I will absolutely guarantee that I am not special, and it is really just the passage of time whilst on Mounjaro that has produced the results.

I realised at the start that it would be a long haul for me, at least 12 months to get to a healthy weight and a bit more to get to my end goal. I manage the panic about the length of time by having lots of short term goals that I can tick off as I go. I noticed today that I am getting annoyed about not breaking through the 90kg barrier, but I had exactly the same annoyance about the 130kg barrier, the 120kg, the 110kg, the 100kg...! I realised that I have done it before, and so I can do it again and it will happen, with the passage of time.

TragicMuse · 02/04/2025 10:44

I love your approach @SilenceInside

I was really resistant to smaller goals to start with but thinking about it I realised that the scale of the mountain is too huge to tackle or even contemplate in one go. So I have set small goals too and although I’m keen to hit them I know they’re mentally achievable, more so than the overall prospect of the many many stones!

May I offer you my personal thanks for being on this thread and showing the possibility.

I echo this! I’ve been feeling overwhelmed this past week by the sheer numbers - I’m trying to get into the ‘19 stone something’ range, focusing on 1lb at a time. However I sat thinking gosh, I need to then do 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11.… and had a complete panic about it. And I’ve been berating myself for letting me get to this weight in the first place. I’m aiming for 11st 7lb and that seems impossible from my current position. But this thread shows it is possible if we stick at it and I’m so grateful we have MJ and this thread. I’m not even 2 stone down yet (nearly!) and my mobility is better already, I can get off the sofa more easily and my clothes are more comfortable.

I only ever peak, briefly, at my goal weight. It's too far off to feel real at the moment. Interim goals have been really helpful though. My first one was to get back into the 17s and the next one is 15st 4 as I think that was my starting weight last time I lost lots.

I’m in exactly the same position as you, currently waiting to fall into the 19s with an end goal of 11st 7. To be honest, I still find it hard to imagine that I’ll ever reach that goal. The lightest I’ve ever been in my life is 15 stone something, I’ll be delighted to get back down to that, anything lower still seems like a distant dream at the moment.

Having said that, I have already lost over 4 stone fairly quickly and easily so who knows? Maybe it is possible. I’ll keep going and see where I end up.

Afternoon all, been to see the bariatric surgeon this afternoon who has “put me on his list” I told him I was successfully losing weight on the Mounjaro and he said “yep complete wonder drug, putting my industry out of work. Bariatric surgery won’t exist in a few years time. My private practice has collapsed. I’m not bothered though, I’m retiring in a few years” 😂😂

TragicMuse · 02/04/2025 16:00

I rather like that approach! Well done Mr Surgeon!

@Kay2000 and @MummyInTheNecropolis I’m exactly the same, it was more so in the earlier days (oct/nov) thinking this is going to be nigh on impossible, the end goal is just too far away, I always fail…
I still have the occasional wobble and tell myself it’s going to stop working and I’m going to go back to ‘normal’ but I have a word with myself and tell ‘me’ not to be so negative, look at where you are now, you thought it was impossible yet here you are, I’m 5lbs away from seeing the 14s, I haven’t seen the 14’s since I first fell pregnant with my eldest daughter and she’s now 37!!!
I imagine that every one of us has these wobbles

I just want to say how much I love this thread and this group of people!

Look at us! Losing pounds and kilos all over the place. Careless losers that we are!

Hurrah for us and how well we’re doing…

Thank you. I’ve recalibrated and am focusing on my next 2 goals - get into 19 range and lose the next half stone.

I went from 11st 7lb to 15++ when I was pregnant. I used pregnancy as an excuse to not diet or worry about my size, so I can’t remember being 12, 13 or 14 st 😆

GnomeDePlume · 03/04/2025 06:50

Weigh in and jab day.

SW 137KG BMI 53.5
CW 118 KG BMI 46.1
GW 60KG BMI 23.4

No loss this week which is disappointing but I am probably full of psyllium husk! Even if I haven't lost this week I know I am on a downward trend.

One of the things I like about Mounjaro is that, however you feel about losing weight, it just keeps doing its thing.

Now that I have lost the first 3 stones I probably do need to start calorie counting and actually dieting rather than just eating a bit less.

I've just picked up another 10mg pen from the pharmacy but I am thinking of talking to the diabetes nurse about going up to 12.5mg.

WafflingDreamer · 03/04/2025 08:25

Weigh in number 26
SW 21st 9lb (BMI 44.8)
CW 17st 7lb (BMI 36.2)
GW 11st 9lb (BMI 24.1)
1lb down this week
Losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, +3, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 1, 1, 3, 1, 1, 3, 3, 1
Total loss 58lbs / 4st 2lb

My food noise has been crazy this week, I've just taken my 3rd 10mg. I ended up throwing out some sausage rolls and other stuff that was brought over for a picnic on mothers day. It's been the first time since the lower doses that it's been a big issue for me, normally I can just ignore that kind of stuff.

