Week 6 weigh in and it's another lb, I think my body is determined not to let me get to a stone off!

SW: 17st 4
CW: 16st 5

Jabbed a night early last night as it's my birthday in a few days and I'm in the office tomorrow (normally wfh on a Monday) and I thought it would be typical to get bad side effects for the first time so played it safe and did it yesterday.

I thought the appetite suppression had ramped back up after my first 5mg last week but it lasted all of one day! I have again woken up this morning not remotely hungry so fingers crossed it lasts longer this week, I could really do with the extra willpower over my birthday and next weekend when we have lots of plans... hopefully one day I will get back to the level of suppression I had in those first 2 weeks of 2.5mg!!

KolaKoalaKan · 17/11/2024 09:43

Pegsmum · 16/11/2024 09:47

Well done everyone, some great losses and successes on here. Is anyone who bridged the gap to 5mg with 3.75 sticking with it for a few weeks? My first 5mg was not kind to me at all so Iโ€™ve down one 3.75 which has been okโ€ฆvery tempted to keep on that dose for another couple of weeks.

Yes I'm currently on week two of 3.75mg (jab 7). I'll stay here as long as it's working well enough. Last week I had a return to horrid side effects for two days but longer lasting suppression whereas on 2.5 suppression had worn off by day 4/5

GogoGobo · 17/11/2024 10:00

If anyone is interested in why you may be losing weight now, versus nothing before MJ, Iโ€™d recommend reading Michael Moseleyโ€™s Fast 800 book. It has a chapter or two about liver fat/insulin and how your body can become unable to burn fat if the balance is wrong.
Whilst not directly written about MJ, it is highly relevant!
PS Iโ€™ve been reading this thread with interest. Iโ€™m in week 4 of my first pen, on 2.5mg.

KolaKoalaKan · 17/11/2024 10:16

Good morning all!

I struggle to keep up with the thread but I'm so impressed with all the losses and I've put some hairy ball sacks on my shopping order ๐Ÿคฃ I actually love kiwis and The Doctor's Kitchen says we should be having them daily just anyway so it's a good reminder!

Weigh in/jab day for me. 2.2lb loss on second week of 3.75mg. 1st 8lb lost overall. Over 6 stone to go ๐Ÿ˜ฌ But this is about the point that I'd usually give up and throw my hands up in the air going 'too hard' and I don't feel that now. I feel I can keep trucking. Thanks MJ!

I went out for dinner with friends yesterday and was worried about them noticing or me not enjoying my food. But I think being the end of my jab week it was ok. I really enjoyed my starter and while I enjoyed my main I didn't feel the need to eat the components that weren't floating my boat! It felt so alien to happily end my eating leaving some on the plate.

I think I'm struggling to get enough protein in. I really don't like protein shakes or processed bars etc. I'd rather eat whole food. Is anyone managing to get their protein up without resorting to protein products? I'm eating nuts and seeds, I make a yoghurt and probiotic smoothie, am a meat eater... how are others managing it?

I've also really noticed my inflammation is coming down. I have a chronic pain condition and I've definitely taken fewer painkillers over the last few weeks.

To those who've managed to cut out chocolate altogether hats off to you! I've switched to 85% and have a square or two of that of an evening. This is amazing for me because evenings and bingeing on chocolate were my nemesis! The idea of being satisfied after just a square or two feels so novel!

Is anyone starting to wonder about Christmas? I'm 'doing' Christmas for 9 for three days - Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day. I don't want anyone knowing about the MJ. I think I can manage that aspect but I'm more thinking I just don't know that I want to miss out! Going to all that effort for others and potentially not feeling bothered about food... hmm...

ApolloandDaphne · 17/11/2024 10:26

Kiwis are the devils fruit.

EVK · 17/11/2024 10:54

Iโ€™m really noticing a reduction in inflammation too. Iโ€™m hosting Christmas for 8. I often donโ€™t feel like eating much after Iโ€™ve prepped and cooked, I think Iโ€™ll just keep to my smaller portions and only have what I really fancy (small portion) buy less and feed everyone else ๐Ÿ˜‚Iโ€™m really looking forward to getting the other side of Christmas without feeling huge and bloated. I often find we are left with loads of food and goodies that I feel an obligation to eat! I always go overboard and spend a fortune so Iโ€™m hoping to reign it all in a bit and focus on being happy with my family. Also, Starting the New Year without a huge weight loss mountain to climb but feeling positive about my size will be so refreshing ๐Ÿ˜€

