Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Wow well done! The clapping hands emoji says "thanks" when you click it but I meant well done!

I've now signed up to a pharmacy and will be starting in the new year. I'm a bit anxious about side effects but glad I made the decision.

Im around 21.5 stone and could do with posting half my weight so we will see....

PinkArt · 20/12/2024 23:19

I'm officially down to what I weighed last Christmas as of today 🥳 If this Christmas doesn't go to shit then I'm hopefully just a few weeks off 'just' being obese again.

GnomeDePlume · 21/12/2024 08:32

Well done for making the leap @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden .

NotOlive · 21/12/2024 17:46

Had my second jab on Thursday. I don’t think it’s working yet. 🥲Put a pound on in the first week, probably because I had some social events where there was sweet stuff I don’t normally eat (I just normally overeat the savoury stuff!).

I sometimes think the food noise is reducing. sometimes I think I’m just willing it to reduce!

Well done, your post made me check. I am 12lb down on last Christmas that feels good.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/12/2024 22:25

I'm starting (all being well) MJ in January.

I'm so very overweight though this evening I've got a but overwhelmed.

I was hoping by the summer I might look different but even if I lose well I've realised if I lose say 5 stone all year I wi still be morbidly obese and at the weight most people start on.

I thought I'd post here as after my initial excitement at smaller clothes and being able to move well and everything - I realised how long this will take. It probably won't be visible in summer and even after a year I'll still be morbidly obese.

I'm 10 stone overweight. Just thought some here might relate to the feelings 😢.

Doggymummar · 22/12/2024 22:38

I've been on since March 23, nearly two years now. You just have to keep going lovely. I imagine I will need another six months, not sure. Aiming for 100lb off initially.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/12/2024 22:42

Wow well done!! Nearly 2 years is fab.

Its going to be a long haul isn't it.

Ibe read lots of success stories but it's hit me realising even the first year might not make a huge difference.

It will be worth it. I'm scared of side effects and I guess I'll need to celebrate small wins!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 22/12/2024 23:04

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, you’ve made that first step, you will feel amazing, proud of what you can do and it will be so worth it and it will make a huge difference, I’ve been there. I remember at my highest weight of 21.5 stone being totally overwhelmed, I started out with 5:2 fasting, then I remember the elation of seeing 2lbs disappear each week on the scales, then all of a sudden three stone had gone, one stand out memory was in the shower one morning, I bent over to shave my legs and didn’t have to hold my breath whilst bending over and thought ‘oh wow!’. I was 18.5 stone then, and I felt good. That may be an odd thought for people who weigh a lot less but for me it was the best feeling.
I fell off the 5:2 fasting wagon and gained some weight but started on MJ at 19st 2lb am now 17st 6lbs and feel elated, you can do this, it’s exciting knowing that I have this weight loss journey ahead of me.
Not everyone gets side effects, my only issue is constipation and through trial and error I’ve figured out how to manage it. And you have us all cheerleading you on!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/12/2024 23:08

Thankyou so much. Yes I'm starting about 21 stone 7. I need to weight to check as it's probably a bit more...

I'm so grateful that youre all here and doing it.

I have to pass a blood test to do it and the enormity of 10stone is hitting me 😬

SilenceInside · 22/12/2024 23:20

Hey @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I felt very similarly daunted at the start. I was about 12 stone overweight at 22 stone when I started at the beginning of July. I've lost just over 6 stone so I have lost half the weight I need to. It has made a huge difference and it is very noticeable. Even though I am still, just, in the Obesity 2 category as my BMI is still just a touch over 35. I can move easily, walk as far as I want to without having to stop and rest. My feet aren't swollen all the time, my blood pressure is now well controlled and in the optimal range (I take medication for essential high BP but losing weight has made it easier to manage). I can now buy clothes from high street shops and not have to order things in sizes that aren't usually kept in stock. My face isn't massively round and my chin and cheekbones have reappeared! So many improvements in my life, even just my mood has improved beyond measure as I feel hope and excitement for the future.

So, each week you'll be heading in the right direction even if you have a week where you stay the same or even have a gain. The overall trend will be downwards and progressing towards your goals. By the summer you will honestly notice the difference and feel so much better.

I'm still at a weight that most people start at, but I've got used to that! I tend to stick to the > 5 and > 10 stone to lose threads if I'm feeling grumpy about it.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 22/12/2024 23:25

Oh wow I'm going to screenshot your post for encouragement. And yes that all sounds good. I've gradually got more and more less mobile and each stone I lose will be towards my goal.

PinkArt · 23/12/2024 01:58

You aren't losing 10 stone though @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, you're losing three pounds, one point five pounds, two pounds... and onwards and downwards.
Take it one smaller goal at a time. I started in the 19s and my first goal is to be back in 17s. Perhaps your first could be to be back in the teens?
Remember the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 23/12/2024 06:07

I totally understand @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden . I started in September feeling exactly the same. 3 months in and I've lost nearly 2.5 stone. Yes I'm still over 20 stone, I have absolutely loads of weight to go and this will be a long journey, but I already feel and look so much better than I did at 23 stone.

The enormity of what we're facing is significant but we can do it, it will just take time. MJ is the first time ive ever felt that I can keep going until I lose the weight I need to.

I'm close to 20 stone now, and my next target if getting my BMI under 40, that feels like a big mental step for me.

