Hi everyone after some advice please.

Started 3 weeks ago, 4lb off in the first week, 2lb in the second and it looks like none this week. Why have I stopped losing weight?

I have lots of suppression and I'm only eating one meal a day.

I can't exercise apart from walking a bit due to medical treatment so wondering if that's what it is.

MananaMananaPenelope · 14/02/2025 08:31

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning and I appear to have gained 2kg - this will be that 2-3kg that my weight moves by and the weight I gain and lose depending on the time of day, whether I've looked in the baker's window, etc., etc..

No side effects at all apart from constipation this week. I've eaten sub 1000 cals a day all week apart from yesterday when I had a protein yoghurt for breakfast, this for lunch and a relatively normal dinner for me, slice of tandoori chicken breast - no skin, some rice and a ramekin full of black dhal - calorie count for the day 1250.

F G S. I think I am going to have to fast/go down to two meals a day. My office days are 8-6 plus commute so fairly long. I find those sort of high protein lunch things from the supermarket better for me than a sandwich or soup - not sure if I need to re-think that bit but that is literally all I have all day apart from peppermint tea and water, no snacks, no office biscuits, n o t h i n g. 😫

goodgodlemon · 14/02/2025 09:02

Just ended week 3 - just one pound this week. 4 lbs week 1, 2 lbs week 2 so 7 altogether. Bit disappointed with the slow down but I'm hoping it will pick back up again when I move to 5mgs. Just injected week 4 dose with a little prayer! Had my first real sugar craving yesterday afternoon since starting and ate a load of haribos which made for an interesting night back and fore to the loo. Won't be doing that again. I'm trying to stick to fewer than 1000 calories but gets more difficult as the weeks go by and I guess the dose becomes less effective. But still happy to be losing even small amounts.

There's an interesting Zoe podcast episode about how/why semaglutide works.
Basically from memory, when you've been overweight for a while, that weight becomes your 'set point'. You can diet and successfully lose weight, but at some point your body 'rebels' against what it perceives as starvation when your weight is too far from your set point. Your body actually gets more efficient at processing calories when you have fewer so you need more and more of a calorie deficit to continue losing weight. And at the same time, your hunger levels increase more and more (something to do with Ghrelin, can't remember exactly the mechanism). So you crave more calories at exactly the point your body can process them really efficiently which leads to putting weight back on until you get back to your set point.
From what I remember, they said the only 2 things so far that have been able to disrupt this process are bariatric surgery and semaglutide. But they were saying that the expectation was you'd need to be on it for around 2 years to get full benefit from it. I think I've remembered most of that right!

tricky day for me today, W3D6 and the first day I've felt like snacking. I had a banana and some almonds but could very easily have tipped over into raiding some crisps/chocolate! Last 2.5mg jab tomorrow morning, I'll definitely be moving up next week. due to reorder from Voy but blimey, they are expensive! I really like the meal analysis they do though

This was exactly the same point when I got huge cravings too!! Interesting info from the Zoe podcast. It does explain why it's so difficult to lose weight when you get to a certain point.

olivietolivie · 14/02/2025 09:25

I've had some wild weight fluctuations over the last 7 days between 14 st 12 lb and 14 st 6. It has settled today at 14 stone 10. I've never know quite such a big swing in weight in any given week. And I'm not due on my period for another week so can't really put it down to that.

myladyjane · 14/02/2025 09:27

@MananaMananaPenelope that's not great, I feel for you. Are you doing all the drink water/get steps in stuff? Going under 1000 makes me worried you'll not get enough nutrients. I just typed out a paragraph about how I manage on busy office days but it was a bit patronising!

@KenAdams I think this is where you trust the process. Your pattern is common (similar to my own) and bodies take time to adjust. I wouldn't suggest dropping more food or overly fretting about movement if you have health issues. Drink water, move to the level of your ability, eat well and sleep. I am sure it will come.

I took my bonus dose and got about 0.7 out. Was easy. I am not weighing today as my period is still not here but I feel bloated and nasty. Have the day off with dh and we are having a valentines daytime date. He spoilt me with some lovely presents (bubble bath, candles to help my sleep) and bought me tea in bed. I am buying him Wagamamas for lunch (his fave) so that's quite easy for me to navigate.

