Anyone else lost their bottom? Pic attached - be warned!

My bottom is literally as flat as a pancake. I'm not in the first flush of youth either so it's probably worse than it would be if I was say, 25!

Anyone else?

Op this is nothing to do with injectables. The pp is Ill informed.

it is everything to do with weight loss. And it is the same in any weight loss journey, irrelevant of how you do it.

if you don’t eat enough protein you lose muscle mass as well as fat. And if you don’t exercise on your journey then any muscle you have remaining will be small and result in what you see in the mirror.

you need to up your protein and exercise. It is critical as we age and as we lose weight as strength is critical.

i think a lot of folks just don’t understand losing weight isn’t just about the scales and dress size, it’s about making sure you lose fat and not muscle and that you build up your muscle and eat enough protein in your diet.

and the protein requirement is high, I think it’s a gram for every kilo you way ideally and that’s hard to pack in on a reduced calorie diet.

i will be honest, because it got to this stage it will be hard to remedy but it is hugely possible and absolutely fixable but it will take work now.

This is true, BUT losing weight fast is more likely to give you saggy bits and loose skin as there’s no time for the skin to adapt. And injectables do tend to give much faster weight loss rates.

I think you just agreed with me, and for most people, the injectibles dint give faster weight loss, it’s a couple of pounds a week on average, some more some less. It is irrelevant though, it is nothing to do with speed of loss and absolutely everything to do with protein intake and exercise.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 28/11/2024 12:19

It's also very little to do with aesthetics (although a peachy bum is lovely) and everything to do with preserving and building as much muscle mass as possible as we age, especially after menopause. Most adults in sedentary jobs have weak glutes and they can store up all sorts of problems.

PoliticallyErect · 28/11/2024 12:27

Thanks for all the advice, very useful

I'm not sure if the weight loss could be classed as very rapid .. I started in April weighing nearly 15 stone and I'm now just under 10. I'm not tall though so I could comfortably lose a little more but probably won't now.

So that's nearly 5 stone in 8 months. It's fairly quick

My exercise consists of walking and spin classes and I've been busy these past couple of months so they've fallen by the wayside / and besides, I know it's really important to focus on strength building as I get older

Protein intake tricky for me as a vegan. I average 50g of protein a day

I own every piece of free weights equipment that there is - so I really just find a good beginner programme and actually pick a weight up at some point soon!

@PoliticallyErect if you are interested in a book then I highly recommend Strong Curves by Bret Contreras. On YouTube Caroline Girvan is brilliant and (crucially) non-irritating for strength training.

Losingthetimber · 28/11/2024 12:34

Walking doesn’t really do much op unless it’s long distance, fast, and often, Spin can but it depends on how hard and how often you do it.

i mean this politely, but you’ve severe muscle wastage , so can’t have been an avid spinner for some time. Thay doesn’t happen in a few weeks.

How easy would it be for you to stand from a crouching position? Without holding onto anything. Do a low squat as well and see how it feels.

glutes are critical as it gives us stability and mobility. And this is key for continued independance as we age. Our lower body strength is arguably the most important strength we have.

I’m surprised you manage 50g a day protein. It is well below but still decent, so if that’s correct this is about sedentary lifestyle and for sometime.

PoliticallyErect · 28/11/2024 12:40

@Losingthetimber no spin for a couple of months and prior to that, 3 times a week for about 6 months. So avid I am not! And now I'm just being bloody lazy

I do need to tackle it. No to a squat - can't do one and I can get off the floor but need to hold on to something

I'm not decrepit or anything! I don't get out of breath and my nutrition is pretty decent overall - I get my protein from chickpeas, beans, Greek yogurt type substitute, cheese and then odd shake but I need to up it more

I know I have to build strength. I'm always so tentative when I start anything weight related as I fear pulling a muscle!

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping I'll check both of those out - thank you! Caroline rings a bell actually - think I follow her on Instagram!

A before and after. It's not as bad in clothes!

Treadmill running, even more so than actual running, is insanely good for glutes.

Have you lost a lot of weight? I thought these weight loss jabs were for clinically obese people

What made you think that?

Congratulations on your weight loss 😊

We’re pretty much twins in terms of timing, weight lost and our current weight, OP. I’ve been doing strength training, Pilates & tennis since I started the jabs, and getting as much protein in as I can (60-100g a day, and from whole foods, not shakes or bars). My arse has still disappeared!

BlastedPimples · 28/11/2024 13:27

Five stone? You've lost five stone??? Well done.

Hoppinggreen · 28/11/2024 13:34

ImJustAGirlInACountrySong · 28/11/2024 12:59

What made you think that?

I just thought they were medical rather than cosmetic
Not judging anyone who takes that route, I have considered it myself I just thought you had to have a very high BMI for it to be prescribed

Try body pump it’s done wonders for my arse

what is that?!

TheFormidableMrsC · 28/11/2024 13:36

Squats with weights will help that. Also lunges. Get yourself a kettlebell. There are tons of workouts on YouTube and you will be able to find targeted ones for glutes.

You were right, I am not sure what the poster was thinking there, maybe sarcastic,
the drugs are only available for the obese, either bmi 30 or 27 with health issues or certain ethnicities,

Eraserbread · 28/11/2024 13:39

I naturally had no bum to speak of, so I started doing kettlebell swings every day, and now I haver a decent arse. Could be worth a try?

CautiousLurker1 · 28/11/2024 13:42

Not dared look at mine since I recently lost 6st. Taken the view that I only need it to sit on and don’t need to look at it, so what I don’t know about what it looks like the better.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 28/11/2024 13:43

😵‍💫
that hasn’t happened to me but I have 1.5 /2 stone to go
also my arse was of Kardashian proportions in the days when everyone wanted to be Kate moss…

You do, and OP did. She says her starting BMI was 36, which is class ii obese.

minipie · 28/11/2024 14:11

OP, I recommend madfit for good YouTube weights videos. She’s good at showing you the correct form (better than Caroline Girvan) and the moves are simple - unlikely to cause any injury. However I would build core strength first to protect your back before you do any heavy lifting.

Fuck me, can you not tell from the context that the OP has lost weight and that's why her bum looks different to her?!
