Anyone else lost their bottom? Pic attached - be warned!

My bottom is literally as flat as a pancake. I'm not in the first flush of youth either so it's probably worse than it would be if I was say, 25!

Anyone else?

Honestly agree with everyone saying build glutes - and you can gradually move to a squat.

I do 24 every day now - 12 whilst brushing teeth and 12 more when boiling the kettle.

Yes it will help cosmetically but even more importantly it will help stabilize your pelvis and keep you functionally fit - this is ESSENTIAL to a high quality of life in your later years

Fuck me, can you not tell from the context that the OP has lost weight and that's why her bum looks different to her?!

A LOT OF is what I asked, I have no idea what she weighed previously or what her bum looked like.
Fuck me can you not tell from the context thats what I meant?

UpOnTheHousetop · 28/11/2024 16:54

I have read that up to 40% of weightloss on injectables will be muscle mass, so perhaps you have lost muscle as well as fat on your bum

Moier · 28/11/2024 17:03

Mine actually looks bigger.. I've lost weight from my hips/ thighs/ waist but not my bum.. so with loosing weight from other places it looks bigger...but my measurements say I've lost some.
Think I've lost most from my face and décolletage.. that's where people notice.
I've lost 3 stone in 16 weeks. About to start 12.5.
Well done to you.

I just thought they were medical rather than cosmetic
Not judging anyone who takes that route, I have considered it myself I just thought you had to have a very high BMI for it to be prescribed

Obese (rather than morbidly obese) often looks a lot smaller than the image we all have in our heads when we think of an obese person. At 5'7" the last time my BMI was 30 I was wearing size 14 skirts and dresses. I wasn't waif like by any stretch but I don't think anyone would have believed me if I said I wasn't just medically overweight but was actually medically obese.
The before photo of the OP (who has done a cracking job with that weight loss) is what a lot of obese people look like. I'm currently at the lower end of morbidly obese and hope I'm as successful with Mounjaro's assistance.

Weight bearing/ strength exercise is vital while someone is losing weight
I have never understood why people start weight training after they have lost the weight
Strength training, low impact cardio and Pilates/ Yoga /callanetic type exercises are great exercises to do for peri menopausal/ menopausal women

I naturally had no bum to speak of, so I started doing kettlebell swings every day, and now I haver a decent arse. Could be worth a try?

Kettlebell swings are excellent

This was already addressed and explained in @Losingthetimber’s knowledgeable post up thread. The issue is not the GLP1 injections but any weight-loss regime with insufficient protein and exercise.

SouthernFashionista · 29/11/2024 07:11

I would be concerned about this OP. How old are you? The photo has the look of someone around 70 I would say - as others say you need to focus on building up muscle very quickly to avoid serious issues.

babasaclover · 29/11/2024 07:33

Sorry about the bum. Did you know you can get like a push up pair of knickers? With fillet things? Good for the odd occasion you need them.

You look fabulous though, I'm only a size 12/14 but too curvy. I'd love to have that lovely flat stomach!!!

What a vile thing to say and completely untrue! She looks nothing like 70!! She looks her age.

Summerhillsquare · 29/11/2024 07:46

Lexy70 · 28/11/2024 11:34

Yes, same pancake arse here. But in the scale of losing over three stone I'll take the flat arse!! X

Same here, after 1.5 stone loss. I had a lovely squishy bum. It's all resettled itself on my abdomen after initially loosing quite evenly, so the 28 inch waist is going to remain a dream! But so grateful not to be obese anymore.

missfliss · 29/11/2024 09:21

Also agree that protein intake is really important to weight loss to guard against muscle wastage alongside resistance training.

I get a minimum of 100g protein a day - usually more like 125-140g. I strength train too 3-4 times a week for 30-45 mins.

Muscle is so so important - even more so as we age

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 29/11/2024 09:53

As everyone has said, squats will help but you really need to eat sufficient protein if you want any chance of making your glutes physically bigger. You won’t gain muscle if you don’t eat for it. Body weight squats are a good start but you need to add weight and progressively overload to build muscle.

You can start by doing squats at home. Stand with the back of your legs against the sofa, then lower yourself down. Repeat. Then go from there. Hold on to something if you feel unstable.

Getting a PT would be good, then you know your form is good.