My advice would be just to get started and don't overthink it. And stick to the threads for people with more to lose.

BookishBabe · 23/12/2024 06:54

Weigh day today.
I've put on a pound!!!!

I calorie counted Monday to Thursday last week.
But we've had breakfast with santa and things and I've had some hot chocolates and some christmassy bits, but I have definitely been under my TDEE by quite a bit, so I think it might just be some water retention or something.
Still a bit gutted, but onwards and upwards.

Thankyou all. I'll be properly joining you all in the new year and really appreciate the support for my wobble. This is why this threas is so needed isn't it.

I'm going to read it all through properly x

GnomeDePlume · 23/12/2024 08:33

@BookishBabe another way of thinking is that it is 'only a pound'. Your next weigh in will be after Christmas. The worst in terms of temptation will be behind you.

How many times in the past have you avoided even going near the scales in the run up to Christmas?

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I will echo other PPs. It's all about the small wins. The first step is weight not going up.

There are lots of non scalable wins. The first time you do something and realise you did it without thinking about it - going back upstairs to pick something up you had forgotten without thinking 'I'll do that later'.

I'm down a stone 21.5 to 20.5. I was having a shower the other morning, washing my face and thought 'cheekbones, where did they come from?'

Doggymummar · 23/12/2024 09:35

It's really not unusual to have little gains @BookishBabe . Last year I stopped medication over Christmas and gained 10lb. I didn't start again until March and it's taken me all year to lose that weight. So in The scheme of things, you are doing great. Don't be disappointed, be grateful it's not more and carry on chugging the water 🌊 💦 🌊 💦 🌊 💦 🌊

MoreThanJustANumber · 23/12/2024 10:59

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I completely identify with how you're feeling. That's how I felt but it was my last hope after years of every single diet in existence. I've been taking MJ since March this year, my starting weight was only half a stone less than yours and I knew the journey was going to be really long. I hardly lost anything the first month, but what amazed me was after 2.5 weeks I suddenly stopped thinking about food all the time. It was revolutionary, I honestly think that I'd want to continue taking this even if I wasn't losing weight because losing the food noise is amazing. I didn't realise that everyone didn't think about food constantly!
There were odd weeks when I put on half a pound or a pound, normally because I'd eaten too many carbs and it was probably water retention. It soon goes.
I started to notice a few changes after a couple of months, the biggest win was being able to walk without back pain – I've not been pain free when walking for about five years. I've now lost five stone six pounds, and finally fit in smaller clothes, only two sizes smaller but I think I was wearing very baggy styles before and they fitted me a bit too snuggly!
I love all the little things that happen along the way, I can get in and out of the bath easily (hadn't been able to have a bath for years), can paint my toenails without having to contort my leg at a really weird angle, and something that might be TMI and I've not seen mentioned, but much easier to wipe my bum!!
I've been lucky and had very few side effects, mild constipation here and there and one instance of sulphur burps which were vile but didn't last long. I can't think of any downsides. Suspect I'll have to take this for life but as long as I can afford it that's what I intend to do.
Good luck, keep us posted on your progress. One step at a time. x

Grumpyoldthing · 23/12/2024 11:15

Well interestingly the doctors have just phoned ( 8 days later ) and offered me a face to face appointment on Monday. This a great as it aligns with pay day , so if no joy there I can order straight away

WafflingDreamer · 24/12/2024 06:58

Hope it's OK if I join you guys

Jab 12 done yesterday so far;
3x2.5mg
5x3.75mg
4x5mg

Weigh in number 11
SW 21st 9lb
CW 19st 8lb
GW 11st 13lb
1lb off this week
losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1
So a total of 29lbs/2st 1lb

I'm already finding it quite tough with all the extra food around and doing a lot less exercise than I do when the kids are at school. I'm not hungry but the odd mince pie, chocolate, crisps, hot chocolate have been sneaking in.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 24/12/2024 07:36

weigh day for me, 1.8 lbs off this week, next jab due the day after Boxing Day. Haven’t had a 💩 for 4 days, don’t feel uncomfortable, I think this may be my new normal!
Was hoping to hit a 2 stone loss by new year but I think I’m over reaching a bit too much, that’s 2.5 lbs away.
@BookishBabe don’t be too despondent (easy for others to say I know), it’s probably fluid retention, I’ve got into the habit of weighing daily but only record it on a Tuesday and I fluctuate but overall it’s a downward trend. Do you record it on an app at all? It’s really encouraging to see the trend and future forecasts.
Hi @WafflingDreamer, we seem to be hanging out on the same threads 😊.

@MoreThanJustANumber not TMI at all, I know exactly what you mean, and don’t forget reaching places to wash in the shower is easier too 😂

happy Christmas Eve everyone!

JusteanBiscuits · 24/12/2024 10:27

4.2lb loss this week. Took my BMI under 40! My average loss over my whole spreadsheet is 2.1lb a week which is what my consultant wanted me to aim for. Slower than some, but this week I really seemed to notice the weight loss more. Now shopping (online) for a new years eve dress that will show the loss off a bit :) :)

JusteanBiscuits · 24/12/2024 10:29

Getting BMI under 40 was my first mini goal. My next mini goal is 10lb away and is feeling doable!

PinkArt · 24/12/2024 13:08

Congrats @JusteanBiscuits . I think I'm about 3 pounds off 'just obese' now and can almost see it on the horizon - that's a great milestone to hit.
