Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Hit my first mini goal today! 2.5 stone off, I’m so happy. I no longer have 10 stone to lose but I’m staying here!
Now to tackle the next goal, my wedding weight over 37 years ago, wish I’d kept my wedding dress for laughs now 😂

Newshoesnewname · 04/02/2025 18:11

Well done @Iwouldratherbesinging that's a great mini goal.

I'm sure you will be that wedding weight again before you know it

Kay2000 · 04/02/2025 19:40

I’m pleased they’re making changes and I think GPs should be informed as the drug can interject with other conditions and medications. I also could see a pharmacist offering to confirm weight for, say £10, or the nurse at my drs (I go for an annual check anyway, so they have a record of my weight. It’s better to have your GP on board than not. I dropped a letter in for them and I’m weighing myself on their machine monthly as you can hand it in to have it recorded on your records.

@Iwouldratherbesinging fantastic milestone, well done! I still have my wedding dress but I was an hourglass size 16 when I got married and I can’t foresee my body being that shape again without a lot of cosmetic surgery 🤣

This is my secret end target. My size 14 wedding dress. I may not get there, we'll see, but it's in the back of my head!!

Newshoesnewname · 04/02/2025 20:37

I've got my size 18 wedding dress. It would be something to get back into that😄

GnomeDePlume · 02/02/2025 12:53

@TragicMuse it would be a real shame if your diabetes nurse didn't go for it.

My diabetes nurse is fully in favour of mounjaro. She has said that not all her mounjaro patients are losing weight but the vast majority are. We are all also reporting improvement in diabetes symptoms.

Well. I've worked so hard to control my diabetes that I'm too well-controlled for NHS prescription Mounjaro. Which is ironic. But I'll take it as a win anyway!

She isn't against my getting it privately and I don't have any contraindications in the medication I already take - I don't take any for diabetes - and she gave me lots of advice and guidance. So I'm going to start at the end of the month, on payday!

Springsunflower · 05/02/2025 13:42

Hello everyone
May I join
Only just seen this thread
I'm on 10 mg of monjroro and lost 3 and a half stone since last October ISH ,can't actually remember when I started .
I'm cold ,all the time ,I used to swim daily and I'm to cold to do that anymore ,and oh my god I'm so very tired all the time .
But I'm thankfully loosing weight and I have so much more to loose .
I am so ashamed to of let myself get to the point I am at .
Life just ran away with me and I just didn't have any space in my life to sort myself out .
I'm very worried about the new requirements for this medication,as if it goes up financially much more it will price me out of being able to afford it ..and I've a lot of weight to loose

SilenceInside · 05/02/2025 14:09

@Springsunflower hello 👋glad you've found the thread. I am also cold all the time, unusual for me, but I have found overall I prefer it to being larger and getting hot & sweaty all the time. I have 4.5 stone left to lose, having started in July last year.

The new guidelines published by the GPhC yesterday are not new requirements for this medication, it's a reminder and a clarification aimed at the pharmacies to be thorough in checking independently the information patients give about their height and weight. It also shouldn't affect existing customers, and pharmacies have time to work towards how to implement independent checks. I think most pharmacies are going to want to keep customers, and so will not pass on excessive costs. But it is worrying for long-term existing customers who have provided all the information that was asked for originally, and haven't been trying to access this medication inappropriately.

SignalCat · 05/02/2025 18:08

My first package arrived today. My checkin/jab day will be Fridays, giving me two days to hopefully work through side effects. I am itching to get going now.
Talk of fitting in wedding dresses always makes me laugh a bit because I was a 22 when I wed but tbh I’d be happy to get back to that as a first goal. I think I need to lose at least 3st to get there so maybe by the summer, if all goes well, I will.
I went back to swimming today, I haven’t been since before Christmas, and it was bloody hard work!
I notice a lot of people are saying a side effect is that they are cold all the time. Yikes, I’m cold all time already, it goes hand in hand with my low BP, so I’m not looking forward to that. I remember that issue when I did lighterlife and I spent most of my spare time in bed trying to keep warm!

