Can I ask
If anyone can recommend an app for tracking calories and protein.
I keep seeing one where you take a photo of your food and it counts calories
Does anyone know anything about them or recommend one ..are they free ??

Doggymummar · 26/04/2025 12:31

I use Nutracheck I think it's the best one for the UK as it's designed specifically for UK supermarkets. Unlike My fitness isl which is American. I've not tried any others. I think its £30 a year, mines is up for renewal soon.

Springsunflower · 26/04/2025 13:20

Can I ask what you get for £30 a year please, also Dan you sign up and try it out without paying anything at first

Doggymummar · 26/04/2025 14:54

It gives you access to the app. They probably have a week's free trial or something, I've had it for years so I'm not sure. Have a look at their website or try the voucher code sites maybe.

TragicMuse · 26/04/2025 16:23

I think I can gift a free month of Nutracheck - one of my friends gave one to me before I signed up.

It’s mostly ad-free with the subscription.

I really like it, it’s intuitive and I wanted a break from all my previous diet attempts. Something new for this different thing.

TragicMuse · 26/04/2025 16:27

I went to Next to look at the lovely dress I’ve been eyeing up for WEEKS. It is lovely. But the neckline is too high and choking for me. I’m glad I tried it on. And I think M&S have a version I might try…

But the big news is that I tried on a 22 and a 20. The 22 was TOO BIG! I tried 20 in the 5 dresses I tried on and only one was a bit too small in the bust, the rest all fit beautifully. I’ve been a 24-26 for some years now so I really wasn’t sure, but the teenager persuaded me to try! And was 100% right. Amazing!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 26/04/2025 16:42

Well done @TragicMuse that’s great! I’ve just ordered a couple of cheap dresses in a size 20. I don’t think they will fit yet but my 24s are all much too big and it seemed silly to buy a 22 when I’m still losing so won’t be in them for long. I’m hoping this will give me something to aim for!

I had my first gain last week, only 1lb but still disappointing. Totally deserved though, I ate an Easter egg and a couple of hot cross buns last weekend so can’t complain! Am on track for a loss this week so hopefully will be back on track.

Well done to everyone for all of the scale and non-scale successes!

Kay2000 · 26/04/2025 12:21

Same here. If I think of the bigger picture I can’t cope. What’s the saying? The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time?!!!

My first 2st chunk has resulted in me getting some clothes out the loft and I can fit back into a pair of linen trousers size 24 from Yours Clothing 🎉. They’re not even too small when I sit - THEY FIT!!!

Congratulations on being a size 24!!!!👏 👏 👏
I am also that size now after starting at a size 28. I think when I start to get to size 20,I'll genuinely start feeling quite skinny. How exciting! I only plan on getting to size 14-16 because I'm 5ft 8 and look better with some meat on me.

Some NSV this week - getting out of the shower without having half my body rubbing against the door (eewwww), fitting size 24 clothes, buying belts because my size 28 jeans are falling off, collar bones, I can cross my legs, wedding ring isn't tight 😁😁😁😁😁

If this is life at size 24, I CANNOT WAIT for when it starts to get really good.

I use the paid for mynetdiary to log, was around £2 or so for the year. it has AI to capture what I eat but so far I haven't tried it.

Kay2000 · 26/04/2025 19:05

@TragicMuse that’s great, I bet that felt amazing !

@mamabeeboo I’m not a size 24 yet, my bust hasn’t got the message yet that we’re shrinking 🤣. But I’ll take the trousers as a win. I’m not buying any new clothes until Autumn. I have several summer linen dresses that will be increasingly baggy but will have to do, a friend will help me take them in if they get too big to wear. I don’t see the point in buying size 22/24 summer clothes when fingers crossed, I’ll be a 16/18 by Summer 2026. We’re going to Scotland in October and I’m planning a shopping spree beforehand, I wonder what size I’ll be by then?

52soon · 26/04/2025 19:45

Feeling really inspired reading all your stories, I’m on W2D4 of 2.5 and lost 2lb in first week and was really disappointed but I’ve just looked back at when I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic in Jan 24 and I was 18st 10lbs, I started Wk 1 at 17st 12lbs and Wk 2 at 17st 10lbs so a stone since diagnosed so actually pleased with that. Have been prescribed by diabetic nurse and already have 5mg ready in fridge, she didn’t want me on 2.5 for more than 4 weeks. Had no bad side effects yet accept for disturbed sleep and weird dreams (I got married last night, I don’t know who to) I’ve been married for 32 years 😂

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 26/04/2025 19:53

I really recommend you all to get second hand stuff on Vinted.
I actually bought clothes that I never wore, because I lost so much weight.

Kay2000 · 26/04/2025 20:22

@52soon it disturbs my sleep too, that and having freezing cold hands and feet are my main side effects.

TragicMuse · 26/04/2025 20:26

Oh man, the cold hands are BAD! My absolutely wondrous husband is making me a hottie! He’s a keeper!

