Is it really worth it?

I’m not sure if there is already is a thread about this but I’ll start one anyway.

is it really worth it with these side effects? I feel ok just feeling a bit nauseous it’s one feeling that I really don’t like it takes me back to pregnancy I hated the feeling. I also started having a headache late last night.

is it worth feeling not well and genuinely under the weather to get rid of the weight?

im on my first jag I took on Tuesday night so only couple days in but I’m thinking if I’m really going to always feel sick and have headaches is it worth it?

even the look or smell of food is making me worse because I’ve not managed anything other than a sandwich yesterday morning and 2 strawberries that I had to force last night thinking it would help the sickness feeling

I had some side effects on 2.5 and then on five and also on the first week I took 7.5. Since then I've taken 7.5 for several months and I've lost nearly 4 stone in total. I haven't had any side-effects since then so for me it was worth sticking to it.

PigInAHouse · 16/01/2025 08:03

Well only you can decide if it’s worth it for you. It was definitely worth it for me. Mild nausea, headaches (and a bit of constipation for me) vs a potential lifetime of weight related health issues, it was a no brainer for me. But only you can make the decision for yourself.

B2B25 · 16/01/2025 08:04

Honestly? Yes I think it is. I'd take feeling nauseous over being obese. The side effects tend to dwindle off after a little while.

You can get some anti sickness tablets I think? Or try natural remedies like ginger?

thesaskedminger · 16/01/2025 08:06

I would not be doing it if it made me feel like that. I have done 10 weeks so far and haven't suffered any side effects. I decided to give it a go and if it made me feel awful I would never have continued. As it happens I have lost 2 stone and never felt better.

Snozzlemaid · 16/01/2025 08:10

You're on your first week and your body is getting used to a new drug.
The side effects will most likely ease as you go on. So I would say give it a chance, it's much too early to throw in the towel just yet.

Make sure you drink plenty - I get a headache if I don't. And stay away from fatty, rich foods, which can make symptoms worse.

If you do stick with it, don't rush to go up to a higher dose if you're experiencing side effects. Take your time with it.

And to answer your question, yes it is definitely worth it. I've lost 5 stone which I would never have achieved without MJ.

Shrinkingrose · 16/01/2025 08:20

I’ve been totally fine other than when I first moved to 5mg.

id also consider not eating makes you feel sick and headachy. So I’d be getting some food in.

spinningisthebest · 16/01/2025 08:43

I had nausea and diarrhoea for the first couple of weeks and felt pretty wretched but it has since eased off. I find when I am going up a dose the nausea returns but like others feel it is a price worth paying for the benefits - I find that as my body gets used to the dose there is a period of time when I feel fine so long as I stick to healthy food and really limit alcohol - one glass is now my absolute max in a night, before suppression starts to ebb and I feel I need to go up again. I don't go up every month. I am a slow loser, 24 lbs since September and am currently at a plateau but will continue as the benefits to my sleep, overall energy and mood are so great.

FlappingMadly · 16/01/2025 08:47

You're just a couple days in. Wait and see. You need to eat more. Stay hydrated and distract yourself - the nausea should pass.

emilysquest · 16/01/2025 08:48

Completely worth it for me as it has caused me to stop drinking as a byproduct! I was nauseous and had a headache every morning anyway, from the wine. Now if I do feel a bit like that, at least there is a point to it.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 16/01/2025 09:02

Worth it? HELL YES!

MJ is the only chance I have of leading a ‘normal’ life without knee pain, constant asthma crises, high blood pressure, high chance of stroke or cancer, having to climb a flight of stairs on my hands and feet… Where shall I stop?

I’m not in it to lose a few pounds. I am changing my life forever!!

Luminousalumnus · 16/01/2025 09:08

Give yourself a month and probably the side effects will have gone completely. If not, rethink. Honestly though if you are not prepared to deal with a few days or weeks of nausea then you have to ask yourself if you are committed to losing weight and benefiting your health at all.

Peridot1 · 16/01/2025 09:08

I tend to find I feel a bit queasy if I need to eat something. Once I eat it goes away.

I’m only 2 days in due the next jag next Tuesday. I’ll see how a feel come next Tuesday won’t be putting my body through that.