I have decided to have a project and a treat per pen. Pen 1 was to do it, get used to it. Done. Treat was some new colourful trainers.

Pen 2 will be quality of food and increase movement. Treat will be a nice lipstick I have my eye on. I am finding I am saving quite a bit on food out and about that even with the expense of the pen I have a bit left over.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 14/02/2025 09:33

I weighed this morning and weigh 0.2lb less than this day last week (there have been some ups and downs in between). I'm now officially more than half a stone lighter than when I started on Jan 22, having lost 7.2lb in total. V happy with that.

I finish the first four weeks on Wed, so if I could get to a total of 8lb loss by then, that would be 2lb per week which I'd be very pleased with.

Bellabluea · 14/02/2025 09:37

W6 D2 and I finally got below 100kg! Very exciting for me as I can’t remember the last time I got to double figs.
I had my routine bloods done (I’m on meds that require it) and my cholesterol has gone from 5.7 to 4.2! Also my LFTs and kidney function are perfect which is reassuring.
After suffering awful side effects on 5mg I’ve gone back to 2.5 this week. I can’t live like that. If I’m ok this week I’m going to try 3.75 next week and just go up slowly.
SW 108 kg
CW 99.9
GW 80

MananaMananaPenelope · 14/02/2025 09:40

@myladyjane thank you, I don't think I would take it as patronising 🙏.

My office days look like this - up at 6am, coffee and water, commute. Lots of water, hectic day, often back to back meetings, dash to supermarket for something for lunch, eat at desk, water, repeat morning, leave at 6pm to travel home. Cook something for dinner because I love cooking. Sit down for an hour or two, bed and repeat Mon-Thurs.

Steps wise I get 5000 in on a work day. I haven't got the energy atm to do anything else. Fri-Sun I do more and go on my treadmill if the weather is rubbish.

I could eat cleaner, I know that much. But I find clean eating boring day after day. Maybe I am getting that bit wrong too - clean eating for me is something like a piece of salmon, new potatoes, baby veg. Boring but ok three days a week.

Any tips and advice gratefully received.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 14/02/2025 09:47

@Bellabluea your stats are very similar to mine but I'm a couple of weeks behind you in terms of jabs. I was delighted to get below 100kg too! I'm weighing in lb because it feels like I'm making more progress. Grin

myladyjane · 14/02/2025 10:18

Ok so I have what sounds like a similar job and day. I do wfh 2-3 days a week but they are just as hectic if not more so.

I make snacks! On Sunday I make up some chia jam (bag of frozen fruit - I love a blueberry, this week have fig as my mum has a fig tree and froze some fruit in the summer). Couple of spoonfuls of chia. Shove on hob for 10 mins at a bubble. Stick in a jar and chuck in the fridge. Find chia easier to digest this way and ups the fibre. I have that and a big blob of 0% Greek yoghurt for breakie. On workdays I shove it in a little pot. I do get fage as it's higher protein so that's quite easy works out about 25g of protein (it's about 200g portion). Mix up the fruit to stop it getting dull but I am a fruit bat so I always love it.

Lunch links with me freaking out at the kids. Teens who were eating utter shit on their way home and I was worried about bad habits. So we got a pack of 4 section snack pots so they have something easy but healthy after school. I have one of those with 2 compartments of veg of some kind, one of mini breadsticks/crackers and one of protein.

Then I boil a couple of eggs and take a piece of fruit.

That lot does me for the whole day, I can eat to my hunger, it's easy to grab and have between meetings. Protein is good, it's lower carb (which I find helpful in the day) Cheaper than Pret. A bit boring but I try and mix it up. Prep it the night before when doing dinner, takes me less than 10 mins.

Jins · 14/02/2025 10:22

Week 5 over and a small loss of 0.6lb taking the total to 6.2lbs. Slow and steady is best but I think I’ll run out of money long before I reach goal.

5mg today. Let’s see what that does.

