I think I was surprised to see a number like that when mine is so different. I make sure to eat nearly all of my 1400 calories and I have had great energy levels. I have been much quicker at walking and swimming compared to before MJ, and even did two 7.5mile walks this weekend instead of the usual 1 long walk. I was curious to know how much weight loss was being set to be given 1700 calories. Perhaps it's my age, and I get given less because my metabolism is slower after 40

I'm 50 for starters and likely shorter than most on here.

Good macro calculators often include activity levels and I've never seen anyone on 1200! I also don't think many people realise they could still lose steadily and better by increasing their calorie intake somewhat. They'd have more energy, more nutrients and lose less muscle which is being cannabalised through restrictive diets.

I agree with others making a comment about someone's calories being a lot isn't necessarily helpful. In addition even if the calorie intake had been 2500 for example it was only one day.

PurpleCoo · 13/03/2025 06:30

sweetpickle2 · 13/03/2025 05:34

Agree 1700 isn’t lots of calories- my cutting calories on my TDEE with moderate exercise are 2000 because I’m tall. Everyone is different, and whilst I’m sure you didn’t have sinister intentions I am actually not sure it’s helpful or healthy to come on here making people feel like a perfectly normal amount of calories is “a lot”.

I absolutely did not have sinister intentions and I think people are taking it completely the wrong way. I was intrigued what variables were at play for someone to be given 300 calories a day more than I have been given. I would love to be able to eat 1700 calories a day and see the type of losses the poster has experienced, so I wondered what the differences were for my own curiosity and learning. Asking questions and sharing experiences are how we learn.

The lots of calories comment might perhaps have been better phrased as that's more calories than I am allowed to eat, I wonder why that is... I wish I was allowed to eat that much.

SpiralSister · 13/03/2025 06:45

I was also struck by the ‘a lot of calories!’ comment, @PurpleCoo, but can see that you were really wondering about your own intake now. I’m also struck though, by your language around this - ‘given’, ‘allowed’, as if someone else is in charge. You are in charge! I think this is important, as we are all trying to change our relationship with food, and we’ve got to get to a place where we’ll be confident to make the right choices in a sustainable manner, without beating over selves up for ‘slip ups’ or ‘rule breaking’. Feel free to ignore all this obviously, if it says nothing to you!

For what it’s worth, I do not count calories, at all. Still losing steadily, if slowly. Never gained or stayed the same in 5 weeks so far. Listening to my body and the lovely, lovely MJ!

SpiralSister · 13/03/2025 06:48

Oh, I’m under 200 pounds this morning! Fuck my old boots, it’s been a while since that happened 😂

Has anyone else still not managed to up their exercise? I have been HOPELESS. So busy at work and with the kids, I just can’t seem to carve out that time for myself.
Any tips for prioritising this?

24 hour gym membership. I go once DC is in bed.

mysparkleismissing · 13/03/2025 07:31

PurpleCoo · 12/03/2025 22:07

Ah that makes sense. I was a bit cautious with mine as I put not very active at work and moderately active in leisure. I swim 3x1 hour a week, and walk about 14 hours a week at a brisk pace. Wasn't sure how much exercise is a lot Vs moderate so played it safe and out moderate. I also read it's best not to eat exercise calories as well, although I'm not sure how I feel about this when on holiday... I average about 12 miles a day when traveling

its so tricky to judge isn't it - it's such a personal amount as we are all so different.
I normally sit about 1,200- 1,400 it't very rare I manage ALL the calories I'm 'allowed'

Good morning everyone

WK3 D1

SW 118.8
CW 113.5
GW below 100 kilos

Another week dawns and 3rd jab this morning, 12 pounds down so far
No side effects apart from headaches, I have upped water and they are slightly better

Have ordered second pen of 2.5ml, sticking on low dose for second month as it’s working fine at the moment

Have a good day everyone

Febnewbie · 13/03/2025 07:56

@SpiralSister I am also not counting calories but was beginning to think I was the only one!

Or rather not really - I sometimes for a bit of a check, look back on what I ate in a day to figure out roughly where I am. But I really don't want to go down the road of weighing/measuring absolutely everything I eat because I don't think it would be sustainable and what I want is to develop good habits which I can stick to.

What has your approach been?

I am trying out having basically a few rules of thumb:

No snacks/sweets during the week
Keeping high protein - only having classic carbs (pasta, rice, bread) once a day at most
Generally two meals a day - breakfast/lunch
Aiming for at least 7 fruit and veg portions a day, preferably 10

However, I haven't had as good losses on this and am starting to debate whether I need to calorie count more strictly at least for a few days to test how this is working

Hangryfastjo · 13/03/2025 08:04

I haven't been calorie counting really either. I'm not snacking, or if I do its a handful of nuts. But I've upped my protein this week

After 4 full weeks on MJ I'm 11lbs down, which I'm really chuffed with.

I really need to start some exercise, I'm walking loads more and consciously going out on lunch break etc, but i need to schedule some in as I know how important it is.

Took my 5th dose on Tuesday (been moving it forward 2 days over last 2 jabs, for a weekend away, then will move to wednesday evenings) although it was 3.3mg I've had no side effects and food noise last night! Looking forward to moving up to 5mg, but I'm hoping to have a couple at least, 5mg pens.

Just to add 2st 4lb to lose to first goal of 11st (and that would be amazing!)

Hi, @Febnewbie, this is exactly my thinking:

‘Or rather not really - I sometimes for a bit of a check, look back on what I ate in a day to figure out roughly where I am. But I really don't want to go down the road of weighing/measuring absolutely everything I eat because I don't think it would be sustainable and what I want is to develop good habits which I can stick to’

I decided early on that I didn’t want to replace food noise with diet noise. It’s just what works for me.