It’s not that I’m not committed I just don’t see feeling ill to lose weight feeling terrible each day not been able to deal with my both 6 year olds because I’m constantly in bed.

I do want to lose weight I wouldn’t be on the jag if I didn’t 😊

Do u eat even though you don’t feel like it at all?

the thought of food is making me want to be sick I haven’t actually been sick yet just feeling very sick I was drinking at least one full 2L bottle of coke each day plus 2 cans of red bull now I can’t put any fizzy just to my mouth without wanting to run to the toilet.

I forget majority of the time that my body is so used to lots of sugar now there no sugar in my body at all.

I’ve only ate a sandwich since yesterday morning and been drinking water, water is the only thing that’s I’m able to drink.

Water being the only thing you’re able to drink is not a bad thing.

SilenceInside · 16/01/2025 09:29

When I first started, I was put off drinking anything apart from water. I always drink coffee, but the first few weeks I couldn't even manage half a cup. That's settled down now.

I agree that it's a good thing that you aren't drinking 2 litres of coke and 2 cans of Red Bull a day. You're probably experiencing some caffeine withdrawal which might be contributing to the headaches and nausea.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/01/2025 09:31

It's the huge amount of sugar withdrawal for you, not the drug.

With that amount it's going to take a while to get back to health, your gut is going to be feeling pretty fragile.

susiedaisy1912 · 16/01/2025 09:32

Any new medication will give you unpleasant side effects for the first week or two. All you can do is follow the advice given, hydrate, rest, eat small and often, prioritise protein and let your body adjust to it. No need to jump up the dose strengths. It's your journey so tailor it to suit you. I'm on my tenth month on MJ, I've lost 60lbs and I'm still on 5mg dose.

KitsyWitsy · 16/01/2025 09:33

Go back to your old ways then? This isn’t the quick fix you hoped for and it still requires some persistence and resilience. If you don’t have that, then go back to your coke and red bull.

Mounjarry · 16/01/2025 09:35

It depends i suppose doesn't it. My BMI is just above 30 so for me the side effects aren't worth it (I seem to have reacted much worth than most); but if i did have a substantial amount of weight to lose on balance it would be worth it. It's a personal decision and I don't think there's an answer that will suit all.

InkHeart2024 · 16/01/2025 09:37

How do you think your gut was functioning processing all that sugar and shit you were eating? Most people don't have side effects for long but if you think your body was better off on your previous way of eating then you can return to it. However it seems to me you have more health problems than just obesity!

OK, so you were previously consuming 360mg of caffeine and 274g of sugar every day. I don't think you feel unwell simply because of the jab. You are in major caffeine and sugar withdrawal and I'm afraid regardless of whether you stay on the jabs the only way is just to push through it. Space out paracetamol and ibuprofen for the headaches. Keep drinking the water. Make yourself eat something small at each mealtime, eg soup. Only take ibuprofen with food as it's tough on your stomach lining.

Mounjarry · 16/01/2025 09:40

This isn't a bad thing imo, changing habits is a key element of MJ and fizzy drinks are terrible for you! You can't just carry on eating as you were just relying on feeling fuller faster. You have to make conscious decisions still on your nutrition to avoid constipation, muscle loss, stomach issues etc- its not a magic jab but a tool.

ThreeTescoBags · 16/01/2025 09:51

Sorry you're feeling grim, it's no fun especially when you have kids to look after.

I had some side effects for a couple of months when I first started, they did ease up fairly quickly and definitely were worse at the start of the week than towards the end.

My advice would be to stick with it for a while, give it 3 months and see where you get too, it's likely that you're also suffering from caffeine and sugar withdrawal which is brutal just itself.

I'd definitely say it's worth it, I've been taking it 7 months and I'm 4 stone down and a healthy weight is in sight. I think part of the problem is when you've dieted on and off for most of your life there's part of your brain that 'knows' whatever you're doing isn't going to work so why go through the hardship, you've been here before, why kid yourself right? It took me a long time for my brain to catch up with my body and realise that this does actually work. Other people can tell you it does but it doesn't hit the same as seeing your own results.

Give it some time and try and get a red bull down you, it's not the best but if it helps for now, then so be it.
