Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

@Kay2000 I did 4 weeks plus the bonus dose at 2.5, then went up to a 5mg pen. I counted clicks to do two 3.75 doses before/ over Christmas as I was worried about potentially worse symptoms while I was staying with family and then two 5mgs since Christmas. Today will be a second bonus dose at 5mg and then I'm sticking at 5mg again for the next pen as it's been working so well for me.
@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden 'just overweight ' is too much of a distant dream for now. I worked out I was right at the bottom end of obese at a friends wedding, a decade or so back, and was reminded again that the low end of obese really doesn't look like the image we have in mind when we think of obese. I've got an actual jawline in the photos!

Grumpyoldthing · 10/01/2025 18:56

No side effects so far - haven’t been hungry at all today, I’m sure that’s in my head , but I have never had a Friday (my day off work ) where I have only eaten 750 kcal and I’m not hungry- normally it’s a snack on the goodies all day sort of day while I’m alone - so I’ll take that win 🥇

need to think of something for tea while I’m not peckish

FknOmniShambles · 10/01/2025 19:24

Well I've finally picked up my first dose. Don't know what I was expecting but the pharmacist just handed it over in a clear plastic bag without even breaking conversation with her colleague. Not chilled or anything. I asked her if there was anything I needed to know and she said no. So I've got home, stored it somewhere cold and will be taking first dose tomorrow.

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 19:28

@FknOmniShambles did they give you a sharps bin and needles as well? Any swabs?

Hopefully it was stored in the fridge before she gave it to you. I suppose next time you could take a small cool bag with an ice pack if it takes you a while to get home.

Everdecreasingcircle · 10/01/2025 19:28

Thanks @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
Just wanted to let others who feel like losing over ten stone is impossible know that this really works.
This medication really releases you from the want or need to overeat. It has been a godsend to me and a few of my friends are losing weight where they have struggled many times before.
I tried to block out the fact I had over ten stone to lose and just tried to focus on a little at a time. Any weight off at all was a win and it becomes the norm now to eat one bag of crisps and not a multipack 😂
My worry is maintenance when I get to a good weight. Think that will be the hard part and maybe I will be on a low dose for life.
Wishing you so much luck on your weight loss. Looking forward to hearing how well you do 😊

FknOmniShambles · 10/01/2025 19:42

@SilenceInside no sharps bin or swabs, no. Hope I've got everything I need.

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 19:46

Asda didn't supply swabs and the instructions are to swab the end of the pen before attaching the needle. I had some in my first aid kit so managed for the first injection, and then ordered a box from Amazon. One of the options when ordering from Asda is to ask for a sharps bin, if you ticked yes to that then they should have given you one. If not, they're few pounds on Amazon too.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/01/2025 17:22

@Everdecreasingcircle thats incredible!!! And v inspirstional
@PinkArt Wow just obese is what I'm aiming for and quite a few stone lower than I am. And not being obese at all feels an impossible dream!?

SW (and CW) is 140. 7 kg //22 stone 2.

It currently feels an overwhelming amount to lose. I also got my husband to. take photos and I have hidden them. They're really really depressing. I even did a bra and pants one as I thought I'd want it later but gosh. It's awful.

And took measurements too.

I'm not going to come back to them for a few months but hopefully there will be a change.

I so need this to work 😬.

I'm on week 13 and have lost 2st 3lb. I started at 21st 9lb. My best advice is repeat your photos every stone as putting them side by side is an awesome way to see how you are losing. I can't tell from looking at myself day to day but I have a photo at 21st 9lb and 19st 9lb in the same clothes and the difference is really noticeable and nice to look at to see the change as I still haven't changed clothes size although they are definitely fitting better.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/01/2025 20:39

That's fab waffle!

I'm thinking it might be a good while before I saw any clothes size changes - I'm weary stretchy clothes between 24 and 26/28 and they'll probably still fit 5 stone lighter...,

But it will be good 😊.

