Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Don't feel bad at all, @Iwouldratherbesinging we're here to celebrate each other's successes!

JusteanBiscuits · 14/01/2025 08:53

4 stone 💪8.5lb to my first big milestone. And one stone to my first "I'll never manage that" clinical milestone (to be able to have surgery I need. I've spent 3 years saying I didn't want the surgery, but really it's been to avoid facing up to losing 5 stone).

JusteanBiscuits · 14/01/2025 09:05

My top tip is using smaller plates!! I do realise this sounds idiotic, but I've found it really helpful with portion control.

It was my Mums birthday at the weekend and we went out for afternoon tea. An afternoon tea I would normally really over do it, but I ate sensibly! A few little sandwiches, 1/4 of the largest scone I have ever seen, and just a mouthful of cake. And I was perfectly happy with that. It felt really good to have that level of control.

Next weeks is sons birthday and we're going out for a seafood broil. Seafood is my favourite thing in the whole entire world so will be interesting to see how it goes!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/01/2025 10:55

Apple cinammon and peanut butter sounds great. And amazing control Justean - I think that's the sort of thing where I overeat and give myself some excuse.

I am so so weary again today. And I'm behind with the things I need to do. I just literally want to sleep. I'm a bit nauseaus too just underlying.

I made myself eat breakfast as I thought it might help the energy/nausea.

My worry of the day is the research/panorama /etc saying "up to 20%" loss on MJ. If I lose 20% thats like 4.5 stone and I'm still morbidly obese... There is hope I can lose more isn't it? I'm having an overwhelmed day today I think. I don't want to be this weak all year or I will lose my job. I think it says something that watching panorama I was thinking "well they arent trying to work as well" - although I know they had other conditions. I was surprised they didn't lose more (especially with dietician support etc) and also horrified one of their patients desperately obese / needing help was 16 stone. I haven't been 16 stone for a good while.
Just thought this would be an okay place to share all this - sorry for the negativitiy.

SilenceInside · 14/01/2025 11:04

I think it's totally understandable to have these kinds of worries @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden .

I think it's worth remembering that the weight loss quoted is the average weight loss based from the recent research trial. So, some people will have lost more, others less and we don't know what the starting weights were for people other than that they were obese. I have lost 29% of my starting weight and I'm continuing to lose weight, as I'm only a bit over half way to my target. It makes a big difference to get my BMI down from 50 to under 35, even if I'm still labelled as obese.

I'm sorry that the tiredness is still continuing. Are you taking a multivitamin at the moment? Am I right that you are waiting on a blood test from your GP?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/01/2025 12:07

Silence - you are wise as ever thankyou :)

I got the blood test back yesterday!! Thankfully I am not diabetic which was my main fear. My b12 and vit D are okay too (presumably as I supplement them). My liver something was raised and the note I got back was that it was likely due to my weight and they'd test again in 6 weeks. Also cholesterol was raised. Again probably likely due to weight. But nothing she was worried about. Given how hard it is to get an appointment I was amazed I got the feedback the same day!

Reassuring I've not broken myself completely. I am only taking B12 and vit D sprays but could get a multivitamin.

Thankyou for the positive post - your story does give me hope :)

Kay2000 · 14/01/2025 14:53

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Don’t even think about how much weight you may or may not lose. I’m focusing on getting to the under 35 BMI category. After that I’ll worry about getting to the “just overweight” one. By the laws of nature if you consistently eat fewer calories than you spend, you’ll lose weight. Drug companies will be wary of saying you can lose 50% of your weight for fear of being sued when people don’t! And this was based on limited time trials. I hardly slept last night for my neck and head pain and feel terrible today. But I’m not hungry - usually I’d comfort myself with chocolate. That’s a huge win for me.

FknOmniShambles · 14/01/2025 07:31

Morning all, hope the day has started well?
I'm feeling a bit low and nauseous this morning, and had diarrhoea this morning (sorry!)
I'm cross at myself as I weighed myself and have not lost a single ounce since Saturday... I'm being stupid as how could I expect to undo 20 years of over-eating in three days, but still. I won't weigh myself until Saturday now.

Day 2 for me . Woke up with awful stomach pain and have had diarrhoea all day and feeling so nauseous I haven't been able to eat much at all. Hope it settles for us both.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/01/2025 15:30

@Kay2000 yes I guess to someone 12 stone losing 50% of their weight would be quite drastic!!! I wish they wouldn't say "upto" though!

Yay for no chocolate - and sorry for the pain 😔. Is that something ongoing?

