Mounjaro, 10st or more to lose.

Hello fellow mounjaro users or people thinking about starting. I have seen there is a thread for people needing to lose 5 stone plus, but even there I felt a little bit big.
I need to lose 12 stone, and even then my BMI would be 33.
Alot of people seem to be starting mounjaro with a starting BMI of 33, so I think it sometimes feels better to be among people who have the same amount to lose, 12 stone feels so daunting and scary. It's going to be a long battle.

This is my final chance before weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do or risk.
I am 32 years old and have 2 young sons (7 and 5), one is disabled and the other is struggling and is on a reduced timetable at school. They need me to be around for a very long time and at the moment I feel like I am failing them.

I started calorie counting/a calorie controlled diet last Monday (2nd December). I was thinking about putting it off because of Christmas, but I can always come up with an excuse, so I decided to just go for it.

I weighed in at 27st and 7lbs.
At 5 ft 8 that gave me a BMI of 58.5!!!

I had some blood tests in March which showed I was prediabetic, I have done precisely nothing since then to do anything about it and have buried my head in the sand!

My mounjaro was delivered Tuesday afternoon and I took my first jab on Wednesday morning. I think its working slightly now, but I didn't feel any different for the first 3 days, but I'm either used to eating less (unlikely in 7 days) or the mounjaro has started to take effect.

So, one week in, calorie controlled diet every day, trying to get lots of protein, drinking loads, a few days of mounjaro in my system.

Weigh day time,

drum roll

26st and 11lbs!!!! 🥳

10lbs gone. I am very happy with that. I used to be able to lose 15lbs in a week when I was younger, but I was much more active back then and thanks to being so overweight I do struggle with activity.

BMI is now 57! So I've lost 1.5 on my BMI. Fingers crossed I can keep this going, I just need the number to keep going down! I'm really hoping I can be in a healthier and happier place with myself.

So, long post over.

Does anyone with 10st or more to lose want to join me here?

I know its daunting but I think if anyone feels like me, this is probably our last hope before surgery and our health is probably starting to decline or already has due to the weight we have on our bodies.

Hey everyone 👋🏻
Hows everyone doing?
I've had my first 5mg jab today, I'm hoping it helps as I have had some cravings since Christmas.
I have lost a few pounds from the Christmas weight gain.

Whats everyone else doing for exercise? The exercise wouldn't be for weight loss for me, it's to work on my fitness as can't walk long distances anymore.

I'm trying to build up walking v slowly. I'm v sedentary. I've tried it before and my lower legs cramp and hurt and it's been a proplem for a few years. I think it's like an "overuse" injury like someone else starting to run a marathon but my level of sedentary means trying to walk with 20stone of weight is too much.

So I'm aiming for 10 slowcontinuous minutes (and then 4 as that's how far it is back to my house.) 3 x a week then. I'll build it up I think.

I keep reading about strength exercises needed while losing lots of weight too...

VelvetWildflower · 08/01/2025 14:38

No exercise for me. I need to prioritise weight loss first so for the first two or three months I'll diet alone and then add in exercise from the spring. I don't want to get into the habit of eating more due to expending more energy right now so sticking with a low calorie diet and hoping the willpower becomes a habit.

Weighed this morning and was half a pound more than yesterday which was disheartening but I'm not giving up. Husband made buttermilk American pancakes with maple syrup and bacon so I had 3/4 of a pancake, one rasher of air fried bacon and a little maple syrup. Had soup for lunch so still have around 1000 calories for dinner (burger bowls which should be no more than 500 calories).

I've found that my general activity levels have increased, according to my daily step count. Before I started, I found it hard to make my daily step target (which was low anyway). Now I easily make it without having to do additional walking. Just because I'm so much lighter so I do so much more around the house and generally whilst out and about. I nip up and down stairs to get things where before I might have asked someone else or left it until I absolutely had to move.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 08/01/2025 15:16

Wow that's fantastic silence. I'm currently at the "ask evreyone else to get it for me" stage.,

I will just do gentle things now u think but as I lose weight would love to do a bit more.

WafflingDreamer · 08/01/2025 16:11

I have a step goal of 6000, I average it out over the week as on my three work days I can never be sure how many steps I'll get in so my current goal is 45000 a week and my plan is to gradually build it up to get it up to 70000 then ultimately I'd like to get to around 100000. I used to walk loads but stopped with lock down and never restarted as I gained weight and the kids were little. I think I'd like to join a gym eventually for some classes or maybe zumba type group. I've never actually done any exercise as an adult apart from walking so I have no idea what I'd enjoy.

SilenceInside · 08/01/2025 16:19

I would like to go to a pilates class as my first step back into more organised exercise but I'm not going to go until I am no longer obese and nearer to a healthy weight. I should probably add that as a formal goal to my long list of mini-goals!