I'm still nervous about side effects this weekend and work but so glad to have finally started!

FknOmniShambles · 10/01/2025 21:37

That's awesome @WafflingDreamer it really is inspiring to read about people actually noticing the changes. I can't wait for that to be me!!

WafflingDreamer · 10/01/2025 21:39

vix3rd · 10/01/2025 13:21

I'm about to do my 9th Jag tonight and have lost 2stone 5lbs so far.

My only issue is that I'm having an allergic reaction to the mounjaro (only started after week 5) and have a rash over my back and torso. Did some research online and the treatment is citirizine till my body gets used to the medication.

It was a bit itchy last night & I was thinking is this itchiness worth it ? should I just stop the meds ?
Then I got up this morning & had lost another 3lbs and oh my god it is worth it.
Itchiness be damned !

It's funny you mentioned a rash. I've had a rash on my legs, but it's only really bothered me when I'm at work. I wear scrubs washed by the hospital and thought they'd changed how they wash them but it might be a slight reaction to mounjaro.

Everdecreasingcircle · 10/01/2025 16:55

For all those on the longhaul Mounjaro journey……This Mounjaro journey is certainly the easiest I have ever found it in my yo yo dieting of 35+ years.
I have lost 94lbs now in 34 weeks and am looking forward to my next goal of 7stone off with 4lbs to go. Just wanted to let those people on here who have a lot to lose that it does work and I have still not gone above 7.5mg. Never needed to as losing consistently and any higher I think I would struggle to eat. Inner food monster totally disappeared and no interest in raiding the fridge anymore. I’m down 5 clothes sizes and feel great although I still have a few stone to go. Keep going guys it is SO worth it.

Sorry I missed your comment earlier. Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve now read through this whole thread and it’s so inspiring. Firstly to hear people’s consistent losses but also the small wins that no one ever talks about like being able to wipe your bum more easily or tie shoe laces 😅

Grumpyoldthing · 10/01/2025 21:49

I honestly can’t believe I’m getting into bed , full to bloated, and I have only had 1200 calories.
I had to make myself eat a last banana.

I know I’m only 14 hours in . But I’m quietly optimistic, this is going to change my life

Kay2000 · 10/01/2025 21:49

FknOmniShambles · 10/01/2025 19:42

@SilenceInside no sharps bin or swabs, no. Hope I've got everything I need.

I ordered a sharps bin when I ordered the pen. The needles were inside the box, so check that. I didn’t have any swabs so didn’t use one but have bought a box from Amazon for next time.

PinkArt · 10/01/2025 22:02

Similarly to @WafflingDreamer I'm redoing photos and measurements with the start of a new pen. Second set of measurements were depressingly similar to when I started so I'm hopeful they've shifted a bit more next week.

FknOmniShambles · 11/01/2025 08:21

Well, first dose taken. I feel a bit weird and skaky but I'm not very good with needles. But it's so small though to was entirely painless. Going to record my weight today and download a weight loss tracking app. I am ready for this!!

Kay2000 · 11/01/2025 10:49

We can do this @FknOmniShambles I was same, shaking like a leaf but as I said to my husband that tiny needle going into a mound of fat didn’t hurt at all 🤣. I’m going to do my second tomorrow.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 11/01/2025 11:40

It’s so lovely to read that all you new starters are amazed by this, I can’t wait to read how you have all done next week. Please keep in mind that the huge first week losses are mostly in the minority, yes it would be lovely to have but it’s not guaranteed, it’s mostly water weight and your bodies stored level of glycogen, and depends on what you ate the weeks before starting, you’ll be peeing loads! I’ve seen losses recorded of 14lbs or more! But the average is around 3 - 5lbs (1.3 - 2.3 kg). I lost 4lbs my first week and I did feel a little disheartened, but I had already lost weight before starting by 5:2 fasting.
I wonder what we can all achieve this year??

