Do any providers under 25 bmi?

Say you are BMI 24.9 or 25.5 etc and hold weight around the middle, are there providers who ignore the over 27 BMI rule? Or do you just have to lie?

OP posts:

I'd take it if I were a normal weight if it controls appetite/cravings/excessive snacking/binging.

I think it's down to the individual. There's hundreds of adverts for the compounded version and Americans have been using that as opposed to the KwikPens.

Well it certainly wasn’t developed for slim people who want to be thinner. It’s a drug with side effects, some of them serious, and I wouldn’t want to be on it if I was a normal weight.

The drugs use in obesity was never anything to do with cosmetics. It's approval was about lowering risks of diseases associated with obesity.

The OP described a family member with high levels of visceral fat which increases your risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Also while obesity ( based on BMI which is at best a crude measure for risk) is a large risk factor for these diseases there are many others including things like high visceral fate and genetics. So if this individual had various family members with T2 diabetes and heart disease alongside high visceral fat they may make an educated decision to take the drug.

You dismissing the needs of someone as they have a lower BMI is as dismissive as the people who come on threads to say well why don't you just eat less and move more?

To be clear I'm not advocating lying to get a prescription drug but the expansion of the use of this class of drugs is not something I am opposed to.

The fda has already issued a warning about that, as did the manufacturers, it is unsafe. Just as someone messes with it and advertises it, doesn’t mean it’s safe to take. And once the fda step in and say don’t take them, I’d personally listen if I was in the USA.

macap · 09/01/2025 08:17

A part of me thinks the manufacturer also wants the monopoly on the active ingredient to maximise profits/money but that isn't really shocking given pharma.

I feel sorry for people in America, they are paying a fortune, much more than us for the same product.

Well yes they are all patented. So mounjaro I think is mid 2030s it expires, but ozempic/wegovy is next year. However 8 more drugs completing final trials and a pill format in development.

however the fda do not step in and say it’s unsafe to help pharma make money,

macap · 09/01/2025 08:19

The compounding pharmacies were state licensed pharmacies so I don't get why they would be unsafe?

Unless the FDA were talking about the unlicensed ones producing it? If so that's no different to what some scrupulous people are doing here too. I keep seeing ads for it.

You can google this, it is due to the compounds/salts being used.

It’s mad isn’t it that the food industry do everything they can to make us buy and eat more food, so we develop addictions and obesity, and then along come the pharma industry to sell us drugs to overcome that.

I still think I'd be using the compound type if I was in America and couldn't afford the £££ for Mounjaro.

I know some people from Reddit actually pay to have their Tirzepatide tested/analysed to ensure the purity of what they are getting.

I guess we all have different tolerances to risk. I absolutely would not take drugs that have been messed about with , not tested correctly and the fda are saying are a risk to life.

macap · 09/01/2025 10:10

I'm perplexed as to how the FDA can give state pharmacies the go ahead to make compound Tirz but in the same breath tell people they're unsafe and a risk to life.

I think people would be surprised at just how many people are accessing compounded versions of the peptide, even in this country.

Don't think I would dare personally as we don't actually have compound pharmacies here that I'm aware of..

I can sympathise with people not being able to afford this drug though. It has quite literally been a game changer for lots of people.

PiggyPigalle · 09/01/2025 10:26

You OP, would be better going to a gym and taking advice from a personal trainer and toning up if you have some fat around your middle.

Fat jabs aren't "easier" as your diet still has to be geared toward protein and not carbs. Otherwise with rapid weight loss you would be losing muscle and bone density. At a BMI of 25, your face would suffer weight loss too.

Council gym and a trainer would likely cost less money as well. If you don't have time for the gym, try You Tube.

Honestly, just take some time to google and read up on it. It would save you feeling perplexed and confused.

macap · 09/01/2025 11:08

Already did, thanks. Can see there was some concern about what additives were being used but in the whole it seems like most pharmacies do have safety standards that they work by. It also says that they have been a big help to those unable to afford Eli prices or help people whose insurance will not cover GLP meds.

Redlightbulb · 09/01/2025 11:44

I was on Tiktok last night and there was a live with 200 people watching.
The person was openly selling compounded Ozempic & MJ in the UK!
It was in powder form that you added water to and came with a pen that looked very similar to the MJ Kwikpen but could be indefinitely re-used. It came with printed instructions telling people how many clicks to do, alcohol wipes & needles.
You couldn't buy the product on the TikTok shop but there was of course a Whatsapp no that you were to contact if interested.
I was horrified.
Don't get any ideas OP.

God, so many fakes and dodgy product going round, the fda are reporting all deaths in the USA are down to fakes and reckless usage. It is shocking what some people will take. And that supplier will have people buying and injecting themselves.

ILoveAnnaQuay · 09/01/2025 11:59

I can't understand why someone would inject themselves with a compound they've mixed themselves in non laboratory conditions.

I have a prescription from my GP. I'm not sure I would even risk a private online GP if my NHS one didn't prescribe, let alone go down a DIY route.

You will have to lie. I do know people who do it, not sure they actually need to but I suppose it's up to them.
