Another vote for the Warburtons Protein bagel thins, they are under £1.50 in Asda at the moment, really nice.

I did exactly as above when I couldn't eat a lot I added avocado for calories.

unicornsaremagical · 02/02/2025 09:41

@Changingnameagain i have to agree, it’s so disheartening seeing a gain after limiting eating habits so much. Last week i had a protein shake and some grapes when i couldn’t stomach food and still gained, my loss has really slowed and that makes it so much harder. I have 4 days away this week and knowing i have to eat cautiously is making me feel so stressed. That’s a great loss on your waist. so keep meaning to measure but still haven’t 4weeks in

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 02/02/2025 09:45

I weighed this morning at w2 d5 and I have lost 3lb since Wed, taking my total loss in 12 days to 4.8lb. V pleased with that.

I had a small, minimal cheese, veggie topping homemade pizza on Friday night - Friday morning I weighed 18.11 - saturday and this morning I'm at 18.12. I'm blaming the pizza. Equally I just feel like I've cut down so much already like the pizza is the same size now as the ones my children get, I have 2/3 less cheese on topping and no pepperoni or similar so I don't want to cut the pizza altogether and am feeling hard done by tbh that I can't even eat a much smaller portion and modified version of one without putting on a whole bloody pound. I think novelty of the new way of eating has worn off now it isn't being offset with amazing losses- but this is now the grind part of the journey which I'm historically not good at pushing through. However as I've spent £240 now on this whole thing I'm going to push through because I can't bear to fail and waste the money! I did measure my waist this morning and it was 39.5 inches so that's down from 42 at end of december and that has buoyed me up a bit mentally.

I've been observing closely how the slim people in my office eat over the last couple of months.

They don't really deny themselves anything. If we have celebration lunches or cake they will eat well with the rest of us, and will sometimes say they have been out for dinner and indulged.

The difference seems to be that for a few days afterwards they don't really eat much at all.

Maybe if you think along the lines of calories per week rather than per day it would be less disheartening. It's what I'm going to do because I feel that this Mj journey is my chance to develop habits that I can stick to for life, and part of that means being able to enjoy the odd meal out or naughty food. It will just be an occasional thing instead of a frequent one.

I would like to be able to enjoy the odd takeaway for family gatherings, but have cut the twine weekly ones we had before.

Good morning my darlings

@MananaMananaPenelope ohhh that pearl barley risotto looks nice. I may make that for lunch. Does it freeze?

I am always a bit put of protein foods as I (rightly or wrongly) associate them with a lot of upfs. Waitrose do a seeded bagel thin which is quite nice https://www.ocado.com/products/fitzgeralds-6-multiseed-cereal-sliced-bagel-thins-479545011?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&utmcampaign=955441401&utmmcontent=non-brand&gclsrc=aw.ds&dsrl=1291426&dssrl=1126321&dsrl=1164972&gaddsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAADi6iHnZySsY70DRuuQqK7Nck59G&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzP6g8tmkiwMVP5JQBh0GpRvSEAQYASABEgIXrPDD_BwE. Looking at the warbutons one they are a bit hugging in protein but not that much.

So sleep update - went to bed after masked singer (I am so class) and slept til 5. I then woke up to the most horrific upset stomach. 20 mins on the loo. Then back to bed, read a chapter of my book and went back to sleep until 9! So I think I got about 10 hours of sleep - yay.

Boo for the tummy, the quite impressive wind that went with it and the burps. Dh said it was like he woke up next to the grimethorpe colliery band. I think this is either down to the Dahl I made yesterday which had quite a lot of spice in it plus lentils obviously or the halo top ice cream I had. I didn't have loads but it was the last portion in the tub and had a chunk of the peanut butter goo. Let's hope it goes....

This is very much my approach too. I want to recalibrate my eating habits.

I’m (shh) not actually that bothered about ending up slim, if I could get to a size 12/14 I’d be delighted.

CurlsandCurves · 02/02/2025 10:07

I know the answer is on this thread somewhere, but I can’t find it, so…

What needles do you order for extracting the extra dose and where do I order them from please?

