I'm a bodypump instructor and honestly weights make such a difference. I have several people in their 70s coming to classes, they are in great shape and move like they're in their 20s.

Last year I went to my local leisure centre to do a few classes and I was the youngest there. I tried legs, bums and tums and body pump and I literally was left panting whilst the 60 and 70 odd yr olds sailed through it without breaking a sweat.

You've just reminded me I need to go back actually - I think I stopped bc I was a bit miffed at how crap I was 😂

Do! I was utterly crap when I first started, could barely lift the bar.

DGonMJ · 31/01/2025 16:32

@HeavyHeidi 100% agree about weights keeping you young and mobile!

I’m finally into a good rhythm with my dumbbells at home. Twice a week I follow 20-30minute full body gym workouts on the Peloton app, plus see a PT once a week for a heavier session, and I’m feeling stronger each week. I know it’s going to help combat the loss of muscle. I’ve kept this up all January, if I can keep going to end of March I’m hoping I’ve ‘set the habit’ for a good long while.

@JoanCollinsDiva thank for your kind but firm words. We’re here to support each other and remind each other that we’re all unique but we’re on the journey together. We want everyone to do this safely, and feel encouraged even during the ‘stay the same’ weeks.

Has anybody found a decent protein shake? I have always weight trained so don't want to lose muscle, but it's hard to eat enough protein. I've tried seveal powders, but they are either too floury or sickly sweet. Anything that has a more pleasant taste? Or no taste at all?

Team RH protein powder tastes amazing and is really high in protein and macros. Either in a shake, or I stir mine into Greek yoghurt and add berries, chia seeds and a small bit of granola for a delicious breakfast.

RosaBaby2 · 31/01/2025 17:55

Right! Weigh 6 and 2lb off, 18lb total.

Jab 6 (first of 5mg pen) this morning, I decided to go 3.75mg as I always jab before work and was worried about side effects. Glad I did because I've felt like shit all day!

Had breakfast and a protein bar then felt no hunger at all so left my lunch. Eating my lunch now for dinner with an added protein bagel and half an avocado for good measure. Will have a protein shake later.

Still feeling super positive on the whole and my mental health is so much better too which is amazing.

TicTac80 · 31/01/2025 18:06

@Jins, I’m about 5ft 4. is that similar to you?

Don’t know about you but for me, this weight piled on in the past 5yrs. My DC are 18 and 11, so I can’t blame it on pregnancy. I can’t blame covid as I bloody worked through it! My activity levels haven’t changed in the past decade, nor has my diet (I’ve luckily always had a very healthy diet). I said in my last post that it ties in with when peri started, but another PP also mentioned their endocrinologist had said that sometimes women need fewer calories than before. I’ve never realised that. For me, it’s probably a combination of those things.

So I’m cutting portion sizes down, being super mindful of exactly what I’m eating and how much, eating only when I’m hungry and stopping when I’m full. If I fancy having an ice cream or a packet of crisps, I’ll have it, but it’ll be a small portion.

A stone down now and I am already starting to feel better.

TicTac80 · 31/01/2025 18:10

@RosaBaby2 , did you measure out the 3.75mg using a syringe? I’m guess it would 0.9ml (assuming 2.5mg = 0.6ml)? I may try this next Friday, when I start new syringe. I’ll see how this week goes. Hopefully the Zava people won’t have an issue with that!

Jins · 31/01/2025 18:24

@TicTac80 I’m bang on 5ft 3.

The weight piled on me over the last 5 years or so but I do actually have a cause. I’d lost weight, and more importantly maintained, for nearly 10 years doing low carb, specifically Atkins. Then peri hit and everything fell apart - literally! I had two years of investigation of every corner of my digestive tract and finally a consultant I was referred to when it was determined that surgery wouldn’t fix me put me on a diet which I’ve stayed on for 7 years. So far so good. Except that it’s gluten free, very low fibre, NO fruit, and limited veg. Which is virtually the opposite of what I need to maintain my weight. Living off potatoes has made me look like one 🥲

So I’m using the space that Mounjaro has given me to modify the consultants diet sheet to significantly reduce carbs without adding too much fibre.

No I counted the clicks following a chart I've seen but I guess you could do it that way instead!

@JoanCollinsDiva sensible post. 👏 Enjoy your haircut.

I wouldn’t say I’ve gone off booze as I’d reduced my drinking anyway - maybe a bottle of wine every fortnight - but I’ve got no desire to drink atm. We have a selection of about nine nice fruit/herbal teas and I have one of those every evening.

I’m trying to eat 1000 calories a day minimum, I’ve planned today in nutracheck, I know dinner will be that, the question is whether I can actually manage to eat the soup and the yoghurt.

