@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne another in the 7 stone club! Amazing 🤩 you’re all stars! So pleased for you all.

@TheFunkyDuckling you do sound like you’re coming down with something, sorry you’re feeling ropey and hope you feel better soon x

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden 10cms from everything! That’s brilliant and how very even 🤣, I’m all over the place, no evenness with my measurements, I’m very jealous 😊

I sort of fell off the wagon for a couple of weeks, mainly because I went away for a week and forgot to take my pen with me. Then I didn't get straight back on it when I got home. So, trying to get started again.

I have a question which I'm hoping you wonderful people can answer for me. I'm still on 2.5mg but have used up the 4 doses. I've bought some insulin syringes which state they are 0.3ml. Question is, how many ml do I need to extract from a 2.5mg pen for a full dose please?

SilenceInside · 07/04/2025 21:08

@Tainiza full dose from any strength pen is always 0.6ml.

Tainiz · 08/04/2025 08:04

@SilenceInside thank you, that's a great help.

SilenceInside · 08/04/2025 08:34

@Tainiz it might be easier to get some 1ml syringes rather than have to use two of the 0.3ml and inject twice.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 08/04/2025 09:00

I did it! 4 stone off… I’m so happy, I didn’t ever think this could be possible, it’s mind blowing. I’ve hit my first goal, I’ve set my next goal on the ‘happy scale’ app to 13.5 stone (watch out Kate Moss 😆) which I’m predicted to hit towards the end of June, feels a bit surreal.
The last six/seven months seem to have flown by, another six stone feels so daunting but I could potentially lose another 4 stone in the next six months or so, then there’s only two to go in half the time.

That's amazing! I'm still daunted by how far I have to go and if soemthing will go wrong/stop working/I have to come off MJ in that time!

Its a crazy different journey to someone losing a stone or two isn't it.

4 stone and having been on it for a good while must mean it feels achievable though? Have you got any side effects now? What dose are you on? I'm hoping to be at 4 stone in July!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 08/04/2025 10:15

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden thank you 😍. I’m on my 2nd 12.5 mg pen at the moment, the only side effect that has been constant throughout is constipation, doesn’t matter how much water I drink, fibre I eat or supplements I take, it’s always a battle. I manage it now with Movicol, took me 5 and a half months to find a solution! Oh, and the feeling cold still but that’s not really an issue, I think I’ve been very lucky with side effects.

July will be here before you know it! If I can do this anyone can x

You are doing amazingly @Iwouldratherbesinging .

I feel like I have stalled a bit with weightloss. I need to start exercising. Also thinking of going up to 12.5mg as some diabetes symptoms are creeping back in.

Not sure why that would be as my diet is pretty diabetes friendly.

Has anyone stayed on the same dose for longer? I’ve been on 7.5 for well over 2 months but I really don’t want to move up dose! It’s a little harder but I’m still loosing but not as much anymore xx

SilenceInside · 08/04/2025 11:12

@newlife244I’ve been on 7.5mg for nearly 30 weeks now. It’s still working well for me, every time I contemplate moving up to 10mg I lose a decent chunk and decide it’s not necessary. I’ve got to order my next pen soon, and that is highly likely to be another 7.5mg.

TheFunkyDuckling · 08/04/2025 11:18

Does anyone know why the subscriber pharmacies don't like you on the .5 doses and treat them as step up doses?
Shemed and Voy seem to both like to get you to 10, then up you to 15 if needed...

Seems a bit off to me if the lower dose are working?

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 08/04/2025 12:24

Because that’s the recommended treatment guidelines. The doses are 5mg, 10mg and 15mg, the in between ones are only supposed to be step up ones which you stay in for a month to bridge the gap between treatment doses.

Ive done 2 months on 7.5 due to side effects when moving up but I’ll be on 10mg next time. It’s all been subject to loads of medical research and testing, I don’t understand people who pick their own dosing schedule and count clicks to get different doses. You wouldn’t do that with any other medication!

TheFunkyDuckling · 08/04/2025 12:26

Thank you @PotatoBreadForTheWin very helpful.

I’m just scared if I move up it’s the side effects there terrible for me the first week then I’m completely fine, and I’m nearly at my target weight so I would have to come off it soon so I’m confused what to do, So far I’ve lost nearly 4 stone, but I’ve started eating more and the Dr’s have said go up a dose but I need to order my pen on Monday so need to hurry up and decide. Did you get bad side effects or were you ok? Xxx

SilenceInside · 08/04/2025 13:13

@newlife244 it was ok for me, but it differs so much for each person.

