It will defo come down. Drugs always do. As they develop new versions with better efficacy the older ones get cheaper. We see this with Ozempic now, it’s consistently cheaper than Mounjaro cos it’s an older drug.

If we do get a monthly or annual dose or if it’s developed into a pill it will also become cheaper as you’ve not got production/storage costs.

Weigh in today saw 2lb gone bringing me to a total of 2 stones since January which is an average of 2lb a week. I was saying to my husband earlier that it seems sooooooo slow but he pointed out this is more than I have managed to lose in 20 years of diet attempts. I’ve changed providers from Asda to Zava and had to redo my photos. Side by side, I honestly can’t see a difference 😕. I tightened my bra up this week and my ring feels looser but that’s it. Hubby said by the next 2, I’ll definitely be able to tell and by Autumn it could be 6 stones gone and I’ll need a new Autumn wardrobe, something to look forward to. But yes, 2lb a week is what’s recommended but it does seem slow. Hopefully it’ll give my skin chance to shrink with me. I’d be happy to take it long term if necessary and if I could afford to, but I live in hope if I lose 10 stones I’ll have made enough changes to keep the majority of it off.

I’ll be very happy if this medication replaces gastric bypass surgery. I would guess a vegan diet would result in even more deficiencies in essential nutrients long term. I don’t think it’s a long term solution and people often lose weight so quickly they end up overwhelmed by the loose skin, which they’ll only remove privately (and it’s another major surgery).

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 11/04/2025 21:36

I know what you mean. I think 2lb a week is ideal and losing very similar to you... And veer between wanting it all off now... And knowing this is sensible for long term loss/muscle etc.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 11/04/2025 23:11

@Billybingbong, wow, 8lbs off, that’s a great start for you!

@SilenceInside you are so inspiring, I keep meaning to say as well that I see your name popping up on other threads and you are always so helpful to others with your answers to their questions. The ‘why are you NOT taking WLI’ thread was an interesting read! 😆

@Mounj25 good luck on your new journey!

@Lobsterteapot I’m finding that my tastebuds are still changing, at the beginning I completely went off of Diet Pepsi, I used to drink 3 or 4 cans a day, haven’t touched a drop since. But recently I developed a love for baby cucumbers, ate them almost daily for a month, now I can’t stand them!

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, I average 2lbs a week and I think that’s great, 4lb a week would be wonderful but I don’t think that’s sustainable, I’ve had a couple of 3.5 lbs off and have no idea why as my weeks are fairly similar, if I have a 1lb loss it’s usually due to constipation ☹️ but yes, 1 to 2lbs a week is what’s recommended.

now I’m 4 stone down I am very aware of loose skin and I haven’t lost weight rapidly, it’s mainly the top of my thighs at the moment, sadly at the age of 57 I very much doubt that my skin will regain any elasticity, that and the fact I have been overweight since childhood so it’s been stretched to its limit for so long. But…. I will take the loose skin any day, I can hide it, I very much doubt that I’ll be grocery shopping in my birthday suit 😂.

@Springsunflower I’m on the NHS bariatric surgery list. I saw the surgeon last week and he was happy to have me on the list to decide later on.
He was also the surgeon referred to up thread who said WLS wouldn’t exist in a few years time the GLP1 medications were so good. His private practice had been decimated.
I said to him that I’m a bit concerned about what would happen when I stopped taking it and he said in a very matter of fact way that I’d have to take it for life. So for me it’s surgery or GLP1.
TBH I’m happy to do a weekly injection (although I was listening to a podcast where a monthly and annual injection is being developed)

That's interesting, yes I saw that comment about his practice up thread .
I have had a chat today with a member of the team ,and we decided to leave me on the list ,just incase I don't manage to loose 5 stone between now and Christmas.
They couldn't tell me what the lowest BMI was that they would do the surgery on .maybe it's case by case ,I don't know ,but I'm nowhere near that ,so I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and see where I am when I get a date .
However I've read of many people ( on Facebook groups for WLS ) who had WLS and are also on mj..I think I would be one of those people

Edited

2 lbs a week is brilliant, mine was all over the show ,many weeks I lost nothing then I'd loose 4 lbs over a weekend,I used to get very downhearted with it and get convinced it wasn't working..
I'm also thinking with injections I can choose when I stop loosing weight,I don't think you can with WLS ...so if I decided to stop at a size 16 ,(so I don't get loose skin) ,I can with injections.
I definitely won't have the money for loose skin op
But I also don't want to be on these injections long term ..I really want to manage maintaining myself with diet and exercise...but a monthly tablet or injection might not be as expensive eventually

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 12/04/2025 07:34

I would love to lose 2lb a week!! Been going since September here and I’ve lost 39lb. Works out as 1.25lbs per week.

Honestly feel a bit similar to the way we all feel on the threads where people only have small amounts to lose. It is coming off, but it’s so slow, and I have SO far to go.

Lobsterteapot · 12/04/2025 09:05

It can be disheartening can’t it. I feel so much better and in a smaller clothes size but I’m still 21 and a half stone!
I was looking around at the other mums at the park in the sunshine yesterday and longing to wear the summer clothes and just have the body freedom that they have.
But I keep reminding myself that it took me years and years to get to 24 stone and I’ve not binge eaten since Jan when I started - That’s the main thing.
Lovely to share this with people who understand.

Kay2000 · 12/04/2025 09:48

@Springsunflower I’m hoping a tablet will eventually be developed and available. I can’t afford to be on injections long term. I’m sure it will be available on the NHS eventually for some people with a high starting weight (ie us on this thread) It should be available now for anyone with a BMI of 40+.

