Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Hi
Can I join?
I'm a lapsed MNer from olden times - although I still lurk sometimes. I've resurrected this name from the last time I did weight loss threads when a group of us were being hypnotised by Paul McKenna way back in 2011. Needless to say it didn't work and I'm way heavier now.

I took the plunge and had my first injection on Thursday. I'd been waiting for a referral to NHS weight management services. They told me to chase at the end of November if I hadn't heard anything and when I did that I was informed I wouldn't be seen until May at the earliest. So I decided to order my first dose

I'm not sure it it's working really. I think I'm eating less but I think that may be because I want it to work, IYSWIM. Thankfully no side effects so far.

Starting Weight 22 stone 11. I have already lost a couple of stone in the last couple of years but really really slow progress.
Height 5 ft 4 inches
BMI: nearly 55

My initial target weight is 16.5 stone, BMI 40. I have severe arthritis and have been told I can't have knee replacements due to high BMI. The consultant tried to be as kind as possible but insisted that the risks of infection were too high if BMI was over 40.

I just feel like my life if on hold because I am so immobile - I turn down social activities which involve lots of standing and walking. And I want to travel but it's pointless if I struggle to get around.

I'm in my late 50s and have struggled all my life with my weight. This feels like last chance saloon.

Morning Everyone 🌄

Weigh day this morning!

My start weight 2 weeks ago was 27st 7lbs.
Last Monday I was 26st 11lbs, so I'd lost 10lbs.

Today, drumroll 🥁

26st 2lbs! Another 9lbs gone.
Okay, I've had the flu and had some sickness and diarrhea because of that. But still.
19lbs gone in 2 weeks!

Oh my! What a confidence boost, you must feel like you are walking on air! Well done you

Iwouldratherbesinging · 16/12/2024 12:59

@Lobsterteapot see you after Christmas!
hi @NotOlive, I’m also late fifties, thought I was 5ft 4, but I’m 5ft 2.5 (that .5 is important 😁) At my highest I was 21.5 stone, lost some with 5:2 fasting, then gained some, started MJ at 19st 2lbs, so we are fairly similar. I have issues with my hips and left knee (arthritis) and have already felt a big difference, so fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for the welcome. I think I’m shrinking too as I get older. But I had shoes with thick soles the last time I was seen by a nurse so I’m sticking with 5”4. I figured that otherwise I’d need to lose extra lbs to get down to that 40 BMI target.

I have been absolutely starving for 2 days now.
It feels like I've got a big, empty hole between my belly button and sternum! I stayed within my calories yesterday, but honestly, even after eating the hole felt the same size!
I don't want to overeat or go off plan, but wow.
I don't think i ever remember being this hungry, which, I'm sure I have, but its just been such a long time since I've stuck to a diet past day 1.

Picture attached of my empty, gnawing, slightly painful black hole ☹️

@BookishBabe if I remember rightly, your jab day is on a Wednesday? When I was on 2.5mg I had to find my willpower on day 5 and 6 of each week, but not so much on 5mg. Have you seen the shotsy app (I think it’s only for Apple, not android), it shows how much MJ is in your system and you can see why your brain is telling you that you’re hungry. I use the free version.
sparkling water is my best friend, I discovered that if I add vanilla sugar free syrup it’s bloody delicious. A chopped up pink lady apple with a desert spoon of peanut butter removes any hunger pangs for me.
When I first started I was adamant I knew the difference between thirst and hunger, I now know that I didn’t, and a big drink really fills any big black holes I have.
It will pass ☺️

BookishBabe · 17/12/2024 08:35

Thank you for replying @iwouldratherbesinging
Yes, my jab day is tomorrow morning.
Everyone has had chocolate waffles for breakfast today and I wasn't tempted. It's reallt strange, nothing is making me feel like "ohhhh, I'd really love some of that", which is obviously a positive. But the flip side of that is I'm starving and not really arsed to eat. I've never had to really force myself before.
I have been drinking alot more than I usually would in the quest to fill the hole, but its not helping too much.
They say appetite suppression only works on some people, maybe I'm destined to be hungry.
Just feels like my insides aren't right with this big hole 🤣

No loss this week. Literally exactly the same as last week. I haven't had the BEST week, but stayed under 1100 cals every single day (I aim for 900 as from experience, anything more and I don't lose weight). First week on 12.5.

It can be disheartening @JusteanBiscuits I hoovered between 202lb and 198lb for 9 months till September. Since then I have lost a steady pound a week and was 192 on the scales this morning. Any week you don't gain is a bonus.

Lobsterteapot · 17/12/2024 19:00

Quick question ladies, did you speak to your gp before starting? I’m on meds for high blood pressure and type two diabetes and I’m worried about how they’ll interact?