I eat a lot of veg, dairy (which I tolerate well and need for my bones, being well stricken in years) good carbs (love spelt), some meat at weekends, minimal wheat, sugar and alcohol. As I am totally addicted to these 3, I’m amazed how easily MJ has weaned me off them.

Echoing others here, I really need to crack the exercise bit - I walk and swim but need to put resistance training in there.

Good luck with your journey!

Febnewbie · 13/03/2025 08:32

I did my first 5mg dose on Tuesday - despite having done a 4 dose the previous week, it has hit me quite hard. I am very tired and headachey

I am drinking ridiculous amounts of water - I think over 4 litres a day! - which does help but am still waking up with dry lips and thirsty.

I have been following Hungry Healthy Happy on Facebook/Instagram and it's been really inspiring

Yes I feel the same way about not wanting to get 'diet noise'

I don't mean to diss calorie counting - it clearly really works for some people and I do see that it could help with getting portion sizes right and habits set sustainably too, I just think for me it would not take me to a good place.

On exercise - I know there's a school of thought that says go for a gentle walk, take the stairs sometimes etc. But for me as someone who is time poor, what I want is to get the most exercise benefits for my time.

So what I do is have a PT come to my house once a week for a really intense strength session. And then I fit in short HIIT sessions during the days I Wfh/at the weekend - like 15-20 mins but I really push myself. I hate it, I really hate exercise and always have but it's over quickly..

Hi, jumping over from the March thread. I remember seeing a website which tracked current best prices but can't remember what it was called! Please can someone remind me? Many thanks 🙂

CallIpswichNow · 13/03/2025 08:52

I’m not counting calories either, just doing a quick assessment here and there.

For now at least, I feel it’s enough that I’m eating much more sensibly in terms of portion size, lack of junk and so on, while still participating in meals with my family. And losing, but not scarily fast.

Today will be my third 2.5 dose and I need to think about ordering the next pen. I bought from Cloud last time. Pretty sure I will go up to 5 now but might shop around a bit to keep the cost in check.

My favourite ankle boots, which have never quite fully zipped up on my right leg but are otherwise perfect, are now zipping up ☺️

Chrestomanciscat · 13/03/2025 09:06

Im at a bit if a low point after taking 5mg so have encouraged myself by buying a pair of lovely culottes off vinted in a size 14 for the summer. I'll be able to measure my progress with trying them on. I loved them when i saw them but were too expensive in the shop 💪 good luck today everyone x

0987654321q · 13/03/2025 09:06

I get up as early as I need to. If I don't prioritise exercise first thing if doesn't happen.

Snap - only moved 0.35lb this week (end of week 3) and despite expecting the plateau it's still a bit demoralising. Going to go measure the belly and hope for results that way!

It's annoying when you want to see a result every week, but keep reminding myself to be patient. Long term goal and change of habits is the main thing.

That being said, I weigh myself every day because I can't help myself, and 1 day after saying I had a plateau, another 1lbs has come off according to this mornings scales. Hopefully the 3 week blip is short lived!

MrsPepperpot79 · 13/03/2025 09:25

Oh wise ones, how much sennokot can I take? Tried one last night with no results at all. Can I try two today? Just a bit nervous of finding out I'm sat on a volcano!

LollyWillow · 13/03/2025 09:27

Morning All,
My week 4 weigh-in, it's 3 days late because I'm just back from holiday. I was also 48 hours late taking my fourth jab at 2.5.
SW 111kgs or 17st 6lbs
CW 106kgs or 16st 12lbs

I was really surprised by this as I honestly felt that I must have put on weight last week, in fact it's a 0.7kg loss since my weigh-in on Monday 3rd which I'm really pleased about.

I was expecting to have gained weight on holiday, not least because I had about 2 glasses of wine every night and occasionally a glass at lunchtime too, and it did feel like I was eating a lot, but ...

What really surprised me were the meal choices I made when faced with a massive international buffet and didn't have to think or cook for myself.
I went on an all-inclusive holiday in Feb 2024 and so have a recent comparison, and would say that I was eating less than half of what I was eating last year.
I didn't really put any restrictions on myself (honestly, there's no point, if I see a rule I try to break it) other than to try to make sure each meal was 50% veg or salad and I found that I was hitting this target fairly easily. I automatically rejected fried food - I had no interest at all. If I had something in a rich creamy sauce, I only had one serving spoon of it. Most surprisingly, and despite Mum having desert AND ice cream every night, I didn't have a single pudding.
Basically, I was eating fairly healthily and stopping when I was full and I felt like a different person.
It's making me rethink much of my menu planning as all I really seem to want to eat is grilled meat and salad. Even for breakfast.

Morning everyone!

Just had my 4th 2.5mg dose yesterday. Have been reading so many comments about how 5mg doesn't seem to have much impact on people. Is there anyone with a success story being on 5mg?

Hi, I take two every night and (tmi) go every other day. I don't think senna is one of the rough constipation treatments. Good luck!

OntheTrainX · 13/03/2025 11:09

Took my first 5 dose on Tuesday night and am really struggling to eat. Massive suppression. I actually feel a little bit nauseous. Not so bad that I can’t work or exercise, but food is very unappealing. I’m supposed to be going to Wales on Saturday for the rugby but I don’t feel like it (very unlike me!)

Thing is, it’s hard to back out of the trip without lying because I haven’t told anyone I’m on the jabs.

Just go but pre warn them say not feeling 100%. You still need to get your calories in even if you dont feel like eating