Iwouldratherbesinging · 11/01/2025 11:56

I have a burning question….
I watched the Oprah Winfrey documentary on Disney+ ‘Blame, shame and the weight loss revolution’ yesterday (it made me quite emotional) and it got me thinking about choices I have made throughout my life and the question around willpower.
I have been made to think that I am fat and lazy due to my lack of willpower and my lack of ability to say no. I definitely have disordered eating (not so much now) and I have spent the last few years eating as little as possible.
Has anyone else done or felt this? I would go as long as I possibly could without eating anything and found it really easy to do, then, as soon as I ate something it’s like a dam had burst and I just wanted more and more… I was scared of eating three meals a day as the thought of me doing this after every meal was terrifying.
Why did I do this over and over for years knowing that it wasn’t healthy or normal, I wouldn’t binge as such but I didn’t have the willpower to stop.

FknOmniShambles · 12/01/2025 07:31

Good morning fellow (weight) losers, how are we today?
I feel fab this morning, touch wood. I ate well yesterday and drank no alcohol as I'm knocking that on the head for the most part too. I've woken up feeling well and, noticeably, not craving food as I usually would.
No side effects so far. I know it's very early days but I find myself daring to consider the possibly of doing things I never thought I would - travelling on a plane again, physical activities, long walks...

Everdecreasingcircle · 12/01/2025 07:53

@FknOmniShambles That’s great you feeling good this morning. Wishing you well on your MJ journey. I’ve been on it since May and am still losing well. Gives you the confidence to know that you can lose the weight without fighting cravings all the time and look forward to your goals of travel and long walks. I plan to go travelling and maybe horse riding again without killing the poor horse 🐴

Kay2000 · 12/01/2025 09:13

Week 1 weigh-in and I’m 5lb lighter than last week, quite happy with that. Appetite is still suppressed as I’m about to do second jab later today, so I’m a bit concerned I won’t want to eat at all. I actually forgot lunch yesterday until 3 o’clock! When friends have told me they “forget to eat” I’ve never understood how that was even possible! I had my usually Saturday night pizza from Morrisons and usually I eat it and could eat more, but I left two pieces on the plate. So last week’s dose is definitely still suppressing my appetite. Can’t believe it’s working so well.

@Iwouldratherbesinging I controlled my eating when I was younger with periods of dieting and guilt if I did eat but over the past 10 years or so I’ve basically given up and eaten freely with occasional attempts to following SW or low carb diets. I wouldn’t say my eating is disordered at all now but definitely between 20-40 it was.

@FknOmniShambles Pleased you had no side effects from yesterday. I’m going to make a list in my journal of things I can look forward to doing when I’m slimmer. I’m not sure how improved my arthritis will get, so I’m not planning long walks or anything yet, but I’d love to be able to go to see a show in London again, walk into a restaurant and sit down without worrying if I’ll fit in the chair and go to a Spa as a birthday treat and fit into the white robes like the other women.

Grumpyoldthing · 12/01/2025 10:45

Going well as in no negative side effects.

I seemed to have strong suppression on the first day but I’m not sure about since .

I definitely can’t eat as much in a sitting which is great

Kay2000 · 12/01/2025 11:43

Thought of another thing. I want to fit back into my Gudrun clothing. I grew out the XL, then the XXL which is their largest size. I’d be very happy to fit into the L comfortably.

I’ve been following this British physio on YouTube for some time to help with my pain. He specialises in over 50s but I’m sure any age would benefit. I bought some resistance bands from Amazon and have been doing them daily for my neck and knees. I’m going to start gently introducing the rest of my body to them 😬

Iwouldratherbesinging · 12/01/2025 13:17

@Kay2000 i love gudrun clothing but have only ever been able to fit into their oversized xxl once, I’m very tempted to buy something (on Vinted) to aim to fit into it. I’ve just listed my Seasalt tunics and dresses as they all drown me now, it’s a very bitter sweet feeling 😆 going to gradually replace them with smaller sizes, then hopefully rinse and repeat…
