Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Oooh this sounds awful to most people but I think you guys will get it. I'm into the "20s". I weighed in kg and 133.1 is 20 stone and 13.5 pounds so it's by a slither... But it's there!!!

I'm still horrified it's this high. At 17 stone I had a lifestyle wake up call/health scare and knew I needed to sort it out and here I am 6 years and 4 stone heavier.

But in the goodness I've lost 10pounds in just over my first month now and hopefully it won't be too long till I cross that 20 barrier.

(and I'm quite nauseas today but no D and V 🤞)

Kay2000 · 09/02/2025 16:31

Well done @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden - I am 2lb off being in the ‘20s’ so that’s my target for this week. I’m sticking to 3.75 mg for my injection tonight as it’s working well for me still. We had our usual bag of chocolate Maltesers which usually only lasts Friday night and this weekend it’s lasted two nights and last night I had about 5 and really didn’t want any more! My husband isn’t going to lose weight at this rate as he’s hoovering up what I don’t eat.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 09/02/2025 20:50

Take the win @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden ! Take the win!

I'm a smidge off being "in the 20s" and I shall be happy when I get there as the next mini-win on the way down.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 09/02/2025 22:11

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden so happy for you!! You’re only 13.5 lbs away from looking at the 19’s! Enjoy the high ☺️

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/02/2025 22:20

Yay thankyou people and great to have others alongside me at a similar stage :)

PinkArt · 09/02/2025 22:28

Agreed, everyone should take every win along the way. Pound, inches, BMIs - all count on the journey.
I'm finding being in the 17s at the moment hard, mentally, as I have lost and regained this specific stone sooo many fucking times. I've had the health scares at this weight too, and yup my weight went higher still too. I've 'definitely' been overhauling my life from here before.
I have kicked myself more than once that the two and a bit stone I've lost so far on mounjaro only got me back to here and weren't two stone off from here.
However.
Every ounce, pound and stone is a win. Ultimately I guess we have to focus less on where we were and where we are going.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/02/2025 23:21

Yes so relate to that. I read other people starting at 17 and feeling large and wish i could be! I've got all nervous about only losj g for the first 6 months/only losing 20% and it stalling.

But we can only start with where we are and we are doing it 😊

PinkArt · 09/02/2025 23:47

Just to add, I don't mean to be a dick whinging about being in the 17s when I know others in this group are currently higher. It's not the weight itself that I'm finding a bit rough, it's the 'yet again' of this particular stone. Hitting the 16s will feel amazing not just because it's the 16s (what a skinny bitch I'll be 😂) but because it'll be the first time I've broken that barrier since before covid.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/02/2025 00:02

Oh Pink Im so sorry I implied that. I've really appreciated your posts and completely relate to have numbers you need to get back down to before it "counts". I know 17 isn't at all low weight it's just one of those moments where I remember in time before I the put on more. 13 was another one.. 15 when I first tried to get help for binge eating 🙄.

Everyone has their own journey and I do know even those trying to lose 2 or 3 stone. But I'm so glad for this thread of people who "get it" when it's more. Really sorry for the wya I phrased it.

PinkArt · 10/02/2025 00:17

Oh gosh not at all @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden, I just wanted to add a bit of extra context as I think we've all had enough over the years of hearing about someone thinner than us complaining about how fat they feel!
15s are a future demon for me as that's the 'really huge' weight I lost a substantial amount from before. And if I get there I can't wait to see how tiny my 22 year old 'fat weight' in the 11s feels!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 10/02/2025 07:03

I had a bit of a non scale victory this weekend. Getting ready for a night out I realised my bra was much too loose - had to tighten the straps and do it up on the tightest hook (usually it’s on the loosest one)! Starting to feel a bit of progress now!

TorturedParentsDepartment · 10/02/2025 08:59

My current mini win - I managed a day of sitting down for a training in a chair with armrests that would have been painful previously. It was a painful experience because the training went on and on and on... but not for the usual large arse + small chair reasons.

I measure myself every month - tend to lose a couple of CM each time so far.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 10/02/2025 11:37

Good news all round @MummyInTheNecropolis and @TorturedParentsDepartment!
my victory this week is that after battling with constipation for 4 months and trying every recommended concoction I’ve finally discovered that lactulose works!! 10ml in the morning and 10ml in the evening, I started off with 20ml twice a day but that worked a little too well 😆

@BookishBabe are you still around and doing ok? We haven’t heard from you for a while, hope all is well…

BookishBabe · 10/02/2025 14:58

@Iwouldratherbesinging

Hey 👋🏻
I'm still on mounjaro. I start my 7.5mg on Wednesday. I have lost 2 stone since I started but have stalled.
My DH has severe depression and has really struggled with his mental health since just after Christmas. So at the moment there has been a lot of concentration on my DHs health, rightfully so.
I need him in my life and I need him to be around, so my journey has went slightly on the back burner, but I'm still trying.
With patience and perseverance and some medication, things seem to be getting a bit better for him. We're taking each day at a time.
His depression essentially turned into psychotic depression with a lot of focus on suicidal thoughts.