SW 11st 5lbs
CW 10st 12.8
GW 9 st

Thelittlestranger · 14/02/2025 10:54

@jins - are you tracking calories? I know there has been a few discussions on those who want to, and those who don't - but knowing what you are in taking might give you answers to what weight you are losing.

@MananaMananaPenelope similar work schedule here except I tend to get up at 630 and do a gym session before work to get that in. Skip breakfast and yes, have the obligatory salmon or chicken and salad for lunch. Then dinner when I get home.

I'm away with work for the week next week, travelling all day tomorrow, so food will be out of my hands. But what I put in my mouth is firmly in my control I keep telling myself. Have already been away since starting this (skiing) and managed to lose still.

The set point piece is very interesting. I've definitely got one that I've always struggled to push through as it takes a while. I was teetering around and just under it for the past two weeks - but this week have gone past it by by 4lbs, and stayed there for 3 days, so it feels like the barrier is broken. Will take tomorrow's WI as fact, but feeling good about it.

MananaMananaPenelope · 14/02/2025 11:03

@myladyjane and @Thelittlestranger thank you both.

I’m not hungry enough for breakfast most days.

Do you think that calorie counting isn’t enough alone? I’m not sure. I thought that by sticking to 1000 calories most days it would be enough. Maybe I need to give it more time.

kathjee · 14/02/2025 11:13

Iv lost 12lbs in total now over 7 weeks. I weight train so it's definitely a 1lb a week type of loss as I lost 8lbs over the first 10 days.

I was so disheartened the last couple days as I feel really fat, like my tummy has been sticking out. Checked the scales 5 days ago and I had put on a lb I had lost. Which I don't get because I was eating the same, some days I think I eat too less. But aiming for 1200 at least. I don't snack either

Checked my weight this morning and iv lost 2lbs. But my belly still feels and looks rounded. Bet iv lost it off my butt 😭. I haven't been able to go to the gym for the last week as I haven't been well. So I'm scared I'm losing muscle now

Thelittlestranger · 14/02/2025 11:16

It's been a few days since you restarted right? So yes, it needs time...

Don't they say it's 80/20 diet/exercise. Get the first right, it should be enough.

I exercise because it makes me feel better. Mine and body.

I also track - it averages over the week at 1200. What I'm supposed to be on to lose 2lbs a week. Some days it's less (earlier in the week) sometimes it's more (generally a prosecco at the end of the week 😜)

cloudjumper · 14/02/2025 11:23

Is anyone else struggling to drink enough?! My suppression is now so strong that it also impacts my water intake😖I woke up totally parched this morning, but I'm still struggling to drink. Doesn't help that I feel so cold all the time. Not drinking enough makes my constipation worse as well.

@Lovetoridemybicycle Giving you sweets is definitely grounds for divorce, how dare he 😆Maybe force-feed him the sweets and you watch?! 😉

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 14/02/2025 11:41

Morning all. Week 7 day 2 here, took my second jab of 5mg yesterday. I was a bit undecided to stay at 5 due to strong suppression last week, but told myself I'd had no side effects so why not.
Although I am currently feeling rather unwell, but four of my colleagues have been off over the last week and a half with a nasty virus, so I'm assuming they spread the love and the germs.
Forgot to measure myself yesterday, as I always weigh and measure on day 1 of the week, but I did weigh.

STATS TIME
SW - 214.3 lbs
CW (yesterday) - 188.3 lbs
GW - 168 lbs

So that's a total loss in 6 weeks of a shocking 26 lbs!! Which is an average of just over 4lbs a week. I can't believe I'm over half way to my goal, I thought it would take far longer.

Saggyknickers · 14/02/2025 11:48

cherrycherryblossom · 14/02/2025 07:19

W5D1 (first 5mg dose will be taken a bit later this morning) and in week four I lost 4 lbs which I really wasn’t expecting. So that’s 1st 2lbs off in four weeks and well into the next stone category (haven’t been this light probably since a very young teenager).

SW - 13st
CW - 11st 12lbs
Total loss - 16lbs

Edited

Hi it's me SaggyKnickers aka JoanCollinsDiva 😝
You're doing really well cherrycherryblossom
Do you mind me asking how many calories you're having?

