Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Oh, and 3.5lb this week - been really ill with covid and not eating much.

Holiday next week. Will be skipping weigh in as not taking my scales to Spain with me! Will be interesting to see how the weight copes with having my meals cooked for me!

JusteanBiscuits · 12/02/2025 16:28

Oh, and re fruit. I really don't fancy fruit at all! BUT, I am eating lots of veg. If I want a snack, I eat a carrot like it's an apple. And things like sugar snap peas when I'm cooking as I do find I was still picking while cooking.

Springsunflower · 12/02/2025 16:31

Lucky you a holiday next week, half term in Spain ,sounds fab

I was trying to work out how to explain why I prefer to weight in KG. But yes, it feels less emotive, and quite probably, much less mother-baggage as it were.

I anyone wants a copy of my spreadsheet that does all the conversions, running totals etc just shout. It's not as pretty as the ones you can buy, but does everything I want it to - plus I had the fun of making it!!!

Oh I'd like a copy please! I love a good spreadsheet!

GnomeDePlume · 12/02/2025 11:53

I'm another who finds kilos much less emotive. They are factual and feel less judgemental.

I make a lot of my own clothes so I am quite excited by the prospect of being able to look at non-plus sized patterns. It's a long way off though!

Currently most of the weightloss seems to be from my chin and my feet. This is creating negatives I hadn't anticipated. My menopausal chin hair is getting closer together, my previously stretched slippers are now a bit loose.

I also make my own clothes and am looking forward to making straight sizes and not always needing 3m of fabric...

Being able to make a top with 1m is the dream!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 12/02/2025 18:51

My small goal is to be able to buy clothes in Asda etc.
Then to buy clothes in Primark.
The fat stuff is gradually being made into patchwork quilts.

Hi all, looking forward to joining this thread!

Mounjaro: W4D3 on 2.5mg

Background: Grew up with not much money, so all food was a blessing and 'clean plate' before leaving the table. This has made me switch off my 'I am full' signal and struggle to get this switched back on. Love snacking in front of the TV. I enjoy dance exercise, but at this weight, I find it difficult and a lot to move about, so less enjoyable.

Reason why: Always been overweight as a child. Now, life is just simply not fun. I struggle fitting into seats, can't keep up with my boys, I hate these plus-sized shops. I see the judgement from people when they have to sit next to me in the cinema/theatre/airplane. I feel embarrassment, shame and self-loathing. I don't take photos. I just want to be normal and feel normal.

I am conscious of my age - I have no health conditions however I am very aware that will come to a grinding halt soon if I don't do something now.

Mounjaro is my change and I feel for the first time in a long time, hopeful.

I started in January and keep having fantasies over what I will look like in 6 months.

My question:
My weightloss has stalled in the last couple of weeks despite being in a significant caloric deficit. I expected a massive loss in the first month, like so many others out there, but hasn't happened for me. I've gone from eating 3200 to 1500 cals a day. HALF! Of what I usually ate.

I've bought the 5mg pen ready to use on Monday, however I don't know what else it will do if I'm eating less calories already. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Their weightloss has stalled, and then the next dose has kick started the weightloss again, despite perhaps eating the same? I don't really want the 5mg to make me eat even less than 1500 cals - I have a long way to go!

Appreciate any support/advice and really excited to speak to you all and share this journey!

I'm not very good with kilos but I'm sure that is about the equivalent of losing 1st in 4 weeks. Its generally recommended to lose 1-2lb (0.5-1kg) a week to avoid too many side effects of weight loss. Mounjaro isn't a quick fix, as long as you are in a calorie deficit the weight will come off but will probably settled at around 1kg a week.

It's just under half a stone - most of which was done first week, so water weight..? I'm here wondering when the fat loss will happen!
Anyway, I'm trusting the process. I guess not everyone has massive losses at the beginning, oh well!

144kg down to 138kg is 6kg, according to Google 6kg is 13lb. My average loss according to my app is 1.09kg a week, I'm doing my 20th injection tomorrow and am 20kgs or 3st 2lb down. It'll all add up its a marathon not a sprint and lots of other awful sayings that are actually true. It's frustrating to have the scales stop but you've lost a lot in a short space of time. Lots of food like salt and carbs can make you retain water, as long as you are in a deficit you won't be gaining weight it'll come off eventually.

Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.
SilenceInside · 12/02/2025 20:37

Bit late to the clothes conversation, but I also have lots of Seasalt stuff in my wardrobe, but I am looking forward to changing my whole approach to clothes when I am nearer to my target weight. I had got used to dressing in what would fit, that covered me up, rather than what I actually liked. Seasalt are great for having plenty of choice in the larger sizes, but I really only ever bought from them or occasional bits from Gudrun Sjoden in their XXL - only the jersey over sized things though. I am looking forward to having a much wider choice of places to shop from.

