I'm on 3.75 and was doing really well all week and then had to go to two events yesterday- a lunch and dinner. I didn't overeat but know all my good work will have been reversed. So annoyed. I might skip weighing tomorrow as I'll fell terrible. I'm also unbelievably bloated- I've had to unbutton my trousers!

I did get a new dress for the event and was able to get a smaller size!

A size down in a dress is a great accomplishment! Well done. A couple of bigger meals wonโ€™t make much difference, just get straight back on it.

Week 6 weigh in and it's another lb, I think my body is determined not to let me get to a stone off!

SW: 17st 4
CW: 16st 5

Jabbed a night early last night as it's my birthday in a few days and I'm in the office tomorrow (normally wfh on a Monday) and I thought it would be typical to get bad side effects for the first time so played it safe and did it yesterday.

I thought the appetite suppression had ramped back up after my first 5mg last week but it lasted all of one day! I have again woken up this morning not remotely hungry so fingers crossed it lasts longer this week, I could really do with the extra willpower over my birthday and next weekend when we have lots of plans... hopefully one day I will get back to the level of suppression I had in those first 2 weeks of 2.5mg!!

Hopefully you will get rid of that last lb this week to hit the stone mark.

I hope the suppression stays for the whole week

ItsMintUpNorth · 17/11/2024 20:39

@HansHolbein thanks ๏ฟผ

@Fizzleaway1 just got back from a meal out and only managed half my main and now have that rock hard stomach feeling despite it not being anything fatty/greasy so hopefully it's the 5mg working well! Even when the appetite suppression was high on 2.5mg I could still eat a full sized meal I just wasn't hungry in between, so it was strange feeling full after half a bowl of pasta!

Fizzleaway1 · 17/11/2024 20:40

@recklessgran Iโ€™m not actually a fan of the ball sacks and wouldnโ€™t buy them but since the in-laws had them I thought letโ€™s see what they taste like with the skin on๐Ÿ˜‚

@HansHolbein m&ms are lush! They are my fav! Iโ€™m sat here with a portion of them now with a cup of tea waiting for my husband to sit down so we can watch GOT!

@OrlandointheWilderness well done!

@TwinklesToes also well done, everyone is smashing it.

Fizzleaway1 · 17/11/2024 20:48

@ItsMintUpNorth Iv had that when I went out for a meal this week. The rock hard feeling lasted until the morning, I hated it.
Looks like the 5mg is kicking in for you!

Those of you taking collagen, what brand/type? Iโ€™ve been wondering if collagen is something that would actually benefit me but I donโ€™t know where to start!

I bought mine from Amazon, I have two spoons in my coffee first thing. Can't taste it at all. I'm also taking biotin tablets as I'm fearful of losing my hair!!

Been awake since 4am ๐Ÿฅด the sickness has hit me again this morning! Always seems to be sun/mon! I cooked a lovely Shepard's Pie for dinner yesterday - pack d full of veggies.. something hasn't agreed with me ๐Ÿคข

Fizzleaway1 · 18/11/2024 05:33

@rockingbird Iโ€™m also up and Iv been up since 4.30am. Firstly because my youngest woke everyone up (heโ€™s severe SEN) and now my stomach is constantly churning for the last 45 mins so I canโ€™t get back to sleep.
Lucky Iโ€™m WFH tomorrow but I have a dentist check up which I realllly canโ€™t be bothered to go to as I feel so tired.

I've got an oral spray for B12 and it's been a god send especially as I couldn't get in for a B12 injection. Totally recommend it! I'm like a different person on B12 since summer than without it for years, no more exhaustion, breathlessness, fast heart or pins and needles!

Which brand B12 spray is it?

Iv been having b12 shots for about a year now and I pay for top ups sometimes too.

I mentioned before that I put most of my weight on over the last couple of years and I honestly thought the exhaustion, breathlessness, pins and needles in hands and feet and a twitchy eye was down to being fat! I thought it was so much stress on my body carrying the extra weight that I was breathless all the time because I was just fat. I remember thinking one time that I didnโ€™t know how bigger people stayed big their whole lives if they feel like this as it was so bad. I blamed it all on my weight gain and thought thatโ€™s how everyone felt.

I remember changing my sons bedding once on my day off and I had to sit down and rest half way though changing the sheets, I was that exhausted and out of breath! Getting off the sofa after I sat down on an evening filled me with dread as I was so so tired.

I eventually went to the doctors a year ago as one of my eyes kept twitching and I couldnโ€™t get it to start (happening for months) and they did I full blood count and it turned out everything was ridiculously low, B12, Iron, folate, Vit D. Now on prescription for most of them and take over the counter vit D3.

Mysticmaiden2024 · 18/11/2024 06:00

I've been anaemic all my life they've never tested me for pernicious, just assumed it was low iron because have low ferritin in past. Have told doctor about pins and needles 3 months ago but they said take iron, didn't even do bloods! I didn't eat meat for 5 years so mine could be down to that.

If you have pernicious you need 1000ug B12 every other day for 2 weeks starting off I read. I use Holland and Barratt own 250ug 4 sprays a day but they've just stopped selling it, have bought Better You which is sold everywhere, its 1200ug per spray. I'm taking 1000ug a day and it's resolved all my symptoms including brain fog and mood swings.

