HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THEIR GOALS WHETHER THEY WERE SMALL GOALS OR BIG GOALS!

Health and safety information regarding the medication:

Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro® (tirzepatide), outlines several potential side effects associated with its use. Common side effects include:
- Nausea
Diarrhea
Decreased appetite
Vomiting
Constipation
Indigestion (dyspepsia)
Stomach (abdominal) pain
These gastrointestinal symptoms are typically mild to moderate and often diminish over time as the body adjusts to the medication.
However, Mounjaro may also cause serious side effects, such as:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis): Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, with or without vomiting. - I want to personally add that not all pancreatic pain radiates to the back and can present a-typically in that it can just be present on the front or be hard to locate the source of pain.
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): The risk increases when Mounjaro is used in combination with other medications that can cause hypoglycemia, such as sulfonylureas or insulin. Symptoms may include dizziness, sweating, confusion, headache, blurred vision, shakiness, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, irritability, hunger, weakness, and feeling jittery.
- Serious allergic reactions: Discontinue use and seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting; or rapid heartbeat.
- Kidney problems (kidney failure): Dehydration resulting from nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea can worsen kidney issues. It's important to maintain adequate fluid intake to reduce this risk.
- Severe stomach problems: Inform your healthcare provider if you experience severe or persistent stomach issues.
- Changes in vision: Report any vision changes during treatment to your healthcare provider.
- Gallbladder problems: Symptoms may include pain in the upper stomach, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), and clay-colored stools.
Eli Lilly emphasizes the importance of discussing any side effects with your healthcare provider, especially if they are bothersome or persistent. They also advise reporting side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or via the FDA MedWatch website.
For comprehensive information, refer to the Mounjaro prescribing information provided by Eli Lilly.

Please all remember that we aren't medical professionals and so if you do have questions about side effects it is important that you contact your supplier, as well as 111 or your GP as soon as possible.

Another side effect is hair loss, this is normal for anybody new to this discussion. I hope I can put your mind at ease. Our hair goes through 2 phases, the anagen stage, where it is active growth, and the telogen stage where the growth stops. Whenever your body is in a deficit, and is finding it's new equillibrium, your hair is likely to go into a telogen stage, and so an increased amount of hair shedding is to be expected.

Things that can help are making sure that your hair is nourished, and that you're using the right type of hairbrush for your hair so you aren't causing more breakage which then gives the appearance of more significant hair loss, as well as really making sure you're hitting your protein goals for the day.

Protein isn't the only important thing you need to focus on. You need fibre. Natural sources of fibre are going to be best as in vegetables and fruits, but if you have to supplement that's also fine. Fibre intake is important for bowel movement regulation, as Mounjaro does slow down the digestive system.

Lastly, make sure you're getting in enough liquid. It's very easy to dismiss thirst if your appetite is suppressed. It will stave off a lot of the headaches that are common with Mounjaro, keep you feeling your best, and will also help with any constipation you may be having.

Happy thread 24 everybody, and the first thread of 2025 in this series. It's wonderful having you all, and I can't wait to see what this month brings us all.

My stubborn area is my stomach unfortunately. I feel pretty good over the rest of my body now but still have a huge stomach. I guess my 2 kids (1 c-section) have something to do with that.

Broken my stall today. Weighed in at 159.8lbs. I'm now in the 150s!

HappyPie82 · 17/02/2025 16:48

Took my first 2.5mg injection tomorrow. Had to psych myself up and then it was the most painless thing in the world!!!

I'm hoping to loose 20-30kg by the autumn winter as we want to TTC again when our baby is 2 and whilst i way exactly the same as did pre-conception for baby 1 I've actually regained 10kg whilst breastfeeding as i was 84kg 12w PP.
So far I've had 1 eggy burp this morning but haven't felt any particular supression of appetite so I am tracking calories at the moment ( got to get round Aldi tonight without being tempted by easter choc).

i lost 10kg whilst pregnant due to HG and it was the first time i've ever experienced just not wanting to eat because food wasn't appealing so wonder if I'll experience the same on MJ

GlueNoGlue · 17/02/2025 19:05

@Jimmyneutronsforehead mine is my top belly (yes I had two!) my bottom belly has shank so much that the top half just looks weird now! Especially with skinny legs and neck!

Welcome to the MJ world!

You may have read about this but, although some people get some appetite suppression on 2.5mg, a lot of us didn't. The manufacturer says this low dose is often not active but prepares our body so you don't struggle when increasing the dose. Everybody is different and some see effects sooner than others so it's a good idea to calorie track and increase protein in preparation for the eating habits you need to build

Many millions of years ago when I had my babies I lost weight in both pregnancies but gained 3 stone while breastfeeding with each one. I'm using MJ to lose my baby weight which is interesting as the DCs are now grown up and have their own babies!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 17/02/2025 22:31

Evening all.

Went out for a meal and had a mixed grill and some chocolate cake. Feeling a bit podged but worth it.

While we were there a relative passed out save the dates for October so I am now wondering if I can get close to my goal weight by October, that will be roughly 12 months of mounjaro usage so I'm sure I can get close but I think it might take me a bit longer to actually get to my goal weight.

Also talks of my 30th birthday party in May and I don't like the attention being on me but my family love an excuse to come from all over the country to see eachother, so if I've got to have a party I'd like to feel pretty for it.

