@claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer

Have a listen to that podcast ep I posted upthread - has an obesity doctor talking about coming off these meds and what you can do to maximise your chances of maintaining successfully, all with research to back it up.

Podcast is called High on Life and it's one of the latest eps, all about coming off GLP1s.

Thanks, I’ll check it out- wasn’t sure if it was just saying “you will definitely regain the weight!” which is too depressing to listen to tbh 😂

gimmemounjaro · 04/02/2025 14:52

@claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer

She does quote all the stats on that and I did find it a bit uncomfortable, I didn't want to know! BUT iirc there is an important caveat to one of the big studies saying everything is hopeless - yes, most people put on weight, but that was after both meds AND lifestyle support was withdrawn. So not necessarily reflecting what might happen to someone who continues with the exercise and better approach to food. And she talks about another study where 16% of people maintained successfully, but they don't know why yet. So it is possible, and the advice on how to maximise your chances is really useful I think. I will definitely revisit it if/when I ever get to that point 🤞

The Family Chemist asked for an email address for my GP surgery
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good luck with that!!!

My GP are notoriously uncontactable.

Having said that I do go in there to weigh myself occassionally and I give the slip the device print out to the receptionist and they have been putting my weight and BP on my records which do show up on the NHS ap.

That's a good idea. Ours has a machine in the waiting room which gives a slip with weight, BP etc on

RobinEllacotStrike · 04/02/2025 14:55

yes that is what I use - then I keep a photo of the printout for my records and give the receptionist the printout (after adding my name/DOB) and they log it on my medical records.

"Personally I think the rule of only weighing once a week is another unhealthy idea that has come from diet groups, that we've all been brainwashed to believe is the correct way."

I think you could be onto something here.

I've always gone the other way & not weighed at all. Jumping on very sporadically to recoil in horror. But it doesn't work as I always gain weight. Add an injury that prevents me from being active for a year and hello 8 MORE kilos.

Weighing everyday has to be considered. The maintenance of this weigh loss is going to require more changes & I need to consider the best way to track weight without feeling rubbish.

Wilful ignorance is not an effective strategy for change.

Hmmm this has given me lots to consider...

Thank you both for the insight.
Yep I avoid weighing unless I am loosing weight or expect to see weight loss.
Also a bit manipulative with it, ie only first thing in the morning, after a toilet visit and before a drink or food (naked). Guess we are all fearful of seeing increase. Guess that feeling comes from feeling out of control with it. 🤔

Carolwithane · 04/02/2025 15:53

I'm in a quandary, due 4th jab on Friday and not sure whether to reorder 2.5mg or move to 5mg

Started at 115kg (not weighed again yet, will do so on Thursday) suppression and food noise reduction still good with minimal side effects.

Has anyone stayed on 2.5mg or lower doses long term?

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 04/02/2025 16:04

You should stay on each dose for as long as you continue to experience good suppression @Carolwithane. From what you've said it doesn't sound like you need to move up. Some people do remain on the lower doses for the entirety of the process.

@Reginaphalangeeeee

i don’t necessarily consider that manipulative! The reality is weight varies through the day for various reasons, so it makes sense to choose a consistent time to carry it out. Sure, it could be just before bed, or just before your evening meal or whatever, but even with that consistency, what you have done that day impacts weight at varying levels. For me, at my heaviest, lots of walking in a day would cause water retention by evening.

for me, morning is the closest to always consistent. Not perfect, of course, what with hormones and maybe side effects like constipatjon, but the closest to actual consistency?

RobinEllacotStrike · 04/02/2025 16:08

did someone mention constipation?

gimmemounjaro · 04/02/2025 16:31

Literally just back from buying some to have in my smoothie later. The MJ patient's secret weapon 🥝🥝

RobinEllacotStrike · 04/02/2025 17:01

Funny but unrelated fact - one of my first jobs after leaving school was for the NZ Fruit Producers organisation - on the kiwi fruit team 🤣 I use to count how many kiwi fruit were in coolstores ready to be exported.

I left after a months trail as it wasn't for me.