I’m trying to incorporate eating in an 8 hour window as the loss of breakfast is an easy way to reduce calories, but I was hungry today.

I’ll be walking about four miles later on.

Hey @MananaMananaPenelope , could you please let me know what app is that. It looks pretty cool and i wouldn't mind trying it myself x

@owly321 how was your first jab day? :)

So... i survived my jab day... just about. I was so overwhelmed with it and honestly thought i wouldn't be able to do it. We are here, and still kicking, and we done it!
I haven't said anything to anyone, i hate the saying "its cheating, just go on a diet" i think if i hear it one more time ill over-boil.

Could someone please advise about "golden does" i seen some videos on tiktok where people just force the pen to get to dose, is that how its done?
If you guys have any good advice for "first time jab-er" please throw them my way :)

Very grateful for this community, it really helps to know there are others in a whirlwind of emotions just as myself x

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 31/01/2025 19:57

@MillaRei if you have a look back through this thread, you'll see quite a bit about the extra dose.
I took mine yesterday.
A few people recently saying they have broken the pen with the 'hard twist' method, but then the plunger wouldn't work.
I didn't even attempt that, and bought insulin syringes (from a medical supplier, not amazon - also linked somewhere in this thread) and withdrew it from the pen using the syringe, then used that to inject.
If you check YouTube there are plenty of videos for both methods.

MillaRei · 31/01/2025 20:06

Hey @Howinthehelldidthishappen, thanks for your reply.
I have to say i was absolutely petrified to do jab itself, and am unsure if i could ever do the syringe version... cause... oh gosh.
I sound very dramatic don't i. I guess ill have to try with the twist and pray to jab gods that it works :)

I have seen someone linking Medi* other day, so i have ordered extra alcohol wipes and needles just in case...

Fully prepared... i think...

HelpMebeok · 31/01/2025 20:08

I started last Saturday and wanted to ask advice. So Saturday to Thursday I was totally fine. No symptoms but food noise definitely down and not that hungry and able to eat pretty normally. Yesterday night started to feel more hunger and tonight I was really hungry and thinking about food a lot.
does anyone else find the hunger comes back at the end of the week? What can I do to avoid this?

EverybodySayCheeze · 31/01/2025 20:25

Can someone explain how I get the golden dose. Everyone says they use a syringe but they sound so confident and I don’t think I’d know where to start.
Do I just buy a syringe off Amazon? Presumably with a needle? I swear I’m not a total idiot but I feel way out of my depth.

@EverybodySayCheeze don't worry, i feel exactly the same :D Absolute complete noob here, and i just had a look at the syringes and needles... on omg...overwhelming, really don't know where to start with it and if i could do it. Total needle wimp here :(

Zempy · 31/01/2025 20:41

@HelpMebeok Most of us find the food noise returns to some extent as the week goes on.

Remember 2.5 is just a starting dose to get your body used to the medication. Some people don’t have any suppression at all until their dose increases.

This is normal as the half life is 5 days. But as time goes on it will start to build up in your system (have a look at Shotsy app) and it will probably reduce a bit but then over time may come back as your body gets used to a dose.

HelpMebeok · 31/01/2025 20:54

Thank you, that's really helpful.

Bit premature since we're less than 500 posts so far! 🤣

@EverybodySayCheeze & @MillaRei it really is quite simple. Several of us have linked the needles we bought from places such as medi.co.uk further up thread. Have a look for those. Many on other threads have said not to buy the ones on Amazon as they are not suitable for human use.
To use the remaining solution in the pen with a syringe, take the lid off the pen and wipe the end with antiseptic wipe as you would for normal use. Take the cover off the syringe needle and stick it into the end of the pen where you normally attach the little needle. Pull the plunger back to draw the liquid into the syringe. Tap the syringe to make air bubbles go to the top (needle end!) and then gently press the plunger to expel any air until a little liquid comes out. Then inject in whatever area you choose (remember to vary this and not always inject the same site). Several have found that it's easier to press this plunger than the one on the pen, so really is quite simple!

The syringes are single use and come with a needle so you just use one syringe each time and dispose of the whole syringe in a sharps bin.

ETPhoneHome19 · 01/02/2025 05:51

@Seaitoverthere thanks for confirming, I've placed an order 🙂

So I started healthy eating on 1st Jan and took my first jab on 5th, lost 8kg in a month but none of that last week. I feel so much better for the weight loss and so much healthier eating well and avoiding the crap. 8kg is a hell of a lot to lose in a month so I don’t care that it has slowed up although will be going up to 3.75 on Thursday x well done to all you lovely Jan starters - let’s see what Feb brings 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼❤️
