@TragicMuse I'd love to be able to make my own clothes! I've just been shopping to get a few smaller t-shirts, mine are all getting way too big.

I started about 8 or 9 years ago - literally bought a machine, learned how to thread it and began! I had NO idea about fitting, suitable fabrics, how to read a pattern, nothing!

With practice I have improved and make lots of different things, though I haven't done much lately because I'm doing a Master's degree at the moment so all my spare time goes to that! (I really should be studying at the moment but am having a short break!). But I love sewing, it's my favourite craft, gives me such pleasure. I can lose myself for hours with my machine and some fabrics...

Lds1 · 22/03/2025 18:09

I actually do have a sewing machine I just never got round to actually using it for anything as I don't really have a space for it. We're in the middle of a house sorting so maybe in that process I can find somewhere for it to go

Week 10, pound off this week which takes me to 2 stone, 2 pounds lighter. Was a bit disappointed but had a stressful week away with work and eaten out 5 times!

Haven’t felt the urge to binge or overeat which is great. Not gone to the loo much either so drinking loads of water and have got some fibre rich fruit & veg in - kiwis with the skin and corn on the cob.

Challenge next week is to up my steps. I’m defo feeling less tired and able so need to be doing more as part of my mission to set up healthy habits when I have to come off the jabs. Planning to do some walks where I would have driven (School run/parcel pick ups)

So much joy on this thread and love reading all your updates. Keep going, we’ve got this x

Lobsterteapot · 22/03/2025 20:13

Ooh also I’ve got my first consultation with the surgeon for bariatric surgery next week. Been waiting almost 2 years for this and now I don’t think I want to have the surgery but I’m worried about what will happen when I get to target and come off Mounjaro

Youre not alone, we’re all worried about that. I’m hoping they’ll develop a maintenance medication. However I really wouldn’t go down the surgical route expecting a permanent weight loss, my friend did and she’s regained all her weight lost (10 stone) and is deficient in practically every nutrient there is. It’s taken 20 years but she’s really not well. Has to have vitamin injections, blood transfusions for iron and has no enjoyment from food whatsoever as she can only eat minuscule portions.

Lobsterteapot · 22/03/2025 22:20

@Kay2000 The longer I’m on Mounjaro the less I’m thinking about having the surgery. I know there can be lots of complications and I’m on a number of bariatric surgery Facebook groups where quite a few patients are resorting to Mounjaro after losing a lot of weight and then putting some back on.

Im sorry to hear about your friend x

HelpMebeok · 23/03/2025 08:07

Well done @Lobsterteapot .

I am 2 pounds down this morning taken me to 19 stone 11. Starting weight was 21 stone 7. I've had two cycles on 2.5 and moving to 5mg today. Hoping I don't get any side effects.
i am happy with 2lbs off a week but I'd love 4 this week to get a 2 stone loss. Starting to feel the difference in some of my clothes.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 23/03/2025 10:33

Wow so good to hear all your wins :)

I initially started MJ in January at the same time as (trying to ) go on the waiting list for surgery. Our area the waiting list is closed though 🙄. My GP thought I needed the surgery.

However since these 2 months of being on MJ and seeing weight loss (albeit not as fast as some people) I now believe it could be possible. And seeing others get to "healthy" and reach interim goals is inspiring. I think if I keep going as I am (and I'm aware it might slow down) I'll be 13 or 14 stone at the end of the year - so hopefully closer to healthy next year. I am aware it could get to a point of plateua but hoping I will go all the way.

I do realise I might need some sort of jabs long term BUT I am aware surgery has long term implications for vitamin absorption and doesn't always affect hunger - it seems to have a great success rate in the first 5 years ish but long term less so and still left with the damage.

That was my musings anyway - I'd be tempted if you've finally got to the top of the list to go to the appointment and discuss it but to see if you can delay it 6 months and see how the MJ goes....

TragicMuse · 23/03/2025 11:37

Well done @Lobsterteapot and @HelpMebeok those are great losses.

I’ve never been offered surgery or anything like it. I was over 19st in January, so prime candidate, but no mention of it by anyone. For the last few years I have refused being weighed by the medical profession unless it’s essential, eg for working out anaesthetic. I normally say ‘no thank you, I don’t do being weighed’ and smile nicely! It’s not been challenged yet! But I am very obviously very overweight. No matter how well I carry it, I can’t be mistaken for a slim person! It would be ridiculous to think otherwise. I wonder what the decision path is for the GP? I’d be fascinated to know.

Today, predictably on not-my-WI-day, I have hit 1 stone off! I am so pleased! It is so weird that that loss shows almost no visual difference. I feel different, and my clothes fit slightly better, but no one who saw me a few weeks ago would notice! But it’s huge - to me anyway!

Onwards and downwards!

Kay2000 · 23/03/2025 12:43

Well done @TragicMuse on your first stone 🎉. I liken it to shedding that thin papery skin from an onion, no one will notice it but when we shed that next layer of onion it should become more obvious. Looking at comments it seems around 3 stone looks and feels slimmer. Although I’m 1.5st down, the only difference I’ve noticed is my boobs getting less as clothing seems a bit looser across there and my bras are comfier.

I had a bad day yesterday. Argued badly with a friend who I hadn’t seen for a couple of years, over this weight thing 🙄. Although she was happy that I’d started to do something about my weight she couldn’t resist telling me how overweight and disgusting she is too. She’s 12 stone, size 14/16, up from 12/14. Yes that’s a bit overweight, I think she’s happy around 10.5 stone. But. 12 stone is my target that feels impossible right now! Anyway I saw red and we ended up shouting at each other, that she’s not overweight like I am (yes she is apparently as it affects her just like me). And yes she struggles around food just like me (she had no answer to me saying in that case why aren’t you 22 stone too). She didn’t want to listen to how being morbidly obese is different from being moderately overweight for the first time ever I just lost it. So that’s another friend gone. I seem to be shedding friends rapidly in my middle age. I’m feeling very disheartened and tearful today. Especially on the back of me only losing 1lb in two weeks. Feeling so alone in this, which I know I’m not as I have all you ladies who do understand but I’m so tempted to reach for the chocolate.

