Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

@PinkArt I'm no longer morbidly obese! I hadn't even thought that it might actually change my colour on the BMI chart - it was just a round number in my head!

JusteanBiscuits · 24/12/2024 16:28

But the bullet a few days ago and excitedly ordered a dress for boxing day family thing in a size down. It's arrived - and is massive!!! Ive never bought anything from white stuff before, and they obviously run large, but it doesn't flatter at all :(

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/12/2024 16:35

My blood test kit has arrived (requirement for SheMed) I will do this on the 2nd so hope to jab on the 10th!! Feels ages away but tbh it's takem a whole to get to this point!

I've always wondered how you do a self test blood test. What does it involve?

Good luck when you get to that point.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/12/2024 23:30

I did them around covid time and you used to have to prick your finger and dribble out some blood into a small vial.

This one is a bit fancy and you clip it to your arm somehow and it sort of comes out. It's a tasso one I've attached a picture.

You scan the barcode when you're ready and they help you do it which is impressive! There's a warm thing in the pack to earn your arm too..

But I can't do it till the 2nd and I'm trying not to think there might be some problem so I can't continue!

Good morning everyone, hope you all had a lovely stress free day yesterday. I think I ate around a third of what I would normally eat and I ate less than my 8 stone 36 year old daughter!
I still indulged, had a very small portion of Christmas pud and literally a 1cm sliver of cheesecake. Had 5 chocolates, no alcohol and a tiny bit of Wensleydale on a sourdough cracker, no doubt I went over my calories but I felt totally in control.
doing it all over again today though…

Doggymummar · 26/12/2024 09:26

I just had Christmas dinner and pudding. Not much at all. Bit of Bailey's in A coffee and didn't drink anything else. I am so bloated and I comfortable today. Have just taken two laxatives. Need to drink plenty of water, according to the scales I am up 5lb which I know won't be right but will be dehydration. Try to do three litres today and see if it helps.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 26/12/2024 14:45

So my random musings today. Lots of the literature seems to say "up to 25%" weight loss after 72 weeks.

I need to lose 50%. I'll. Still be morbidly obese at 25%.

It is possible isn't it??

Yes it is possible! I'm the same, need to lose almost 50% of my starting weight

SilenceInside · 26/12/2024 15:05

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I've already lost 29% of my starting weight and I'm still going. That 25% figure is the average weight loss from the clinical trials, not a limit.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 26/12/2024 15:09

Wow Silence that is fantastic! What dose are you up to?

Thankyou yes am average would make sense. It's the "up to" that threw me. I'm itching to get going and keep getting anxious about starting!

Doggymummar · 26/12/2024 15:13

I started at 250lb and am aiming for about 120, currently at about 190

SilenceInside · 26/12/2024 15:14

The providers won't want to make claims that aren't backed up by the research trials, hence using that figure. But plenty in the trials will have lost more whilst some will have lost les.

I'm on 7.5mg and have been for at least 12 weeks now. I'm going to stick at that level for another pen at least, unless the suppression stops being effective.

Kay2000 · 26/12/2024 23:29

Hi everyone. First post on Mumsnet for years but it seems a good place to discuss weight loss jabs. I never really lost my pregnancy weight and have gained weight steadily since until I’m 22 stones, BMI 53. I’ve been thinking of trying the injections for a few months but am scared of the side effects as I have a 30 year history of chronic pain and fatigue and now have severe osteoarthritis including cervical spondylosis which is currently the worst thing. My son (now 24, how??!) said just try it, if you don’t like it you don’t have to continue, but what if it helps you and you never knew. So I’ve ordered Mounjaro from Asda, still need to send photos in tomorrow. Discussed it with my GP whose sister has lost 7 stone and had a knee replacement although my GP said she personally didn’t want it as her sister has lost enjoyment of food and has to force herself to eat. However I have little enjoyment of life currently. At the age of 56 I’m pretty much housebound by pain and have the usual problems of being 22 stone. So I’ll dip in here and list my (hopeful) weight loss. I think I’ll try just cutting snacks and unnecessary food and lean towards low carb as that’s what has worked a bit in the past (think SW “red days”). I can calorie count if I need to but I tend to loose the will to live counting everything I eat!

