does prove to be true. I will keep paying if I have to but I'm not exactly a high earner so it is a lot of money really! It's literally the only thing that's ever worked for me!

Orangesandlemons77 · 29/09/2024 11:35

I was just watching this and it mentions it, in case anyone is interested.

Yes, maybe I am being a bit optimistic, I have enough to afford it till about the end of the year, but it depends how long the waiting list for these services is and if it is an long for the online one, also how long it will take for mounjaro to be authorised as I'm not sure about swapping to Ozempic

Orangesandlemons77 · 29/09/2024 11:51

If you go to their website you can do a preliminary assessment to see if eligible and then they send you an email with a letter for the GP about getting referred, I think I will send this in with the e-consult and see what they say

I'm not that keen on logging foods etc though - I already have some support with Voy which includes some support and it doesn't require that. I prefer a more intuitive eating approach.

We'll see. maybe I will post back if it is any good.

I used this as a refresher to lower my blood glucose. Part of it includes chatting with other members of the group and a weekly check in with an advisor.
Despite trying to start chats, the group was very quiet and I stopped to initiating chat.
The advisor left after 2 weeks and the replacement only checked in fortnightly.
The learning modules were fairly simplistic and I didn’t really learn anything new.
However, as an aid to log meals it was useful as it made me responsible for my eating.

Orangesandlemons77 · 29/09/2024 14:41

I'd more be using if to get the mounjaro to be honest, I can't afford it for the longer term.

Yeah this is the same for me tbh. I'm not interested in using it to log food or diet plans or anything like that and I already have a couple of WhatsApp groups I'm in which are really supportive and useful but I'm willing to submit to this requirement if it's necessary to get the prescription!

The fact is, I'm happy with what I'm eating right now, I'm making much better choices and what I'm doing is working for me. It's literally just access to the medication long term.

NoDishiForRishi · 29/09/2024 14:53

I'd also be interested in this to get the medication. Following with interest.

If you have a look on their website there is a consultation where they see if you are suitable and then they send you an email with a letter about referral for the GP. There are some reviews online (Trustpilot) but they don't seem to mention the injection, they say the rest of the support is generally good though.

I was BMI 42 when I started, my doctor flat out refused to prescribe for me. Sods law says now I have paid for over a year and a half I am too light for them to prescribe. Cest la vie

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/10/2024 09:40

I have sent cross an e-consult with the info about Oviva asking for a referral, I will let you know what they say.

It is not an NHS approved program. The NHS are currently investigating, and will subsequently release a position statement.

They are already providing some Tier 2 NHS weight loss services. I think that they are trying to take advantage of the mess that is Right to Choose. Will be interesting to see updates.

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/10/2024 14:34

I heard from the GP practice that there had been a hold on local tier 3 services and lots of people waiting etc, but that they would send the info on to a GP - GP going to call this afternoon about it.

then spoke to the GP and they are going to refer, said something about funding locally however, and had I completed tier 2 already? I explained that I have some other health problems and then he said he would make the referral.

I'll just wait and see now what happens next. they also have the info about me currently taking mounjaro injections as well.

Our local ICB advised all the Primary care networks in their area because a number of practices received emails from Oviva and were questioning it.

It’s in the link I posted above

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/10/2024 13:05

I just had the following email from them when I enquired, so have contacted my GPs to say no longer wish to have the referral.

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that we unfortunately, no longer use Mounjaro and therefore you would be unable to continue this with us.

In regards to submitting and logging your foods on the app, you do have this option but it is not compulsory.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
The Oviva Team

I've just seen this advertised and thought it was too good to be true.

I'm very high bmi and want to avoid an operation. Although I'm also looking at adhd meds if I'm eligible.