Is it worth doing, as in is it a genuine extra dose? Just seems odd that there’s an extra dose in the pen that the manufacturer won’t let us access.

MananaMananaPenelope · 02/02/2025 10:08

@myladyjane a very good sleep 10/10, hopefully you will feel better for it despite your stomach.

I've never tried to freeze it. I've got teenagers here so leftovers go in the fridge and magically disappear within a day.

I will have a look for those bagels, thank you.

I'm going to ask my endocrinologist what she thinks my end point looks like when I see her, MJ is allowing me to eat 1000 cals a day rather than 1500 I've not lost any weight on. She thinks I need less than 1500 at my stage of life - but what after I've lost weight?

@Newshoesnewname I did used to look at my calories over a week - 10-11,000 a week. I think that's probably a healthy mindset.

Newshoesnewname · 02/02/2025 10:10

@IBloodyLoveMyBlanket me too. My final goal is to be in the overweight BMI bracket as I've been obese since my early 20s.

At 19/20 I was in the overweight category but as an hourglass I think there is naturally a bit more fat. I did a bit of modelling and still think my figure was amazing then.

Menopausal now so I'm sure my shape will have changed a bit but I would be happy with that BMI.

I agree. I’m 6 foot tall and honestly the thought of even BMI 23 seems tiny to me. I was always quite happy when I was 25-27.
I’m aiming for a size 14 as that’s when I look best imo.

myladyjane · 02/02/2025 10:22

@Newshoesnewname, @IBloodyLoveMyBlanket me too. I lost a chunk of weight in my very early 40s and kept it off for 6 years. I only got down to a bmi of under 25 when I had norovirus.

Most of the time I bobbed around 11 and a half stone which is a bmi of 27/28. I was a 14, I ran a bit and walked loads, I played with the kids, my bad knee behaved. I ate out, had puddings and the odd take away but ate fairly well 75% of the time. Given I'd always been overweight since childhood, this felt good. If I can get back there as I head into my 50s then that's ideal for me.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 02/02/2025 10:25

I’m mid 50s and already have zero tone under my chin so I don’t want to be one of those people who look like they’ve been deflated. Vanity over health every time. Grin

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/02/2025 10:40

I'd love to get back to the overweight category but for me that's possibly still 10stone. I'm trying to prepare myself for the "tucking stomach skin" into my jeans. I don't like the idea one hit but I think for me expecting me to be the way I was is a pipe dream and realising it will be a little different is good. I just want to move easier and not be the morbidly obese person in the room.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 02/02/2025 10:53

Me too, @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden , I’m only 5’4” so I should be aiming for 10 stone. I was 12 stones when I graduated, so 10 stones seems unrealistic. I’m very muscular. I’m measuring my waist too, as recommended on the BHF website.

I used these: www.shdmedical.co.uk/needles/1ml-bd-micro-fine-29g-syringe-bag-of-10/

I managed to get slightly more than 2.5mg out of my pen with this. Obviously not recommended by the manufacturer and prescriber, entirely your own decision. I wanted to give it a go to see if I can safely extract another dose (didn't want to faff around with counting clicks), but was prepared to go straight to 5mg if I couldn't get it to work.
It was a lot easier than expected. The needles are sterile, and I'm used to jabbing myself after years of clexane.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/02/2025 11:04

Those extracting doses... Do your providers not "notice" you aren't ordering every 4 weeks?

@TicTac80 ive never heard of a protein bagel but this could be a great thing for me. Do they taste like normal ones? as i find protein products to have an awful taste normally.
I think my low calorie diet is going to have to change as i was losing really well but seem to have reached a plateau. Going to try upping my calories from 800 to maybe 1200 or try a zig zag diet and hope it helps. Well done to everyone’s incredible losses! Looking forward to seeing how people react to starting 5mg as i will be next week.

