Bonus dose help

Hi all. Not having the best mounjaro journey.
Very little suppression to date....
At the end of my first pen, I tried twisting it with hard twist...it broke (I thought that was impossible!)

Any tips for twisting to get the bonus dose for my second pen at the weekend please?

Otherwise I guess plan B is syringes!!

Just trying to keep cost down given its not working well to date

Thanks all!!

What do you mean by 'it broke'?
The hard twist is actually supposed to 'break' the mechanism, otherwise it won't move.

Snozzlemaid · 12/11/2024 18:17

Syringes here, just over £4 plus postage for 10 https://www.shdmedical.co.uk/needles/bbraun-omnican-1ml-30g-syringe-individually-blister-packed/

DappledOliveGroves · 12/11/2024 18:17

I've always used insulin syringes, drawn out the bonus dose and injected it. Super easy.

morbidcuriosity · 12/11/2024 18:38

How is it broken? In what way.
The hard twist does break it, but then should still turn to 1, but it won't click.. you can then still plunge it down to get a dose out..

sleepwouldbenice · 13/11/2024 00:36

Sorry should have been clearer
The end snapped off completely!

OP posts:
WeAllHaveWings · 13/11/2024 00:52

@sleepwouldbenice what bit snapped off?

Was it the purple bit on the end or the whole dose knob when you reached 1?

Just wondering how careful I need to be next time I try it, as heard the pens might have changed. I usually grip the purple bit with flat nosed pliers and turn firmly but carefully.

morbidcuriosity · 13/11/2024 01:03

Oh wow.. I've managed twice to do it, but always worry I'm gonna snap it. I just hold the white bit and twist, not the purple bit.
I am going to get myself some syringes as I definatly don't want to waste any.

It's not a waste. Just syringe out of the top

morbidcuriosity · 13/11/2024 22:45

Defiantly pop to a chemist tomorrow and see if you can get some syringes.. Or even next day delivery, If that was me i would do that and not worry about maybe it being 31 or 32 days after opening.. such a shame to waste.

yohohoCrimbo · 15/11/2024 05:11

Are the needles bigger with the syringes? I couldn't cope with anything longer or thicker.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/11/2024 08:49

Slightly longer by maybe 3mm or so. Not a lot in it tbh

Or waste it at £40 ish

WeAllHaveWings · 15/11/2024 16:04

You can get 8mm 32G 1ml syringes from medical suppliers, so a little longer, but no thicker.

I use 6mm pen needles (the 4mm give me inject site reactions) and there is no difference between 4mm and 6mm when injecting so I assume the 8mm is pain free too.

I have 8mm 32G 1ml syringes on standby, but I haven't had to use them yet, must admit after being used to doing the injection with the pen I am a bit wary of using a syringe too, but I'll psych myself up and give it a go if/when I need to.

morbidcuriosity · 15/11/2024 16:54

Hi. Did you manage to use the last of your liquid in the end? .
I am ordering syringes next week and it will be 8mm ones. For if and when I break the pen or want a bit more strength etc..

sleepwouldbenice · 16/11/2024 11:43

It was too late for that pen, it was my first from a few weeks ago. Fingers crossed for my second on Monday!

@WeAllHaveWings really don’t worry about the syringes. I actually find them easier than the pen as it’s easier to hold and you don’t end up putting too much pressure on your skin.

yohohoCrimbo · 16/11/2024 15:05

Thanks everyone (for those that answered the syringe question).

IndigoHexagon · 17/11/2024 13:44

I too broke my first pen - twisted but no matter what it wouldn’t plunge!

I’ve just taken receipt of some 1ml syringes and drawn it out and injected. I think the ones I got are 6mm and was far easier and less ‘pricking’ feeling that then pen! I got just over à full dose but discard half of it as I only wanted a top up, rather than a full dose. I’m starting 5mg at the end of this week and will use the syringes to get the 5th dose out as the actually 5th dose. I’m hoping to stay on 5mg for a while.

WeAllHaveWings · 17/11/2024 14:11

Did you manage to find the 6mm syringes at a UK medical supplier @IndigoHexagon ?

I could only find on Amazon where there were only 3 reviews for the "measuring tools" made of "industrial grade polypropylene plastic" (rather than medical) that all said they were blunt needles, or I found somewhere shipping directly from China (which I didn't trust).

I saw those on Amazon too - and almost bought them until I read those reviews!

The ones I have are these:

I didn’t buy them from her though as I didn’t want 100 - I had them off a friend who bought them when she started MJ. They are medical grade insulin needles.

Novofine Needles 31g x 6mm x 100

Novofine Needles feature an incredibly thin 31-gauge design and a short 6mm length for virtually painless insulin injections.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/11/2024 00:05

@IndigoHexagon those are pen needles (same ones I have) not syringes, have you linked to the wrong thing, it won’t be possible to draw out of a broken pen with those….

Lola3034 · 18/11/2024 00:20

I got the syringes from independent pharmacy. Boots and Superdrug staff looked at me like I am some sort of druggie 😅🤣. I told pharmacist that the pen broke, online pharmacy doesn't want to replace it and I cannot afford to just bin all that expensive medicine 😄. Small lie but she sold them to me. It was like less than £3 for 8 syringes

Doh! I just copied the link she sent me without even checking, sorry. Hmm.. I can’t see the exact ones she’s given me, they look like this:

https://askaesthetics.co.uk/needles-and-syringes/bd-micro-fine-demi-0-3mm-30g-x-8mm-syringe-needle

but the cap is light blue and she said they were 6mm. I’ll ask her for the link again and double check which brand they are.

Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed to order today to get delivered tomorrow!

I'm trying to get the bonus dose out of the 2.5mg pen but I know people talk about taking 3.75 as a staging dose ahead of 5mg pen. How do I measure this amount?
