Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Welcome @StressedEric, I can empathise with the freezing all the time! I’m post menopause and suffered constantly with hot flushes, MJ has well and truly knocked those on the head. Congratulations on the new stone bracket, it’s such a good feeling!

I can’t imagine that two days of 1500 calories would cause damage @JusteanBiscuits, more importantly did you have a good time? Happy birthday to your son 🎈

I have to stay under 1000 cals to lose!

But yes, it has been a really lovely weekend!

Lobsterteapot · 27/01/2025 16:58

First weekend away on Mounjaro, went to centerparcs basically self catered. Took what we would usually eat and really struggled with the volume.
Yes ladies I really did put the pizza down after 4 slices! I said no to the sausage rolls cos I just didn’t fancy them! This must be what it’s like to have a “thin” brain 😂
Got on the scales this morning and a pound on, not upset with that, it will have gone by the weekend. Usually I’d be looking at 3-4 pounds on. I’ve also had no desire to overeat today.
Interestingly I had a couple of handfuls of crisps and could eat these with no difficulty - slider foods I think they are called in bariatric circles. Defo need to be careful with these day to day, limited nutritional value and the ability to override the Mounjaro effect. Not good so no more till the next high day/holiday.

Hello! I'm totally new to mumsnet and weightloss injections - so new I haven't yet started! My BMI is about 53 I think so I have plenty to lose!

I'm wondering if anyone has a friends referral discant code for Farmeci? The Monj price comparison is showing them as being the best price at the mo but only with the code...

Many thanks all, I look forward to reading you stories of success!

PinkArt · 27/01/2025 17:40

Search the site for weight loss promo codes @RainbowDragon77 and there should hopefully be one/ loads there. MN set up a separate forum as there are so many they're swamping the rest of the site.

RainbowDragon77 · 27/01/2025 18:02

Thank you @PinkArt I swear I tried that and couldnt find the current list but I've found it now.
I ended up going with Medino which only worked out 60p more, however I'm now concerned they won't approve my order as my BMI is over 50... but in the 21 months I've been on the NHS weight managment list (so over half way there supposedly!) my weight has only gone up so it seemed like it was time to take this into my own hands. I'm going to be fuming if I get told I weigh too much to get this help by paying for it as I don't seem to be able to get it going through the NHS!

SilenceInside · 27/01/2025 18:29

@RainbowDragon77 a high BMI will not be an issue. My BMI was 50 when I started, and I know there are others whose BMI was similar.

Kay2000 · 27/01/2025 19:55

@RainbowDragon77 why would you be too fat to start this? Im not aware if there’s a maximum weight, but I’m on my 4th week and my starting BMI was 53 - I went through Asda, not the cheapest and I may switch at some point but I just needed to prove my weight and send photos. They’re more concerned that people with near normal BMIs trying to get it. I tried to get it on the NHS but despite what Streeting keeps saying, it only seems available if you’re diabetic too. Seems they’d rather do risky and more expensive gastric surgery than injections 🤦‍♀️

Ah yes, I remember! One meal a day 😊 good luck if you decide to weigh in tomorrow

No, not one meal a day! I have somewhere around 200 cals for breakfast, 200 for lunch and then 500 for dinner. The mounjaro makes that manageable.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 27/01/2025 22:21

Sorry @JusteanBiscuits, l confused you with @Doggymummar, she also has to keep her calories really low.☺️

RainbowDragon77 · 27/01/2025 23:06

@Kay2000 there was a note on the form I had to complete that said something about needing a doctor's input for people over bmi 50. To be honest I didn't pay all that much attention! I'll try a different source if my first try doesn't pan out. Personally I would be concerned if it was given out to people that are close to or at a healthy weight.

RainbowDragon77 · 27/01/2025 23:11

@Kay2000 so they would prefer us to develop diabetes rather than help us lose weight before getting that far? Crazy!

There is quite a way between BMI of 50 and healthy weight though. Why would having Doctors input be bad?

I really do worry about the lack of checks from some of the online pharmacies (I know not all places). My niece has just managed to get a prescription - she is a size 8 but wants to get to a size 6, because they didn't request photos or ID.

I am also concerned that so many don't let the GP know that WLI have been prescribed. Your GP should always know all prescribed medication.

WafflingDreamer · 28/01/2025 09:22

I wonder if some people just aren't aware that their GP knows. I've not had any contact with my GP but when I log in to the NHS app go to GP record and acute short term medicine every single one of my pens is listed and I've swapped provider 4 times! I am a firm believer that the online pharmacy should check you are registered at the practice you put before they prescribe not putting a GP should stop you getting prescription medication

SilenceInside · 28/01/2025 09:34

There's no harm in having a GP appointment, if you can get one. But they aren't going to be able to do anything or give any advice beyond eat less and move more. They might refer to the NHS weight management service but that will likely have a many months waiting list if it's taking any new referrals at all. The GP won't advise about a private prescription with a patient, as it's not anything to do with the NHS.

In the case of RainbowDragon77, she's already on the NHS Weight Management scheme so is already on the relevant lists for having a high BMI.

I think that Medino are just being super cautious by the statement on their website rather than indicating that they won't prescribe to people with a BMI >50.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 28/01/2025 11:30

A consistent 2.2lbs off again this week, I’m within touching distance of my first goal, back in October last year it seemed impossible given my track record! I’ve ordered another 10mg pen rather than 12.5mg and sold lots of my size 26/28 clothes on Vinted, bought a few size 24s which felt good, just wish I could lose it from my boobs!

GnomeDePlume · 28/01/2025 11:55

@Iwouldratherbesinging congratulations!

Re selling on vinted, have the larger sizes sold well?

It's saying it needs GP agreement. Which is sensible. Not saying they won't prescribe and person should just see their GP for support.

I’m also concerned about people like your niece getting it, it’s potentially dangerous. I thought it could only legally be prescribed by a doctor and to people with a BMI 30+ or 27 with additional health problems. If that was me I’d be inclined to find out where your niece got it from and report it (? not sure who to, whoever regulates the prescripting).

@Iwouldratherbesinging well done, I think a consistent weight loss is the magic of MJ, I’ve never had that even when I dieted “successfully”, I’d be up and down recycling the same lbs.

JusteanBiscuits · 28/01/2025 12:53

1.2lb gain this week.

Oh, I have asked her and she won't tell me who. She, obviously, lied on the form to get it. But it's the lack of checks from some pharmacies and just take people at their word. Photos, ID check and informing GP should be the minimum IMO.

SianyEvs40 · 28/01/2025 19:05

Afternoon everyone. Has anyone else struggled with fatigue since starting Mounjaro? I'm in week 1 and I can barely keep my eyes open (my first jab was on Saturday).

Please tell me this goes away as I was struggling to keep my eyes open sat at my desk in work 😢😢

I should add, I'm definitely eating enough calories, drinking enough and I already take a vitamin B complex to try to help with tiredness caused by antidepressants.

PinkArt · 28/01/2025 20:42

I've probably had the opposite @SianyEvs40 , as I think my blood sugar dipping was part of what was making me so tired, especially in the afternoons. Don't judge anything on the first couple of weeks symptoms though, as your body is currently getting used to the medication.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/01/2025 21:08

Yup especially the day after I jab I literally have slept in the day.

I'm not hugely managing fatigue tbh.

Thank you! They sold really well, it was mainly Seasalt, I’ve made a fair amount, spent most of it and will be patiently waiting for the postie 🤣
