Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

BookishBabe · 09/12/2024 05:43

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

@Miley1967 the recommended schedule is to move up to the next dose after 4 weeks on the current dose. But, if you are getting a lot of appetite suppression and you are losing weight, you don't need to move up to the next dose level if you don't want to.

I did 4 x 2.5mg, then 4 x 5mg, then did a gradual move up to 7.5mg over 4 weeks as I'd had some gastric upset half way through the 5mg doses. I was worried about going straight up to 7.5mg. Then, I've stayed on 7.5mg for about 16 weeks now. I am losing weight consistently, I have enough suppression and few or no side effects. I won't move up to 10mg until I'm either not losing weight consistently or I'm not getting the right level of suppression that I'm happy with.

FknOmniShambles · 09/01/2025 18:57

Well, I messaged ASDA and the pics were approved a couple of hours later. Will collect it tomorrow afternoon and probably take the first dose on Saturday.
Someone told me if you take the first dose immediately, it doesn't have to be refrigerated... Is that right? I was just planning on keeping it in the fridge in some innocuous container.

SilenceInside · 09/01/2025 19:09

The instructions about storage (on the paper leaflet in the box with the pen) explain that once used, ie you've done the first dose, the pen should only be kept for 30 days. It doesn't matter at that point if that's in the fridge or not, as long as it's less than 30 deg C.

For long term storage, unused, it must be in the fridge and can be kept until the expiry date.

FknOmniShambles · 09/01/2025 19:50

Thanks @SilenceInside much appreciated!

Kay2000 · 09/01/2025 21:15

@FknOmniShambles Pleased they approved you, wonder why they’re so slow?
Several providers say it should ideally be kept in the fridge, others say not. I’m keeping mine in the fridge.

I am jabbing tomorrow! Finally!

Edited

Friday is my injection day too @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden . It will be my 27th injection tomorrow I think!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 21:52

Wahooo silence! It's been great to read your comments. I hope I'll be where you are in 27 weeks 😊

SilenceInside · 09/01/2025 21:55

I hope so too. It seems like no time at all, and for once I'm actually looking forward to the summer as I should be at goal and maintaining by then. Normally I dread the prospect of hot weather.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 22:01

Ha yes I melt.

Grumpyoldthing · 10/01/2025 10:08

Ok everyone that’s put up with my 6 week long procrastination 🤣

I took my first dose this morning! (I use the term I loosely, I tried not to cry and my husband did it 🫣)

10/01/25 1st dose

start weight 305.4
first target- under 300

daily steps average about 7000 currently (during the week)

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 10:20

@Grumpyoldthing brilliant that you've started and great that your DH was able to help with it. My DH is needle-phobic and prone to passing out after things like blood tests and vaccines! I can't even talk about medical things without him starting to look pale.

I've put this on the July starters thread but thought I'd update here as well:

Current stats at the end of week 27:
SW: 139kg (21st 12 lbs, 306lbs)
CW: 98.4kg (15st 6 lbs), was 99.3kg (15st 8lbs) last week
GW: 90kg (14st 2 lbs) fourth interim goal.

My weekly losses to date have been:
-9, -2, -7, -3, -6, -4, -1, -4, -3, -4, -3, -5, -2, -7, -3, -2, -4, 1, -5, -2, -6, 0, -3, -1, -2, -1, -2

Happy with the 2lb loss this week, which puts me at 90lbs lost since I started Mounjaro, and just over 55% of my way towards my final goal weight, and almost 30% of my starting weight lost. Again this week, the scales were actually showing lower in the middle of the week, before settling slightly higher today. I've learnt to expect it now and not be put off by it!

Grumpyoldthing · 10/01/2025 10:28

Wow that’s amazing!!! And we are just about same starting weight - it is inspiring to see where I could be in 27 weeks.

what do you do for exercise? X

SilenceInside · 10/01/2025 10:32

Ah, I'm a very bad example as I don't do any formal exercise at the moment. I've been increasing my walking in my daily life and my general activity levels - I don't sit around anywhere near as much as I used to. My house is cleaner and tidier as a result!

I keep meaning to start with some strengthening exercises, but haven't quite got round to working out what and when. I have 2 children, one with SEN, and don't have a huge amount of time to myself.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 10/01/2025 11:17

@Grumpyoldthing wahoo! Fingers crossed everything goes brilliantly for you

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden isnt it your first jab today? How’d it go?

Grumpyoldthing · 10/01/2025 11:26

Also , just so you know, if you have a blue light card you get 35% off at MedExpress on first order

i didn’t know, but emailed their support telling them I had a card but didn’t know I could get discount

and they have added £45 to my account for the next one

Lobsterteapot · 10/01/2025 13:10

That is incredible @SilenceInside so inspiring for us newbies!

I’m a Friday gal too @Grumpyoldthing and @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden had my second injection today, feeling much more confident with it.

