HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THEIR GOALS WHETHER THEY WERE SMALL GOALS OR BIG GOALS!

Health and safety information regarding the medication:

Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro® (tirzepatide), outlines several potential side effects associated with its use. Common side effects include:
- Nausea
Diarrhea
Decreased appetite
Vomiting
Constipation
Indigestion (dyspepsia)
Stomach (abdominal) pain
These gastrointestinal symptoms are typically mild to moderate and often diminish over time as the body adjusts to the medication.
However, Mounjaro may also cause serious side effects, such as:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis): Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe, persistent abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, with or without vomiting. - I want to personally add that not all pancreatic pain radiates to the back and can present a-typically in that it can just be present on the front or be hard to locate the source of pain.
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): The risk increases when Mounjaro is used in combination with other medications that can cause hypoglycemia, such as sulfonylureas or insulin. Symptoms may include dizziness, sweating, confusion, headache, blurred vision, shakiness, rapid heartbeat, anxiety, irritability, hunger, weakness, and feeling jittery.
- Serious allergic reactions: Discontinue use and seek immediate medical help if you experience symptoms like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting; or rapid heartbeat.
- Kidney problems (kidney failure): Dehydration resulting from nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea can worsen kidney issues. It's important to maintain adequate fluid intake to reduce this risk.
- Severe stomach problems: Inform your healthcare provider if you experience severe or persistent stomach issues.
- Changes in vision: Report any vision changes during treatment to your healthcare provider.
- Gallbladder problems: Symptoms may include pain in the upper stomach, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), and clay-colored stools.
Eli Lilly emphasizes the importance of discussing any side effects with your healthcare provider, especially if they are bothersome or persistent. They also advise reporting side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or via the FDA MedWatch website.
For comprehensive information, refer to the Mounjaro prescribing information provided by Eli Lilly.

Please all remember that we aren't medical professionals and so if you do have questions about side effects it is important that you contact your supplier, as well as 111 or your GP as soon as possible.

Another side effect is hair loss, this is normal for anybody new to this discussion. I hope I can put your mind at ease. Our hair goes through 2 phases, the anagen stage, where it is active growth, and the telogen stage where the growth stops. Whenever your body is in a deficit, and is finding it's new equillibrium, your hair is likely to go into a telogen stage, and so an increased amount of hair shedding is to be expected.

Things that can help are making sure that your hair is nourished, and that you're using the right type of hairbrush for your hair so you aren't causing more breakage which then gives the appearance of more significant hair loss, as well as really making sure you're hitting your protein goals for the day.

Protein isn't the only important thing you need to focus on. You need fibre. Natural sources of fibre are going to be best as in vegetables and fruits, but if you have to supplement that's also fine. Fibre intake is important for bowel movement regulation, as Mounjaro does slow down the digestive system.

Lastly, make sure you're getting in enough liquid. It's very easy to dismiss thirst if your appetite is suppressed. It will stave off a lot of the headaches that are common with Mounjaro, keep you feeling your best, and will also help with any constipation you may be having.

Happy thread 24 everybody, and the first thread of 2025 in this series. It's wonderful having you all, and I can't wait to see what this month brings us all.

Just wanted to share that after 7kg down in just over 2.5 months, today someone finally noticed and asked ‘have you lost some weight?’.

To be fair, I’m not even a dress size down yet though, just everything fitting quite loosely now. I don’t have as much to lose as some of you but it’s still quite slow moving. Just hoping that makes it more likely that it will stay off once I reach my goal weight

GlueNoGlue · 31/01/2025 08:11

Really upset this morning as I’ve gained 2lb! I’ve been on MJ for 10 months now and the only time I’ve gained was 1lb over Christmas! There’s been no changes this week, I’ve eaten my usual meals, kept to my calories and done my exercise. How have I gained 2lb???? I’m so annoyed!

Have you eaten anything particularly salty? 2lbs can easily be water weight.

No, I’m pretty boring with food and eat the same meals every week so haven’t changed anything? The only thing I’ve done differently was had a tescos sandwich on Monday because I was out with work? But surely that can’t have affected everything this much? I was still in my calories for the day and even chose water and grapes as the snack (previously it would have been full fat coke, sweets and crisps!)

Bodies are weird. It could be a combination of water, needing a really big poo, hormones, or just a shock to your metabolism. You've lost it before, I'm positive it will just be a temporary glitch.

You could weigh yourself tomorrow and it might even say you've lost it again.

imnottoofussed · 31/01/2025 13:15

I'm the same. Gained 1.5lb last week and gained 0.5lb this week

Still in a calorie deficit. Still logging everything I eat. Still going on the treadmill the same.

Oh well hopefully next week will be a whoosh!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 31/01/2025 18:39

Well for the first time ever I instinctively turned down a McDonald's.

It's not that I ever feel like I'm missing out but when someone says let's order McDonald's I automatically say ok, but today the words "it's ok I'm going to sort something out for my tea" came out without me having to use a great British business inch of brainpower.