MotherBuckets · 17/11/2024 12:22

@Mummy20213x0 how are you getting on migraine-wise? I took my 3rd injection on Wednesday and within 10 minutes was having multiple head 'spasms' which are usually a sign I'm getting a migraine, although haven't had one for a few years and like you hadn't had any obvious triggers. I'm on day 4 now of extra loud tinnitus, prickling scalp, tingling skin round my eye and dull headache (I hardly ever get the full on head-cracking pain) plus lightheadedness. Really hoping it's just an awful coincidence but it all came on so quickly after the jab ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ญ

. Is stress a trigger for you? Could injecting make you anxious and stressed? I think it would unlikely be the meds if it came on within mins, so maybe coincidence or anxiety /stress?

@HansHolbein I actually can't believe the fact that I didn't gain an ounce. I was being careful about carbs and mainly stuck to meat/fish/salad meals but I still had a couple of nice gateau type desserts with ice cream and drank all day and evening all be it not heavily - just a couple of pernods during the day, a glass or 2 of wine with dinner and a cocktail afterwards but I don't normally drink much at all so that was really excessive for me. Oh well, I'll take it - I have checked the scales twice but nope, definitely no gain. The reason I'm so shocked is because I last had MJ five days before we left and that was only a half dose of 2.5mgs. I had none at all whilst away so I'm guessing not much left in my system by the end. I don't feel I can take personal credit for any of this though as I definitely wasn't restricting myself!

Haven't eaten much today and do feel knackered actually so hoping that will be the worst of the side effects now. I think I'm going to have a boiled egg and marmite soldiers so that will have to do as I'm not at all hungry. I certainly don't feel pole-axed like I did before anyway so that's something. I'm thinking that I'll be staying on 2.5mgs for a while as I seem to be a bit of a Mounjaro lightweight. [Ha! Ha! I wish!]
@Fizzleaway1 I want to say that you have done amazingly well - your loss is stunning. You must feel brilliant and so proud of yourself.
I'm expecting to be a slow loser due to my age and underactive thyroid but I really don't mind as any loss is astonishing given that I have failed all year to lose more than a pound or two despite my best efforts.

Aww thank you. We will all get there, just at different rates. I have Pernicious anemia and Iโ€™m hoping eating a better diet will help that. I have my B12 injection next week so I will start taking the dog on longer walks after when it kicks in.

Fizzleaway1 · 17/11/2024 14:30

Over my MILs, she had some hairy ball sacks and I just ate one with the skin on. It wasnโ€™t that bad! Better then I thought.

recklessgran · 17/11/2024 14:38

@Fizzleaway1 Ha! Ha! - sorry but it would be nope from me just looking at those hairy little bastards gives me The Rage!

Loujab · 17/11/2024 14:48

Warning to all about my previous post on protein shakes. I had one Huel yesterday. Half in the AM and half in the PM. One half this morning and now I am in a word of pain with a terrible upset stomach ๐Ÿ˜ข must be that as it's the only think I have done differently. I am on week 5 of 2.5.

Loujab · 17/11/2024 15:55

Found this on reddit which is a good, if not technical explanation of wegovy. But is similar to Mounjaro: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/ozempic-quiets-food-noise-in-the-brain-but-how/

Thatโ€™s odd, maybe youโ€™re allergic to something in it? I have one most days, started off on the normal ones and now Huel black, and totally fine.

HansHolbein · 17/11/2024 17:35

@YummyCookie Me too.. 5mg is working well for me so Iโ€™m hesitant to move up when I order in a couple of weeks time. I will wait and see what you all do!

@TwinklesToes Amazing well done!

@Tohaveandtohold Youโ€™re doing great! Happy for you. Less snoring is a massive NSV ๐ŸŽ‰

@igivein Wow congratulations! So encouraging!

@lickycat Frustrating, but youโ€™re right.. a loss is a still a loss. Glad 5mg is treating you well. This might be the magic dose for you!

@ItsMintUpNorth Youโ€™ve done so well! The best thing about MJ is the consistency it gives us. I would have given up weeks ago if it hadnโ€™t been for this. Iโ€™m hoping this is the difference this time! Even if I have a small loss, Iโ€™ll keep going! Have a wonderful birthday week xx

@GogoGobo Thank you for the recommendation.. I have all his books downstairs so there is no excuse! Poor guy, I often think of him. Hope all is going well for you, keep talking to us!