Kay2000 · 05/02/2025 18:33

I thought I was fat when I got married at a size 16, as I’d been completely unable to lose any weight and felt like a complete failure 🙄. 25 years later I weigh literally double what I did then, I’d have not believed it if you’d told me. Life/💩 happens though.

My main side effect has been being cold, so so cold. Which bodes well for summer as I always suffer badly in the heat 🥵. Whoever recommended an electric throw, thank you! I spend most of my time at home snuggled under it. Even my husband joined me under it last night! Swimming is my exercise of choice but luckily the pool I go to is fairly warm, as it’s a hotel leisure club, with a jacuzzi, my favourite place. Funny story about the jacuzzi - on my second ever visit there, feeling very self conscious, I was joined in the pool by a lot of very fit, very large, mostly Black men. I snuck out to the jacuzzi hoping they’d not follow but a few did and there I sat in a jacuzzi for 6 with my boobs bobbing around in the bubbles, chatting with a member of the Papua New Guinea rugby team over for the World Cup 😬 🤦‍♀️ 🤣

SeaStoat · 05/02/2025 19:27

I also remember feeling cold when I lost many stone on a vlcd many years ago. the past two days just my hands have been cold. Strange.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 05:39

I'm cold on it but worse the first 24 hours after each jab. I am irritating my family by keep asking if it's cold or if its me and turned the heating up 😳. Also hot water bottle and blankets in the living room!

I am so used to being very hot that it's so strange having to think about cold. But like pp will be welcome for summer!

I've just had a bit of a (delayed) victory and it's made me a bit emotional. I've been keeping a track of blood pressure (partly as I was worried last year with a high one in the Dr and she said to try at home and partly as I will be trying adhd meds) and I've just typed Tuesdays reading into the NHS thing to see where it was on the chart. I'm NORMAL. NORMAL. NORMAL. First time since I've been sporadically monitoring in over a year. Only a point into normal but very excited all the same. I'm expecting it might bob up and down a bit but even so... Wow Monjaro is actually magic. Even 4weeks in!

I'm starting 5 tomorrow and quite worried about side effects but I think like many here I know I need to ride them out unless dangerous as with 10 stone to lose I'm in it for the long haul. I'd really like to avoid the op if I can.

I’m on meds for high blood pressure and I’m monitoring it a couple times a week hoping I’ll eventually be able to come off them.

I did 45 clicks on my first 5mg pen on Sunday to give me 3.75mg as I was worried about side effects but I’ve not had anything new. Just a bit colder than last week 😬

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 09:12

Oh I really hope it helps your blood pressure too. Im hoping to take adhd meds which will raise it but Im hoping the MJ will counter it a bit!

Glad you've not had the bad side effects. I'm worried about V and D and have even warned my kids 😳. I guess people who have it post and there could be lots that don't get it!

I'm up to 15mg and haven't had any d&v. Constipation, and some minor nausea is all.

GnomeDePlume · 06/02/2025 14:30

Weigh in day for me. No change which is probably to be expected after being 2kg down last week:

SW 137KG BMI 53.5
CW 125KG BMI 48.8
TW 60KG BMI 23.4

One more jab at 7.5 then going up to 10 next week.

Side effects are really just the impact mounjaro is having on other meds. My warfarin dosage has dropped and now so has my levothyroxine.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 14:52

That's fab. So hoping I'll follow suit! So far my main symptoms have been fatigue and nausea which is easier to manage practically than d and v!

Springsunflower · 06/02/2025 14:55

Has anyone found it effects their mood negatively, like depression.
I'm prone to depression generally, and have awful drops in mood ...so the chances are it's more likely to just be me .but I just thought I'd ask .
I'm just so lethargic at the moment,I feel like I spend my day waiting to get back in to bed .
But if I come of the medication
I will spend my day looking for food and raiding the cupboard
I feel a bit cheated to be honest ..I think I got sucked in to all the hype about cheating and how easy it is to loose weight on monjroro..and that hasn't been the case for me ..I'm still having to try really hard ,and as much as it is giving me a small helping hand ,what it gives in one hand ,it takes with the other .
I don't actually think I was this tired when I had a newborn baby and 2 others under 3

I’m prone to depression but it hasn’t changed at all, of course everyone is different. It affects hormones and I guess it depends on why we get low. Don’t forget January and February are the months where a lot of people feel low, even those who don’t usually get depression. My sister has one of those light lamps that helps her.

