You've reached your goal weight - come chat about maintenance, not regaining, going cold turkey or titrating down

Would people who've hit their target weight be interested in a general thread on how they are getting on? You might be titrating your WLI down, you might be going cold turkey, you might be on a maintenance programme or you might have gone back on.

I used MJ for 5 months and I've hit my goal and I'm muddling through with my own version of "maintenance". I'm doing a 1.25 dose weekly to use up what I've got left and cut down gradually, so I don't lose all the benefits of MJ immediately. I was a complete lightweight and did the whole 5 months on just 2.5, as I had savage suppression and loss of appetite. So, I'm just halving my dosage.

I'd be interested to hear how others are getting on, given it all feels a bit new and the long-term aspects of weight maintenance are not yet much talked about.

@Fromthesidelines – strangely enough, I started feeling very nauseous once I went up to 15mg and a couple of times was actually sick. My sense of smell also went haywire and I struggled with the smell of the dog’s food and fresh liver (for the spoilt mutt). Since moving down, I’ve been fine.

That’s me just finished a week proper of maintaining and logging everything on MFP. And I’ve lost 0.2lbs lol. I’m definitely starting to feel hungry, but I’m feeling more confident that I can cope/manage. I’m seeing a nutritionist to help me make this transition. Her advice is to make sure the meals that I am eating have plenty of protein and some good fats to make me feel full and to keep my blood sugars steady.

I would hope that Mounjaro or other GLPs will become available to me on the NHS in time. Perhaps when they develop a tablet form, which will make storage and manufacture much cheaper.

Metformin is generic so it's cheap. I will say that the gut disturbance side effects of metformin, especially when I first started on it, were far worse than any I experienced on mounjaro. My GP had told me that the next prescription options for managing my type 2 diabetes would have caused weight gain as a side effect. This was part of the reason why I decided to try mounjaro, when the metformin even at maximum dosage was no longer keeping my blood sugars under control. I was already (and continue to be) on a low carb diet.

Hi I read yesterday that the NICE guidelines are changing for T2D, and the SGLT2 inhibitors (like Forxiga (dapaglaflozin) are going to be recommended as 2nd add on to metformin or as 1st choice if met isn’t tolerated. These don’t cause weight gain (the kidneys just pee out any raised blood sugar). And they have CV benefits, too.

Well done @Tarragon123 . That sounds like a really good start to the maintenance stage.

Another week maintained here too. I was bang on goal weight when I weighed this morning. I'm also over a calendar year now since I first took MJ. Still can't quite believe the transformation to my life.

Just watched a video of Serena Williams discussing her GLP1 journey. Very interesting stuff.

I very rarely post on here anymore but I just wanted to say thank you for all the posts, they've been massively helpful. I'm just over halfway to target and stupidly assumed I would just stay on mounjaro forever but the recent price increases have made me rethink. I think I should hit target around the end of December so I'm going to use these next few months to start counting my calories, making sure my diet's got enough protein in it and focusing on getting my steps in which hopefully will stand me in good stead for the new year.

I'm currently on 7.5mg but due to holidays, weddings etc. where I didn't want to risk being ill, I've already moved to injecting every 10 days and I'm still losing so I'm going to continue with this. I'm also going to attempt the golden dose which will push me further past the 30 days (I currently go 1 day over injecting every 10 days) but I think this will be good to see how that goes and how I might get on for spreading out the titration maintenance doses. I was lucky enough to get 2 10mg pens before everywhere went out of stock which should take me up to end of December and I'm currently debating whether to order a couple of 12.5mg pens when I'm nearly at goal and then do the click method to titrate down but this will mean going way past the 30 days so I will see how I feel nearer the time.

But thanks again everyone for sharing your experiences.

I was due to take another 5mg yesterday, but I was ok, so I decided to delay. I’ll see if I can manage until Monday. Still logging, still needing to up my protein. As a non meat eater with a lactose intolerance, its tricky!

EBoo80 · 23/08/2025 20:13

@Tarragon123 have a look at SophsPlantKitchen on insta. She has a cook book but I’ve just taken her high protein vegan meal ideas from her Insta and find them great. I’m veggie but not vegan but she makes it look easy!

Thank you so much for that! I will be making Sunset Cauliflower for sure! Looks amazing.

ShaunaSadeki · 25/08/2025 09:43

I’m vegan and need loads of protein and resort to protein shakes and fake meat more often than I think is ideal. So thanks for posting that instagram account @EBoo80, the food looks amazing!

Im still maintaining fine although been pretty hungry/greedy this week and my exercise schedule has gone out of the window post festival last weekend. So I really need to get myself sorted for both food and exercise this week before things start slipping and old habits creep back in too much.

This is a vegan protein. I'm also lactose intolerant.

Hi all , I am looking for advice . Have been at goal for 3 months with 10 mg. Tried to go down to 7.5 mg to slowly reduce but was really ill. Missed 7.5 mg all together and now on 5mg , how long would you take to slowly go down on each dose ? Anyone slowly gone down and lost or maintained ?

Thanks in advance

MargoLivebetter · 28/08/2025 10:12

I don't think there is a right answer @Tinydancer123 . How are you feeling on 5mg? Are you looking to lose more or just stay where you are now?