TragicMuse · 26/04/2025 20:37

I know what I wanted to ask!

Has anyone noticed a difference in the nausea depending on where they inject?

I did stomach for the last few weeks and felt really tired and nauseous. This week I did thigh instead and have had almost no nausea at all.

It’s anecdata and wouldn’t stand up to scientific scrutiny! But I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed any patterns based on injections sites?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 26/04/2025 21:15

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I had three Vinted parcels delivered today, a lovely dolly and dotty dress, a skirt from monsoon and a cheap pretty dress from Nutmeg (Morrisons) all a size 22… the dolly and dotty dress hangs off of me, the skirt literally fell down and the cheap dress fits perfectly 😂 it’s a weird feeling as I felt disappointed that the other two were too big! But it should be a win! I’ll pop them back onto Vinted next week….

@TragicMuse ive only ever jabbed in my stomach but have only experienced nausea twice, I’m too scared to jab anywhere else in case I don’t get the same effect. And yay to the smaller sizes! I really should buy smaller, I just don’t know what size I am anymore and it’s a pain that everything is online, I feel a trip to M&S and Next is on the cards

welcome @52soon I remember the vivid weird dreams at the beginning, some felt so real!

Kay2000 · 26/04/2025 21:35

I’ve always injected my stomach and have never had nausea. And speaking as an ex nurse, it can’t make any difference as it’s subcutaneous.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 26/04/2025 21:38

I have seen all kinds of claims about the site of the injection. Some people have said that the MJ works better if you inject it into the arm. And the nausea thing.....etc etc.
It's all nonsense, of course. It can't possibly make any difference. The medication is absorbed via the fat cells under the skin, wherever you stick the needle.
🤣

Thank you! I'm also a nurse.

I had an excellent dream about Robbie Williams and Harry Styles around Christmas wink 😉

TragicMuse · 26/04/2025 22:07

Thank you nurses! It’s definitely not scientific! I’m glad to have no nausea, for now, anyway.

Lobsterteapot · 27/04/2025 07:18

Ah thanks @Iwouldratherbesinging and @Kay2000 it is a journey and there are bound to be ups and downs (as long as there are no ups on the scales!)

I’m loving all the new sizes ladies. Such a good feeling. Just bought some size 22 jeans (off Vinted natch) with a button fastening and they fit!!

Thirding the recommendation for nutricheck. It’s fab. All the uk brands are on it and you can add recipes you regularly make. Makes it easy to track protein and carbs (I’m type 2 diabetic)

Ive only ever jabbed in my stomach, think it would be too fiddly to do anywhere else. Must make sure there’s no errors getting the magic meds into my system 🙂

StressedEric · 27/04/2025 09:50

I’m 5 and a bit stone down and only in the last few weeks have my size 24s become ridiculously large on me . I had no idea what size I was
I have stuck to M and S Roma jeans which I know fit me well , and bought them off Vinted in sizes 22, 20 and 18.
I did the same in an M and S top
the results are I’m a 20 bottom and 18 top which is quite astounding. I haven’t been below a 20 since the early 2000s
I’m going to buy a few more tops and some linen trousers and begin browsing Vinted for 16s for the summer
then the mammoth task of selling 2 double wardrobes and a chest of drawers full of 24/26 clothes

Doggymummar · 27/04/2025 10:52

I'm selling some 26s on VINTED at the minute. They go pretty quick. I recommend start photographing them now. Uploading about 5 items a day is supposed to be the sweet spot preferably between 6 and 8pm when most people are browsing. I advertised mine whilst I'm still wearing them and if they go wash and post them.

TragicMuse · 27/04/2025 12:38

I will be selling stuff too so thanks for the Vinted tips! I’ve sold a bit and always make sure to include proper descriptions and actual measurements.

Today I am wearing a faded black linen dress which has been put away for years. 2 weeks ago it was a bit small in the bust. Today it fits. I am SO happy! It’s one of my favourites.

And some espadrilles I made a few years ago to match a skirt I made.

Chuffed to bits and feeling summery!

TragicMuse · 27/04/2025 16:51

I’ve been through my old clothes. The teenager is mystified at old sizes of clothes! What is apparently an 18 or 20 looks tiny to them. The 16s I once wore do actually look tiny!

All my life people perceived me as fat, referred to me as fat, called me fat. The teen can’t see how that was even possible. I now know I wasn’t actually particularly fat, but the little bit of validation from my own child is…giving me many feelings!

Also, weirdly, the upper limit of a supposedly healthy BMI for me - notwithstanding BMI is a load of bullshit - is a stone less than my 17 year old weighs. There is nothing to spare on them. They are not fat in any conceivable way - they’re riding the back of an ED FFS! And that’s how I know BMI is bollocks. A grown adult post-menopausal woman is not supposed to weigh less than a slim teenager!