I think there is a ridiculous amount of hype about these drugs. I saw one post where someone said she’d been injecting for a month but hadn’t lost weight. She eventually said she’d made no changes, was eating exactly the same, but was sat there waiting for the weight to magically fall off and she got really angry with people who said it doesn’t work like that! For me, it’s making it much easier for me to have no snacks and say no to seconds, or pudding etc. It’s not easy as you still need willpower but I’ve had no willpower for years and now I do and I’m losing on average 2lb a week which is great and sustainable for me.

Grumpyoldthing · 06/02/2025 21:05

Hi everyone, just started my second pen tonight.

total of 10lb lost in 28days . This week I have pretty much stayed the same weight which has been disappointing, but I know if I lost 10lb again next month I would be very pleased.

sadly the appetite suppressant didn’t work as well this week , which is irritating as I have ordered a second .25 as it was going so well 🤪

let’s see what this next month brings. I have three meals out in the next 5 days (family birthdays) which is a bit of a challenge but then should be a fairly quiet month .

I've just ended a run of birthday meals (Inc my 50th and a 7 course tasting menu!), Christmas, near years and more birthday meals! So been a very slow month - my average has gone from 2lb to 1.8lb a week. But I'm ok with that as actually, while weight hasn't come off my body has really changed. It's only been the last couple of weeks where people have really noticed it (so 4 stone down), and my dress size, which took ages to go down one size, suddenly jumped and I went down another! I've gone from a 24/26 to a 20 in White Stuff (too scared to buy any trousers that aren't white stuff at the moment!)

Iwouldratherbesinging · 06/02/2025 22:25

@Grumpyoldthing I average between 9.5 and 10 lbs a month, it soon adds up, and I’m not starving myself. Could probably lose more if I counted calories and cut out the occasional weekend ‘treat’, but then it would become too much like another restrictive diet for me. 10lbs is brilliant 😀

Lobsterteapot · 07/02/2025 13:34

It’s Friday weigh and injection day today! 2 pounds off this week so I’m almost at a stone now. Feeling so much better.

Looking back when I lost 7 stone previously it was in 2 pound bursts so I’m happy with that - 8 stone in a year after all.

Got my annual diabetes nurse in review coming up in a week or two, going to ask them to prescribe the Mounjaro but feeling nervous about it. Last year I lost 3 stone and it put my diabetes into remission so I’ve got the evidence that weight loss will give me a better outcome. Any tips fellow type 2 people?

Newshoesnewname · 07/02/2025 15:32

So, W2 D1 for me, jabbed last night right before bed.

Last week I didn't feel any suppression at all but Tried really hard to stick to my calories. I did go over a bit but was able to resist the snacks , cut right back on carbs and I did put myself smaller portions. Part of my issue is not being able to leave anything on my plate.

It was really hard but I'm hoping I have enough willpower and new diet enthusiasm to get me through this first pen . Hoping 5 mg will be better.

On the plus side I didn't really have to many side effects either.
Very cold for a few hours on day 3. A few bouts of diarrhoea over the week but treated with Loperimide OK .

According to Shotsy, when I took last night's dose I still had 0.84 mg in my system so I'm hoping it will build up over the weeks.

I was surprised to have a decent loss given the above, but I know from past experience it will have been mostly water due to cutting the carbs.

So pleased to report
SW 19 st 11
CW 19 st 6
Loss 5 lb
First Goal 17 st 13
BMI 47.5
C BMI 46.7
End Goal BMI in the overweight range

Iwouldratherbesinging · 07/02/2025 15:58

@Newshoesnewname, it definitely does build up in your system, I jabbed 10mg yesterday and shotsy tells me I had an estimated level of 8.33 mg in my system.
well done on 5lb loss!