Better you also do oral sprays for vitamin D and others. I take feroglobin too liquid iron, find they absorb better than tablets.

Was paying ยฃ20 for injections but oral spray is so much easier and works just as well

rockingbird · 18/11/2024 07:20

@Fizzleaway1 it's a killer isn't being woken so early. Good god the thought of the dentist turns my stomach ๐Ÿฅด I'm shattered!! Fortunately I work remotely and my time is flexible.. I doubt I'll get much done today!

hopeishere · 18/11/2024 07:55

Well weighed in after my big weekend and managed to lose 1lb so I'm happy with that! At least I didn't gain anything.

Gilly1C · 18/11/2024 07:58

Loujab · 16/11/2024 14:34

Is anyone drinking huel or other protein ready made drinks? I know I am not getting enough protein so seems like a good way to get extra in? Calories are also low and they have added vitamins and minerals.

I take Huel meal replacements on the days I really struggle to get calories in. They are 400 calls a bottle with the added nutrients. I keep a couple in the fridge (long dates so get a few when they are reduced) they have been a godsend to me especially for lunch

Squirrellover2 · 18/11/2024 08:56

I am on holiday in Egypt (Sharm). I am doing well, good suppression, having protein breakfast and dinner. Very low carb. Not a drinker so chugging back lots of water.

All going well you think? NO!!! There are scales in the hotel room!!! I had decided to relax and try to eat like a normal person but I am now obsessed with thinking I have put weight on and want to check. But if I have I'll be devastated and spoil my holiday.
Are all us fatties just super weird?

KolaKoalaKan · 18/11/2024 10:26

@Squirrellover2 Well, enjoy your holiday. Banish those scales! WTF, scales in a hotel room. That's pure evil! Is it AI? Perhaps it's some business tactic to stop people eating and drinking so much to protect profit margins! But seriously, I'd get them removed and just enjoy your hol.

@rockingbird Oh, being woken with sickness is crap. I tend to find Monday and Tuesday are my dodgy tum days (I jab on Sundays). The nausea is exhausting so the last thing you need is not sleeping. I've found I get worse if I don't eat, so I nibble on things like nuts. And drink lots!

@TheChosenTwo Thank you. More veg at xmas is a good idea. I have some fancy ones planned, so that should help. I was also going to only do meat based stuffing, rather than bready ones, to help with protein. 25 people! You're brave! My introverted self is having palpitations!

@RunSlowTalkFast Thank you. My calculations put me at needing 125g of protein! And I don't really eat eggs, so I'm struggling. I can manage an omelette with strong cheese so perhaps I should do them more. And I've made some bean soup so I think that could help. I'm just getting bored of the quantity of chicken!

@Fizzleaway1 I was going to do the opposite for Christmas! I was going to intentionally not increase the dose because I don't want to accidentally overeat and then be shitting and vomiting my way through the festive season ๐Ÿ˜‚What a nice thought! I jab on Sunday and spend Mon/Tues feeling pretty grim, so I'm hoping that means that with Christmas Day being Wed, it'll work well for me. Good supression still but not feeling too rough. I love cheesecake too! It's cool that your mum will be joining you on MJ - you can suport each other.

Well done, thatโ€™s a good loss. Set yourself small targets it helps not to look too far ahead.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 18/11/2024 12:18

Morning all
W5D1 - 2nd week on 5mg
SW 17'10
CW 17'2

Still going frustratingly slowly but losses every week, the last 3 weeks have been 2 pounds a week.

Still no side effects and suppression generally starts lifting by Thurs/Fri. When I go up to 7.5, which I will assuming no mega side effects, I might jab a couple of says early, so either Fri or Sat morning so that the suppression hits over the weekend.

I could have gone mad yesterday and ate loads, but it was sheer willpower and the knowledge of my weigh in and jab today that held me off. That won't last on its own tho!

Mummy20213x0 · 18/11/2024 12:27

So I just wanted to share whatโ€™s happening with me and why it is so, so important to be hyper vigilant of any pain or discomfort, no matter how mild, while on MJ.

I started MJ mid October, and last Wednesday was due to take my 5th jab (first 5mg after taking 4 weeks of 2.5mg). However, Monday I started getting a strange throbbing discomfort in my upper right abdomen. I say discomfort because it was a niggle more than painful. I didnโ€™t feel unwell at all. I had been having a lot of wind and digestive side effects from the MJ, so put it down to wind pain as it was coming and going. Iโ€™d also slipped in the kitchen and thought maybe Iโ€™d pulled something. But by the Tuesday it hadnโ€™t resolved and the weird pain was coming more frequently. If I hadnโ€™t been taking MJ Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™d have even thought on it, but I know upper abdominal pain or discomfort isnโ€™t one to ignore. When it hadnโ€™t subsided by the Wednesday I decided to not take my jab as usual and instead contacted my prescriber for advice. They said any upper abdominal pain, even mild, to see my GP due to the risk of complications with gallbladder disease and pancreatitis.

