Hi - quick question for you. I've seen some of you post about selling clothing, and I've just had a big clear out of all my super big items. I think it will help me stay focused on never needing them again. They're all in good condition and someone will appreciate them - in your experience which is the best site for this? I've sold on eBay before, but I've seen mention of Vinted too?

SilenceInside · 24/04/2025 17:04

@eibbed999 I've sold lots on eBay in the past, but with my recent sales of my larger clothes I decided to try Vinted just for a change. I find it much simpler and easier to list things on Vinted, and prefer the way the posting works. I have sold everything that I've listed bar one item and not had any problems with it. I didn't quite realise initially that the buyer chooses the delivery method (from a list of options that the seller can change), so I have dropped things off at Evri collection points, InPost lockers, and Yodel collection points. Luckily for me I have all three fairly close to me, so easy enough to manage.

I am not trying to make money really though, just that the items were too good to go to clothes recycling and anything for them was better than nothing. The cheapest item I sold was a top for £3, but it was a difficult colour (brown) and not particularly in style!

eibbed999 · 24/04/2025 17:08

That's really helpful @SilenceInside - I live in a fairly urban area so should probably have a good selection of drop-off spots too! I might give Vinted a go then. Same with me, I doubt I'm going to make my millions, but the clothes are nice and a lot of the charity shops near us aren't accepting donations. Thanks.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 24/04/2025 18:43

Another one promoting Vinted here! I basically use it to ‘swap’ clothes, I sell stuff then buy stuff. The money you make can sit in your Vinted account or you can withdraw it to your bank account. It gets a bit addictive though! I don’t feel like I’m spending money as I’ve used my ‘credit’ from selling clothes to buy clothes.
Some people will pay full price, others will make offers, sometimes silly ones, so I always price a couple of pounds more than I’m willing to sell for now (apart from stuff that is listed for 3 or 4 pounds.

I’ve found as I’ve lost weight my shape hasn’t changed, I’m exactly the same but smaller, apart from losing my bum, but I’ve never really had one, I’ve always said my lower half is back to front, if my stomach was my arse then I might look a bit more normal 🤣

All my items are on Vinted and eBay. This month I have sold 110 items, 102 of them on eBay. Prices on eBay are approx 30% higher too. The process is easier on Vinted to list things but people want real bargains and ask a lot of questions. I prefer eBay.

Weigh in and jab day.

SW 137KG BMI 53.5
CW 116 KG BMI 45.3
GW 60KG BMI 23.4

1kg down on the week, happy with that. Total loss so far 21kg, 3 stone 4 lbs.

I am realising that so far I havent changed shape, just got smaller. So I am still barrel shaped but a smaller barrel. No waist, hips or bust to speak of. Perhaps they will stage an appearance at some point, who knows.

Is anyone else thinking about the clothes they will wear when they reach goal? I tend to sew my own clothes, started when I could no longer find clothes I liked in large sizes. Now I am starting to wonder what I will be making in a year or so's time. I have always been looking at plus size patterns.

I bookmarked to come back after work!

I also sew, partly because I wanted certain things in my size which weren’t available and partly because I like crafting!

And I’m also thinking about what I might want to wear and what patterns I’ll want to make. Many of my favourites will work at smaller sizes so I’ll probably remake some of them. Or take them in! The Madeit patterns Groove dress (sadly discontinued), Sew Liberated Arthur barrel-leg trousers, Fancy Tiger Fen dress, pocket skirt from Peppermint magazine, more Love Notions Summer Caye trousers are definitely on the menu.

And I really want to make a Hanbok skirt - there’s a woman on insta who has some lovely patterns and I really like her style, so I’ll be paying close attention to her.

I think I’d like to wear things on the knee. And shorts, maybe.

What I will do is book a personal shopping session at John Lewis. I had one last year and it was utterly revelatory! So I’ll definitely do that for a wardrobe refresh and a re-style. It’s free, mine was totally unpressured, and I did buy things because I liked them and how they looked rather than because of any hard sell. I’d really recommend it if you have a John Lewis nearby.

The other thing I do is look at sites like ‘Who what wear’ to see how they style things.

