Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

As someone who's been on it since late October (I'm about 2 1/2stone down) - set yourself mini-goals. If I went into it at 24st 5 or whatever it was I was when I ordered (I dropped a bit between ordering and starting as I'd just come off an all inclusive holiday so it was paella and cocktail weight) and thought - OK I want to get to 10stone-ish - I'd have run away in terror. Instead I've had each goal as dropping consistently through a stone barrier (as I weigh daily and it goes up and down a little bit before stabilising at the lower figure) - and so far I've gone down to the upper end of the 21stones (I'm about 21st 9 now). Getting into a one which ends in a zero is the current main goal.

Don't fixate on clothing sizes initially - the toilet roll explanation is good for this - at the start of a new loo roll, removing loads of sheets doesn't make the roll feel much smaller - but when you're getting near the tube - a couple of sheets shrinks the loo roll size a lot. I'm only at the point where I'm having to think about clothes now - and they're the ones I bought too big to start with (when I was very very large and too scared to risk buying stuff that didn't fit). I've gone from a 28/30 to about a 26 (too scared to buy 24s yet).

@Iwouldratherbesinging I have a lot of Seasalt 26/28, it’s been my go to shop for ages now. Looking forward to getting a smaller size for summer 🤞🏻

Miley1967 · 12/01/2025 21:58

Had my first jab at noon today. felt a bit lightheaded for about 30 mins and have felt a bit nauseous since.

That was pretty much my experience last Sunday with my first jab. I delayed my second until this evening and so far I feel ok. Going to sleep it off hopefully 🤞🏻

Hi! Think I’ve found my people!!
BMI 40plus
7 stone to lose.
First jab yesterday at pharmacy who is doing it all for me at £149pcm. Pharmacy weighed me & I did it in Kgs to avoid the humiliation of stones!! It was a shock but am glad I’m on it now. I’m needle phobic so don’t want to have it looking at me in fridge. I’ve felt bloated & full today. Definitely eaten less than usual. Pharmacist amazing he took it for a month was 12 stone now 11 stone he didn’t want to be advising people about it without knowing what it is firsthand!

Beachcomber74 · 12/01/2025 23:36

@Iwouldratherbesinging keep visualising the size 20!! You’ve got this

PinkArt · 13/01/2025 00:16

I'm not needle phobic @Beachcomber74 but am very squeamish and for that reason have never been able to look if I'm getting a jab or bloods. I needed to psych myself up a little for the first one but honestly it was ridiculously easy. If you want to move to doing the jabs yourself at some point it's much more ok than I thought it would be.

Kay2000 · 13/01/2025 07:53

@Beachcomber74 welcome!! I had to psych myself up to do my first injection last week and I was shaking like a leaf, but yesterday’s was fine. A tiny needle into my very fat tummy didn’t feel a thing tbh 🤣. So perhaps in time the pharmacist could supervise you doing it, it really is easier than you think.

It's crazy how much Mounjaro is working for me on such a low dose. I feel like an entirely different person.

I started at 23 stone 3lb on 29th January. I weighed last Monday and came in at 22 stone 9.7lb and today a week later I'm in at 22 stone 4.7lb. Nearly a stone off in 15 days!

I know a lot is probably water weight but I can tell I'm less bloated. It'll be a while before my clothes get too big as I wear oversized clothes and only started taking my measurements yesterday to track those but I'm quite happy for them to fit as long as possible as I can't afford a new wardrobe right now.

Eyeing up that 21 stone bracket and hoping to be 20 stone by March. Ultimate goal that I never thought I'd see again is 16 stone so there's still a long road ahead with 6.5 stone to lose but if I can get there by November I'd be over the moon.

Even when calorie counting in the past I've never had this kind of weight come off.

Lobsterteapot · 13/01/2025 12:29

@VelvetWildflower It’s exciting isn’t it! 16 stone is my target too. I got down to it a few years ago on SW and felt a million dollars.

I feel calmer and like I have more free time now im not spending it worrying about eating/planning what to eat/over eating etc

Iwouldratherbesinging · 13/01/2025 13:04

@VelvetWildflower and @Lobsterteapot I have a (1st) goal of 16st too and I’m on track, according to the app I use, to hit it on the 28th Feb which feels so close now! When I started in October it felt a million miles away.
I usually spend every January berating myself, and telling myself need to loose weight for the summer and it would never happen, but this year it will!
I love what you said Lobster, I too feel calmer, it’s a good feeling ☺️

Lobsterteapot · 13/01/2025 13:45

@Iwouldratherbesinging 28th Feb is so close! How exciting!