I had a telephone GP appointment on the Thursday morning and my GP basically said youโ€™d be in agony if it was pancreatitis or gallstones but she couldnโ€™t advise any further as it should be the prescribing doctor I should be speaking to about whether itโ€™s safe to continue this medication.

So, I contacted my prescriber and a doctor messaged me back a day later asking did the GP do bloods or examine me (no) and if not they should if the side effects persist, and I should stop taking the medication for a couple of weeks and certainly not increase to 5mg if I decide to continue. She also said I should absolutely not try and get a 2.5mg dose out of my 5mg pen, the dosing wonโ€™t be accurate and is unsafe. I should order another 2.5mg pen instead when/if the time comes.

I started to notice the pain coming and going alongside my wind, so thought maybe it is just bad wind pain. It was the weekend so I left it and carried on as normal, still felt fine in myself, trying to ignore the niggling anxiety I was having at the thought of it being something serious (donโ€™t Google!). By Saturday night it had evolved into a dull ache starting under my right ribs and going round to my back, occasionally throbbing. I definitely wasnโ€™t in agony, more uncomfortable, but for the first time I considered pain killers or a warm compress to help me sleep.

So today I saw my GP in person (a different one to last week and one Iโ€™ve had before). She was lovely and very interested in my MJ experience, how much weight Iโ€™d lost, what it was like etc. She wasnโ€™t worried about wind or digestive issues - she said thatโ€™s common in MJ patients and spoke like sheโ€™d dealt with them before. However, she told me my pain sounds like classic liver pain to her and sheโ€™s concerned. She explained that all medications are metabolised in the liver, and sometimes the liver can react badly to them and start to cause pain, inflammation and problems. MJ is a strong medication so this is a possibility, and any liver complications are serious.

Of course now Iโ€™m panicking. Iโ€™m in my early 30s and have a 2 year old. I started to fear that in trying take control of my health for my son and head off any obesity-related health problems, Iโ€™ve actually damaged it even worse. She reassured me and said Iโ€™d done everything right - Iโ€™d gone through a registered pharmacy/online doctor to get MJ, had taken it correctly, been very aware of any side effects and hadnโ€™t waited for them to get more severe or painful before stopping the medication immediately and seeking advice. She has referred me to get bloods done, she wanted them done this week - if it is my liver catching it early is key - but earliest appointment is next Tuesday. Then if they show anything with my liver itโ€™ll be a scan, and if they donโ€™t itโ€™ll still be a scan anyway to check other organs in that area, like kidneys etc. I got quite upset and she reassured me that if it is liver issues caused by MJ, then stopping the medication and getting it out my system should sort it and Iโ€™ll just need monitoring, especially as Iโ€™ve been so quick at realising something wasnโ€™t right. But now Iโ€™m thinking, well I havenโ€™t lived the healthiest lifestyle with my nutrition over the last 2-3 years since I gained the weight (Iโ€™m not obese and on MJ for nothing) and maybe itโ€™s caught up to me. So now itโ€™s a waiting game. I didnโ€™t think mild discomfort could be anything serious. I still donโ€™t feel ill - Iโ€™m eating and exercising and going to work as usual. Tbh, at most I thought Iโ€™d be told I had trapped wind, a pulled muscle or a kidney infection, given antibiotics and sent on my way.

So this is my advice to please, please, be super aware of any side effects, pain and discomfort, however mild. MJ is an amazing medication but itโ€™s a very strong one, and Iโ€™m gutted my body hasnโ€™t agreed with it. If in doubt better to be safe than sorry and see a doctor! I think this is the end of my MJ journey. Even if the tests come back clear or itโ€™s something completely unrelated to MJ, I donโ€™t think I can cope with the worry and anxiety over every little niggle now I know what it could mean.

letshavetea · 18/11/2024 12:33

Took my eighth injection of 2.5 mg last night. Kept to that dose due to the holiday weโ€™re currently on. Still having good suppression (except for some nice drinks!). Not sure Iโ€™ll lose, but thatโ€™s okay!

JustKeepsBreathing · 18/11/2024 12:50

Hello all๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ not had a chance to catch up with everyoneโ€™s weekend posts.

Just took the decision to take 3mg dose instead of 5 as last weekโ€™s 3.75 was too big a jump and I felt terrible. Letโ€™s see how it goes ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

Todayโ€™s update
5 weeks from starting treatment (6th dose)
This week Iโ€™ve lost 2 lb making a total loss so far of 1 stone and 4 lb
SW 15 stone 1 lb
CW 13 stone 11 lb
GW 10 stone ultimately (mid-range healthy bmi)

so my weight loss has slowed but Iโ€™m okay with that - as long as it keeps going in the right direction Iโ€™m ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

And people have started noticingโ€ฆ but Iโ€™m not telling ๐Ÿคซ ๐Ÿคญ

OP posts:
TheOtherSide21 · 18/11/2024 12:59

Took my first 7.5mg last night. No side effects yet but definitely donโ€™t want to really eat.

However, I can still eat. Iโ€™ve always said if I got to the point where I couldnโ€™t eat then I was at too strong a dose so we will see how we go.

Iโ€™m also 2.5lbs down since last Thursday after a very active weekend.