Awww @GlueNoGlue and @imnottoofussed. Same thing happened to me last year. Been the same week as before so yes I was pissed off

But the following week I lost so hopefully you both will

well done for saying no to the yellow M @Jimmyneutronsforehead

Can I ask advice about maintenance providers from anyone, please? My BMI is finally nearing 30 after losing four stone (I can't believe I was 4 stone into the obese category. I don't think I acknowledged how big I was).

I've got my last three pens from IQ Doctor and am happy with them, but do I need to swap now to some sort of maintenance provider? When will they stop prescribing it? I'm a bit vague on maintenance still, and I think in the beginning I was hoping I could just stop and maintain on my own.

NorthernGirlie · 31/01/2025 19:48

My first pen is being delivered tomorrow. We're heading out for a meal for my son's birthday tomorrow night - any advice on when to start?

I'm a full time teacher and a bit worried about side effects - don't fancy explosive diarrhoea when sharing a bathroom with teenagers!

Thank you, that thread is helpful. I just wish some of the providers were a little bit more transparent with what they mean.

What I would like to do is to try and maintain alone, and if my BMI reaches 27 again (which would make me eligible with an obesity related condition), restart. Is the general thinking that restarting at 2.5 wouldn't work as well as it did the first time? Would love to hear some thoughts please.

I decided to restart on 2.5 after a few weeks of being off when I'd reached 7.5, and I've had more suppression on 5mg than I did the first time and lost weight more consistently too.

I have made some other lifestyle changes since. I've been trying to build up my energy and strength at the gym again and I've started using my smart watch which has made me more aware of calories in and out more accurately which might have a knock on effect to my overall psyche about it but generally I've still found suppression to be really good.

@NorthernGirlie i inject on a Friday. I’m always fine on a Friday and then feel sickly and can’t eat on a Saturday and the diarrhoea starts Saturday evening. It means I’ve got the weekend to feel a bit off and then I’m back to normal by Monday. When I’m having a night out, I just delay my jab until the Saturday instead :) good luck!

JoanCollinsDiva · 31/01/2025 22:03

Hi all!

Just checking in. I've just been out for a Greek meal: chicken souvlaki, a tiny bit of rice and a Greek salad....and three glasses of sangria! It was their own special sangria cocktail they do with rose syrup in it and is delicious - feeling a bit bilious now though but hopefully il keep it down!

I've done my third jab today and lost 7.lbs so far which I'm very pleased with. It's important to me to still eat out and have the odd drink - I don't want to live like a monk as I know that's unrealistic for me. I went out last sat too and had a few cocktails and a Caribbean meal and still saw a 3lb loss today so hopefully having a few treats at the weekend is working ok for me.

I'm the same GlueNoGlue -
I jab on a Friday to try and control my weekend eating which is my most difficult time and when I need the strongest suppression - have had a bit of diarrhoea/shivery etc on the Saturday the last couple of weeks then seem to be ok for the Monday.

Thanks for new thread Jimmyneutronsforehead

goodgodlemon · 01/02/2025 09:45

Just an update after my first week. Second jab was yesterday
SW 14 st / 88.9 kg
CW 13 st 10 / 87.4 kg (started in lbs but gonna switch to kg as easier to track!)

Happy with 4lb loss in week one. Felt ok. Bad indigestion on day 4 after drinking fizzy water before bed (no idea why I did that!!). Back to milk and much better. Eating sane as before MJ but far smaller portions and no snacking. My tastes have changed - am reaching for more fruit which is great. Loving the fact I'm not thinking about food all the time. Have been going to gym for weight training since September and that was fine but I was more tired than usual.
I think the biggest surprise for me was just how much my outlook changed. I'm so optimistic now about potential weight loss and realise how unhappy being overweight was making me and impacting my mental health. I have a real spring in my step now which I hadn't expected!! I'm really hoping it keeps on working! Even if weekly loss slows down!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 01/02/2025 09:57

Weighed this morning and no change in weight but this happened last week too when I decided to weigh early so I'm not overly fussed. At least I've not gained, and my week has been a bit more sedentary this week too so perhaps next week I need to make more of an effort to be more active.

Would usually walk DS to school and back at least 3 days a week but he had a lot of absence last week that meant I hadn't got my steps in and couldn't get to the gym either.

So this week's goals: move more, even if it's just an hours slow walk at the end of the day.

Hello all, I did my second jab yesterday, lost 3kg in the first week which was a bit of a shock. Have been struck with a horrible virus all week so have been completely out of routine and home in bed all week. Starting to come out of the end of it, so this coming week will be a lot more normal. Lunches at work (food provided) will be a bit more of a challenge than making my own at home.
My general approach is intermittent fasting though, it worked really well for me several years ago so I'm using the Mounjaro to help get back to that and cut out snacking which is my absolute downfall.