SilenceInside · 17/12/2024 19:06

@Lobsterteapot I didn't, I'm on medication for high blood pressure which I declared when I did the online consultation. I had no comment about that at all from the prescriber and from my own investigations I was happy that there was no interaction between Mounjaro and the medication I take.

Having said that, I think the situation is more complex for diabetes as Mounjaro affects blood sugar levels and you might need to take that into account. I would probably want to run it past whoever is managing your diabetes at the moment.

Lobsterteapot · 17/12/2024 19:15

Thanks for that @SilenceInside I googled it and it looks like you can take both. Wasn’t sure how thorough the checks are from
the prescribers.

SilenceInside · 17/12/2024 19:31

Also, I have my own bp monitor at home and check my bp regularly. If my bp starts to get too low then I would contact my GP to discuss reducing the medication for it. But it will be the weight loss that might lower my bp more than the Mounjaro I think.

DC home from Uni and I have been cooking more. (DH and I can be lazy in this respect but DC like home cooked well balanced meals as they are health nuts!).

Lots more veg and protein. Still having wine as it is Xmas and I have a few nights out planned so want to keep up momentum!!!!

Anyhow lost another 1kg this week. No calorie counting. No fasting. I am shocked. I think my body is metamorphosing into a normal body and with the help of MJ even though I am eating a decent amount I am still losing weight.

Plan for January is to give up alcohol, fast and calorie counting but for now I am able to enjoy Xmas on 5mg dose and still have a few treats a day.

Anyone suffering from GERD? I have started on omeprozole again and all symptoms have completely cleared. I do have hashimotos which when first diagnosed with I had GERD also so I have taken omeprozole on and off over the years so my GP is very understanding. Don’t suffer though as anti acids did not clear my GERD symptoms this time but within 2 days of omeprozole all GERD symptoms have gone. Don’t suffer needlessly ask GP for omeprozole is my advice.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 18/12/2024 09:24

3.5 lbs off this week, wasn’t expecting that! I’m usually a steady 2lbs a week gal, so it was a nice surprise. I’m 5lb off of a 2 stone loss, it would be lovely if I could step into 2025 2 stone lighter, just got to get through Christmas, plus I finish work on Friday and don’t go back until January 6th, lots of social and family events to navigate!

JusteanBiscuits · 18/12/2024 12:05

Feeling very bloated and 'full'. I haven't been having my daily sauerkraut / kimchi though so it could be that! My new lunch will be prunes and kimchi because I am 'backed up' again I think!

Doggymummar · 18/12/2024 13:22

That heavy intestine bowel feeling is so horrible good luck with the prunes.

BookishBabe · 18/12/2024 16:04

3rd jab this morning.
Feels like i feel starving, then sick, and stay feeling sick until I go back to feel starving again!
Just ordered my next pen and I went for the 5mg.

If anything i don't think I'm eating enough, a problem I've never had before in my life!

5th jag at 2.5 mg .1 stone down at least 10 more to go .
Glad of this thread tbh as everyone is different but oh to only have a stone to lose. However what has been wonderful and it must be how some people just naturally are , that food noise has gone .I've wandered round shops totally not interested in all the Christmas crap that I would have bought and eaten .Just not buying it this Yr dh is going to get what he wants and that's it .It's been very freeing .I'm eating smaller meals lots of protein and way less curbs, just don't fancy them .

I imagine those curbs would be very hard!( sorry!)

I've had a couple of days where I've had to top myself up to 1,000 calories as it felt like it wasn't sensible to be on lower.
TMI, but I'm praying for a big poo tonight so I've lost something for tomorrow's weight in! I'll be gutted if I've got my first week of not losing.

I’m usually the same day 2 and 3 after a jab then it starts to wain a bit and I can eat better. But on the days that I struggle to eat I’ll try and have breakfast, skip lunch then have a small dinner, or I’ll have a bottle of huel to sip on during the day. It’s an odd feeling isn’t it?

Iwouldratherbesinging · 19/12/2024 22:31

@PinkArt good luck with that 💩😆

PinkArt · 19/12/2024 23:31

Ha, thanks @Iwouldratherbesinging. More TMI but I have IBS-D, so the 'not going' side effect of mounjaro has actually been really welcome for me. Just not this week when it's meant no loss is showing at all and it's my official weigh in day tomorrow..

GnomeDePlume · 20/12/2024 05:40

Took my first 5mg injection last night.

7kgs down in 4 weeks on 2.5mg. Which is 5% of my total weight. Only another 70kg to go to get down to a healthy BMI.

BMI currently 50.8, down from a starting point of 53.5.