I hear you on the annual January misery fest (usually accompanied by signing up to another slimming club/gym) “This time will be the one” - really think this time it might be!!

26th February is so close! Well done! Being at the start of a long journey is so difficult so seeing someone already in that journey and smashing it is very inspiring!

I'm so very tired. (W1D4) Did anyone else find this? Anything I can do?

FknOmniShambles · 13/01/2025 17:51

Amazing to read @VelvetWildflower !
A stone off in a fortnight is a dream! Hope we have all had good days today?
I've had my first day at work since first injection and it's gone brilliantly. I have decided to go down the route of "a little bit if what you fancy" because in previous weight loss attempts, I've denied myself everything I enjoy which really isn't sustainable. So this morning I had a single slice of toast with some home made smoked salmon pate and peppermint tea. Lunch was a small pot of batch made chow mein and I couldn't finish it. I kept asking myself after every bite whether I was still hungry and two thirds in I realised I was full. I had an apple too. Tea is sausage and mash but a single sausage a scoop of mash and a load of veg but again, not pushing past the point of fullness.
No alcohol again and I must say that's contributed to feeling great. I've always used alcohol as a crutch and genuinely think it added another 1000 calories onto every day 😢

Make sure your fluid intake is good.

We get most of our fluid from food. Less food means less fluid.

If you feel hungry then your first thought should be 'I'll make myself a drink'. We humans are not good at knowing when we need to drink. My experience is that a drink often quells hunger pangs.

I remember at the very beginning feeling tired, just general fatigue, a few others commented saying the same, it did pass for me and I haven’t experienced it again. Everyone is different though which can be frustrating

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/01/2025 21:04

That's hopeful - thankyou.

Grumpyoldthing · 13/01/2025 21:21

Feeling very tired today- have worked 7 hours and got 10k steps in which is great but I feel like I could sleep for a week .

great news in no side effects and good appetite suppressant- easily managing 1500 cal a day , in fact biggest problem is getting that many in !

first jab was Saturday

Grumpyoldthing · 13/01/2025 21:22

No it wasn’t, it was Friday am

Curvy4life · 13/01/2025 22:18

@FknOmniShambles that is what I’m not used to - being full and not finishing every scrap on my plate. I hate waste so trying to make less and can have more later if I need it.
I was craving apples for the first few weeks and had one a day - I wonder if it helped fluid intake as I struggle to drink enough water.
Love reading everyone’s updates.
We can do this

Grumpyoldthing · 14/01/2025 07:10

I think it’s brilliant that so many seem to have very few side effects- I was completely convinced it would be horrible

FknOmniShambles · 14/01/2025 07:31

Morning all, hope the day has started well?
I'm feeling a bit low and nauseous this morning, and had diarrhoea this morning (sorry!)
I'm cross at myself as I weighed myself and have not lost a single ounce since Saturday... I'm being stupid as how could I expect to undo 20 years of over-eating in three days, but still. I won't weigh myself until Saturday now.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 14/01/2025 07:51

sorry you’re feeling a bit rubbish @FknOmniShambles, it’s so tempting to jump on the scales every day, I’m the worst for doing that but I only record my weight once a week on a Tuesday, it’s normal to have a wobble, after all nothing has ever worked for us in the past, so that little devil on our shoulders is telling us that this isn’t going to work either, but tell him to bugger off! I do find myself wishing the days away so I can get to wherever I’m going quicker.

i feel bad posting the following now 😒

Weigh day for me today, another 2lbs off, 2.2 to be exact. I’m now at 17st 0.5 lbs, so close to that 16 bracket and a stone away from my first goal!

We can do this

It took me a while to figure out portion sizes as I was trying to clear my plate as well, I think I’ve got what works for me now, I bought myself a smaller plate so it doesn’t look as empty and dish up less than I think I can eat with the idea I can have some more if I still feel I need to, 9 times out of 10 I don’t. If we have a rice or pasta type meal I put mine in a dessert bowl so it looks as if I have more.

I love pink lady apples, especially sliced with a sprinkle of cinnamon and some peanut butter, it’s my go to treat.
