Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

I’m very into herbal tea at the moment - coffee isn’t doing it for me anymore

TragicMuse · 11/02/2025 18:09

Can I ask, with no sugar cravings, do you still want/choose fruit?

I guess we need the vitamins so fruit isn't a bad thing but I tend to avoid it because diabetes and sugar etc.

Do you still want/like/enjoy fruit?

Lobsterteapot · 11/02/2025 19:15

@TragicMuse I really make the effort to have 5 portions of fruit/veg a day. I don’t fancy it but I do enjoy it when I have it.

Kay2000 · 11/02/2025 19:45

I’m enjoying clementines and pears at the moment and looking forward to strawberry season. I have today felt like eating for the first time, definitely this grey weather isn’t helping. I usually comfort eat when cold and tired like I am right now, so I am having to use more willpower than in previous weeks. Might need to increase my dose if it continues, my willpower muscle isn’t very strong….!

TragicMuse · 11/02/2025 20:49

Thanks @Lobsterteapot and @Kay2000 Most helpful!

This is a weird one but does anyone feel flat?

I think for years I’ve used snacks/sugar to lift me up when I’ve felt down/flat and now that doesn’t work I feel like I’m missing the dopamine hit?

Not sure what to do. This relentless grey and cold isn’t helping.

I felt like this quite a bit for the first few months. It passed though. I think it's as you say, I was used to feeling a buzz from food and was no longer getting it

Iwouldratherbesinging · 11/02/2025 22:47

@TragicMuse I don’t have sugar cravings as such but I crave fruit, I ate half a punnet of cherries at lunch time, I love apples with some peanut butter, sable grapes, mango, melon, blueberries, strawberries (when in season), blackberries, but don’t like oranges for some bizarre reason. I was the same before MJ though.
I usually love salads but as @Kay2000 says, this cold grey weather isn’t helping, plus I’m feeling the cold so much more so the last thing I want at the moment is a plate of chilly salad 😆

@Lobsterteapot I think I have moments where I think that I feel I’m missing something, but can’t quite put my finger on it. I’m on a high as I’m losing weight, I really look forward to my Tuesday weigh in, I look forward to Thursday jab day, I sing a lot with a band and a choir which gives me a dopamine hit. I think it could just be the grey days and the cold. But I know I do miss a good takeaway of a weekend!

Well done all! W5 D3 have stayed with 2.5 as lost 8kgs so far. I’m charting it in KGs as stones have so many negative connotations for me & wanted this journey to feel different. Felt hungry yesterday & ate some of kids sweets made me feel really nauseous so determined to be more mindful today. Have a good day all.

WafflingDreamer · 12/02/2025 09:45

I haven't gone down a dress sizes yet but at nearly 3.5st down, I'm hoping I'm not too far away.

What are people doing? How many things are you buying? I don't need any work wear and I have a few pairs of 20 and 18 jeans.

That's a really interesting point about KGs Vs lbs, I hadn't thought of it but it is resonating with me...

Eye screening tomorrow and then I should be good to purchase and start!

I've imposed a ban on new clothes - I have a lot of things u used to wear and which will fit as I go down so I'm going to do my best to use all of that and only buy something if I really need to. And then do Vinted or charity shop.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/02/2025 10:10

I hate clothes, well actually that’s a lie, I love clothes but hate the difference in sizing! Most of my clothes were from Seasalt, all at 26/28, they are generous with their sizing, I used to buy 32s in Evans, my main issue are my boobs, they are too large, it’s my mothers fault! I’ve got rid of all my 26/28s and have replaced (thanks Vinted) with 24s. I’ve also bought a couple of 22s as an incentive.
But… a size 24 is vastly different across brands, at my heaviest my bust measured 54 inches, I’m now measuring at 49 inches, so some brands I can get into a 22, I’m not complaining though! I bought some 22 jeans at the weekend and they are perfect.
I also find it amusing how vastly different we all are size wise even though we are roughly the same weight give or take a couple of stones.

