How to get the last dose out of Mounjaro?

Heydiddlediddlethe · 30/01/2025 06:38

I do not have a syringe. Is it possible to still get the bonus dose out of Mounjaro.
How can i tell how much is left in there without a syringe?

Just buy some insulin syringes off amazon.

Heydiddlediddlethe · 30/01/2025 06:47

Thanks. Sorry to sound daft but what part of the pen do i remove to get access once i have a syringe?

Hi Op . Just remove the cap and inject the insulin syringe needle ( from Amazon like the previous poster said) into the rubber diaphragm when you normally pierce it with the MJ needle . Draw up the dose ( it’s about 0.6ml so a full dose in my case ) and inject into your self as normal . Don’t forget to tap the insulin syringe and expel a tiny drop of liquid to remove air bubbles .
i did try snapping my MJ pens mechanism but it still wouldn’t plunge enough to release the 5th dose .

Thanks so much @Souredgrapes 😊

Would it be 0.6 ml from a 5 mg pen ? Thanks

Yes it's the same measurement just stronger concentration

WeAllHaveWings · 31/01/2025 03:47

Buy syringes off a medical supplier, not Amazon as there is no guarantee they are human quality as they are sold as industrial measurement tools.

Google 1ml 8mm 32G syringe. I used uk medi.

Heydiddlediddlethe · 31/01/2025 13:06

Thanks @WeAllHaveWings what’s the difference in terms of what we are looking for in a syringe used for animals or humans? It says it’s sterile?

OP posts:
Chocolateporridge · 31/01/2025 15:41

Is it still ok to inject into your thigh with these needles?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 31/01/2025 15:47

I always draw out all the medication I can, then adjust the dose when checking for air bubbles. 0.6ml is a full does of whatever strength the pen is.

I inject in the same place I normally do, but just take care as the needle length is slightly longer than the ones that come with the pen, but I've never had any issues

Because you would be buying from unregulated Amazon.
Just because they say they are sterile would you trust Amazon with this?
Also they are called measuring tools on Amazon, so who knows what you'll get. A blunt, unsterile measuring tool?

Purchase them from a regulated medical supplier/pharmacy.

You realise amazon buy them from the same factory that the pharmacy do? The pharmacy doesn't oversee the sterilisation!

Is it possible to change the needle once you’ve drawn up the bonus drop? Do insulin needles come with extra needles? One to draw the liquid into the syringe then change needle before injecting or do you use the same needle to do both?

Never seen one that has a detachable needle. The needle and the syringe all come as one.

Is there a reason you want to change the needle after you’ve drawn it up?

TheGreyBee · 15/02/2025 14:55

Just wondered if the needle would be blunt after going through the seal on the pen.

No, it’s totally fine.
The rubber seal is flexible, so it’s not tough enough to blunt the needle. Just a firm push through, draw it up, then inject. 😃

TheGreyBee · 15/02/2025 15:03

Thank you. Seems such a waste to throw away a whole dose!

You can buy luer lock syringes and needles if you feel more comfortable changing the needle between extraction and injection and/or want a 4mm or 6mm needle to inject with.

It is not needed and will cost a little bit more (but not much when you consider the cost per injection and that it is only once every 5 weeks), but if you are like me and can't bear to use/have a mental block about using the 8mm needles which pierced the vial then another option.

Syringe

Needles (obvious need to buy enough for two each injection) - these are 6mm which I prefer, but there are 4mm options and different gauges too (higher the gauge the finer the needle)

How to do it example (ignore the fact she is usual vials in her demo and that she is really annoying!)

Thank you. I’ve been using the 8mm needles but last one left a pink mark. I’m thinking of ordering the ones you recommend. I wonder if the 4mm will go in far enough? How are you getting on?

Hello again.

Does it matter that the 8mm needle is longer than the 5mm that comes with the pens? I can’t manage not to push it all the way in.

Thanks ☺️

I don't worry about this because I have quite the layer of fat, as most of us who use mounjaro do. As you lose weight you could consider injecting at an angle so the medication is delivered not so deep?

TheGreyBee · 23/04/2025 11:01

That’s a great tip. Thank you ☺️

Hello again.

Do you order the pen every four weeks or just when you need another one? I’ve already put a post here about this but I’m wondering if medexpress realise Im using the bonus dose will they stop prescribing to me.

Hope you don’t mind me asking another question. 🙋🏻‍♀️

thanks again

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/04/2025 11:36

I was with med express but moved to a cheaper supplier. But no, they don't seem to say anything. I had an issue with side effects and stepped my dose down. So I moved to 7.5, but had awful side effects, so went back to 5 for 2 weeks then 6.25 (I counted clicks) and used most of the medication in the pen before moving on and starting my next pen. So I technically got 6 doses out that pen, which I shouldn't have done as you should discard the pen after 28 days I think it it but it was fine.

I'm not on 10 with great suppression and very few side effects, I just needed a bit more time on a lower dose