I think I want to be a lot more goth/rock style, like I used to be a very long time ago, and wear things that are a bit more unusual than the cover up things I've been in for so long.

Oh thank you., that's very generous.

I would love a copy of that's ok.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 12/02/2025 22:27

Yes I can see there will be so many more options for dressing once we're in normal sizes!!

Silence - youve already lost a lot have you needed to buy an in between set of clothes?

Beachcomber74 · 12/02/2025 22:40

Glad it’s not just me who avoids the stones! Kgs have less emotion though I do remember weighing in with super skinny Doctor who said you’re over 100kg you need to lose weight. I’d love to be 100kg now!! That’s my interim goal. Always makes me laugh in the lift when it says max of 10 people with combined weight limit 800kg so I essentially make up 1.5 people!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/02/2025 22:43

Hi @mamabeeboo, 6kg in 4 weeks is brilliant, I work in old ‘money’ so stones and pounds and that’s almost a stone, well over the average. I’ve just checked the app I use to record weight and I lost 9lbs in my first four weeks (just over 4kgs) so whatever you are doing stick with it, you need a sustainable amount of calories and not to feel deprived of anything.
I’ll be doing my 21st jab tomorrow and I’m 2st 12 lbs down.
I got sucked into tik toc and FB early days and felt a bit disheartened seeing the huge losses, but I’m over it now and happy with my average of 2.2lbs (1kg) a week.
another of those sayings that is so true ‘comparison is the theft of joy’. Take pride in what you have achieved, you’re doing brilliantly.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/02/2025 22:49

Has anyone bought from Carolina Dress Room, they sell some amazing tea dresses that are so comfy (and have pockets) and flattering. They come in 3 sizes, their size 3 fits 22 - 32. Some of the patterns are a bit out there for me but I love them, Topsy Curvy is another with quirky prints. They get new designs in quite regularly, I’m a sucker for anything Disney themed. I bought a Popsy dress today on Vinted in a size 22, it has rabbits on it 😂 - have I mentioned that I’m 57, soon to be 58?? 🤭

Silence - youve already lost a lot have you needed to buy an in between set of clothes?

Yes! In-between clothes became a necessity as my largest stuff was hanging off me and even though I like baggy it was becoming ridiculous. I decided for the interim to get some "one size" dresses from Apache Shops as they are cheap and will look ok as I slowly shrink! The "one size" says that it fits up to a UK size 18/20 which I would agree with - they've been fine even when my lower half was more like a 22.

I have lots of funky tights that I haven't worn for ages that I dug out of the back of my drawers that I'm rediscovering to wear with the dresses.

I don't want to buy the things I really want until I am more like a size 10 to 12. I have only ever been a size 10 briefly in my very early 20s 😮so it's quite hard to remember what that was like! I very much plan to maintain at my target weight for a lot longer this time.

SilenceInside · 12/02/2025 23:34

@Iwouldratherbesinging I've not seen any of those sites before, but I've just had a good look at all of them and seen lots of things that I like the look of, so thank you!

Kay2000 · 12/02/2025 23:47

I never wore your classic fitted clothing or jeans, I’ve always been fairly electric and like the Gudrun oversized look, so have several linen Seasalt dresses that I wear smocks over, so I can’t wait to fit into Gudrun again. I also had my colours done and the bright Spring colours that Gudrun do are perfect. But right now I don’t feel comfortable wearing lime green or bright coral. Somewhere in the depths of the attic I have a lime green linen sleeveless dress that I last wore to my sister’s wedding, size 16 (although I was nearer an 18 with a one year old baby). If I can find that and fit into it comfortably, that’s my ultimate target. I have no wish to be a 12 again, I’ll not be able to maintain it and in all the sizes I’ve been a 16 was when I was in proportion top and bottom. Around 11 stone. And as I’m 56, I’m more focused on health tbh. My dad had a cardiac arrest at 54 (he was successfully resuscitated by the GP) and my mum died at 65. Their parents all died between 54 and 65 so that’s my main motivation, to give myself the best chance of getting past 65! Clothes will be a nice addition.

GnomeDePlume · 13/02/2025 07:31

Good morning. Weigh in and jab day today. Going up to 10mg.

SW 137KG BMI 53.5
CW 124KG BMI 48.4
GW 60KG BMI 23.4

1 kilo down on last week. Overall 13 kilos in 12 weeks. 2 stones in old money. In an ideal world I now have 10 stones to lose.

Over the same period on the lighter life diet I lost 3 stones but that was hard. For me, this has been far easier.

OK, a blank, template version of the spreadsheet in google sheets :)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mQx64IAgdBAkHePk5QYVGDraMdmFBauoe_fRHLXXVnE/edit?usp=sharing

Go to File -> Make a Copy and then name it, so that you're not sharing your own weight loss with everyone :) Only Green cells can be edited - so date and weight in KG.

It doesn't do any forecasts yet - will work on that next :)