My bust same as yours, how much weight did you lose before dropping to Seasalt 24? I have quite a few of their items in 26/28 and I think I’ll aim for that to see me through summer as I don’t mind if it’s oversized, but if I carry on losing I’ll definitely need new clothes for Autumn. I might treat myself to a size 24 or 22 summer dress when I get there. I’ve lost a stone now, but apart from my bra being comfier, I can’t tell, as I was growing out of my existing 26-30 clothing, so I’m just getting back into those comfortably. It’s like peeling an onion and I think I need to peel a few more layers before I notice or start to look like I’m losing weight!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/02/2025 10:57

@Kay2000 I was wearing 26/28 (in Seasalt) between 21stone and 17 stone ish, I’m buying 24s which are a bit roomy (which I prefer) now I’m 16.5 stone. The larger sizes were looking a bit comical on me 😂

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/02/2025 11:05

Oh, I should add, I’m 5ft 2.5 (the .5 is important!)

Kay2000 · 12/02/2025 11:11

@Iwouldratherbesinging I’m 5ft 4 - but shrinking as the last measurement was 5ft 3.5! I’ve just hit 21st so the 26/28 should fit me for another couple stone at least then. Especially as my bust is the biggest part and usually the last to lose from. My clothing target is XL/XXL Gudrun which is around 18-20 I think. A while yet.

GnomeDePlume · 12/02/2025 11:53

I'm another who finds kilos much less emotive. They are factual and feel less judgemental.

I make a lot of my own clothes so I am quite excited by the prospect of being able to look at non-plus sized patterns. It's a long way off though!

Currently most of the weightloss seems to be from my chin and my feet. This is creating negatives I hadn't anticipated. My menopausal chin hair is getting closer together, my previously stretched slippers are now a bit loose.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/02/2025 12:04

I'm another seasalt-er... There really isn't much choice for our size and it's a nicer brand. I'm also wearing 26-28... I have found my people 😂.

I'm 5ft6 and currently 21st 10 so think this will fit for a good while. I've lost nearly a stone but they're baggy clothes and I think I might have brought them when a few stone lighter in the first place 😳.

In my head feel like it will take me to 17 to really feel I've lost some weight/change size - and even then that's when I first panicked at being so morbidly obese 😳. It's going to be a long journey isn't it.

It will be amazing to go into normal shops and buy normal clothes, or even seasalt in normal people sizes. I am starting to dream it might be possible., even if patience is not my thing😊.

Those of you that have already lost - how did you decide about going up doses? Did you stay low while you could or go up as soon as?

Lola3034 · 12/02/2025 12:14

I have soooo many old clothes and I try not to buy anything. So far, since I started in August I didn't have to. It is embarrassing but I held onto all the clothes over the years, only binning or donating the things that I was too old for 😅 or that had some damage to it. This was also my reasoning to part with all that money for weight loss jabs. I literally barely could fit into a few things and if I didn't start loosing weight, I would have to spend a lot of money getting next size up (even stretchy clothes can only stretch to certain point before they burst apparently 🤣)

Namechangean · 12/02/2025 13:12

I’m 5ft 1 I started at 20st 3 wearing size 22/24, I wear a lot of jersey dresses from simply be. I’m 16st 2 now and I’m wearing size 18, size 22 jersey dresses still look ok but I have a large chest and so I’ve got size 22 dresses that have no stretch that are now fit nicely, but didn’t fit at all before. I have dresses I’ve kept that started fitting again. But had a holiday planned and so spent some money on some new clothes, I was delighted when I needed to return the size 20s I’d purchased and swap them for 18s. I’m no longer exclusively looking at plus size collections, which honestly I’m finding so strange. I’m used to seeing plus size models and so when I see the models for the main collection I struggle to apply the clothes to myself. I’m not body shaming anyone, but it’s been so long since I looked at the thinner models that it all feels a bit wrong!

mamabeeboo · 12/02/2025 14:11

Hi all, looking forward to joining this thread!

