Body Positive Love GIF by SoulPancake

i used to be a super sporty child and then life happened. i've put on a few pounds and my food (mainly snacking) choices aren't the best...

i feel like if i just dedicated time to exercising then i'd get fit but i don't want to keep the current relationship that i have with food, you know?

is taking weight loss medication cheating, really?

What pleas gives you the impression any one of us don’t know this, and are not applying it? I myself have said it repeatedly. And confirmed I myself am eating healthy, what would you like. To come round my house and watch?

All you’ve mentioned is what you eat. You keep saying you eat healthily. Ok fine, perhaps you do. In calorie deficit: great. You’ll be losing weight.

But maybe you are burning the wrong fuel. Maybe you’re not building muscle which naturally aids weight loss. Maybe you aren’t doing any impact sport to build your bone strength. These things matter when you hit menopause and need strength and balance to avoid falls.

You haven’t mentioned any of that. Just what you eat…

I would disagree that any of those outweigh a natural weight loss process, including bone health, body fat percentage, and impact on muscle mass.

All of those you listed are natural consequences of losing weight. But targeted health management along with weight loss gives far better outcomes as well as being thinner.

But just taking the jabs, letting it do the work, and chasing being thin, won’t give you the same health.

That's not what the research says but believe what you like, it really doesn't matter.

Eh no,

I am in the gym five to six days a week doing a mix of targeted annd mixed exercises designed for me. Both free weights and things like treadmill, rower, climber, bike etc,

I can easily do a sitting squat. In fact I can do 50. With ease. Genuinely. And I do a range of core exercises.

i eat veg, salad, and lean proteins, meats, fish, seafood, eggs, with healthy fats, and some fruits, I also eat small portions of simple carbs.

i also take a variety of different vitamins, to support my health.

there is no part of the fact that I take mounjaro that makes me uneducated or ill informed.

PinkArt · 22/01/2025 15:00

Thanks for the link which has nothing to do with any of the health benefits I mentioned 👍🏻
Look I find often it would be quicker for people to say I don't like lazy fat people and I want it to be hard work for them to become thin like me. Much less effort than getting frothy at internet strangers because they are using a medication you don't want or need and are presumably not taking yourself.

OK I mentioned in my first post I am focusing on fitness, am doing a half marathon and triathalon this summer. I also do pilates ( a form of strength training) on my rest days to build muscle and help recovery.

The health concerns you mentioned come from rapid weight loss. Most of the advice on these threads is aim for 1-2 lbs a week weight loss, focus on protein intake and strength training to adress this concern.

The "you don't need it and your just lazy and stupid argument ( in the form of have you tried eating less and exercising more)" is the one that gets to people as many like me have read alot of books on nutrition, tried multiple diets and are not fat out of ignorance. When I calorie restrict and exercise or try 1 meal a day I end up incredibly irritable, weak, dizzy and just out of it. I end up constantly thinking about and obsessing over food untill I break and binge. This is not healthier then a drug that tapers out my blood sugar levels and gives me the clarity to focus on good choices and the energy to move more.

lastminutetrip · 22/01/2025 15:04

I don’t think anyone is lazy or stupid for taking it at all. That’s putting words in my mouth.

@Dietingfool is clearly doing a lot of hard work which took a lot of coaxing out because he/she answered me three times just about diet and calorie deficits when the point I was making was that the exact attitude to have to weight loss should be overall and not just scale based.

I am a female. A menopausal one also. I repeatedly said I ate healthy. I didn’t realise I had to explain fully what I did. But now you have the detail. If you read the threads, many of us are similar.

the fact I hit menopause, gained weight during Covid and beyond, became insulin resistant and struggled to lose it, did not make me uneducated or lazy.

I should not have to point this out.

mollymazda · 22/01/2025 15:08

cheating who? or what?

if you had a broken leg, would you refuse a cast and allow it to set on its own? if you went to the dentist and refuse pain killers and just sit and take the pain?

if it works for you, and you can afford it (or are lucky enough to get it free) then, if it suits you, then do it!