Thank you for thinking of me. 🫂

My journey so far has been I started saxenda for the second time in April 2024 as I had left over pens, my wife started mounjarno at the same time. I didn’t want to pay for two lots per month. We both started at 20st 3, but I’m shorter so my bmi was higher - 53!! Once my saxenda ran out i went it alone in June. I lost 4st 8lbs. My wife’s lost 7st, she has two pens left as she had a break over Christmas as we had a once in a lifetime holiday at the end of January (our main motivator for finally losing weight), so she has restarted but will be coming off it in two months and see how she gets on without it. Hopefully me being on it will continue to motivate her, and stop her regaining, as I found her being on it helped me, although I was obviously was eating more as I wasn’t taking any medication for the majority of my diet. Just calorie counting.

So I started mounjarno today, I’ve regained 7lbs on my holiday - worth it. So my mounjarno starting weight is 16st 3 now. So I’m continuing on my weight loss journey and I’m so excited and hope that I get the amazing results my wife got.

I’ve also been up and down with weight, I was consistently hitting 18st 10 for years as my top weight, and I’d lose a stone or two, but never any more. Then in covid I went in to the 20s. So I found the 17s and 18s mentally difficult too. Like I’ve lost so much but am just where I was. Getting in to the 15s has felt amazing. But my wife’s huge weight loss - you can really see it, has made me a bit jealous and not as appreciative of mine. Hoping to catch her up now!

Sounds like people are doing amazing. I’m worried about side effects as saxenda have me eggy burps and heartburn which I hate with a passion

Well done on your weight loss. Hope things improve for your DH

Kay2000 · 10/02/2025 17:30

@BookishBabe that sounds tough for both of you, I hope your OH feels better soon. I had a friend who had a psychotic breakdown and it was scary. She’s fully recovered now though. Make sure it doesn’t derail you on your diet too much. I’m saying that as I know I’d use it as a reason to eat freely, as some things are quite rightly more important than losing weight. But you need to be in a good place to help your partner to recover, don’t forget your health too x

@Namechangean You and your wife have done brilliantly, if I can lose 7 stone and get to 15 stones, I’ll be well chuffed with myself (even if I have that little voice in my brain saying you were 15 stone when you joined WW back in 2005 and thought you were huge). Ah well, onwards and upwards as my school motto said (onwards and downwards for me 🤞🏻 🤣).

Thank you. How are you finding it so far?

Yes there’s always a weight that sticks in your head. I was 11st 4 in 2009 when I joined a gym and my blood pressure was so high due to the stress of the instructor doing my induction finding out my weight that the machine couldn’t read my blood pressure. 11st! I thought I was so fat, that weight is unimaginable to me now. Almost half my starting weight.

But my wife is now 13st 3, she’s started couch to 5k, looking like a different person and is still losing, and she started at the same weight as me so I feel like it really can be done now. I just hope it works for me too!

So starting out feeling really positive and looking forward to checking in and seeing how other people are getting on with their journey.

Day 1 done ✔️

PinkArt · 10/02/2025 18:23

That sounds really tough @BookishBabe. Sending hugs and I hope you're looking after yourself as much as you are your DH.

Day 1 done ✔️

It’s been great, no significant side effects even though I was very worried about them. Tired and cold on the day post injection (Monday) and nothing else. Decreased inflammation which is great as I’ve had chronic pain for years. And I’m a stone lighter than I was at the end of 2024. After being unable to lose weight for two decades. I’m really pleased I got the courage up to try it and fortunate enough that I can afford it.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 10/02/2025 21:42

Hi @Namechangean, wow you’ve both done amazingly and it’s brilliant that you have each other’s support, makes things so much easier and each of you knows what the other is experiencing 😊
7lbs after the holiday of a lifetime seems like a good deal to me!

I have a couple of weights stuck forever in my head, the first was when I was about 16, I remember standing on the scales and reading 12 stone 7lbs, I had been desperately trying to lose weight (I think I’d managed about half a stone, but had gained again), and thinking, that’s it, no more, you can’t gain anymore.
The next was getting married at 14.5 stone, being mortified that I only had the choice of one wedding dress and being utterly disgusted with myself. Funnily, 14.5 is my next goal!

JBJ · 11/02/2025 11:36

I'm just going to slip in here... on W2 D2. First weigh in yesterday and lost 6lb, although that was an evening weigh in after eating during the day, as I'd been away for the weekend, and I always weigh heavier later in the day. Scales are saying 10lb this morning!!

I've got 10.5 stones to lose to be just in a healthy BMI, although my first big goal is 13st in riding clothes, as I really want to get back on a horse, and my local RDA school have a 13st limit.

Feel very lucky so far that I've not had any major side effects, other than headaches - which ease with ibuprofen- and a bit of lightheadedness for the first day or so. Fingers crossed it carries on like that! Appetite suppression seems good on this dose so far - I'm still hungry a couple of times a day, but fill up faster and haven't been snacking or wanting sweet things. I did find it had worn off almost entirely by the weekend though, which was a challenge as I was away with a friend who doesn't know I'm doing this, so really had to exercise use restraint!

It's such a novelty to be planning meals based on calories/protein/nutritional value, as opposed to craving too much of all the things that aren't any good for me.

Good luck everyone!

Lobsterteapot · 11/02/2025 15:28

This is a weird one but does anyone feel flat?

I think for years I’ve used snacks/sugar to lift me up when I’ve felt down/flat and now that doesn’t work I feel like I’m missing the dopamine hit?

Not sure what to do. This relentless grey and cold isn’t helping.

Grumpyoldthing · 11/02/2025 16:32

Yes a bit , I was forever getting sugar based treats

I have bought myself some really nice tea bags from the tea company so that’s going to be my posh treat for a bit

Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.