You and I started the same day i think and have similar stats. I've lost another 2lbs today taking me to 12lbs loss after 4 weeks, which I'm please with but I do kind of feel like I should be losing more for the amount of calories I'm eating. I'm on 1200 per day which is well below my cutting tdee of 1550 per day - maybe that's the problem?

SW: 13.6
CW: 12.8
GW: 11 stone ish (to be revised when I get there!)

Im still having my collagen powder every day but a bit soon to say whether it's doing anything. I've also ordered some Vit D capsules and fish oil supplements as I've been feeling quite low mood and these are apparently the best things to take. Not sure if the low mood is the MJ or the relentless grey weather! I am very tired as well though and sleeping quite a lot. Again not sure if it's the jab or I'm not getting enough nutrients. Everything I eat since I started this is healthy though - the only junk I've had is my three packets of walkers baked crisps on a mini binge last week! Oh and a few cocktails on a Friday 🤔 I'd rather lose slowly though and still have a couple of drinks of a weekend - eating out is my favourite pastime! I just make healthy choices.
Im jabbing 5mg today as I feel ready to go up, suppression has definitely waned. Dh and I are out for a Greek meal later (my favourite) so I hope I don't feel ill - maybe I'd better wait until I get home!

Well done all the losses everyone! 👏

I drink herbal tea instead - I chug a big glass of water in the morning but I don't enjoy plain water so whilst it's cold I've been drinking mug after mug of herbal tea. I must've cleared half the herbal tea shelf in Waitrose - I'm properly into it after never drinking it in my life! Give it a go. Either that or get some sugar free squash to go in your water. I haven't been constipated at all since ive started and I'm sure the hydration has helped (I also an orange or two every day as they're high in fibre).

Lovetoridemybicycle
I actually thought to myself last night "il be so annoyed if dh buys me chocolates" as he seems to love doing that when I'm trying to lose weight but to my surprise he'd bought me some lovely diptique perfume I'd tried on in selfridges last week. I honestly didn't think he was even paying attention so you could've knocked me down with a feather! So he's in the good books.

I bought him...chocolates! He does like them though and naturally il probably pinch one or two. I don't think a few sweets will do any harm anyway, it would be rude not to!

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 14/02/2025 12:19

@cloudjumper I really struggle drinking plain water, and I weirdly find if I drink a lot of plain water, my mouth ends up dryer than anything I've ever known!
As @Saggyknickers suggested, I have sugar free squash, at room temp as if it's too cold I struggle to drink it as well.

DGonMJ · 14/02/2025 12:21

Well done on all the losses!

I’ve started getting a post-meal slump again. Not reaching for any snacks with it as still feel full. But I notice I feel really sleepy even after salad. Have started having 1-2 cups of green tea as can’t face drinking more than 1 cup of caffeinated coffee (used to drink 3 cups a day). Anyone else?

MananaMananaPenelope · 14/02/2025 12:26

I had a really dry mouth before I paused for a week. Electrolytes have made a difference, haven’t had a dry mouth since having two electrolyte tabs a day.

I also have elderflower cordial in one glass of water a day and tons of herbal tea.

I’m just trying TeaPigs Cleanse which is lovely. I added a single wrapped bag to my subscription this month and will defo add it to my monthly order.

I've stopped drinking coffee completely, used to have around 5 cups a day but now can't stand the taste. As I say I've moved to herbal tea.

I feel sleepy all afternoon and evening, even after having decent sleeps - when I went out with dh last Friday I could barely keep my eyes open! I'm a bit worried about what 5mg is going to do but I do feel it's time to move up as I'm feeling hungrier and thinking about chocolate etc. If the tiredness carries on though I don't think I could do this long term as I don't feel myself. I'm hoping as it gets warmer and brighter the gloom will lift a bit 🤞

MananaMananaPenelope · 14/02/2025 12:37

I have four espressos for breakfast, never touch it after breakfast. No change there for me other than I now have a big glass of water with electrolytes with it.