Kay2000 · 14/01/2025 18:28

@Miley1967 Hope it settles down quickly for you 🤞🏻

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Yes I have widespread osteoarthritis but the worst by far is my neck where I’ve been recently diagnosed with arthritis, slipping overlapping vertebrae, squished disc and bone spurs. I’m going to go ask for a MRI at some point as it's really painful during the day and worse at night. And I don’t think losing weight will help, so they can’t say that 🙄

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/01/2025 18:52

Gosh Kay that sounds really painful. I hope there's something they can do x

Kay2000 · 14/01/2025 18:55

Thanks ☺️ Dr said I needed a knee replacement but the hospital in Lancs won’t take referrals if you’re over BMI 35. I had the numbers in the wrong order at 53 🤣. But it seems ridiculous that they won’t even see me for advice, just nope, you’re obese, sorry go away. I understand the reasons why they won’t do surgery on really overweight people as recovery is harder and the risk of complications increases but 🤷‍♀️

I’m off out tomorrow for lunch for the first time since I started on this, which will be interesting. One friend knows I’m on MJ but our other friend is terminally ill so I don’t even want to mention it. I first met her at WW around 10 years ago and found out before Christmas she has incurable cancer at 59 🙁

Edited

I had a really bad hip pain for a long time and it actually has gone away since I am on Mounjaro. It is most likely combination of weight loss and reduction of inflammation in my case but hopefully as your weight goes down, your knee will improve and if not, then hopefully you'll qualify for a surgery😊. Either way I wish you all the best 👍

Kay2000 · 15/01/2025 08:24

@Lola3034 Thanks, yes that’s my hope. My biggest problem is my neck and the worse case scenario is needing surgery on that, but again losing weight will help the procedure and recovery. I doubt any neck surgeon would be happy to operate on me right now unless it was life saving.

Kay2000 · 15/01/2025 11:14

My husband is sulking today because I kicked him out of bed asked him to sleep in the spare room last night and he hates not sleeping with me. I had a much better night’s sleep 💤

I felt a little hungry last night when I hadn’t been so I’m pleased I’ve ordered the next pen to be 5mg. It could have been because I was so tired and fed up (I had 2 satsumas and a square of Waitrose chocolate which is really thick and 93 cals per square)

Kay2000 · 15/01/2025 16:05

Side effects question: I was out at lunch and when I stood up I was very light headed and felt like the room was spinning. I’ve come home, taken my blood pressure and it was quite low. I’m drinking loads now (probably didn’t drink enough over lunch, one coffee and a glass of water). Has anyone else experienced this? Is it lack of water or can MJ directly affect blood pressure? I am on BP tablets and fully expect/hope to reduce these if I lose a few stone.

Miley1967 · 15/01/2025 16:19

can anyone tell me how long this awful diarrhoea might last ? First injection sun lunchtime. All day yesterday and today explosive diarrhoea every couple of hours. I've not eaten much. Also stomach pains. Is this normal ? On the plus side I've lost over 3kg in ten days. I have tried not to take time off work but today was seriously worried I would poop my pants on a home visit to a client. I can't go on like this for days on end.

PinkArt · 15/01/2025 17:47

How much weight have you lost so far @Kay2000? My blood pressure was always the low end of normal/ high end of low but with all the weight I've gained its now a bit high. I'm hoping it drops back to normal with loss.
From my adventures with low blood pressure though it could also be that you're running on empty, so just hadn't eaten or drunk enough today.

PinkArt · 15/01/2025 17:49

@Miley1967 my first week I jabbed Friday night and was shitting water from about Tuesday to Friday. After that first week it's massively settled though. I do still get it but I have IBS-D, so that's sort of my normal.
Drink as much water as you can and also to help reduce side effects. Don't assume the first week symptoms will be reflective of the longer experience though.

Only 5lb so it’s definitely not that. I’m feeling better now I’ve drunk two cups of tea and a load of water. I’m on meds so will keep a closer eye on it and speak to my GP if it keeps happening.

FknOmniShambles · 15/01/2025 18:34

@Kay2000 i had lightheadedness on the first two days - I'm only on day 4 though, but it's definitely something I'm going to monitor.
@Miley1967 sorry you've been suffering so much, that sounds awful! Nice weight loss though...
Today was the first day I've felt hungry so I'm looking forward weirdly to jabbing this weekend. I had an orange an apple as snacks though as I'm really working on the healthy food and portion sizes still. Feeling nervous about weigh-in on Saturday morning. I can 100% feel I've lost weight but worried the scales won't show it. I don't know how I couldn't - reduced calorie intake by about 60% and gone from awful alcohol intake (from around 60 units a week, embarrassingly) to zero, which has felt great. Can't wait for wine on Friday though!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 15/01/2025 19:11

@Miley1967 I haven’t ever had that issue I’m afraid, I’m the reverse and can’t go. It sounds awful for you, hopefully it will settle down for you. I hear people talk about probiotics for gut health, that maybe something to look into as you definitely don’t want to go through this each time.

@Kay2000 I’m on meds for high BP and always suffer with dizziness on standing after sitting or bending over as my BP drops really low, I spent an afternoon with my bp monitor on experimenting 🤣. Can’t wait to get off the bloody things. It might be worth measuring your sitting to standing bp.

My blood pressure has gone down since starting Mounjaro. It used to be very low all my life but it has crept up in the recent years as I got fatter 😅. Now it is back to my" walking dead levels" of 100/60

Kay2000 · 15/01/2025 23:31

@Lola3034 “walking dead 🤣”. I know what you mean, mine was always very low too in my 20s but went up alongside my weight.
