You've reached your goal weight - come chat about maintenance, not regaining, going cold turkey or titrating down

Would people who've hit their target weight be interested in a general thread on how they are getting on? You might be titrating your WLI down, you might be going cold turkey, you might be on a maintenance programme or you might have gone back on.

I used MJ for 5 months and I've hit my goal and I'm muddling through with my own version of "maintenance". I'm doing a 1.25 dose weekly to use up what I've got left and cut down gradually, so I don't lose all the benefits of MJ immediately. I was a complete lightweight and did the whole 5 months on just 2.5, as I had savage suppression and loss of appetite. So, I'm just halving my dosage.

I'd be interested to hear how others are getting on, given it all feels a bit new and the long-term aspects of weight maintenance are not yet much talked about.

@MargoLivebetter I hear you re the M&S cakes. My user name is from their custard choux buns although I am trying to rebrand myself to be French cabbage now as it’s much more nutritious!

@Blondeshavemorefun I know I can eat 1700 calories a day. I haven’t been logging food far ages, I don’t focus on being a bit more active. I just inject 10mg and get on with life. Can you see why I am still on 10mg?!?

I made a plan today which involves dropping to 7.5mg in a couple of weeks and then buying a 7.5mg pen. For the next few months I will be dosing lower doses from my current pens and keeping a prescription trail by buying the same dose pen as I am currently giving myself. I will get a 7.5mg and a 5mg and then reassess. I hope the local pharmacist who I am seeing tomorrow thinks this is a good plan (he will only know I currently have a 12.5 and a 10 and then plan to buy a 7.5 and a 5mg over the next couple of months.) I am also going to ask him what his policy is about stopping and then restarting if I put weight on. I still have high cholesterol so would qualify if I put 1.5 stone back on but it would be reassuring to know I could get a pen after 10 pounds or so if I couldn’t get it off myself.

Just checking back in. It's now been around 36 weeks since I stopped Mounjaro altogether at 8st 11.6lb and I am still 8st 3lb today.

Don't listen to those who want to say it's impossible to maintain afterwards, because it's not, as long as you make and maintain healthy changes.

MargoLivebetter · 01/09/2025 20:39

Great news @SnacklessWonder. Good to hear how well your maintenance is going.

Sounds like a good plan @Choux. I do miss the food silence, so I know where you coming from.

Well done @SnacklessWonder

do you find it a struggle ? Hungry lots ?

Tohaveandtohold · 01/09/2025 21:21

@SnacklessWonder it’s lovely to hear how you’re getting on as well. I was also on the jab for 20 weeks and I’ve been off the Jabs for 28 weeks. I finished the jabs at approx 10st 3lb and on Saturday, I weighed 9st 11 lb . I’ve been on holiday and gained some weight but I’ve lost what I gained this week as I believe it was just water weight. Glad with how maintenance is going overall

Mounraine · 01/09/2025 21:27

Thank you @MargoLivebetter Flowers

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2025 21:35

@Blondeshavemorefun No, the raging hunger that everyone said would come back didn't appear. Obviously I get hungry but it's no different than it was pre-MJ and I've got a lot more willpower now. I've completely changed how I eat too. I don't mind feeling hungry anymore, I think I've learned that it's okay to be hungry, it's normal!

@Tohaveandtohold Such a relief isn't it, to be able to manage and maintain.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/09/2025 21:36

yes That’s the thing. It’s fine to be hungry. To want food but to wait till the meal time

not snack /nibble

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/09/2025 22:08

I manage the hunger by eating like a baby 😂. Seriously, I aim to eat 2-3 hourly and spread my calories through the day. I have around 250 breakfast, 600 lunch, 600 dinner which leaves 500 for 2-3 snacks.
I dislike the overly full feelings which when I need to eat 1950 to maintain, means I can avoid that full to the point of painful hard bloated tummy.
I also know I can cope with the hunger if I need to. Like now, I'm on 1700 as I want to cut a little due to a hectic summer holidays with a wedding, honeymoon and so on. I'm at the top end of my comfort zone so I'd like a gradual loss to the lower end. So I'm cutting breakfast and waiting til 10am for my mid morning snack (banana and baby bel current go to!). Then eating as normal. This is so much more sustainable for me. I'm thrilled at the freedom it has all given me!

Choux · 01/09/2025 22:11

Some good maintenance going on there. @SnacklessWonder and @Tohaveandtohold you both weigh less now than when you stopped Mounjaro! I guess we all need to become snackless wonders holding our food but not having it just yet!

SnacklessWonder · 02/09/2025 07:39

@ThisMustBeMyDream I'm similar really, I've never been big on breakfast so I generally don't eat until 11-12 at which point I'll probably have lunch, sticking to around 300-400 calories max. I prefer to save my calories for my evening meal as it's my favourite meal! I'll probably have about 300 calories on snacks throughout the day as and when needed, but my maintenance calories are 1600 so I have to be mindful.

MargoLivebetter · 02/09/2025 08:14

Good strategy @SnacklessWonder . I think I am going to give it a try and end load my day more eating wise, as I'm definitely less hungry in the mornings and more hungry in the evenings.

I think we get too focussed on WE MUST EAT THREE MEALS A DAY. When it really doesn't matter. Some people eat two larger meals, some people prefer 4-6 smaller plates a day. I say do what works for you!

When I was on holiday this summer at an All Inclusive, I didn't have breakfast most days because I don't eat breakfast at home - why would I go and have a massive breakfast just because I am on holiday! Makes no sense to me. I don't see any point in eating if you're not actually hungry.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 02/09/2025 10:45

I agree @SnacklessWonder. I have learned to listen to my body. It has changed post saxenda. I looked back at my MFP log for this time last year when I was on 1300 cals and honestly don't know how I was doing it! I was having 2 meals and an evening snack. But it must have been the medication making that so much easier to live like. 18 months of living like that, only increasing to 1500 towards the last couple of months as I was almost at target.
Now I've been off meds since early July, the raging hunger hasn't returned, but I am aware of hunger. I can cope with it just fine as I actually prefer it to that overly full feeling! My body does not thank me for over eating!
So yes, listening to my needs now - a small (or no!) breakfast, a moderate lunch and a decent dinner, with smaller snacks 3 times a day works for me!

ShaunaSadeki · 02/09/2025 20:43

I definitely prefer eating later in the day.
I am trying to eat only what I really want and only when properly hungry.

I am a couple of kilos up so just done a Vinted splurge on teeny sized winter clothes for an upcoming work trip to keep me focussed

Sadteacher · 03/09/2025 07:20

Can you start a new thread @MargoLivebetter ?

Thanks to everyone posting. It shows how different maintenance is going to be for everyone.

Saeurcat · 04/09/2025 16:45

I switched from MedExpress to cloud pharmacy for maintenance.

So far so good! Lots of flexibility and no insistence on having me send my medical records to them!

Sorry jumping on an older thread but looking forward some advice around maintenance with cloud. Can you tell me a little around your experience please? Do they allow you to remain in the books so to speak if you order at least once a year etc? Thanks