I really want to shop at Zara! Don’t know why that particular shop over other places, but I’d like to go into one knowing I don’t have to restrict myself to shoes and bags.

I’m 60, so I’m not expecting to be a fashion plate, and some styles will not be for me, but I’ve got good legs, a decent bust and underneath the fat I used to have an hourglass figure. That’s what I’ll be working with.

I can’t wait!!

TragicMuse · 24/04/2025 20:01

Oh and Trinny Woodall! I love seeing how she styles clothes - I don’t necessarily like everything but seeing how she thinks about clothes and is fearless about chopping things if they’re not right is inspiring to me!

And my very beautiful and stylish friend recommends the fashion pages of The Times and The Telegraph. So I look at those.

Weigh in number 29
SW 21st 9lb (BMI 44.8)
CW 17st 4lb (BMI 35.7)
GW 11st 9lb (BMI 24.1)
2lb down this week
Losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, +3, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 1, 1, 3, 1, 1, 3, 3, 1, 1, 0, 2
Total loss 61lbs / 4st 5lb

Out of my annoying slump/plateau now hopefully. Really looking forward to slipping into the 16's soon and getting my BMI under 35.

There’s no slump/plateau here!! You had one week where you stayed the same - go easy on yourself, you’re doing brilliantly.

for reference, I weigh the same as I did 5 weeks ago - that’s a slump!

GnomeDePlume · 24/04/2025 20:34

@TragicMuse I love that you are planning!

I have had a look at patterns. On the whole I prefer simple lines. It's all about the fabric for me.

I never wear skirts or dresses so I am looking at tops, jackets and trousers.

Such a good idea about a personal shopping session.

TragicMuse · 24/04/2025 22:48

@GnomeDePlume one of the things about the personal shopping thing is that you can just use it for sewing inspiration - find the shapes and styles you like and then get patterns that will match those. That’s also part of my plan!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 24/04/2025 23:06

I must say that I've fallen in love with Vinted.

I doubt if I've made any money, but I'm sure I'm breaking even, and getting plenty of lovely clothes, as I go down the sizes.

I expect lots of us on this thread are selling clothes to one another on there.
😂

Kay2000 · 24/04/2025 23:18

I saw my physio today for the first time since February and she said she could definitely see I’ve lost 2 stones but she said the same as I saw when I redid my photos - that my boobs look even bigger because everything around them is smaller. Given that I’m a huge, 54G cup - please let them shrink soon 🙏 🤣

We were saying the reason why many people don’t notice is probably because they don’t examine our bodies like we do (or my physio does) and they just see us as “fat”, probably from a size 30 to a 20, even 18…. Until we reach what they determine to be “not fat” they probably aren’t even noticing.

I’m due my annual health review soon, have booked my blood tests for May. I’ll be really interested to see what my prediabetes and cholesterol levels are, if they’ve improved from last year. I’ve had virtually no sugar for 4 months and been eating so much better. And if they haven’t improved, I give up!

TragicMuse · 24/04/2025 23:53

I see exactly what you mean @Kay2000 - we get lumped into the fat box and no one really notices more than that.

Fingers crossed for your levels. I’ve got my T2d fairly under control now, most of my pre and post meal checks are completely within normal non-diabetic range, which I’m very pleased about!

in other news I’ve just done my first golden dose with a micro-syringe. I was nervous but it was fine, didn’t hurt, and was pretty easy to do. so I’ll definitely be doing that again to maximise my money!

I got my syringes from UKMedi. It was only when they arrived and I saw that they’re actually based where I live that I realised I know who they are! I used to work with the founder when we were both in previous jobs! Small world!

eibbed999 · 25/04/2025 07:20

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne - I was on it last night and wondering if any of you guys were the sellers I was looking at! All the weight loss will result in a tsunami of pre-loved plus sized clothing being sold!

eibbed999 · 25/04/2025 07:26

5th weigh in this morning:
SW: 307 lbs
CW: 286 lbs
TW: no clue!