I am wishing to maintain. No plans to lose anymore although I do take comments onboard about being a little under to have a buffer ! I am bang on target. 5mg feels fine -7.5 was horrid. I guess do 4 weeks see how I go ?

I only ever went up to 5mg, but I did a final month at 2.5mg and then stopped.

Sadteacher · 28/08/2025 12:48

I have just finished my last pen. It was a 7.5.
I finished officially in April on a12.5 pen. I bought two 7.5 pens with Oushk on the taper plan.
i took one pen in May after about 5 weeks off. ( and after a holiday weight gain)
I took my last one when I got back from holiday end of July. I was 7lb heavier than April at this point. As I’d had another few weeks off I took 3mg, then 4 and then the full doses.
I am now 2lbs more than when I first stopped. I have a new fitness regime and no more holidays booked. I figure my biggest hurdle will be Christmas so need a plan for that.
I would happily appeal to get a pen again if needed though most of my history is with medexpress. Fingers crossed my increased activity levels will help keep it off.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2025 13:20

For those who uses juniper - are you going to cancel once get the first reduced by £75 pen

if so how do you cancel ?

Bobbinsbop · 28/08/2025 22:12

Hi everyone
i have boon on Mounjaro since october last year- lost 5 stone and been maintaining for around 10weeks using 2.5 mg.
With all the price hike news i am now now on mj. I am only 3 days past my normal injection day and so hungry and panicking that i am going to regain.
I am also going through a lot of stress and am an emotional eater.
should this settle down? I have a chronic illness and am waiting for a hernia operation so exercise that i can do is more limited.

i think the fear of gaining and maintaining without my safety net it stressing me more which is making me want to eat more and i'm in a vicious cycle.

I'm just looking for so reassurance from those who have been off it a while.

gimmemounjaro · 28/08/2025 22:39

I am not there yet myself @Bobbinsbop but I’m sure I’ve seen people say that the hunger came roaring back at first but then calmed down. Hopefully someone with firsthand experience will come and describe exactly that. Hang in there.

In the meantime just think that what you’re going through right now is to be expected. It doesn’t mean that everything is going wrong for you. Expect the hunger and the urges and recognise them, let them come and go, don’t beat yourself up, it’s all normal and you can get through it. In any case, it takes more than 3 days for MJ to leave your system so it’s still in there doing its thing. Try not to worry and panic.

Tohaveandtohold · 28/08/2025 22:59

@Bobbinsbop I’ve been off the Jab for 6.5 months now. For the first 2 weeks after the jabs, I could feel the hunger pangs and after , it was just as if I got used to it. It wasn’t as pronounced anymore and now it’s just routine.
When the hunger came when I just stopped, I made sure I had lots of fruits, veggies and healthy ( low calorie) snacks in the house in case I want to grab something but I was drinking water first before eating anything in case I’m just confusing thirst with hunger so I can stretch my eating time.
However with time, it became routine because I got used to the hunger. I exercise at home 5 days a week and tried to keep the good habits I had whilst on the jab, still high protein and less carbs diet and I snack on healthy things.
I initially gained 2lbs but I’ve gone on to lose another 8lbs without the jab

MargoLivebetter · 29/08/2025 08:55

hello @Bobbinsbop welcome to this next stage. I know it is easier said, than done, but try not to panic, as that won't help. I've been completely off MJ for about 6 months now and I'm the same weight as I was then. I think the first couple of weeks were the most tricky but just be patient and keep saying to yourself that you can do this.

I'm also an emotional eater and while I was on MJ I had to find ways of dealing with those emotions, as I couldn't eat them away. I'm not completely cured but I'm much better at allowing the feelings to come through, rather than trying to shove them down with buttery toast and jam!

It sounds like you have lots going on at the moment. That is stressful so you need to be really kind to yourself. We all know that being kind doesn't involve eating cakes / biscuits / toast / chocolate or whatever your 'food crack' of choice might be. That's just habit and some weird notion that we all developed that those kind of foods are "treats". But they really aren't

When I'm agitated now from some difficult emotion and find myself wandering to the kitchen I have a number of tactics to deploy, rather than eat something. My tactics will be different to other people's but you are basically trying to make new habits and ways of dealing with emotions that have nothing to do with food.

Also, keep eating plenty of protein as it really does help keep you full. The difference it has made to me, ensuring I get about 30g of protein per meal is massive. I wish I'd properly understood that years ago!

That sounds really good @Sadteacher . I think Christmas will be challenging too. 😬

No idea @Blondeshavemorefun but if it is a subscription then there must be a way of cancelling it. Is it direct debit or something like that?

@Bobbinsbop I suspect for many of us our eating is linked to our emotions. I spent every minute thinking about losing weight before mj, every minute on the jabs thinking about what a miracle it was, now every minute thinking about maintaining 😂
I read these threads every day, not sure if that is unhealthy or motivating! You are not alone, there is a lot of support here.

Tomorrow it will be 10 weeks since my last MJ jab! I’m the exact same weight today as I was the day of my last jab although there has been a bit of fluctuation.
BMI is 22.9. Body fat 26.7 and muscle rate 68.8%.
whilst I hadn’t intended to come off it cold turkey I’m quite relieved to have come off and maintained my weight before these repricing price hikes. I wouldn’t be able to afford the new pricing 😢