35yo female, 3 sons, one hubby
WFH office job
SW:144kg
CW:138kg
GW:100kg
Size 28 clothes
Height: 5ft8

Mounjaro: W4D3 on 2.5mg

Background: Grew up with not much money, so all food was a blessing and 'clean plate' before leaving the table. This has made me switch off my 'I am full' signal and struggle to get this switched back on. Love snacking in front of the TV. I enjoy dance exercise, but at this weight, I find it difficult and a lot to move about, so less enjoyable.

Reason why: Always been overweight as a child. Now, life is just simply not fun. I struggle fitting into seats, can't keep up with my boys, I hate these plus-sized shops. I see the judgement from people when they have to sit next to me in the cinema/theatre/airplane. I feel embarrassment, shame and self-loathing. I don't take photos. I just want to be normal and feel normal.

I am conscious of my age - I have no health conditions however I am very aware that will come to a grinding halt soon if I don't do something now.

Mounjaro is my change and I feel for the first time in a long time, hopeful.

I started in January and keep having fantasies over what I will look like in 6 months.

My question:
My weightloss has stalled in the last couple of weeks despite being in a significant caloric deficit. I expected a massive loss in the first month, like so many others out there, but hasn't happened for me. I've gone from eating 3200 to 1500 cals a day. HALF! Of what I usually ate.

I've bought the 5mg pen ready to use on Monday, however I don't know what else it will do if I'm eating less calories already. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Their weightloss has stalled, and then the next dose has kick started the weightloss again, despite perhaps eating the same? I don't really want the 5mg to make me eat even less than 1500 cals - I have a long way to go!

Appreciate any support/advice and really excited to speak to you all and share this journey!

#teamskinny

Kay2000 · 12/02/2025 15:40

Hello @mamabeeboo and welcome. When you say stalled, do you mean you’ve stopped losing weight completely or has it slowed down? I’m on W6 and on 3.75mg from a 5mg pen and I’m losing 1-2lb a week. It seems slow compared to others who appear to be half starving themselves (on other threads) but 2lb a week is 100 in a year and that’s fine, as tempting as it is to wish for more and go up the injections, as I know this is going to take me about 18 months at this rate. It may be that you need a greater calorie deficit to lose weight, we’re all different and it could be you need 1400 calories or 1300 calories, but that deficit can be achieved by burning some, are you exercising at all? I’m not calorie counting at all yet, am just eating 3x day and much less overall. I’ve just got back from swimming and I was thinking whilst I was there I need to start going twice a week. I look at it that we need to make permanent changes to lose and keep the weight off and I’ve found the people on this thread are doing it with a long term, sensible view, probably because we’ve all gained so much weight slowly over years and know to reverse that it’ll take time.

JusteanBiscuits · 12/02/2025 16:05

I was trying to work out how to explain why I prefer to weight in KG. But yes, it feels less emotive, and quite probably, much less mother-baggage as it were.

I anyone wants a copy of my spreadsheet that does all the conversions, running totals etc just shout. It's not as pretty as the ones you can buy, but does everything I want it to - plus I had the fun of making it!!!

Springsunflower · 12/02/2025 16:11

.I suppose I'm just seeing the injections as normal now ..I seem to be in a routine food wise ,that I'm hoping I can stick to once I'm of the jabs ( in the very far future)
I'm finding the NHS weight loss app very helpful,I keep a track of my calories and a record of my weight on it ..that with monjroro seems to keep me on track..I found I couldn't just wing it and eat mindfully on monjroro, the tendancy to over eat is still here ,as is the tendency to binge ..I haven't done either since starting monjroro..but the urges are still there , frustratingly
I'm 5f 10 ...so weight is higher than I've seen mentioned,but coming down..I'm approx 4 stone down now .

Springsunflower · 12/02/2025 16:16

Ah sorry ,the top part of my message isn't there there ,I was saying hello everyone