HelpMebeok · 23/03/2025 13:03

@Kay2000

sorry you are having a crap weekend. Keep going. You'll have a bigger loss soon and it will be worth it.
people who haven't been morbidly obese can't understand all these struggles. BUT I remember being size 14/16 and only having a couple of stone to lose but it still felt so hard and I still felt everyone was looking at me/thinking I was fat. I didn't have the health struggles that came with morbid obesity or the worries I would sit in a plane seatbelt or on a fairground ride but I did still struggle. Just about her perspective.

HelpMebeok · 23/03/2025 13:04

That last line was meant to say just another perspective.

Lobsterteapot · 23/03/2025 14:04

Well done @HelpMebeok and @TragicMuse both doing brilliantly!

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden That’s my plan go along to the bariatric appointment and decide as late as I can. I’m still skeptical of myself losing and keeping weight off. About 6 years ago I lost 7 stone and felt amazing (was still about 16 stone) but I put it all back on and more. I’ve got type two diabetes now and a family to support. A weight back on sitch can never happen again.

@Kay2000 Sending love, do you think the situation is resolvable with your friend. It seems a shame to let it go if she’s a good one

Onenotsosmallstep · 23/03/2025 15:27

Hi everyone, hope it’s ok if I join. Have loved reading all your updates and successes.

I’ve started on MJ today, weighed in at 24st 9.5lbs, BMI 52.5.

I’ve been on endless diets over the years and just got fatter. The last 2 years I’ve stopped dieting and found my weight has stayed the same which is interesting. I was 40 last year and can really feel the toil the extra weight is taking on my health now which has been the big motivator to take this step.

PinkArt · 23/03/2025 15:37

Welcome @Onenotsosmallstep - the more the merrier.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 23/03/2025 16:26

Just a quick one. I've just walked 3 miles!!! With stops and lunch in the middle but I am so over the moon I can do this. This isn't directly weight loss related - but more MJ has done some magic either inflammation or getting oxygen better to my achey muscles. My hip doesn't ache either. It honestly for a few years has been a struggle to walk 8 minutes....

I'm waiting for WLS as well .
And also reading about people gaining the weight back and ending up on monjroro .
I'm also vegan and , everyone who I follow who has had WLS just seems to eat meat and dairy for protein.
Such a worry

Lobsterteapot · 23/03/2025 17:42

Welcome @Onenotsosmallstep

That’s amazing @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I defo think Mounjaro helps with inflammation and aches and pains. I used to have to take a camping chair to watch DS play Sunday league now I have no back pain at all and march on the spot to get some extra steps in 😂

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 23/03/2025 17:46

I had no idea it would do this. I had hoped for better walking by the end of the year when no longer obese maybe but it feels a real gift now 😊.

I am now shattered... And have to get some work done when I want to sleep. But so happy it's working. I am trying to do regular 30min walks during the week and longer ones at the weekend now.

TragicMuse · 23/03/2025 17:47

THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

I’m seriously considering getting my running shoes out again!

And my bike.

people keep trying to persuade me to go to the gym. I HATE the gym! It’s boring and repetitive. And expensive. Running and cycling? Love them. And I have the stuff so it’s basically free. Somewhere I have a kettlebell. I might try and find it!!

I remember that too. But she’s not a 18 year old whose boyfriend has just told her she’s fat, she’s a 67 year old woman who’s known me for 25 years.

@Lobsterteapot not really, I don’t see her often, it’ll be fine.

@Onenotsosmallstep welcome, good luck with your weight loss

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Well done! I’m still getting some inflammation relief although not as much as when I first started I don’t think.

Loveanewusername · 23/03/2025 19:03

Week/ jab 11 this time

sw 305lb
cw 281lb
next mini goal 277lb ( two stone )

all going well this week, so far my side effects are none existent.

I feel much better, and easily manage 10k steps five days a week now.

main worry atm is money this month. My husband and I are both taking the jabs and I’m stressing a bit.

hes been a good egg and taken on a bit of overtime - I worry about taking on more than four full days for all sorts of reasons

I think it’s just going to be a tight month , April often is before we add in two jabs 😳

I do think they are worth it- even though I’m sure they’ll drop in price in a few years!

SilenceInside · 23/03/2025 19:23

A couple of NSV this weekend. I went swimming with my children and partner in the local council swimming pool, which I have never done before. I would normally have been far too upset about what I looked like to go to a public pool. My swimwear (long sleeve top and swim leggings) were a bit too loose too. Just about ok but definitely too big. I spent a lot of the time checking that my leggings weren’t falling down! I just felt normal, one of the masses, rather than the biggest person there. It was really good to be there with my kids and be active with them.

The second NSV was trying on the pair of trousers from Toast in a size 18 that I would really like to wear. I’ve had them for ages and have never worn them. They are totally non stretch, but today I could actually do them up for the first time. Still a little too tight to wear comfortably, but last time I tried them on I couldn’t have done the button and zip up at all. Hopefully another couple of weeks and they will be comfortable and wearable.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 23/03/2025 21:51

Wow Silence it's all coming together now isn't it? You've done so amazingly well 😊.

GnomeDePlume · 24/03/2025 06:17

An NSV for me: there is now a gap between my belly and the steering wheel when I drive.

When I hit a 3 stone loss, which should be soon, I am going to start going to the gym. I want to build my strength.