2025istheyear · 27/12/2024 06:35

Mounjaro has been a real help for me. Side effects are easily managed. Good you have your GP’s support. I have an ANP at out surgery helping me (I have hashimotos so my thyroid levels need monitoring more closely).

My advice don’t eat late at night lying in bed after eating causes reflux. I do suffer from GERD on and off because of my Hashimotos but Omeprozole has completely cured my flare up of GERD after taking MJ.

Certain foods make me feel nauseous. Bread mainly.

I will calorie count in the New Year.

Swimming or just being mobile submerged in the pool really helps with all the pain you feel from your conditions. Is this something you could do?

I started at 19 stone 11 and 6 weeks later I am 18 stone 3. Have eaten and drank alcohol most of December just much less. In January I will purge all the Xmas food left over (give it to my Mum and Dad) and use My Net Diary to calorie count and keep to under 1500 calories.

MJ makes me feel like a normal person around food and drink.

BookishBabe · 27/12/2024 08:47

I've had what i wanted these past few days. But my portions have been around 60% smaller than usual, without me trying to limit at all.
No snacking and the dessert was barely touched by me.
DH is wanting to lose some weight (I think he should eat healthier in for his health). So he's agreed to make better choices from Monday, which will make it even easier for me.
Broccoli and chicken next week 😋

@Kay2000 I hope mounjaro works for you. My own side effects have been minimal.

My experience of mounjaro so far (6 weeks in) is that I feel less impulsive around food.

Over Christmas my portion size has been 50% of what it would normally be. My sweet/chocolate intake has been one After Eight mint. None of this has taken any effort on my part.

Morning, thanks for your reply. Yes I’m a member of a local gym and use the pool although since my neck kicked off doing any meaningful swimming is out. GP said her sister did her steps in the pool so I’m going to try that, it’s a small pool and ideal for walking in. You’re doing really well - I’m dreaming of getting under 19 stone! Even a stone weight loss is more than I’ve managed in 10 years, I got to a point where WW etc didn’t work and I just thought f** it. But I recognise my life would be easier if I wasn’t carrying so much weight and I’ll be so much healthier.

That sounds miraculous! I hope I can get to that point. My willpower has gone, too many years of feeling guilty about what I eat, trying to diet and finally giving up. But I’m ready to try something new.

Kay2000 · 27/12/2024 12:31

Just done my photos. OMG. I usually avoid looking at myself, I am so so so fat, why did I let myself get like this 😬. Onwards and upwards as my school motto said (Onwards and Downwards hopefully 😂). Thoroughly depressing photos. Anyone else like me? I think I see and think of myself as I was when I was younger and thinner. In my head I think I’m around 12, 13 stone and it’s a terrible shock when I see myself in photos (hence I avoid them). I’m setting up a health journal to document my progress and I will include photos so I can see progress.

JusteanBiscuits · 27/12/2024 12:54

I am SO fed up with local gyms and pools. Who on earth wants to go swimming at 9pm?! And gyms with a pool start at £125 a month!

Very wise words from your son! I personally haven’t lost any enjoyment from food, I think if anything I enjoy it more rather than mindlessly eating it, it makes me think more about what I really want to eat. I don’t calorie count, I may have to in the future but I know roughly what the calories are and I just can’t be doing with the measuring and weighing of everything I cook.
I also have cervical spondylosis but it’s manageable, pins and needles in lower arms and hands is a pain, painful hips and knees has drastically improved which is a bonus.
my side effects have been minimal, just constipation but there is no way that is going to stop me taking this miracle drug - good luck!

2025istheyear · 27/12/2024 14:29

@Iwouldratherbesinging it is a miracle drug. I agree. Even if the weight loss slows it is a miracle that I no longer feel controlled by food!

I was the one who had to go to the shop if I was having dinner and something I thought I needed to pair it with was missing. Now I think sod it and I’ll eat what is available. The OCD around food has gone for me. The weight-loss inn-effect is a side effect of the main mind changing event. Hard to describe but miracle drug sums it up.