800 calories is definitely too low unicornsaremagical
your body is probably in shock! No-ones TDEE is 800 cals. Have you done your TDEE? Also, you haven't "plateaued" in your 4th week - your body is probably just not able to work properly on such low calories and 90mins exercise a day. I know I'm being bossy again but I really find your post worrying. We don't want to be coming out of this with eating disorders, right?

thornbury
It's interesting about the full feel8ng. I'm usually a real clear my plate girl and would carry on past feeling full. It's bizarre to me this feeling of only eating half your meal then leaving the rest - this must be how slim people feel 🤷‍♀️
Makes you realise how we train our bodies to consume food we don't need in the name of greed/habit/being polite!

Changingnameagain
Haven't you lost 22lbs in your first month though? That's huge.
Most people won't consistently lose every week, it's normal. I'd stop weighing every day if I were you as your happiness is becoming dependent on what's on the scale every. You are losing weight and inches, it's going to take time to get to your goal and it won't be linear but you'll get there. Focus on what you've achieved so far.

JoanCollinsDiva · 02/02/2025 11:23

This is bang on.

Its all about balance - not denying yourself everything you enjoy. That's never going to work. Eating three slices of pizza in an otherwise healthy week isn't going to make you gain weight. Probably more likely that it's hormonal/bloating and our weight naturally fluctuates but will go down if we are consuming less calories than we are burning over time.

Im glad others are planning on getting to the size they're comfortable at rather than focussing too much on bmi. The fact that at my height - 5"8" - I could apparently go down to 8st 10lbs and be considered healthy is baffling to me. When I get to less than 11 stone I'm in a size 8-10 and people start asking if I'm ill!

myladyjane · 02/02/2025 11:26

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I won't be the same provider. Am going to switch. I am comfortable with the bonus dose and my pen will only have been open 30 days.

@JoanCollinsDiva I agree with you. Especially around the daily weighing. As someone who perhaps has dwelled on the scales too much in the past to the extent they used to cause slightly disordered behaviour, i can feel myself clench a bit when I read about daily weighing. That is 100% me projecting based upon my own experience so I know others are not the same but if you feel your mood impacted then maybe stepping away may be good?

Once I'm properly into the swing of this I am going to move to monthly weighing for this reason - I need the accountability of data but not the roller coaster ride it brings me personally. Once a week is challenging enough!

I get reminders that I can order my next pen but that's it. I've switched providers as well, and I reckon they are all aware that this can happen.

unicornsaremagical · 02/02/2025 11:29

@JoanCollinsDiva my tdee is 2300. Trying a week of maintenance then doing 1200 going forwards i think. My body seems to lose really slow from the exercise but i realise 90mins sound excessive, my apple watch says it burns roughly 800cals.

I'm with juniper and they've sent 5 needle heads with my first pen so I'm thinking they expect people to be extracting the 5th dose? They just send the pens out every 4 weeks regardless I think unless I cancel.

JoanCollinsDiva · 02/02/2025 11:33

unicornsaremagical
I agree you should up your calories - you're going to quickly ending up feeling like shit eating 800 cals a day x

TicTac80 · 02/02/2025 11:38

@Newshoesnewname, I was looking (sneakily) at what my auntie (my mum's sister) was eating when I went to the family gathering a couple of weeks back. She is a similar size/build to my mum (all the females on mum's side are slim but active). She didn't deny herself anything that was there, but she ate only until she felt full. My mum was the same: she'd eat what she fancied, but once she was full, that was it: no finishing what was on the plate, no eating more "just because" etc. Portion size was small. If she wanted more, she'd help herself to a bit more.

I'm still feeling full after the bagel and avocado. Almost to the point that I'm feeling nauseous, but sipping water and trying not to think about it. Definitely going to make some smoothies, just waiting for some seeds and bits to arrive.

I’m also with Juniper. You can delay your next order by up to two weeks. I’ve already delayed mine by a week as they sent my second pen over a week and a half too early when I switched plans to stay on 2.5mg.
I’m going to wait another couple of weeks and then delay it again by another week or two, depending on whether I want to move up to 5.