Iwouldratherbesinging · 08/01/2025 17:29

I struggle getting steps in durning the week as I’m tied to my desk 8 hours a day, I did buy a sit/stand desk, so I do try to walk on the spot… sometimes! I’m also trying to use the upstairs loo rather than the one downstairs. But I do like the low impact HIIT exercises, they are gentle on the joints, it’s just too cold to do anything at the moment! Don’t we burn more calories when it’s cold? ☺️

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 08/01/2025 18:11

I don't walk a lot in the day and I know it's a problem. I am job hunting at the moment and stressed far too much

One of my goals is to be able to do yoga with adrienne. At the moment my pregnant looking belly is in the way of even stretching 😬. I did wonder if I'll still have to move skin around but it surely would be better without girth.

I've had a disappointing moment but turning it into a positive -

I ordered a smart tape measure on a whim after seeing it on a thread. It doesn't reach round my stomach. Or even near 😬😬😬. I can manually enter results but gosh how embarrassing.

But the positive is in hoping this will soon change. I start in 2 days now!!! It's felt like such a long journey to even get to the starting line.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 08/01/2025 18:12

I want to take before photos and measurements but am a bit scared to.

Does anyone have a good way to save them?

SilenceInside · 08/01/2025 18:21

Some of the tracking apps let you add photos. MFP does and a weight tracker that I use, MyWeight, does too.

Does the app that came with the smart tape measure let you add pictures?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 08/01/2025 18:34

No frustratingly. It's renpho like the scales but the tape is really thin and I wonder if I would be better off pen and paper! I guess I won't lose it.

I'm going to end up with 100 apps....

I did my measurements on Sunday before my first injection and the dressmaker’s tape measure literally “just” went round me at 60”. So my first goal is for the tape measure to go round with an inch to spare 😬
If you have Excel, I bought this weight loss tracker from Etsy, and I’m very impressed with it. You log your weight, goals, measurements etc and it calculates for you.

Grumpyoldthing · 08/01/2025 20:20

It’s arrived !!

only thing is I’m scared of messing up with the injection 🤣

im going to get my husband to help me tomorrow after work, as I don’t work again then till Monday so I’m hoping any side effects are more known / passed .

im also under the impression that its most effective for appetite control the few days after the jab , and I tend to munch away all weekend so hopefully that will help

exercise wize , I have done 7000 steps for the last four days. I don’t seem to do enough over the weekend so my main aim is to up steps then - I was going to do park run (walk) but they have bloody cancelled it because of the ice this Saturday 😀

Iwouldratherbesinging · 08/01/2025 20:40

@Grumpyoldthing yay! Good luck for tomorrow
I find day 2, 3 and 4 my appetite is less and get full very quickly and the fullness can last for a while. I also found if I ate lunch about 1 -1:30 I didn’t want dinner at our usual time (6:30/7 ish) so on the days I know I have no appetite I’ll have either something really light or have breakfast late and skip lunch as I don’t want to be eating dinner at 9 in the evening.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 08/01/2025 20:48

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden thats an excellent goal to aim for, well all be patiently waiting for the ‘yippee, the tape measure fits’ post 🤣 from both you and @Kay2000

I take photos on my phone and put them in a hidden folder, Apple has a photo folder that lets you hide photos and can only be opened with face recognition or password.
I record measurements with old fashioned pen and paper, it stays folded up in a little zip bag with the needles and swabs.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 08/01/2025 21:31

I've been in a bit of a plateau - still got a full 5mg pen to start on Friday, but ordered 7.5mg as the next step up as the food noise and snackccidents are happening again. Hopefully it'll woosh out eventually - if not I'll aim for staying stable for a couple of weeks and then push it again. At least it's a stall and not an increase!

FknOmniShambles · 08/01/2025 21:38

My photos still haven't been approved with ASDA - getting a bit frustrated 😤

Have they said why they're rejecting them?

Have you rung them? I rang them up and they approved mine within a couple of hours.

FknOmniShambles · 08/01/2025 22:08

They haven't been rejected - just sitting on "awaiting review." It's been a couple of days now so interesting to hear they reviewed @Kay2000 in a couple of hours!

Mine was still under review earlier. I just sent an email reply to theirs asking how long I should expect to wait and has now been approved and ready to pick up friday.

A couple of hours after I rang them I meant. They’d had them for about 6 days, although that was over Christmas.

PinkArt · 08/01/2025 23:16

@Grumpyoldthing try watching a video of how the pen works first. It's actually incredibly easy but I found the instructions made it much more complicated in my brain. Once I'd seen what priming the needle meant in practice, and that it's further than I'd have assumed to twist for the dose, then doing it myself was easier.

I store measurements, exports from my scales and photos on my WhatsApp chat with myself as it was easiest. I'm might add measurements to The Spreadsheet but it's getting a bit clunky between weights, projected losses, BMI, dose level etc.

Miley1967 · 08/01/2025 23:33

Please can someone tell me how you know when you need a higher dose ? Is it just a matter of how much I'm losing ?