Bought new scales and was 24,6 this morning. This is my starting point and it is what it is - the last time I’m going to weigh this much! Feeling positive.

vix3rd · 10/01/2025 13:21

I'm about to do my 9th Jag tonight and have lost 2stone 5lbs so far.

My only issue is that I'm having an allergic reaction to the mounjaro (only started after week 5) and have a rash over my back and torso. Did some research online and the treatment is citirizine till my body gets used to the medication.

It was a bit itchy last night & I was thinking is this itchiness worth it ? should I just stop the meds ?
Then I got up this morning & had lost another 3lbs and oh my god it is worth it.
Itchiness be damned !

Kay2000 · 10/01/2025 13:28

Well done @Grumpyoldthing , I started on Sunday and I was worried I couldn’t inject myself as when I was a student nurse about 100 years ago we were told to inject our thighs and I couldn’t. Nope. Not ever. But I watched the YouTube videos and, shaking like a leaf, did it. My hubby passes out when he has a blood test so he really was last resort!

@SilenceInside Very inspiring as Grumpy says to see what we can hopefully achieve. My starting weight was 22st and I have no idea what my goal is - 150lb off would get me to what I was before I got pregnant 25 years ago, but that just seems impossible. One stone at a time I think.

I was expecting my jab to not do much but it’s been incredible. I’m not thinking about eating or food. At all. Up until today I have still been enjoying my meals but today (I expected it to be wearing off by now?) I’m even less hungry. Only one dose, is this normal? I actually feel hopeful I can lose weight. What strikes me about your losses, Silence, is the consistency. I’m used to - if I manage to stick to a diet long enough - losing 2lb, gain 1, lose half, gain 2 etc. I really hope I get consistent results too.

Everdecreasingcircle · 10/01/2025 16:55

For all those on the longhaul Mounjaro journey……This Mounjaro journey is certainly the easiest I have ever found it in my yo yo dieting of 35+ years.
I have lost 94lbs now in 34 weeks and am looking forward to my next goal of 7stone off with 4lbs to go. Just wanted to let those people on here who have a lot to lose that it does work and I have still not gone above 7.5mg. Never needed to as losing consistently and any higher I think I would struggle to eat. Inner food monster totally disappeared and no interest in raiding the fridge anymore. I’m down 5 clothes sizes and feel great although I still have a few stone to go. Keep going guys it is SO worth it.

PinkArt · 10/01/2025 17:08

Definitely don't think about the end goal yet @Kay2000, I found it felt too big a challenge. I started at 19st 9 and my first goal was 17st 13 - as it would be out of the 18s, back to 'just obese' and have undone about a year and a half of damage. I weighed in today at 17st 12 so have now set the next one at 15st 4 as I'm pretty sure that was my starting weight when I lost about 4 stone a decade ago.
Ultimately I'm aiming for around 11st something as a potentially realistic end goal, or 10st something as a pushing my luck given I'm definitely not 21 any more but who knows goal!
I had good suppression from the first dose too - we definitely both got lucky on that front. I'm on 5mg now and today is jab day but I still don't really feel hungry. The loss of food noise is what's been the best part of it for me. I never ate especially big portions but grazed on sugary snacks all the time. I'm just not fussed. I had my free birthday doughnut from Lidl this week and enjoyed it as much as ever but wouldn't have been bothered about a doughnut either way otherwise - witchcraft!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/01/2025 17:22

@Everdecreasingcircle thats incredible!!! And v inspirstional
@PinkArt Wow just obese is what I'm aiming for and quite a few stone lower than I am. And not being obese at all feels an impossible dream!?

SW (and CW) is 140. 7 kg //22 stone 2.

It currently feels an overwhelming amount to lose. I also got my husband to. take photos and I have hidden them. They're really really depressing. I even did a bra and pants one as I thought I'd want it later but gosh. It's awful.

And took measurements too.

I'm not going to come back to them for a few months but hopefully there will be a change.

I so need this to work 😬.

Kay2000 · 10/01/2025 17:34

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Snap! My weight I sent to Asda is the same as yours 22st 2lb but by the time my pen came I was 22 bang on. Let’s both aim to be obese not morbidly obese and to get that tape measure round easily!! I’ve printed my photos for out and hidden them away in my journal for my eyes only.

Did you go straight to 5mg in month 2? I’m thinking if I still have no appetite why go up although I know. 5mg is supposed to be the dose you stay on. I’m going to see how I am this time next week before ordering my next pen.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/01/2025 17:54

It's great to be starting with you Kay. I'm hoping for under 20stone initially (gosh even writing that sounds bad. I was 17 stone when I first worried about health issues and more urgently tried to lose weight 😬😢)

I think I'm no longer morbidly obese if I lose 4.5stone so a good goal :)

I have decided I will have to push through side effects but I do an in person job and so wished I wfh. I'm looking at. A lower paid wfh job at the moment but it's a lot lower pay...,