@PotatoBreadForTheWin Mine isn’t consistent loss either. But I gained weight the same. A year could go by of me overeating/binging and I’d only gain 3lb. Then over a couple of weeks my weight would shoot up a stone. Really odd. So my husband keeps reminding me when I go a few weeks only losing 1lb. Also double check what you’re eating and how many calories. I always think if we had a famine we’d all lose weight, there are no fat people left behind in a country struggling with famine. Although we’d survive the longest (!), we all would lose weight. I’m still at the stage of “no snacks/eating less” but when my weight loss stops I’ll address calories and hopefully by then I’ll be able to move more and do more exercise.

I know what you mean, we have so much to go to hit 19,18,16,13….. but I’ve lost more weight in 4 months than I did in 20 years of WW or SW where I’d struggle to even lose weight in the first week and give up by week 3 as the task ahead was too overwhelming. And I feel better for it already. So I’m trying not to think in the same ‘all or nothing’ way. If I get overwhelmed I might give up and think it’s too much to do. As @SilenceInside said a few pages back it takes time on MJ and patience, and the weight will slowly come off. It took 25 years for me to get this overweight.

Lds1 · 12/04/2025 10:20

Just taken some photos of doom, I still can't tell where the weight has gone from when I try to compare, I thought it'd be obvious by now.

TragicMuse · 12/04/2025 10:23

I agree with that.

I’ve lost many stones before on SW, but it just wasn’t sustainable. Now, I feel like the choices I make are more likely to stick. Even something as simple as portion size. I don’t need to eat the same portion as my 6’4” husband. He needs a lot more fuel than me! I’m learning that I can be satisfied with a lot less than him. So I cook smaller amounts, have less myself and have leftovers.

I’m also pretty happy with the lack of desire for sugar. Twice this week there have been snacks at work. I ate half a cheese straw thing and ignored the cookie. It drastically affected the rest of the food I ate from a calorie point of view and for once I was hungry. But I was also slightly resentful that a thing which was nice, but quite insubstantial, was also so calorie-expensive! It annoyed me! Not that I’d eaten it, that was entirely my decision, but that it was so unbalanced between what it was and what it ‘cost’.

My weird changing pattern has changed again. It’s been all over the place this week. Now I seem to have lost almost 3lbs overnight! I’m not sure I believe it tbh, but it will be interesting to see what happens up to Wednesday!

Have a great weekend losers!

TheZingyFish · 12/04/2025 10:34

Feeling bunged up and a bit uncomfortable this morning, have only had one very small bowel movement since Monday, did take a single Dulcolax last night but no movement. I know I need to up my fibre intake in general, but what do others suggest to help?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/04/2025 10:40

Ha I came on to post something very similar.

So far I've tried Prunes, chia seeds (have these anyway), magnesium at nightb(normally have 1 now have 2) and senna... And a morning coffee.

Just started Movicol. I also found a packet of glycerine suppositories in the bathroom I can't remember buying (unused so must have chamged my mind!)

Possibly tmi but I've now cleared some out.. But I am going to keep taking movicol and do the above.

I'm a hit concerned I'm thisconstipated this week. Pre MJ a senna would sort me out the next morning. It used to be I'd be worried about the diahhrea...!

Hopefully my body will adjust. I guess i am literally eating a lot less so maybe I wotn be daily any more.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/04/2025 10:42

Oh I pretty much came off caffeine after 9am a few weeks ago and used to drink a lot. Google does suggest I might be reacting to that too as caffeine helps you go.

Would love wisdom from those long termers.. Do you have to keep on top of it or does it sort itself out!?

I'm 9 months in and constipation is still the main thing that gets me.

I just take a senna when I need, usually works quite quickly

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/04/2025 10:52

Ah it's worth knowing it might be a long term problem then! Senna normally works for me - so hopefully I'll settle down.

Is it just because we're eating less or soemthing to do with the MJ do you think?

TheZingyFish · 12/04/2025 11:03

That’s interesting what you say about caffeine, I don’t drink coffee, but previously drank far too much Diet Coke, 5-6 cans a day. Have restricted myself to a maximum of 1 per day, so am drinking 2 litres of water or sugar free squash or more a day. I wonder if this is why I’m struggling now.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/04/2025 11:16

I've just asked my new best friend chat gpt for more details and it seems so yes! Caffeine in any form is a stimulant so it can take a while for the body to adjust and it suggests increasing drinking and veg etc all the normal stuff.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/04/2025 11:18

Although it's also a common side effect for MJ isn't it.

I know my diet in general is completely different to 4 months ago so maybe my body is catching up in all sorts of ways.

I'm having a compelte crash this morning and after feeling cross with myself though that actually my body is doing a lot for me these last few months, and increased walking and works been stressful so now I'm off work I guess it's taking the opportunity to stop.

Id planned to spring clean and garden and then go out tomorrow!

I have to take 2 senna every day at teatime
And I drink loads more than I ever have before .
The lack of fluids really effects movement

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/04/2025 11:27

Is it okay to be in them longer term? I might be doing the same!

Springsunflower · 12/04/2025 11:29

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 11/04/2025 20:28

My dr was trying to refer me in January to tier 3/4 but they weren't accepting new people at all! They also are only going to do MJ to people with 3 serious conditions. I have NAFLD and asthma but not 3... They seem to want to give it to diabetics/those who have heart attacks so I am hoping by the time I'd even get to see anyone MJ will have made me ineligible.

I am curious about the long term ness though. Interesting the bariatric guy said it would need to be long term. In my mind that's someone that should know rather than random stuff I read online!

I think I've been on the waiting list ,on tier 3 ,for over 4 years now ,
Starting wait time is now 5/6 years in my area.
I really wish I'd not wasted a year thinking about injections,I wish I'd just got on and done it when I first heard about them