Another nice two pound loss this week, and I can feel my body shape changing already. Hard to describe how liberating it is to be losing this weight without it even being much of an effort - at this stage at least, I've no illusions it won't get harder! I did 5 doses from my 2.5 pen (including one with a syringe), and bought a 5mg pen to start today. At the moment I'm doing well on the 2.5, so I think I'll stick with that and see how I get on - did anybody else stay on 2.5? Does your body just kind of tell you when it's time to move up? I suppose if I find myself lurking on Just Eat again that might be a sign...

TragicMuse · 25/04/2025 07:26

I just had a dream about buying beautiful vintage clothes! So I think there might be some of that too @GnomeDePlume!!

TragicMuse · 25/04/2025 07:34

I jabbed last night so WI this morning.

I seem to have put on 1.25lbs since Wednesday which is annoying! Particularly since I have not gone mad. Maybe I have drunk enough. Or need to have some movicol.

week 9, 5mg

SW 19st 4lbs (Jan 2025, pre-MJ)
SW on MJ 18st 8lbs (1 Mar 2025)
CW 17 7.75lbs
Loss this week not sure
Total loss 28.25lbs

Interim GW (set by Nutracheck!) 15st 8lbs

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 25/04/2025 07:42

@Kay2000 Yes I think I'm just in the "very fat" box when people look at me and that box probably covers everyone over the norm so it doesn't register for most people. But we're doing the groundwork. One day someone will do a double take and we'll realise we've moved down out of that box in people's mind!.

After my grump of having a few weeks with little happening and wondering if it had stopped working (and I know weight loss isn't linear and I do know the theory I was just still grumpy and worried...!) I had a hideous period (they're unpredictabl) and am now 2kg lighter!

The body is strange

Billybingbong · 25/04/2025 08:14

3rd week weigh in for me, and 3lb off. I'm really pleased about that, as my appetite came back with a vengeance after recovering from norovirus, and the food noise has been deafening. Really strange because the supression is still really good, but I've just been craving all the wrong things. I've decided to move up to 5mg for my next pen.

SW 22st 8lb
CW 21st 4lb (298lb, yippee, out of the 300's)
TW no idea

Hope everyone else is doing good

Springsunflower · 25/04/2025 08:28

I don't really know what my start weight was , because I weighed my self last August and got such a shock ,I literally ate what I wanted for the next two months before Starting on mj.
So I'm never really sure exactly how much I've lost either,it's a bit frustrating really,I wish I'd weighed myself before I started mj
As I just used the last weight I had ,but I'm pretty sure it was more than I told them .
Me eating what I like is easily 3000 calories a day ,as I did track just to see how much I was eating

Getting on the scales can really effect my mood ,so I try to avoid it as much as I can .
But recently I've noticed my neck has gone funny, like wrinkled, and I don't like it.
But my feet look good for the first time in forever.
Wish it was the other way round as no one sees my feet

Iwouldratherbesinging · 25/04/2025 09:38

@Springsunflower I’m the same with my neck/chin area. I’ve started doing neck and jawline exercises, have a look on YouTube for facial yoga, there’s loads for your neck area. I moisturise with a mixture of collagen and hyaluronic acid in that area. I have noticed that water intake really affects it as well.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 25/04/2025 09:43

Well done on the losses @Billybingbong and @eibbed999 and commiserations @TragicMuse 😞. I do fluctuate up and down during the week but it always seems to right itself come official weigh day. I had a week off of the Movicol as I thought I was ok, but realised I wasn’t so started it again yesterday.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenI bet 2kg was a lovely surprise!

Kay2000 · 25/04/2025 09:46

@Springsunflower did you not have to prove your weight to your pharmacy provider?

I’ve lost 2lb this week, despite going down to 5mg from 7.5. Happy with that, total loss 31lb.

Same here! I went to Mallorca in February and bought 3 tubs of Hyaluronic & retinol cream and slap it on under my chin (literally slapping away!) when sat at laptop pondering an issue!!

justteanbiscuits · 25/04/2025 10:34

Oh, and a friend is insistent that I should be taking collagen supplements. I've never really learnt how to do the girly thing, and never wanted to do things like skin care before because what's the point when I was so fat anyway.