@PotatoBreadForTheWin my supplier has always offered me the dose below (if applicable), the current dose and the next one up each time I order. As far as I can see I am ordering one of those doses and using it as prescribed. No comment has ever been made about being required to move to 10mg. If I’m losing weight and having no side effects, why would any pharmacist or doctor insist that I increase my dose?

Tainiz · 08/04/2025 13:38

@SilenceInside yes, that does make sense. I'll make sure to order the bigger ones next time. Thank you

TragicMuse · 08/04/2025 16:11

Such a heady 4lbs off last week. If this week follow the pattern of previous, it’s going to be 1.5lbs this week. Which is great but also slightly ‘oh’. If you know what I mean!

bloody bodies!!

Shemed will let you stay on 5 (and it looks like 7.5 for a few pens but with the goal of moving up to 10) I've been on 5 for 3 pens and likely to stay on it for my 4th at least. They aren't keen people stay on 2.5 for too long. I'm aware of people who have had a second 2.5 pen if side effects have been tricky though.

I get not staying on 2.5 but it seems a bit splitting hairs to not be keen on 7.5 or 12.5 but yes its as PP says its because the guidelines are for 5/10/15

In my mind it would make sense to be losing at a slower pace as you get to goal. And a bit nonsensical to go up just as you're about to likely titrate down!

I've been on 5 for 3 pens and likely to do at least the next pen on 5. I'll stay on 5 while I'm losing around 2lb per week but for me I'd be keen to go up if I start losing a lot less as still got 9 stone to go!

TheZingyFish · 08/04/2025 17:38

I posted last week when I received my first order, and I took the first dose last night. Am nervously waiting to see what is happening, I’ve eaten less yesterday and today, and am drinking lots of water, but don’t understand how I might feel different. At the moment I’m worried I’m going to be ultra-paranoid and second guess everything.

I know the proper effects aren’t due to be felt at this early stage and so any weight loss will be for to eating less as am focussed and there is almost a placebo-type effect at the moment due to taking first dose. What I mean is, how will I be able to tell whether or not this is working? I have so much to lose, that I really want this to work?

SilenceInside · 08/04/2025 18:32

@TheZingyFish Some people do get noticeable effects early on, that aren’t placebo. I certainly did, there was noticeable disinterest in food and a much reduced appetite a few hours after injecting. I had a lot to lose too., starting at 22st the week before my first injection and 21st 12lbs the day I first injected.

I would recommend trying to get on with your usual activities and daily routine, and then see where you’re at on your first weigh in. This medication works for the large majority, even if you happen to have a slow start.

TheFunkyDuckling · 08/04/2025 18:51

@TheZingyFish I felt super on edge waiting for side effects after my first dose (only on Saturday) too.
I have deffo noticed a reduction in food noise. I haven't felt tempted by chocolate or biscuits while at work today.
My appetite hasn't been affected though yet, and I have been rather hungry this afternoon. I'd already allocated my calories into a bit of a large calorie filled meal tonight.
I'm also a bit like you in terms of feeling like some of this must be in my head!! A placebo like you say x x x

Motnight · 08/04/2025 20:27

Hello, can I join this thread please? Been on MJ since August. Have lost almost 5 stone and probably have 5 more to lose. Am already on a long running thread on Mumsnet which is brilliant but I think that I am far bigger than anyone else and I would benefit from also being with posters who are in a similar position.

TragicMuse · 08/04/2025 22:02

Hi @TheZingyFish the thing I noticed was that I wasn’t interested in the sweet stuff. I think some of it was probably new-diet bounce but what I noticed was that even if I was a bit hungry I didn’t really care about it. I definitely had a smaller appetite and stayed full for longer.

Since I started I’ve kinda stopped the vast majority of snacks. I have some crunchy seaweed or a miso soup. I make things to take for lunch and don’t buy sandwiches, and I’ve not had cakes or biscuits. Apart from when I went out for tea, but that was planned and was a meal! It’s just making it easier to make more considered choices I suppose - I don’t get that uncontrollable urge to plunder the cupboard. And since it costs money I don’t want to waste that or balls it up. The cost is a powerful incentive!

But when I went up to 5mg that was when I noticed the full appetite suppression and it’s unreal! No desire at all to eat! it’s extraordinary, I mean totally unreal and unbelievable!

The other thing is that my blood sugars are SO well controlled! And that’s a great bonus.

Now I wish I hadn’t left it so long!
