HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THEIR GOALS WHETHER THEY WERE SMALL GOALS OR BIG GOALS!

Health and safety information regarding the medication:

Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro® (tirzepatide), outlines several potential side effects associated with its use. Common side effects include:
- Nausea
Diarrhea
Decreased appetite
Vomiting
Constipation
Indigestion (dyspepsia)
Stomach (abdominal) pain
These gastrointestinal symptoms are typically mild to moderate and often diminish over time as the body adjusts to the medication.
However, Mounjaro may also cause serious side effects, such as:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis): Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, with or without vomiting. - I want to personally add that not all pancreatic pain radiates to the back and can present a-typically in that it can just be present on the front or be hard to locate the source of pain.
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): The risk increases when Mounjaro is used in combination with other medications that can cause hypoglycemia, such as sulfonylureas or insulin. Symptoms may include dizziness, sweating, confusion, headache, blurred vision, shakiness, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, irritability, hunger, weakness, and feeling jittery.
- Serious allergic reactions: Discontinue use and seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting; or rapid heartbeat.
- Kidney problems (kidney failure): Dehydration resulting from nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea can worsen kidney issues. It's important to maintain adequate fluid intake to reduce this risk.
- Severe stomach problems: Inform your healthcare provider if you experience severe or persistent stomach issues.
- Changes in vision: Report any vision changes during treatment to your healthcare provider.
- Gallbladder problems: Symptoms may include pain in the upper stomach, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), and clay-colored stools.
Eli Lilly emphasizes the importance of discussing any side effects with your healthcare provider, especially if they are bothersome or persistent. They also advise reporting side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or via the FDA MedWatch website.
For comprehensive information, refer to the Mounjaro prescribing information provided by Eli Lilly.

Please all remember that we aren't medical professionals and so if you do have questions about side effects it is important that you contact your supplier, as well as 111 or your GP as soon as possible.

Another side effect is hair loss, this is normal for anybody new to this discussion. I hope I can put your mind at ease. Our hair goes through 2 phases, the anagen stage, where it is active growth, and the telogen stage where the growth stops. Whenever your body is in a deficit, and is finding it's new equillibrium, your hair is likely to go into a telogen stage, and so an increased amount of hair shedding is to be expected.

Things that can help are making sure that your hair is nourished, and that you're using the right type of hairbrush for your hair so you aren't causing more breakage which then gives the appearance of more significant hair loss, as well as really making sure you're hitting your protein goals for the day.

Protein isn't the only important thing you need to focus on. You need fibre. Natural sources of fibre are going to be best as in vegetables and fruits, but if you have to supplement that's also fine. Fibre intake is important for bowel movement regulation, as Mounjaro does slow down the digestive system.

Lastly, make sure you're getting in enough liquid. It's very easy to dismiss thirst if your appetite is suppressed. It will stave off a lot of the headaches that are common with Mounjaro, keep you feeling your best, and will also help with any constipation you may be having.

Happy thread 24 everybody, and the first thread of 2025 in this series. It's wonderful having you all, and I can't wait to see what this month brings us all.

So I was looking for an email in my sent inbox and came across the photo I had sent to get MJ when I first started in late May….. Lemme tell you weight blindness is so real! Tell me why when I was 5 stone heavier I thought I looked how I actually look today?! I never quite grasped just how out of shape I had gotten. I only see it now.

3wDavid · 05/02/2025 19:08

How do I add a photo??

How do I add a photo??

They have stopped photos for the time being as there was a child SA troll posting images the other night.

There's a new ai model coming in to vet photos soon.

Ahh ok never mind

SilenceInside · 05/02/2025 19:36

@Porlocks if you look at the data from the most recent Surmount-4 trial of Mounjaro, which was split into a 36 week period where everyone was on Mounjaro, then a 52 week period where some continued and some were on a placebo. The average weight lost in the initial 36 weeks was 20.9%, then over the next 52 weeks those on Mounjaro lost another 5.5% of their starting weight. So the weight loss did slow down. But I think that's more to do with finding it harder to create a large calorie deficit at lower weights, and also to do with people reaching a healthy weight and not trying to lose loads more. And of course it's an average, individual results would vary.

If 10mg isn't working well for you, I'd go up to 12.5mg knowing that you'd have 4 weeks on that and 4 weeks on 15mg before you'd have to worry about the 15mg no longer being effective. You may find that you can stay on 12.5 for a while too.

Porlocks · 05/02/2025 17:42

Wow, @OrangeWire, that's incredible. Well done!

I have a question for anyone please. I know I'm over thinking things and worrying a lot at the minute!

I've been on 10mg but I feel like it's stopping working and food noise is coming back / I'm often hungry /my calories are creeping up etc. I want to go up to 12.5mg, but do all the doses stop working eventually? What if I get up to 15 and that stops working and I still need to lose? I keep reading that people want to stay on it to maintain, but how will that work if the effect wears off? Thank you for any thoughts.

I feel the same

on 12.5 so have one more then at top whack

still have 2+ st to go. Have lost 4

Thank you. I've lost 23% already, so it makes sense that it would slow down. Actually though, my weight loss is still fine, just that the struggle is back. Feeling hungry and slipping into unhealthy habits that I wouldn't have done when my suppression was higher.

