Mounjaro dosage

Hi, I'm on my second week of 2.5. I took my second injection on Sunday. Would you recommend staying on this dose next month? My appetite has been practically obliterated but I was sick this morning.

AFineCity · 18/02/2025 10:32

Yes. Why would you increase your dose if you have no appetite (so presumably are eating less and losing weight)? If anything I would think about reducing as you have been sick so are suffering from the side effects.

HellNoWay · 18/02/2025 10:42

If your appetite is gone and you've been sick, then yes! Stay on 2.5mg

I went up to 5mg after 4 weeks because suppression wasn't great and I had pretty much no side effects at all (bar some low blood sugar). Definitely no nausea. I'm now on 7.5mg and finally finding this to give good suppression so I might stay on this dose and not go up for a couple of months.

Good luck!

WeAllHaveWings · 18/02/2025 10:51

I would order the 5mg pen as the cost is generally not that much different and it keeps your option to move up if needed open.

Do your full 4 weeks (5 if using bonus dose) on your first pen. Then if not ready to move up take 2.5mg (30 clicks) from the 5mg pen until you are.

1SillySossij · 18/02/2025 10:51

You are o my one week in, it is too soon to make that decision yet. Many people become accustomed to 2. 5 pretty quickly.

scanni · 18/02/2025 10:52

I have been on 2.5mg for 16 weeks now. The suppression is less than it was initially but I'm happy with the lack of food noise and learning to manage my eating habits well.

mumto2teenagers · 18/02/2025 11:06

I only stayed on 2.5mg for 4 weeks, but I didn't have any side effects and although I was losing weight the suppression was not as good in week 4 compared to the first couple of weeks.

I am now on my 4th pen on 5mg, I have one dose left and think I will stay on 5mg for another month.

I wouldn't rush to go up if you don't need to.

Finallydoingit24 · 18/02/2025 11:34

Yes, you should try to stay on the lowest effective dose for you. There is absolutely no sense in moving up if you have appetite suppression to the extent that you say you do. There are so many stories of people having to give up altogether because they moved up quickly, got horrendous side effects, and now their bodies can’t tolerate the drug at all and doctors tell them to discontinue. Some people don’t respond to low doses and the higher doses are for them.

Thanks everyone 🙏

Good suppression = stay where you are

Side effects = stay where you are

Both = definitely stay where you are!

Nananearly60 · 18/02/2025 13:06

Hi everyone. Started my monjuro journey this morning. So hoping it works. Type2 diabetic , overweight by lots . No issue giving myself the jab… now just waiting for the side effects to kick in 🤣

NormaMajors1992coat · 18/02/2025 13:13

@Nananearly60
You might be better off joining an ongoing thread, there might not be much traffic on here now that the OP's question has been answered.

There are usually threads each month for new starters. Or this is a really nice one if you have more than 5 stone or 30kg to lose. (I found most of the people on my starting month thread had much less to lose than me.)

Not enjoying this at all. Week and a half in and I've lost 7lb. I have no appetite and when I do eat I feel sick, and am sick, shortly afterwards. I'm basically just sipping water. That's completely unsustainable. I don't want to give up but I work full-time. I had leave work yesterday lunchtime because I felt so ill. I've come away on mini break today and been sick twice. Please tell me it gets better 🙏 🙏 😭

Just here for moral support!!
Currently on week 7, 2nd 5mg jab. In the bath with pain all down my back, my kidneys, so thirsty, can't eat. It's vile and I want it out of my body 😭
Very envious of those with no side effects! I'm sorry you're so poorly on it 😔

idrinkandiknowthings · 22/02/2025 15:12

@HomeTutor oh no! That sounds horrendous 😞

I'm currently sat iny car at Jodrell Bank. Had to leave my DD and her dad in there because I feel so ill. Tried nibbling an apple. Tasted delicious going down but it's not helping the nausea.
Could anyone recommend medical remedies? I've just been sipping water and nibbling ginger biscuits. I'm 11lb down and supposed to be taking my third dose tomorrow but this is seriously putting me off.

You could try travel sickness medication like Kwells, or Cyclizine.

You really do need for eat more to stop the sickness feeling. Nibbles of biscuits isn't enough

stressedtothemaxdotcom · 22/02/2025 15:23

Keep at it. I felt so sick the first few days on it. I reduced the size of my meals massively. Swapped a normal dinner plate for a side plate or a small bowl.

Plenty of fluid and dry crackers really helped.
I found small meals worked for the sickness. If you're not hungry have a protein shake.

I did 2.5 for 2 months before going up to make sure I could cope with it.

Nananearly60 · 22/02/2025 18:49

Day 5 after first dose. Vague nausea , appetite suppression… that’s ok… but in the last few hours have developed stomach cramps and upset stomach. Is it worth the bother I’m wondering as feel so rough 😒

Perhaps delay your next dose a few days until you recover. You could then just take a partial dose - maybe half dose or even less. So the full dose on your pen is 60 clicks- you could try 30 - or even less.

It sounds like the drug is too strong for you to tolerate at the moment.

@Winter2020 thanks so much for your reply. How long can I delay and how do I take the partial dose? Is it the clocks when you turn the pen before the 1 appears in the window or is it just counting to 1 or 2 rather than 5 when injecting? I really don't want to give up, my weight is making me miserable x

As you are only on the starter dose of 2.5 I would think that you can delay as long as you like until you are recovered as it will just be like starting again when you resume. If you were on a higher dose then you are supposed to start again on a low dose after a break but you are only on the starting dose anyway.

Turning the pen 60 clicks to the number one releases 0.6ml of medicine which is the full dose of 2.5 (from a 2.5 pen). If you turn the pen less clicks you can take a smaller dose e.g 30 clicks would be a half dose.

You could even turn the pen only 12 clicks for a 0.5 dose and increase by 0.5 (a further 12 clicks each week/every few weeks if you are not having unpleasant side effects).

You would want to ask your provider to keep your pen on 2.5 (the starter dose) for the time being as you won't want to pay more for a higher dose that you aren't able to take.

You are supposed to dispose of your pen 30 days after first use.

I hope it works out for you.