Lds1 · 03/04/2025 10:09

Back to my normal weigh day today.

now 98.3kg (15 stone, 6 lb and 11.43 oz)
Loss 44.5kg (7 stone, 0 lb and 1.69 oz)
BMI 35

Progress 54%

Plus points I've hit 7 stone lost and just over half way there. Feeling demotivated that the app has moved the expected end date again to November. It's just getting further and further away.

Springsunflower · 03/04/2025 10:39

Gosh this thread moves so fast
4 pages on since I last was here .wow
I'm just on 12 mg now and 5 stone down .
Absolutely no pleasure in food any more ,it totally doesn't interest me now .
But it took a long while to get here . protein is the bane of my life again
Some days it's a soya milk coffee and that's my only protein.
I am very very tired though,so I've got to make a huge effort protein wise
I started of as a size 32 ,and if I wanted a baggy t-shirt I bought a yours 34 .
Currently buying a 24 now .
My legs don't look like my own any ,more ,my daily swimming is obviously helping.
It's so good to read how everyone else is doing, really greatful to have this thread to pop in and out of xx
.

Hello, complete newbie here, if you don't mind me joining. I'm just waiting for my first pen to to arrive, then will be starting my jabs next week. I'm starting at 22st 8lb, and hoping to lose at least 10st. Gosh, that sounds ambitious!

I'm sure I'll be picking up loads of tips & ideas along the way, but if anyone had any advice for a newbie, please fire away.

My advice now I’m 3 months in would be to pick a previous month’s starters thread and read it from the beginning. I started on New Year’s Eve so read November starters (they are on thread 9 now) and was part of the January 2025 group (now on thread 6) and go back to thread 1 to see what they felt/thought/worried about. I learned so much from them.

Also I found the > 5 stone and >10 stone groups really helpful as the posters here understand the long journey. On the monthly threads there are people starting at weights I dream of. I’m here as a loser rather than a maintainer for another year or more, so while it’s lovely to see people reaching goal in 3 months, I need a group that I can relate to on another level.

But it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my health. And on a vanity point, to put on a lower sized pair of jeans to go out for lunch today, was a real boost.

Well done on taking that first step!

Lds1 · 03/04/2025 16:42

I didn't really join in one of the monthly threads some people were weighing the amount I needed to lose. I found this thread much better for longer term losers!

I took the approach to tackle food first and I'll build exercise in later.

Count calories but also have something nice now and again (not several times a day!).

Drink plenty of water.

Always have rennies to hand!

Be realistic about the amount you'll lose each week, it's not a quick process like some people make out

Iwouldratherbesinging · 03/04/2025 18:38

Hello @Billybingbong ambition is a good thing! My top tip, don’t push the used needle top into the sharps bin upside down, I (for some stupid reason) didn’t think about there being a needle on the underside 😂
One person’s journey will be the complete opposite of yours, you’ll often see the line ‘comparison is the theft of joy’. It really is! This is your journey and it is an exciting one with the occasional bump on the way 😊

Iwouldratherbesinging · 03/04/2025 18:39

Hey @Springsunflower, wow 5 stone! Are you feeling a lot more positive now? You are doing so well!

OP posts:
RonMJ · 03/04/2025 18:43

@Billybingbong and the needles screw on and off the pens, not push and pull. Took me 10 weeks of struggling to discover that one!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 03/04/2025 18:45

@Lds1 wow another 7 stoner, I’m in awe of you too! I don’t put the end goal on the app I use, I do it in 1.5 stone increments and move the goal each time as I think it’ll be too depressing, but we will get there…

Congrats on the 1lb off @WafflingDreamer and I had to throw some ‘good’ food away over the weekend, it felt quite satisfying in a perverse kind of way.

@GnomeDePlume I tried psyillium husk for just over a week, it made my constipation worse! You probably already know but drink loads and loads of water with them, I made the mistake of not drinking loads when I took them (but still drank 2 - 3 litres a day) and I was sooooooo bunged up.

🤣 I did that and assumed I must be the only person to do that, it makes me feel so much better that you did too 🤦‍♀️🤪

SilenceInside · 03/04/2025 18:59

@Kay2000I’m another who made that same mistake too…

Billybingbong · 03/04/2025 19:11

Thanks for the tips everyone, I can't wait to get started. I've been reading this thread for the last few days, and some of the results are amazing. I really hope I can add to them in a few months!

PinkArt · 03/04/2025 19:28

My tips are always the same:
Take photos of doom and measurements at the start. You will hate the first ones, that's a given, but you will appreciate them as you see the improvements each time. At 3 stone down they are starting to be really helpful to see my progress.
Ignore the end goal for now. It makes the journey too epic. Start with an achievable first goal for now - getting into the teens maybe?
And reward yourself whenever you hit a goal, whether it's a weight target or BMI, body fat, percentage lost etc one. I'm buying myself jewellery for every stone lost but others have more restraint!