In another life I could have been big in the kiwi fruit export world

gimmemounjaro · 04/02/2025 17:04

You are still doing your bit for kiwi PR @RobinEllacotStrike 😂

Carolwithane · 04/02/2025 17:06

Thank you @VelociraptorsVelociRapping ! Think I'll stick to 2.5mg for now

Maybe change my mind when I weigh in on Thursday 😆 I'm trying to avoid the scales as one disappointing result sends me right off track. Will try to limit it to every 3 or 4 weeks

NewbieMJ · 04/02/2025 17:25

Just checking in. Great to hear everyone's successes on and off the scales.

So very sorry for the loss of your Mum @CanIGoHomeNowPlease

I am now exactly 16 stone (down from 18 stone 11 in September). I seem to be a fairly slow loser, but happy enough to plod along. I find it all very easy and no side effects, so all good (taking 7.5mg from my 10mg pen).

I am tantalisingly close to getting to the 3 stone mark, and also desperate to get to 15 stone something!

I met friends today for lunch and they were all saying how fantastic I looked and were genuinely delighted for me. No one knows IRL that I am on MJ - I just said it is keto, I feel great and low carbing seems to be the only thing that works for me and I am so insulin resistant that it is a slow process, yada yada....none of which is lies, just omitted the MJ bit😂

It's not just the weight loss, which is bloody brilliant, but my skin looks so much better...smooth elbows too and despite having loads still to lose, I do look much better - I think I was carrying a lot of inflammation? Not sure.

Onwards and upwards lovely losers. This thread has been fantastic

Similar loss to me

Go us

Go everyone on here

Such great work

And some days it is not bloody easy

Orangesandlemons77 · 04/02/2025 17:29

Similasr here, down nearly 3 stone from 16 ish in Sep to 13ish now. Short though.

A question. I just took 10mg and it seemed to work quicker than 5mg or 7.5. As it gets higher does it work quicker? I guess it is more concentrated as the same volume..within a few minutes felt really bloated and full.

hellohellooo · 04/02/2025 17:31

Interesting

Not found that at all

Had to drop down to 7.5 as my brain fog from 10mg was just unsustainable
I could not work for a few days it got so bad :(

It seems to have given me a headache so far

I also have brain fog but perimenopausal so was assuming it was that.

I'm on my 2nd 7.5mg pen and I've ordered a 3rd.
I'm doing ok on it and hope to stay on 7.5 for a while

I made it through three 7.5mg pens and then towards the end bumped to 8mg. I’m doing this with my 4th 7.5mg pen this month, and will go up .25 or .5 at a time as needed. I didn’t think 8mg would do much more but it seems to be working. Maybe its psychological!

Did receive my next pen today though and got 10mg. Not to use 10mg but its the same price and I’m content to use a 6th dose from it, although I will stick to my order schedule.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 04/02/2025 22:22

For those who have lost alot, this may seem an odd question but has your nose changed???

I am week 3, lost 12lbs now and not really noticeable as I am 130kg. I guess I look less bloated but the thing I really notice is my nose is smaller/narrower.
I've always had a little nose and it definitely got bigger/wider in pregnancy but stayed there.
I mean my 12lbs loss is not off my nose and not enough weight loss to really affect my face. My double chin very much there still.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Oh and on that note... peach fuzz on my face. I do struggle with it and maybe time to wax again but I am sure it's growing more. Maybe this is the collagen powder 🤷‍♀️
Or a MJ thing?

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 04/02/2025 22:34

No change to my nose, @Reginaphalangeeeee, although my facial features (especially my eyes) do look relatively larger in my now-smaller face. It sounds like you might have had some swelling which has gone down with the MJ's impact on any inflammation.

I am on my fourth pen at 2.5. So far I have lost 15kg / 2 stone 5lbs Started at 100.7 kg (or 15stone 12lbs). 3 stone 7lbs / 22kg to go

Yeah I was thinking inflammation/swellling but who knows why from there 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it is related to Immune health, noses swell when snotty with a cold or when you cry and my breathing is clearer. Husband says my snoring improved (gone) in under 1 week on MJ