Mounjaro is a short term quick fix for a complex problem.

Exactly this. It treats the symptom, not the cause.

It treats the cause of obesity by making eating in excess almost impossible. That's good enough for me.

Weepixie · 22/01/2025 15:16

Is that what you did? Because I can tell you know that if you go through the umpteen threads here about WLJ’s they’ll clearly indicate that most of those on them are taking quite a few different approaches to their journey.

And just so you know - there are also women here who’ve been going to the gym as overweight women for years and didn’t have to start going when they started the jabs.

You’re harking on as if your some kind of oracle regarding WLJ’s but it’s clear you suffer from tunnel vision regarding them and everything you say is based on your own failure with them.

You need to be quiet or say something that isn’t biased due to your own experience.

This is what occurred to me. I think 'just do more exercise' may replace 'just eat less' for people who like to judge and have picked overweight people to do that to.

No skin in the game, I don't do the injections. But it's really noticeable.

I’m always at these smug moranjo/ozempic users who say it teaches them good eating habits…just be sensible in the first place and allow diabetics the medication they need.
I'm ready to be sent to hell by mumsnetters!

Oh for Christ sake nobody is stealing medication from diabetics!!

Oh dear 🙄. I’m sorry but I think the majority of posters will just ignore you.

But if you’re in that much of a need for attention then start some kind of a thread on AIBU, say you’re a mistress, or your cheating the benefits system, or your transgendered and won’t be chased out of the women’s changing rooms. Any of those topics should get you the attention and the roasting in hell you’re craving.

You sound jealous in all honesty. These women could have lost 3 stone purely calorie counting or SW or anything else and still look “ill”.

I’ve lost 24 LBs through healthy eating and loads of exercise. I sleep like a log, I’m the fittest I’ve ever been and I feel fantastic. I’ve worked really hard on myself and it’s paid off. I’m really proud of myself actually.

Why on earth would I be jealous of people injecting themselves with chemicals to trick their body that they are full? What is it that they have, that I secretly covet?

Weepixie · 22/01/2025 15:45

Injecting ourselves with chemicals? Do you mean prescribed and fully approved medication?

can you really not see why people think you’re envious, due to this sort of goady thing you write?

You clearly have very signficant issues with people who chose to be on this medication.

So if it isn’t envy, then what is it?

Caffeineneedednow · 22/01/2025 15:53

"Why on earth would I be jealous of people injecting themselves with chemicals to trick their body that they are full? What is it that they have, that I secretly covet?"

I mean if we're being pedantic about terminology the drug is a peptide and even that healthy food you are eating contains chemicals. For examples vitamins are chemical substances.

Anyway this statement clearly describes your low opinion of the people who are "cheating" and not putting in the hard work like you.

Don't take them if you dont want to but stop judging others.

Good for you and I genuinely mean that, I applaud anyone who improves their health, fitness and general wellbeing. It’s what I’m striving for and probably most of the other people on these injections.

I think you need to read back your last paragraph, the tone and choice of words, and tell me why it bothers you so much what means other people use to lose weight, if it isn’t jealousy.

NoAprilFool · 22/01/2025 16:25

As I have no plans to enter the weight loss Olympics, I couldn’t care less if they’re “cheating”.

I'm slim and healthy. I eat a really good diet, exercise and feel good in my mind too. I'd say that's a win. And it's due to WLIs.

It's all due to willies?

I think a lot of people don't want to admit to themselves quite how judgey they are about fat people.
It wouldn't cross my mind to seek out a smokers section of MN and chastise people for using patches or gum to help quit smoking and I don't really see why WLI are any different. Both are non-essential but staggeringly helpful tools to get (often) self imposed health issues under control.
It's amazing that smokers don't have to go it alone, it's amazing that obese people don't, it'll be amazing if with further research alcoholics or drug addicts could get similar support.

theweightlossqueen · 22/01/2025 16:55

that's such a good point about vitamins actually

speaking of which, what do people recommend in general? is taking well woman enough?