I've got about 40kg to lose to get to a comfortable goal and if we go by my BMI I have got 55kg to go. In recent weeks I've been averaging 1-2kg, but that is probably because I decided to try just salads and protein and nothing else which wasn't the worst thing but I don't want that to strictly be my every day until then. Its not really establishing a sustainable diet for when I am on maintenance.

DP also had surgery today for his deviated septum and the stress eating has been rife today. Really need to get a grip and get back into the swing of things.

It's my brothers birthday on the 28th but luckily he's only 20 this time. If he was 21 and it was another big bash with all the food I think I'd probably be gaining weight.

I could throttle whoever said you lose weight while breastfeeding.

I'm sure it's true for some, but it got my hopes up and it let me down.

Me too! I just wanted cake and gained.

GlueNoGlue · 21/02/2025 16:49

So I’ve messed up 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was counting clicks because I’m on 15 and struggling with side effects. Except I didn’t check the chart and did 38 clicks instead of 48. I did it this morning and have just realised now. Can I do another 10 now? And if I do, can I inject in a different area to break the dosage down? Or should I not risk that? I felt like my suppression was lower last week (but it was a very hard week so could have been stress!) so I don’t want to have the lower dose if I can avoid it?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/02/2025 17:40

I don’t think makes a diff where jab and yes do extra 10 clicks

QueenOfHiraeth · 21/02/2025 21:41

@GlueNoGlue I saw a TT live a while ago with a Dr Angelina who said, if you have to split a dose, try to inject both as close together as possible to mimic one injection as smaller ones may absorb differently but I haven't seen anything official.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 21/02/2025 23:04

I've had my call from my GP to say they're also going to refer me to oviva for WLI, so I might be able to stop paying privately soon.

Having already read their criteria though I don't think they'll prescribe me mounjaro and might heavily push back and insist on ozempic which did not offer anything in the way of appetite suppression for me, and so if that's all they can offer me, then I'll just be sticking with paying privately.

I've also gained this week, not surprising, also not a bother.

Feeling very bloated today, and expect sulfur burps to make a return.

Fingers crossed for you but, knowing the NHS, I can understand why you aren't getting your hopes up. Good luck though.
Fingers crossed for that and avoiding sulphur burps. I have to say I have never encountered these and hope I never will, my latest joy is regular bouts of hiccups!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 22/02/2025 00:22

They're only offering mounjaro for diabetes, prediabetes and some other select conditions.

I've only got PCOS, and no sleep apnoea or prediabetes and I don't think PCOS is in their qualifying conditions, frustratingly.

I'm going to ask anyway. I'm just not willing to swap from something that is working albeit slowly, for something that didn't work at all the last time I tried it.

My bank account is feeling it though, since DP severed his patellar tendon in 2023 and then also had to take time off because of the pancreatitis, things have gotten pretty tight. If I did decide to retry ozempic it would be £120 extra in my pocket per month, and I'm responding better to MJ the second time around so I keep thinking what if I respond better to ozempic too.

There's a lot to consider.

Only had sulfur burps once before and it was after I read a post about someone else having sulfur burps and I was rather smug about how I'd never had them. Instant karma to me.

Has anyone got any suggestions for protein bars/shakes? I’m trying to increase my protein but struggling to find things I like that have it in. I hate shakes so they’d have to taste amazing and be dairy free :( any suggestions?

My protein did a vimto flavoured protein shake mix a while back. We use it to get my son to increase his protein intake because he's got ARFID. I've not needed to buy any for a while though so I'm not sure if they still have it in stock.

I'll check though one moment

I’m starting my journey this week should be receiving my stuff on Thursday hoping to see some good results as been struggling to lose weight for a while now and nothing seems to work

SilenceInside · 25/02/2025 15:53

@Nikkiwu good luck with starting on Thursday. There are threads in this section for people starting on the injections in February, or there may well be a March one starting soon that you could post on. It's useful to be able to chat to people at the same stage as you are.

This thread is great for general questions as well.

@Jimmyneutronsforehead thank you! Ironically it’s the MJ that’s made me intolerant of dairy 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sorry I just dropped off the face of the earth.

I've just ordered some of this vegan protein smoothie mango flavoured thing, but I've never had it before so I can't say if it's any good.

I also hate protein shakes, I just can't cope with thick flavoured drinks, but also I hate making them with water so this will be a real test. I've only ordered the 500g though because it's £10 and I don't want to waste money if I don't like it.

On a stall this week. Grrrr.

Once again not surprised though.

Took the kids to Manchester for the sealife animal crossing collab and the operation ouch brains bogeys and you exhibition at the science and industry museum, well worth it if you can make it there with your kids. 10/10.

In a bid to get DS to eat though I can't tell you how many times we went to mcdonalds, and he won't eat his own food, he'll only eat if its on someone else's plate or tray and sees them eating it. He didn't eat a single thing all day, despite the copious amounts of eating modelling I did. We came home and I was quite glad to see a bit of lettuce even though it was looking a bit wilted after that experience.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 01/03/2025 00:17

Just wanted to come back and give my review of that protein powder.

Yuck.

It was like mango flavoured yorkshire pudding batter. Very thick.

I even poured half out and added half mango juice to sweeten it and thin it out a bit but it was still disgusting.

Sorry not found a dairy free protein substitute yet.