FergussSingsTheBlues · 29/11/2024 09:55

Op you look fucking awesome 💪💪

StolenStares · 29/11/2024 10:14

It's expensive but I continued with weekly PT sessions when I started the injections (had been working out with her for over a year prior to starting injections but not managing to lose weight) and it's all strength training. Lots of squats, split squat variations, deadlifts, core work etc. I'm still seeing a flattening of my bum to some extent but my feeling is that it's important to do as much as I can to counteract muscle loss as far as that's possible rather than trying to rebuild lost muscle once it's gone. The hardest thing is trying to eat enough protein, I don't know how it's possible without shakes or supplements and I cannot imagine the added difficulty of doing it on a vegan diet. I had pelvic floor issues after childbirth and the strength training has made an unbelievable difference, I can't recommend it enough for women. I don't know what kind of shape I'll end up with, I have a few months of weight loss still ahead of me as I'm going slow and steady at 1-2lbs a week; three stone down since July and another three stone to go. But strength, balance and mobility are my priorities over aesthetics.

There are exercises I do at home: loads of glute bridges - they're very effective. Squats and deadlifts with a kettlebell. Fire hydrants. Side planks and deadbugs for core. But getting a PT to ensure you do it all with correct form is invaluable.

Stressfordays · 29/11/2024 10:25

We never lose the weight from where we want to! I'm the opposite, completely lost any boobs I had and I am going gaunt looking on my top half but still big on my bum/hips/thighs. You can try exercise to even yourself out a bit but natural shape plays a huge part in body composition.

missfliss · 29/11/2024 11:15

I hope OP that you aren't feeling at all like those of us advocating for muscle building are suggesting you haven't achieved something awesome already - you absolutely have. Well done!

Just want to stress that the advice re protein and strength training is really for more than aesthetics ( though they are a happy by product) it's about functional fitness and strength and quality of life above all else x

PoliticallyErect · 29/11/2024 12:02

@SouthernFashionista ha ha. Your comment has made my day! You're not trying to err put me down a little bit are you? Surely not! Grin

PoliticallyErect · 29/11/2024 12:05

@missfliss oh no, I'm fine thank you! I'm really up for building strength and concentrating even more on my protein and I know it's crucial for me to do so.

OP posts:
PoliticallyErect · 29/11/2024 12:10

And I don't really look like a frail 70 year old - especially from the front! I'm a solid size 10 and I'm really not a total weakling! I've gone up and down weight wise over the years but when a normal weight like now, my legs / bum /hips tend to be slim and my top half tend to be a bit bigger - I'm shaped like a parsnip!

I would be interested in your typical menu if you want to spill?

Where did you read that. 😂 you can’t seriously think that injectibles, any of them, make you lose muscle, like some sort of magic?

do folks not understand their own bodies. Didn’t everyone do biology. Losing weight , through any method doesn’t mean muscle loss, it only means that if you don’t exercise and eat enough protein, the medication is irrelevant.

PoliticallyErect · 29/11/2024 12:30

@Sunshineandrainbow thanks! And a very typical day would be ..

Oats/berries/flax/yogurt/chia seeds for breakfast

Sourdough sandwich with salad, quorn or feta or roasted veg / sun dried tomatoes with balsamic glaze and a bag of crisps or roasted chickpeas and sweet potato bowl with tofu

Dinner is noodles or tofu with roasted veg or mushroom lentil bolognaise with spaghetti

Snacks are a couple of plant based babybels, a protein shake and my addiction ... Tru Fru! (Don't Google, you don't need them in your life!) maybe a couple of clementines or a Trek bar

So it's that sort of thing really. I average about 1400-1500 calories a day and protein can be a bit hard for me as I'm vegan

WhatsitWiggle · 29/11/2024 12:30

Congrats on the weight loss.

Definitely add in weight training. You don't need to be bench pressing 100kg but progressively loading your muscles will grow them and give you strength.

Go slow and you won't pull anything. You'll be sore after the first time, just stretch and give it 48 hours before doing anything else. Start with body weight movements, then add external weight slowly.

Rachel Henley Fitness (on instagram) has a home workout 10 week programme - Wiggle Your Bits - and she's just about to launch an app too which will be £5 a month and includes videos of all the movements. She's rather sweary so avoid if that's likely to offend, but I like that she tells it like it is.