@KolaKoalaKan Yes the thread moves sooo fast! I hope you enjoy the ball sacks.. I mean, it wasnโ€™t the best thing Iโ€™ve ever put in my mouth (I think real ball sacks might be better ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ) but I definitely helped me have a small poo on Saturday! Amazing loss, well done you. You must feel shiny and new!

@EVK Gosh me too! I always end up a total bulbous whale slug after Xmas so Iโ€™m really looking forward to being in control. Now Iโ€™m not obsessed with food, maybe Iโ€™ll actually enjoy Xmas now?

@Fizzleaway1 Yes Queen shove those ballsacks in! How were your M&Ms?

OrlandointheWilderness · 17/11/2024 17:44

Journey so far -
Week one : -10lb
Week two: -4lb
Week three: - 5lb

Still have good suppression and feel fine apart from nausea ๐Ÿ˜‚ feeling much better!

I've got an oral spray for B12 and it's been a god send especially as I couldn't get in for a B12 injection. Totally recommend it! I'm like a different person on B12 since summer than without it for years, no more exhaustion, breathlessness, fast heart or pins and needles!

I had issues with huel too, it had a lot of fibre from flax seeds so I think it was that as other plant proteins don't affect me in that way.

Those of you taking collagen, what brand/type? Iโ€™ve been wondering if collagen is something that would actually benefit me but I donโ€™t know where to start!

A multi collagen powder is great as it contains all the collagen forms for skin, hair, muscle etc I use Revive multi collagen powder from amazon

TheChosenTwo · 17/11/2024 18:36

@KolaKoalaKan I avoid any of those protein meal replacement drinks, Iโ€™ve just been concentrating on 2 sensible meals a day based around meat, beans, chickpeas, eggs, cheese etc. Around midday I had 2 scrambled eggs on granary toast and a kiwi (skin on obviously ๐Ÿ˜‚) and for dinner we are having roast beef and all the trimmings.

regarding Christmas I think Iโ€™ll be okay, we usually have a big table full of people and o one will be noticing what I eat or donโ€™t, although Iโ€™m managing to eat meals fine, just less carby bits and more of the veg which is easy enough. We go on holiday straight after, there will be 25 of us and again, easy enough to just eat how I want sitting at a big table. The drinking however - Iโ€™ve barely been interested at all and itโ€™s usually quite a boozy break! Will cross that bridge when I come to it.

hopeishere · 17/11/2024 18:57

I'm on 3.75 and was doing really well all week and then had to go to two events yesterday- a lunch and dinner. I didn't overeat but know all my good work will have been reversed. So annoyed. I might skip weighing tomorrow as I'll fell terrible. I'm also unbelievably bloated- I've had to unbutton my trousers!

I did get a new dress for the event and was able to get a smaller size!

TwinklesToes · 17/11/2024 19:02

Moved my weigh day from next Tuesday to yesterday, lost 4 lb this week. Thatโ€™s 1 stone 4lbs in 6 weeks

RunSlowTalkFast · 17/11/2024 19:33

@kolakoalakan "I think I'm struggling to get enough protein in. I really don't like protein shakes or processed bars etc. I'd rather eat whole food. Is anyone managing to get their protein up without resorting to protein products?"

I do sometimes have protein bar or mousse but don't need to everyday to hit 100g.

E.g
B - Turkey bacon and scrambled egg with extra egg whites and some reduced fat cheddar.

L - tuna pasta salad. Whole tin of tuna, 50g (dry) pasta and lots of v low cal salad veg.

D - Chicken and veg stir fry with homemade egg fried rice (one large egg).

Pudding/snack of berries and 0% Greek yoghurt.

Fizzleaway1 · 17/11/2024 20:29

Well done everyone on the amounts lost this week, everyone is doing so well.

@KolaKoalaKan I am already worrying about Xmas. I will probably have to make sure I go up a dose that week for MAX suppression ๐Ÿ˜‚ We are away with my family from Monday-Friday but my husbands fav part of Xmas is the food, so we spend a fortune and eat very nice things for the whole time. I wonโ€™t be able to get him to rein it in at all ๐Ÿ˜‚ no point even trying! We have already put in preorders for not 1 but 2 cheesecakes at a local bakers as our xmas day pudding and I LOVE cheesecake ๐Ÿ˜…
Fresh baked pastries for breakfast (also a fav)โ€ฆ plus my dad will be there and heโ€™s a feeder!!

My only saving grace is my mum is starting MJ tomorrow! Sheโ€™s watched me take it for 5 weeks and now sheโ€™s giving it a whirl too so hopefully the 2 of us can bat off all the food๐Ÿ˜…