I think I'll try the 12.5mg as I've still got about 2 stone to go. I'm just so pleased to have lost the weight, I'm terrified of feeling hopeless if or when the MJ stops working, but maintenance is always the hardest part.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 06/02/2025 08:41

I've woken up this morning absolutely starving! I've been sat on the end of my bed for 10 minutes thinking my lord what is this hunger it's been ages since I've felt this. Was hoping to get as much out of 5mg as I possibly could but I think next week is sadly the week I go up to 7.5 again.

I'll try and focus on protein more this week and see if it alleviates it but I'm gutted at the idea of moving up again. Last time I barely saw any weight move on 7.5.

OP posts:
QueenOfHiraeth · 06/02/2025 19:38

@Jimmyneutronsforehead How's your day gone? Did the hunger ease?
I wouldn't worry too much about how 7.5mg was last time as MJ is a very fickle creature. Lots of people have said they've had spells when they've had unexpected changes in suppression or side-effects, etc. This time might be totally different
I didn't like 5mg, felt it was an uphill battle and 7.5 was where I started to feel positive effects so fingers crossed that may happen for you this time

Yes thankfully it did ease. I felt sick with hunger this morning the pangs were so strong and all I had next to me was a glass of squash and it filled me right up. By the time I'd done the school run I had forgotten I had been so hungry.

I've obviously been having small drinks through the day but I've not felt any hunger at all and probably would have forgotten to eat if it wasn't put in front of me.

Didn't stop me eating all my meal though.

Me and my nan took DS to mucky macs after school and he wanted a chicken nugget happy meal and a cheese burger which he never eats so my nan and I did share a single cheeseburger between us and I've just had a chicken thighs 2 boiled eggs and some salad for my tea and I think I'm quite full. I will try and grab something with protein before bed and I've still not been denying myself a cup of tea with milk and sugar.

I think the hunger could have been a bit of a sugar crash because most carbs are just eliminated from my diet.

Weigh day for me! After the shock last week of gaining 2lb (luckily it was a fluke and disappeared the next day!), I’m pleased to lose another 2lb this week. I’m now officially 1 stone away from a healthy weight! It’s week 48 for me so I’m very aware I’m coming up to a year on MJ, I can’t believe how much it has completely changed my life. Funnily enough I have a doctors appointment today. This time a year ago I broke down in the doctors office begging for a prescription for weight loss drug and being told they couldn’t give me it because I wasn’t diabetic. I haven’t seen her since, and don’t suppose she will recognise me, but I’m very excited to show her how much difference a year on MJ can make!

My two week blip of increased weight also resulted in a whoosh of 3lb this week. Isn't it strange how our bodies just do these random things for no apparent reason.

It's funny I said the exact same thing to DP.

He's a doer not a listener so he went on an hours long research rabbit hole about glycogen stores and water retention and how it can look like there's no movement at all because it takes time for the body to find a new equilibrium meanwhile it's all happening it's just we're retaining water to make up for it but eventually it goes.

Really I just wanted him to offer to make me a cup of tea while I rambled but it was still reassuring.

QueenOfHiraeth · 07/02/2025 14:32

I was advised at the start of this journey to measure as well as weigh and, unusually for me, I did as I was told. I have had a while of bumbling around the same weight but in that time have lost 1cm of my bust and 1cm off my waist so something is happening somewhere!

MelainesLaugh · 07/02/2025 15:00

I’m now 4lb off of losing 4 stone since August. Nearly 4 stone in six months, I can not get my head around it. That is just incredible and I’d have never managed it without this drug.

People are now finally noticing, and I’m getting some really positive comments. I also compared a photo of me in May compared to now and I’m actually shocked by the difference. I didn’t think I looked that much different but by god I do!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 08/02/2025 08:45

I've lost another 1kg! Woohooo. Seemed up be clinging to it but woke up this morning feeling like a feather. Thought I'd weigh myself and ta-da!

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 10/02/2025 16:50

I completely missed that there was a new thread. Nice to see all the updates.

I now weigh 161lbs and lost 7lbs in January. Very pleased with this. Office day last week and someone asked me if I was shrinking 😆Hardly anyone has noticed so this gave me a boost. Finally allowed myself to get some new clothes too. I fit in size 12 jeans!

Seriously starting to think about maintenance now. I have a couple of pens but need to think about where to order from in future as I'm currently with MedExpress and I don't trust them to keep prescribing. Considering Cloud or Oushk but the wait for a consultation with Oushk is putting me off.

JoanCollinsDiva · 10/02/2025 16:50

Hi all, well done on your loss Jimmyneutronsforehead 👏

As of Friday just gone I've lost 10lbs altogether in three weeks, did my fourth 2.5mg jab and have a 5mg being delivered this week - eek! I'm a bit scared as a lot of people seem to get side effects moving up to 5mg but fingers crossed it won't be bad. I'm keen to move up because I've definitely been feeling hungrier and having to rely more on willpower this last week or so.

I'm really pleased with my loss so far and apart from feeling very tired haven't suffered any bad side effects.

3wDavid · 10/02/2025 19:43

adding photos is back on, so here you go: 9 months and nearly 6 stone down. But as I said earlier weight blindness is so real! I genuinely thought back then that I looked like I do now. And now, I have days where I feel I look the same as before. Go figure!!
